Power Book II: Ghost Ending, Explained: Will the Franchise Continue?
Image
The final chapter of Power Book II: Ghost was closed on October 4, 2024, with Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) gaining the upper hand on two of his most threatening enemies. Now that Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige) is also out of the picture, Tariq has more freedom to begin life anew than ever, leading many fans of the hard-hitting Starz crime drama to wonder if he's been seen for the last time.

More importantly, with Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Power Book IV: Force still going strong, it's worth exploring how the events of the Ghost finale will inform the overarching Power universe moving forward. Raising Kanan Season 4 and Force Season 3 near their expected winter 2024 releases requires a clarifying recap to determine how the ambitious crime series will continue.

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds Recreate Deadpool & Wolverine Announcement 2 Years Later for New Project
Image
In September 2022, Ryan Reynolds gave one of the first Deadpool 3 updates, where he announced Hugh Jackman would reprise his iconic role of Wolverine in what would end up being called Deadpool & Wolverine. Over two years later and a certified blockbuster on their hands, the duo recreated the announcement for a new project.

On Oct. 9, Hugh Jackman released a video just like the 2022 Deadpool & Wolverine update, this time, to let everyone know about his upcoming project. Unfortunately, while that doesn't involve Ryan Reynolds, per se, he will be in Jackman's "heart." The new project is a 12-concert series at Radio City Music Hall called From New York With Love.

Michael Rainey Jr. on His ‘Power’ Evolution, ‘Ghost’ Ending and That Mystery Call
Image
[This story contains spoilers from the Power Book II: Ghost series finale.]

On the very first episode of Power created by Courtney Kemp and executive produced by rapper-turned-tv mogul Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson back in June 2014, there was no way of knowing that the kid in the nice penthouse apartment asking his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) if his father James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), who spoke fluent Spanish, could “hook up” his Spanish homework as she served breakfast was on his way to becoming a drug kingpin. At that point, the young Tariq didn’t even know his father was himself a kingpin known on the streets as Ghost (Hardwick). And that his mother also knew. Michael Rainey Jr. was just a few months from turning 14. Now a decade later, just over a week after turning 24, he’s closed out another series.

When Power Book II: Ghost premiered Sept. 6, 2020, the pandemic had put the whole country and world on a life-turning timeout.

In 2014, Michael Rainey Jr. was a young teen when he debuted as Tariq St. Patrick in the Starz drama series Power, from executive producers Courtney A. Kemp and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Today, Rainey is older and wiser after a decade of growing up in front of audiences in two Power Universe series— including most recently, Power Book II: Ghost where he survives to see another series finale. Could there be a third?

The Power Book II: Ghost conclusion, currently available to stream via the Starz app, wraps up many storylines while leaving others open for possible continuation. ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Sets All-Time Viewer Record for Starz Series
Image
The final season of Power Book II: Ghost will go down as the most watched show ever on Starz.

The drama, which is headed toward its series finale on Oct. 4, is averaging 10.5 million viewers across all platforms, measured for 90 days post-premiere. (Several years ago, Starz noted that season five of Ghost’s predecessor, Power, averaged 10.8 million viewers, but over a longer span of time than 90 days.)

The Power franchise, which encompasses four series, has set a number of ratings records for Starz. The flagship series displaced Spartacus as Starz’s most watched show at the time back in 2015 and continued to roll up big audiences over the course of its run. Ghost, Book III: Raising Kanan and Book IV: Force — which notched the biggest opening weekend for any series premiere in the channel’s history — have also pulled in strong viewing numbers over their runs.

Days of Our Lives Spoilers for the Week of 9-23-24 Suggest Fiona Could Be The Next One Caught!
Image
It’s not looking good for Fiona. Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 9-23-24 suggest she’s the next to go down.

It’s about time, if true.

Fiona’s been keeping this horrible secret for far too long about the night Sarah was run over — and Xander’s about to try again to make Brady pay.

(Peacock/Screenshot)

In many ways, this Fiona story has been yet another rerun of tired TV tropes involving the wrong person being accused of a heinous crime.

As is par for the course on the soap, Sarah thinks Fiona is her guardian angel, but her mother-in-law is secretly the one who mowed her down in a drunk driving accident.

Serena Scott Thomas’ performance has made Fiona’s horrible behavior understandable, but the most exciting part of this story is that it’s almost over. She’s the next one...

Three Women Season 1 Episode 2 Review: Lina
Image
While Three Women Season 1 Episode 1 introduced us to our leading ladies, the next several installments will focus on only one central story per episode.

