Phil Robertson Dies: ‘Duck Dynasty’ Star Was 79
Image
Phil Robertson — the star of the popular A&e reality television series Duck Dynasty, a professional hunter and businessman — has died at the age of 79, his son and daughter-in-law announced on social media today. The Duck Commander patriarch was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last December.

“We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,” the family said in a statement on Instagram and Facebook. “He reminded us often of the words of Paul, ‘you do not grieve like those who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.’

The post continued, “Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who...

Heather Graham in Place of Bones (2023)
Place of Bones (2024) Movie Ending Explained: What Does Calhoun Learn about the Mother-Daughter Duo Before Dying?
Heather Graham in Place of Bones (2023)
Westerns are making a muted comeback, albeit remixed with more popular genre tendrils, especially horror. Place of Bones (2024), for the majority of its 93 minutes is a small, independent western and remains steadfastly within those genre trappings. From a script by Richard Taylor and directed by Audrey Cummings (Ginny & Georgia), Place of Bones follows mother-daughter duo Pandora (Heather Graham) and Hester (Brielle Robillard) as they face off against a gang of outlaws while holed up in their remote ranch in 1876 Old West.

Place of Bones (2024) Plot Synopsis and Movie Summary

The movie opens with Pandora Meadows and her daughter Hester living in a remote ranch over 95 miles from the nearest town. The mother and daughter share a somewhat contentious relationship. Hester, every morning, would go up to her father’s grave to visit her and then would complete the chores while being corrected on her speech and articulation by her mother,...

Place of Bones review – Heather Graham takes on some bad dudes in gutsy budget western
Heather Graham
A mother and daughter’s isolated life is upended by the arrival of an injured villain and the trouble that follows – but a quiet meditation on womanhood in the west this ain’t

Westerns are ideal for stories hinged on remote isolation; sieges, shootouts, hostage situations all gain an added zing when the good guys and bad guys are a hundred miles from the nearest one-horse town, with no prospect of raising the alarm. That’s certainly the case for Pandora (Heather Graham) and Hester (Brielle Robillard), a widow and her teenage daughter living a long way from civilisation, at a time when civilisation was far from a guarantee of safety.

At the start, as Hester hangs out by her dad’s grave you might imagine you’re in for a sombre relationship-based film, perhaps calling to mind the likes of Kelly Reichardt’s Meek’s Cutoff. Perhaps this will be...

Heather Graham Says Her Beloved Breakout Role 'Feels Like It Was Yesterday'
Image
We spoke with Heather Graham leading up to the release of Place of Bones, a female-led Western film that sees her donning a Southern accent and wielding hefty firearms, all in the name of protecting her daughter in 1870s outlaw society. Graham is reliably superb in all her projects, including this one, and it's hard to believe it's now been 35 years since the celebrated actress stole the show in Drugstore Cowboy with her breakout role in Gus Van Sant's acclaimed drama.

"It's so weird. I mean, I feel very grateful I've gotten to do what I love and that I found a way to do it for my whole life," said Graham, in thinking about Drugstore Cowboy. "It's so weird because part of me feels like it was yesterday, and then part of me feels like it was a long time ago. But I'm grateful I've gotten to work...

Place of Bones Review: A Frontier Tapestry Woven with Care
Image
Set in the untamed wilderness of 1876, Place of Bones immerses viewers in a harsh but strikingly beautiful frontier world. Director Audrey Cummings transports audiences to a remote valley where two resolute souls, Pandora and her daughter Hester, eke out an isolated yet resilient existence. Through Cummings’ skilled direction, we see firsthand the challenging day-to-day survival of these pioneering women, far removed from civilization’s comforts yet enduring through fierce determination.

When an injured outlaw named Calhoun crosses their path, Pandora’s deep-seated compassion surfaces despite the potential risks. As she tends his wounds, secrets are revealed that endanger the security they’ve built. With danger now looming, Pandora must navigate treacherous terrain—both within the lawless land surrounding her and within her own moral code. How she rises to defend all she holds dear will be determined through courage, resolve, and the difficult choices ahead.

