Alex Warren’s Debut Album Is the Sound of a Chart-Topping Artist Finding His Way
Image
Is it too early for 2010s nostalgia? Singer-songwriter Alex Warren doesn’t seem to think so — and neither do the streaming listeners and radio programmers who have made his sweeping love song “Ordinary” an unlikely pick for 2025’s song of the summer. The ballad has had a stubborn grip on the Hot 100’s top spot for six of the past seven weeks — it briefly ceded Number One to Sabrina Carpenter’s twangy, fizzy “Manchild” in June — thanks in part to its an amalgam of Imagine Dragons’ brute-force rock and The Lumineers’ “hey”-along folk-pop,...

Bonnaroo Announces 2026 Dates, Details Camping and Festival Site Changes
Image
Amid uncertainty over the festival’s future following three cancellations in five years, Bonnaroo has confirmed its return to The Farm in 2026, once again taking place in its traditional June slot. However, organizers say several major changes are in store to help mitigate the risk of future cancellations.

The festival will be held in Manchester, Tennessee, over the weekend of June 11th–14th. The newly announced dates follow the abrupt cancellation of the 2025 edition due to severe flooding—marking Bonnaroo’s third cancellation in five years, including the pandemic-related shutdown in 2020. In response to this year’s suspension, Bonnaroo provided full refunds to attendees and declined to set future dates, instead offering fans a survey to voice their opinions on whether the festival should remain in its usual June slot and its location at Great Stage Park in Manchester.

Now, the festival has confirmed that it will be continuing to...

‘Christy’ Review: Brothers Estranged by the Care System Rebuild Their Bond in a Moving Irish Crowdpleaser
Image
The gray suburban fringes of Cork’s Northside region are gradually colored with hope in “Christy,” an old-fashioned coming-of-age heartwarmer with few narrative surprises but a winningly authentic sense of place, people and vernacular. Following a sullen teenage casualty of the Irish social care system as he’s reunited with his similarly damaged half-brother, slowly regaining a feeling of purpose and belonging in the world, Brendan Canty’s debut feature is satisfyingly expanded from his 2019 short of the same title. In the process, it has become not just a contained domestic drama but a brightly inhabited study of resilient working-class community in a neglected stretch of Ireland’s second-largest city.

A hit with audiences at the Berlinale — where it opened the festival’s youth-oriented Generation 14plus program, and picked up the section’s top jury prize — Canty’s film has since enjoyed a popular international festival run, proving its cultural...

The Sandman recap and review: Season 2, Episode 1, “Season of Mists”
Image
Head to the bottom of this post for The Sandman season 2 review directory

The second season of The Sandman reaches our screens after much controversy in light of the scandal surrounding Neil Gaiman, the creator of the original Sandman comics. Season 2 picks up not too much time after the end of the first season. Dream of the Endless, played by an always-brilliant, deep-voiced, and imposing Tom Sturridge, has reclaimed all his objects of power after his time in prison at the hands of the human occultist Roderick Burgess, who was played back in season 1 by Charles Dance.

The very first scenes of this first episode, “Season of Mists,” show Dream intent on reshaping the Dreaming, his domain, including giving himself a brand new castle as a way to truly symbolize a new beginning. It’s a moment that reminds me why I love fantasy so much, with the swelling music...

Bonnaroo Organizers Ask Fans: ‘Would You Attend Bonnaroo If It Happened in 2026?’
Image
Bonnaroo in the fall? Bonnaroo every other year? Bonnaroo at all? These were some of the questions posed to fans in a survey that could dictate the future of the Manchester, Tennessee, festival. Organizers disseminated the survey on Monday via email and on social media, just a week after Bonnaroo was canceled due to flooded campgrounds.

“Bonnaroovians, we’ve begun the process of looking ahead and starting to plan for the future of Roo and we want to hear from you,” the email read. “The first thing we want to...

Why Barbra Streisand Was “a Bit” Scared to Hit Studio With Bob Dylan to Record New Duet
Image
Barbra Streisand is having breakfast.