Three Women’s Season 1 Episode 2 focused on Lina. Her story seemed the most relatable, and my heart broke for her. She was in a loveless marriage. Her husband hadn’t touched her in 45 days, and she implied she hadn’t been in love since she was with Aidan in high school.

So many red flags made me wonder why Lina and Ed got married in the first place. This was modern times, yet their marriage seemed so antiquated.

(Courtesy of Starz)

It sometimes seemed like Ed married Lina only to breed children.

There was no warmth between them like you often see between married couples, not even a simple caress of a shoulder or appreciation for what she did around the house.

It made sense...

There are only two episodes left of Power Book II: Ghost and the action is ramping Up.

As the series approaches its conclusion, two characters are embarking on two very different journeys.

Dru has made a decision for himself, and as his portrayer, the ever-candid Lovell Adams-Gray, shared with us, he’s working with Detective Carter with a larger plan in mind.

“I think Dru is trying to carve out a lane for himself and protect his family in the way that he sees best,” Adams-Gray said when asked about what’s driving Dru at this point in the story.

Tamberla Perry Shares How Brilliant Minds Differs From Other Medical Dramas
Image
Medical dramas are a popular genre, but NBC’s Brilliant Minds differs from the rest because it’s based on the life and work of the real Dr. Oliver Sacks and his longtime friend, Dr. Carol Burnett.

The series focuses on a larger-than-life neurologist, Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto), who isn’t afraid to break the rules to help his patients live their lives.

While many stories focus on him, the series wouldn’t have worked without his oldest friend, Dr. Carol Pierce, recruiting him to Bronx Hospital. Together, they run the dream neuropsychology team to help many patients others have given up on.

(Brendan Meadows/NBC)

TV Fanatic chatted with Tamberla Perry about playing Dr. Carol Pierce, working with Zachary Quinto, and why Brilliant Minds differs from other medical dramas.

She was charming to talk to, and after speaking with her, I’m even more excited to see where this series is headed.

The Penguin Season Premiere Review: After Hours
Image
Trust a mother to get her kid’s head on straight — and that’s exactly what sets everything in motion on The Penguin Season 1, Episode 1.

With a little maternal nudge, Oswald “Oz” Cobb embarks on his tangled journey to claim Gotham’s underworld as his own.

What a wild, twisty ride! I’m all about the villains, and if the rest of the series keeps this up, Oz might just be my new favorite!

(Photograph by Macall Polay/HBO)

The opening episode of HBO’s The Penguin, set right after the events of the 2022 film The Batman, pulls us back into Gotham’s dark, brooding world, but this time it’s all about Oz.

While it bridges the gap between The Batman and its upcoming sequel, The Penguin keeps that gritty vibe but adds its own flair.

‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 4 Draws Strong Debut Audience On Starz
Image
Power Book II: Ghost is delivering a big audience for its final season.

The Starz series’ Season 4 launched its first part on June 7, becoming one of the network’s largest debuts ever. Starz reports that the episodes drew 6.5M multi-platform viewers in their first week.

Notably, the network says that there was a sense of “urgency” from viewers to watch the latest episodes, with 11% of premiere day streams coming in the first hour after it launched.

It should come as no surprise that the Power franchise wields quite a bit of influence for Starz, considering that it has amassed 1.5B hours watched globally to date.

Power Book II: Ghost was canceled in March. The series was the first spinoff to come from Power, and it follows Ghost’s son who, after killing his father and covering up, attempts to start fresh and far from his father’s criminal empire. Unfortunately,...

‘Power Book IV: Force’ To End After 3 Seasons
Image
Starz’s Power Book IV: Force will conclude following the drama’s third season which is currently in production in Chicago. It’s lights out for Tommy (Joseph Sikora) and the gang but that doesn’t mean their stories are over.

As Deadline reported in March, Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch revealed plans to contain content costs by developing more new shows versus sustaining series longer as they become more expensive. The plan was implemented immediately as Starz announced the next day the development of a new prequel series Origin, following the Ghost (Omari Hardwick in the flagship series) and Tommy during their early years. The new show is similar to Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which centers on Power’s favorite foe, Kanan Stark (played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) during his younger years.

Just a day later, the bombshell news was revealed that Power Book II: Ghost would conclude...

‘Power Book II: Ghost’ To End With Season 4
Image
Fans of the Power franchise are losing Ghost again — but this time, it’s the series.

Starz has canceled Power Book II: Ghost, with the show’s fourth season to serve as its last. It will be broken into two parts, premiering June 7 and September 6. Watch the teaser above.

The move was prefaced by Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch this week when he revealed plans to contain content costs by developing more new shows versus sustaining series longer as they become more expensive.

