If you have Apple TV+, you will soon be in luck: the streaming service, along with production company Hello Sunshine, has announced that production on its upcoming drama series Luckyhas wrapped. The show, which stars an ensemble led by Anya Taylor-Joy, doesn't have a release date yet, but given that filming is now complete, we should get some more news sooner rather than later.

The series will be based on the book of the same name by Marissa Stapley. It will follow Lucky (Taylor-Joy), a young woman who recently abandoned a life of crime. Image
As Superman sailed into theaters last weekend, a surprising new Cash App advertisement starring Timothée Chalamet hit the big screen before Clark Kent. It sent his fans into a frenzy while outlets like Esquire covered the mysterious collaboration, wondering why it’s nowhere to be found aside from movie theaters.

More has been revealed as the creative two-minute spot debuted online today and Cash App confirmed the details of its first-ever partnership with the two-time Academy Award nominee. It includes the clip, seen below, as well as out-of-home advertising in New York City and Los Angeles, limited-edition Cash App Card stamps designed with Chalamet and more.

For the partnership with the financial platform, Cash App enlisted Chalamet’s previous collaborators Aidan Zamiri and Elijah Bynum to write and direct the spot. Chalamet worked with Zamiri — a photographer and director who has worked with everyone from Billie Eilish and Charli Xcx...

7 Outer Banks Characters Rated Worst to Best
Image
Netflix has no shortage of compelling content, whether it be movies or series. Over the years, the streaming giant has introduced us to several stories, each with its distinct flair and genre, as well as several characters. From menacing villains to eye-catching antagonists.

Well, Netflix’s Outer Banks has a little bit of both. The action-adventure mystery series, which blends treasure-hunting thrills and teen drama against the backdrop of North Carolina’s sun-drenched coast, features a range of compelling characters whose loyalties, betrayals, and ambitions drive the quest for $400 million in gold.

From reckless heroes to scheming villains, each character has helped shape the show’s addictive narrative, reflecting themes of class, friendship, and survival. However, not all characters have managed to create the same level of impact, with several of them failing to reach their full potential because of several reasons.

Hence, while we patiently wait for the fifth...

5 Netflix shows still coming in 2025 (and 3 that could be delayed)
Image
We might be halfway through the year, but Netflix still has several huge shows lined up for the remainder of the year. If you haven't renewed your subscription yet, now is the time! Between Stranger Things and Wednesday, there are plenty of great shows to look forward to throughout 2025, although there are also a few that we fear might be delayed to 2026.

It has been ages since we received any updates on The Witcher and other shows, like The Lincoln Lawyer, only recently wrapped filming for their upcoming seasons. Taking all of this into account, there's a chance those shows and more might have a longer wait time between seasons than we'd like.

The Witcher | Netflix The Witcher might be delayed

We've already been waiting more than two years for the return of Netflix's hit dark fantasy series The Witcher, but it seems like we might be waiting a little...

Artful Desire: Sex, Style, and Scandal in Luca Guadagnino’s Films
Image
A Relentless Output, A Personal Turn Since ‘Call Me By Your Name’ in 2017, Luca Guadagnino has quietly become one of the most consistently productive auteurs working today. He’s not quite working on a clock- but it’s close. With near-annual feature releases, plus the occasional short film or music video nestled in between, Guadagnino’s output is beginning to resemble Woody Allen’s in terms of consistency- that is, if Guadagnino can keep the pace up for another forty-something years. This year continues the streak. After releasing what he has called his most personal project yet, ‘Queer’ (now streaming on HBO Max), Guadagnino already has another film on deck. ‘After the Hunt,’ a psychological drama is set for release this October, starring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield, as well as two Guadagnino alums- Chloë Sevigny (‘Bones and All’) and Michael Stuhlbarg (‘Call Me By Your Name’). Luca Guadagnino’s...

The Pogues Are Back! Outer Banks' Final Season Announces Exciting Production Update With First BTS Cast Images
Image
Outer Banksseason 5 is officially in production, and fresh cast pictures have been released to celebrate the news. Obx has been a wild adventure since the start, but season 4 truly took that to a new level. As our favorite Pogues reluctantly teamed up with Rafe (Drew Starkey) in Morocco to find Blackbeard's long-lost (and fictional) Blue Crown, things went tragically sideways when they were pursued by JJ's (Rudy Pankow's) Kook and treasure-obsessed bio-dad, Groff (J. Anthony Crane). Now, they're headed to Portugal to seek the most delicious treasure of all: revenge.

