Canada’s Inside Out queer festival announces projects for seventh finance forum (exclusive)

2023 edition of international finance forum adds episodic content to line-up.

Canadian 2Slgbtq+ film festival Inside Out has unveiled 11 projects to participate in this weekend’s seventh annual international finance forum, which is moving ahead after the end of the Hollywood strikes.

The two-day forum had been scheduled to run during Inside Out’s flagship festival in Toronto in May and now takes place from November 17-18.

The agenda includes in-person conversations and interactive panel discussions with queer filmmakers and producers, as well as one-on-one meetings with executives, and roundtable sessions on co-producing with Canada, and entertainment law and music rights.

A first crush is an overwhelming experience, and it sends a teenager’s life careering off course in Erin’s Guide To Kissing Girls. The title character, played by Elliot Stocking, is so fixated on Sydni (Rosali Annikie), the new girl at school and a child star to boot, that she starts to ignore her longstanding best friend and fellow comics nerd Liz (Jesyca Gu), taking her for granted in a way that will end up affecting them both far more severely than she realises. When I met the film’s director, Julianna Notten, I began our conversation by thanking her for creating the kind of film I wish had been available to me when I was that age.

“That's exactly it,” she says, smiling. ”I didn't even know that exploring my sexuality was an option for me when I was young.

Jon Hamm’s ‘Corner Office’ to Open 30th Edition of Raindance Film Festival

Joachim Back’s “Corner Office,” featuring “Mad Men” star John Hamm, will open the 30th edition of London’s Raindance Film Festival (Oct. 26-Nov. 5). Austin Bragg and Meredith Bragg’s “Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game” will close the festival.

To mark its 30th anniversary, Raindance will screen iconic independent films that had their U.K. premieres at the festival, including “Pulp Fiction,” “Memento,” “The Blair Witch Project” and “Oldboy.”

Special screenings of new films include the world premiere of Stephen Moyer’s “A Bit of Light” (U.K.), starring Anna Paquin and Ray Winstone; director Moshe Rosenthal will take part in a Raindance masterclass and present the U.K. premiere of “Karaoke” (Israel); and the world premiere of Dilshad Husain’s British Asian feature “Banglatown.”

Inside Out Lgbtq Fest Unveils 2019 Finance Forum Selection (Exclusive)
Inside Out, Canada’s largest Lgbtq film festival, distributor, and booster of Lgbtq content, has unveiled to Variety the 10 feature projects and eight international executives participating in its third annual Finance Forum.

“There’s a great variety to the projects this year,” Inside Out executive director Andria Wilson said before the official Finance Forum announcement. “We’ve got docs in the lineup for the first time, and two really exciting U.K. projects. The directors and producers represent a diverse cross-section of perspectives, both from their lived experiences and their bodies of work.” The festival’s 2019 film slate will be announced May 3.