It’s Wednesday afternoon, just after 1 p.m., and the legendary artist is sharing blueberries with her three beloved Coton de Tuléars. She’s happy to multitask, however, as there’s work to do in promoting The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two, a new album of duets that drops Friday, June 27. The sequel to 2014’s Grammy-nominated Partners finds Streisand sharing lyrics with Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Sting, James Taylor, Hozier, Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande and more.

The roster reads like a who’s who of the music business, a list that it seems only Streisand could land for one record. “Isn’t it great? I’m very lucky,” Streisand tells The Hollywood Reporter over the phone from her home in Malibu. She’s also counting her blessings that her voice rose to the challenge of recording 11 new songs, a feat accomplished after a grueling...

Barbra Streisand on Her New Album, Not Being Paid Enough for ‘Meet the Fockers’ and if She’ll Ever Direct or Perform Live Again
Image
Barbra Streisand hasn’t stopped working since launching her professional singing career 65 years ago in New York City.

The first performer to earn Egot status, Streisand’s legacy spans music, theater, film and television.

Now 83, Streisand is releasing “The Secret Of Life: Partners, Volume Two,” a collection of duets with Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Laufey, Hozier, Sam Smith, James Taylor, Sting, Tim McGraw and Josh Groban. Both Ariana Grande and Mariah Carey join her on “One Heart, One Voice.”

“The Secret of Life” comes not even two years after she published her massive 970-page memoir, “My Name Is Barbra,” which was accompanied by 48-hour audiobook that she read. She is also in production of a multi-part documentary about her life directed by Frank Marshall.

Even so, Streisand insists, “I’m very lazy. I don’t like to have to work.”

She adds, “I like to be free. I don’t like to have commitments.

Bonnaroo Offers Full Refunds, Won’t Set Future Dates for Now
Image
Bonnaroo has now offered full refunds to those who were hoping to attend last weekend’s 2025 iteration before it was canceled due to extreme weather, and has declined to set any future dates.

In a statement posted to social media, the beloved festivals’ organizers alluded to dissatisfaction with the 75% refund they offered to those who had 4-day tickets upon the initial cancellation. Writing that they are “still listening and actively discussing plans to improve The Farm,” they announced that they are “updating the refund to 100%, rather than the 75% originally offered.”

The statement also suggested that the festival may take some time off, reading, “At this time, we will not be announcing future dates. When plans for the future take shape, you all will be the first to know.”

Elsewhere in the statement, the organizers wrote, “Everyone who works on this show loves Bonnaroo deeply,” and explained that “This cancellation broke our hearts beyond measure,...

Florence Road Are Headed for Stardom and Having Fun While They’re At It
Image
In the charming coastal town of Bray in County Wicklow, Ireland, there’s a stretch of pavement called Florence Road. It’s pretty average, as far as roads go, with quaint houses, a library, a vet, a dollar store, and several coffee shops scattered across it. “It’s not that cute,” jokes drummer Hannah Kelly. “You wouldn’t know walking past that it’s remarkable by any means,” says bassist Ailbhe Barry. “But it’s meaningful to us.”

Florence Road carries so much significance that Kelly, Barry, lead singer Lily Aron,...

Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival Canceled Due to Weather
Image
The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival has been canceled due to severe weather concerns.

The festival announced the news in a Friday Instagram post after issuing a series of weather delays and an evacuation notice earlier in the day. Thursday marked the first official day of the event at the Bonnaroo Farm in Manchester, Tennessee, that was set to last through Sunday, with only one of the four headliners, Luke Combs, delivering a performance before the event was canceled.

“Today, the National Weather Service provided us with an updated forecast with significant and steady precipitation that will produce deteriorating camping and egress conditions in the coming days,” Bonnaroo wrote in their post. “We are beyond gutted, but we must make the safest decision and cancel the remainder of Bonnaroo.”

Bonnaroo, too, revealed that they would be issuing refunds to all one-day Friday, Saturday and Sunday admission tickets purchased via Front Gate Tickets,...