After Outer Banks season 4's shocking and emotional ending, the remaining cast members, including Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Drew Starkey, and Carlacia Grant, are suiting up in their most breezy Pogue outfits one last time. Outer Banks season 5 is set to be the show's last and is expected to premiere on Netflix next year. Check...

Netflix Reveals First Photos from ‘Outer Banks’ Season 5
Image
Netflix has confirmed that Outer Banks will end with its fifth season, which is set to come out in 2026. Filming has already started in Charleston, South Carolina, and fans have gotten their first peek at what’s coming.

The final season will bring some changes. Two actors, Cullen Moss and J. Anthony Crane, are now part of the main cast. Moss has been around since the beginning as Sheriff Shoupe. Crane, who appeared in Season 4 as Chandler Groff, JJ’s father, is also getting a bigger role. These casting changes suggest that both characters will be more important this season.

Netflix also shared two new photos from the set. The images show the remaining Pogues, but there’s a noticeable change, JJ, played by Rudy Pankow, is missing. He died at the end of Season 4, and it looks like Drew Starkey’s character, Rafe, has stepped into his place in the group.

Netflix reveals Outer Banks season 5 filming start and release window
Image
Oh my goodness! Just look at that Outer Banks season 5 image above. Our favorite cast is posing in the new pic to commemorate the great news that filming for the fifth and final season has officially begun. The cameras are back up and rolling in Charleston, South Carolina to bring us the next chapter of this adventurous tale. Plus, there's more!

Netflix has also finally revealed that the final season of the thrilling teen drama is coming in 2026. This was pretty much a given, with a 2025 release basically not made possible since filming hadn't started yet. Production was supposed to start a little sooner back in May, but was delayed for some reason. Either way, now it has begun, and we can look forward to the drama on our screens next year. Though all of this news is so bittersweet without one important cast member.

I'm still not over the fact that JJ,...

To celebrate the first day of the sweltering season, Netflix is excited to announce that Outer Banks Season 5 production is underway! “Seven years ago, in the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage. That photo sparked an idea for a story of four best friends who only want to have a good time all the time,” reads the statement. “From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure,...

‘Outer Banks’ Final Season Production Is Underway for 2026 Premiere

The Pogues are back! Netflix revealed the first images from production on the fifth and final season of “Outer Banks” on Friday, depicting all of the Pogues — minus JJ.

After a mission to Morocco ended tragically, the crew lost not only the Blue Crown but also a member of their chosen family. Season 5 will continue without Rudy Pankow, it seems – at least from the on-set cast photos.

One of Netflix's best shows just started filming the final season
Image
It's not quite the end of an era at Netflix, but it's definitely the beginning of the end for one of the best Netflix shows of the last five years.

The cast and crew of Outer Banks just started filming the fifth and final season of the hit Netflix original teen series on Monday, June 16.

Netflix has not announced that production has officially started on Outer Banks season 5, but a quick spin on X, Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit reveals that Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Jonathan Daviss, Madison Bailey, Carlacia Grant, and the rest of the cast have started filming new scenes for season 5.

That start date is very much in line with what we'd learned from casting calls and reports about the final season. Originally, it looked like production was going to start in May 2025, but it was pushed back. At Tudum 2025 on May 31, Drew Starkey revealed that production would be starting shortly,...

Chase Stokes seems to hint JJ is still alive in Outer Banks season 5
Image
New evidence suggesting JJ Maybank is alive and Rudy Pankow will return in Outer Banks season 5 has surfaced. This time, it's because of none other than Pankow's friend and former Obx cast mate, Chase Stokes.

The cast of Outer Banks was featured during Netflix's Tudum event in Los Angeles on May 31. After the event, Stokes dropped several pictures from the night on his Instagram. Everything seemed normal until a meme from the game Merge Mansion appeared in the middle of pics of the Outer Banks cast. In the meme, an animated grandma, I guess, has "he is alive" written on her hand.

As we wait for Outer Banks season 5 to begin filming sometime soon for a release in 2026, it's time to look back at the series and discuss some of the most interesting hot takes possible. The most interesting character, the length between the seasons, the truth about that surprising death in season 4, and everything in between. Let's admit a few Obx truths!

5 Outer Banks season 5 characters who will have a bigger role after JJ was killed
Image
Outer Banks season 5 is starting filming very soon, but things are going to look a lot different on set for the final season without Rudy Pankow, who left the series after four seasons. Outer Banks season 5 will be the first season without JJ Maybank as a key character.

In the Outer Banks season 4 finale, JJ was killed by his biological father, Chandler Groff, played by J. Anthony Crane. After burying JJ in Morocco, John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), Kiara (Madison Bailey), and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) are ready to get revenge.