Using the Power franchise as an example, he said: “You look at the [Power] map and say, ‘Ok, if I take one of those characters out and spin one of those out, I can bring that on to replace the Power show at half the cost.’ Now I’m putting a lot of money right to the bottom line. And I’m really not losing anything in terms of acquisition costs and subscriber viewership,...

BBC Making Sarah Everard Documentary

The BBC is making a documentary about the investigation into the tragic murder of Sarah Everard, which led to a major reckoning over misogyny and bad behavior in London’s Metropolitan police force. Sarah Everard: The Search For Justice looks into Everard’s murder, how the devastating crime unfolded and its impact. Everard was killed by a serving police officer, Wayne Couzens, who abducted her as she walked home in March 2021, and this became a watershed moment for the nation. There were mass protests against male violence towards women and the narrative of ‘one bad apple’ in the police force was destroyed. The force was placed in special measures and a major review of the Met Police found a culture of denial, widespread bullying, discrimination, institutional homophobia, misogyny and racism. BBC Studios is behind the single doc, which is being EP-d by Emily Lawson and Kirsty Cunningham.

Why Audiences Consider Power Book II: Ghost The Weakest Of The Series
Image
"Power Book II: Ghost" is considered the weakest series in the "Power" universe, largely due to its misleading title and the absence of the beloved character Ghost. The absence of Ghost, a fan-favorite character known for his likability and embodiment of power, is a significant disappointment for viewers. The main character, Tariq St. Patrick, is not as compelling as his father, Ghost, contributing to the less positive reception of "Power Book II: Ghost" compared to other shows in the franchise.

Power Book II: Ghost is the second crime drama television series set in the Power universe on Starz, and many consider it the worst one out of the four chapters in the franchise. The spinoff premiered on September 6, 2020, a few months following the Power series finale, and is a direct sequel to the first show. Even though the second spinoff is well-regarded, every series in the Power universe is. As a result,...

This 'Legends of Tomorrow' Scene Will Always Be the Best Arrowverse Moment
Image
After an awkward start in its first season DC’s Legends of Tomorrow quickly transformed itself into the funniest and one of the most acclaimed series in The CW’s Arrowverse franchise. By blending a wholehearted embrace of the zany silliness of classic superhero comics with healthy doses of self-awareness and historical satire Legends became a unique and beloved superhero series ever produced for live-action television, and it delivered many of the Arrowverse’s wildest moments during its seven-season run. But perhaps no scene was as unbelievable as the one in Season 3 in which telepathic ape and recurring Arrowverse super-villain Gorilla Grodd (David Sobolov) went back in time to attempt to assassinate a young Barack Obama (Lovell Adams-Gray).

How Detective Whitman's Fate in "Power Book II" Season 3 Connects Back to the Original Series
Image
Another week, another major player on "Power Book II: Ghost" meets a tragic fate - though many viewers probably saw this one coming. This time, the hit "Power" spinoff bid farewell to the nuisance that is Detective Kevin Whitman (Jeff Hephner) after he overstepped his boundaries one too many times with Monet (Mary J. Blige).

Ever since the death of Monet's nephew son Zeke (Daniel Bellomy), Whitman has been hot on her tracks trying to pin a murder on her that he thinks she committed, aka Carrie Milgram's (which she committed for sleeping around with Zeke). Note: Carrie and Whitman have history together, too. Whitman, a too-dedicated-to-his-job detective, has also been working with federal prosecutor Jenny Sullivan (Paton Ashbrook) and Detective Blanca Rodriguez (Monique Gabriela Curnen) to aid their Rico case that could get Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), Brayden (Gianni Paolo), and the Tejadas - Cane (Woody McClain), Dru (Lovell Adams-Gray...

‘Power Book II’ Sets Opening Weekend Ratings Record for Starz
Image
The third season premiere of Power Book II: Ghost drew the biggest opening weekend audience ever for a Starz series, the premium cable outlet says.

The show’s March 17 debut brought in 5.8 million viewers across all platforms over its first three days, according to Nielsen and internal data. That makes it the biggest premiere weekend ever for a Starz original series.

Though Starz didn’t break down viewers by platform, based on viewing patterns for other premium series, a large majority of the audience likely streamed the Ghost premiere. The show’s on-air premiere brought in 362,000 viewers, per Nielsen — just 6 percent of the three-day total. That’s in keeping with shows like HBO’s Euphoria, Showtime’s Yellowjackets, and Starz’s own P-Valley, whose initial, on-air viewership makes up just a small fraction of the total.

The 5.8 million viewers also includes multiple replays on the Starz cable channel over the weekend.