Bonnaroo Cancels Remainder of 2025 Festival Due to Severe Weather
Image
Bonnaroo has canceled the remainder of its 2025 festival due to ongoing extreme weather. After delaying much of Friday’s festivities, organizers officially pulled the plug late Friday night, citing an updated forecast from the National Weather Service predicting “significant and steady precipitation that will produce deteriorating camping and egress conditions in the coming days.”

As a result of the cancelation, all 1-day admission tickets and day parking passes for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday purchased via the festival’s primary ticket vendor, Front Gate Tickets, will be fully refunded. Additionally, four-day admission tickets and 4-day camping accommodations purchased will receive a 75% refund. All refunds will be issued to the original method of payment and may take up to 30 days to process.

Before the weather took a turn, Bonnaroo was able to stage its Thursday programming, featuring performances from headliner Luke Combs, as well as Marcus King, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard,...

Cynthia Erivo Proves She’s a Threat as a Singer-Songwriter, Too, With Subtle but Powerful ‘I Forgive You’: Album Review
Image
The queen of “Defying Gravity” engages in a high level of expectation defiance on “I Forgive You,” her exemplary second album as a singer-songwriter and first release since “Wicked” firmly established her as a universal household name. For those who weren’t keeping track when she released her first solo effort, 2021’s “Ch. 1 Vs. 1,” there will be some surprises in how she veers off anything like a beaten path when it comes to putative crossover.

Because Erivo is a Black woman with a powerful voice who did, after all, portray Aretha Franklin, there might be an expectation she’ll be making an R&b record, throwback or otherwise. That’s busted stereotype No. 1. While “I Forgive You” does have a kind of contemporary R&b stretch to it midway through, in totality, it’s closer to being a grandly moody Hozier record than it is just about anything else. Stereotype No.

‘The Voice’ Playoffs Sneak Peek: Renzo Stuns Coaches With ‘Too Sweet’ (Video)
Image
The playoffs are going to require some very tough decision-making for The Voice coaches — particularly John Legend. In this exclusive sneak peek at Monday’s (May 5) final segment before the live episodes commence, Renzo takes the stage to perform his rendition of Hozier‘s newest radio favorite, “Too Sweet,” and he has a little something for everyone. There are intense runs, impressive high notes, growls galore, and one sustained long note at the end that showcases his rockstar performance power. Legend is grooving along the whole time, but Adam Levine, who was blocked from recruiting Renzo by Legend, is particularly taken by the closing belt. “My guy, my favorite part of that performance was the last four seconds,” he says. “What I mean by that is, I want more screamery. You have the best screaming voice in this competition. I feel like we haven’t heard enough of that from you.

Gold Derby's top news stories for April 30, 2025.

Guy Ritchie, Jake Gyllenhaal reteam for Road House 2

Prolific director Guy Ritchie has officially signed on to direct Road House 2, Amazon MGM Studios' followup to the Jake Gyllenhaal-led action hit. Ritchie takes over from Doug Liman, who left the franchise acrimoniously when Amazon sent Road House straight to streaming instead of giving it a theatrical release. It will be Ritchie and Gyllenhaal's third collaboration, following Guy Ritchie's The Covenant and the upcoming In the Grey. The script is by Will Beall (Bad Boys: Ride or Die). Road House is based on the 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze, with Gyllenhaal as an ex-UFC fighter named Dalton who takes a job as a bouncer at a dangerous bar and comes into conflict with a local gang.

The song played in that 911 death scene has a haunting meaning for a particular character
Image
9-1-1's most recent episode "Lab Rats," left audiences shocked when it was revealed in the final moments of the 2-part contagion story that Bobby Nash knew he had also been inhaling the virus while the team raced to save Chimney. The loss is tragic for the 118, but even more so for Athena, who stood with him in his final moments. The scene was shot and scored with so much emotion behind it, and now we're wondering if the haunting message in the song could be a clue for how we'll see Athena mourn the loss in the series.

Any music used in a television series or film is carefully selected and scored to support the story on screen and build even more layers to what's happening in the action. And with Hozier's "Work Song," which is the track playing in the scene, it's possible that the creative...