Heading into season 5, there are a few characters who will definitely play a bigger role without JJ. Let's get the list started with Kiara!

Netflix has amassed a truly massive library of hit TV shows at this point. While that list includes oft-cited favorites such as "Stranger Things" and "Squid Game," there is nothing in the streamer's library quite like the teen-focused series "Outer Banks." Part mystery, part drama, part adventure, it's captivated viewers somewhat quietly for four seasons now, with a fifth and final season on the way. Though not usually thought of amongst Netflix's most successful shows, it has proved to be quite popular.

"Outer Banks" centers on a group of realistic, sometimes foolish teens known as the Pogues in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. There exists a divide between the Pogues and the Kooks, the name given to wealthy seasonal residents. A hurricane kills the power for the summer season and it sets off a chain of events that sets the show in motion.

Outer Banks season 5 dealt disappointing update ahead of filming start
Image
Outer Banks season 5 might take a little bit longer to hit Netflix now.

According to a report from What's on Netflix, the cast and crew were supposed to start filming Outer Banks season 5 in May, but that start date has been pushed back to June 16. No reason for the delay has been revealed.

After Outer Banks season 4 dropped on Netflix in the fall of 2024, we heard quickly that season 5 was going to start filming in the spring of 2025. While we thought March or April were the likely start dates, it's clear that season 5's production start is getting a late spring start date. Outer Banks season 5 is the final season of the Netflix original series.

Outer Banks season 5 probably won't be released as early as we thought

In an interview with Port City Daily, creator Jonas Pate revealed the spring start for Outer Banks season 5. Pate also mentioned that production...

Daniel Craig felt no embarrassment filming gay love scenes for ‘Queer’
Daniel Craig felt no embarrassment filming gay love scenes for ‘Queer’.The 57-year-old actor, best known for playing James Bond in five films, appeared on the Italian television show ‘Che Tempo Che Fa’ on Sunday (30.03.25) to discuss the film, and described its intimate homosexual moments as essential to the story. He told host Fabio Fazio: “There are so many things that embarrass me, sex is not one of them... we all do it! “Those scenes were important, to show these people physically together. Without that, the film would have been emptier.”‘Queer’, based on the novel by William S Burroughs, follows American expatriate Lee, played by Daniel, who becomes infatuated with an emotionally distant ex-US Navy serviceman, portrayed by Drew Starkey. ‘The Studio,’ ‘Mid-Century Modern,’ ‘Mufasa,’ and the best of what’s streaming this weekend
Image
Welcome to the Gold Ticket, your VIP guide to the best of award-worthy pop culture for the weekend ahead, curated by the Gold Derby team of experts. (March 28 - March 30)

The main stream: The Studio

It’s not cinema, it's TV.

Created by Seth Rogen and his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg alongside Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez, The Studio takes viewers behind the scenes of an embattled movie studio after a reshuffling of power puts Rogen's Matt Remick, a cinephile with the best intentions, at the top of the mountain. The 10 episode series — the first two episodes of which are now streaming on Apple TV+ — reveals how the proverbial sausage is (or is not) made and how the quest for great art is complicated by money and ego in a uniquely funny series that should appeal to everyone regardless of their familiarity with the so-called "industry."

In addition to Rogen,...

New to Streaming: Queer, Tendaberry, Bring Them Down, A Complete Unknown & More
Image
Each week we highlight the noteworthy titles that have recently hit streaming platforms in the United States. Check out this week’s selections below and past round-ups here.

Bring Them Down (Christopher Andrews)

Christopher Andrews’ Bring Them Down is an endurance test with no payoff. Opening with a jarring car crash on a windy road in rural Ireland, the film soon adds scenes of gruesome animal cruelty, an ear literally being blown off someone’s head, and then further sequences of gruesome animal cruelty. Such onscreen acts can be tremendously moving, of course, when presented in great films––Andrea Arnold’s 2021 documentary Cow a recent example. – Christopher S. (full review)

Where to Stream: Mubi (free for 30 days)

A Complete Unknown (James Mangold)

A Complete Unknown often seems lost in its efforts to live up to this motley pedigree. It follows Dylan (Timothée Chalamet) from the moment he hitchhiked into New...

It started from the very first episode. “Dude, long plane rides make me so fucking horny,” Saxon Ratliff (Patrick Schwarzenegger) declares, out of the blue, in the third-season premiere of The White Lotus. “It’s like, a lot of hot women, away from home, no one to answer to, acting all anonymous,” he continues, while unsubtly adjusting his package as he reclines on a deck chair by the pool of a lavish Thailand resort.