Cummings excels at atmosphere, drawing...

Image
Place of Bones offers a feminist-driven approach to the Western genre, featuring complex female characters and a refreshingly different perspective. Heather Graham discusses the challenges of filming on location and building her character's backstory with her acting coach for a more informed performance. Graham also shares her hopes for a return to the Twin Peaks franchise and uncertainty about her character's fate following the season 2 cliffhanger ending.

Heather Graham returns to the Western genre with Place of Bones. Graham has explored a variety of genres throughout her celebrated career, ranging from her early work in Gus Van Sant's crime drama Drugstore Cowboy to Jon Favreau's buddy comedy Swingers, David Lynch and Mark Frost's surreal mystery show Twin Peaks, and Mike Myers' Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, among others. Situated among these are two prior ventures into the Western genre, with the well-received true story drama...

Place of Bones trailer: Heather Graham stars in action-packed horror Western
Image
I always enjoy seeing the horror and Western genres get mixed together, so as soon as I saw that the upcoming film Place of Bones is being described as “action-packed horror Western,” I was sold on checking it out. I didn’t even have to watch a trailer to know I want to see how the movie has turned out – but distributor The Avenue has unveiled a trailer for Place of Bones, and you can check it out in the embed above. The film is set to receive a theatrical and digital release on August 23rd.

Audrey Cummings, who credits include the films Tormented, Darken, and She Never Died, as well as episodes of the TV shows The Haunted Museum, Ginny & Georgia, and Astrid and Lilly Save the World, directed Place of Bones from a screenplay by Richard Taylor, whose credits stretch back to the 1978 car chase flick Stingray...

Brutal Trailer for Horror Western 'Place of Bones' with Heather Graham
Image
"These are hard men, they will kill us! Dead in the dirt." "Then we better kill them first" The Avenue has revealed the trailer for Place of Bones, an indie western horror film made by Canadian filmmaker Audrey Cummings. This already premiered last year at the 2023 Another Hole in the Head Film Festival, and it also played at the 2024 Kingston Canadian Film Festival. Set in 1876 – a mother & daughter, alone on a remote ranch, fight for survival against a gang of ruthless outlaws. Heather Graham and her daughter fight for survival when a wounded outlaw seeking refuge brings a notorious bank robber and his vicious gang, all desperate to reclaim a stolen fortune, right to their doorstep in this action-packed horror western. The cast also includes Tom Hopper, Corin Nemec, Brielle Robillard, Gattlin Griffith, & Cowboy Cerrone. This looks brutal! So many shots remind me of Ti West's Pearl, even though...

New Trailer for Quebecois Indie 'We're Still Together' About Friends
"The compassion of Klein's filmmaking rings true." Outsider Pictures and Strand Releasing has debuted a new trailer for We're Still Together, an indie drama from Montreal that originally debuted at festivals back in 2016. It's just now getting a direct-to-vod release in the Us after years of playing at festivals but no official release. The film is about an unlikely friendship between two lonely individuals - a manic single dad, and an overweight kid who can't get along with anyone. Starring Jesse Camacho and Joey Klein, with Brielle Robillard and Eve Harlow. This won the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Film at the New Hampshire Film Festival in 2016, and a few Actra Montreal Awards for the two lead performances. This looks heartbreakingly honest and moving, a film about how we all have issues yet friendship makes up for it. Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Jesse Noah Klein's We're Still Together,...

Karlovy Vary Review: ‘We’re Still Together’ Is A Smart And Sensitive Micro-Budget Drama
Eve Harlow
“Do you know the difference between looking at someone and staring at them?” Claire (Eve Harlow) asks the question rhetorically, because it’s obvious to her — and to us — that the guy who’s been gawking at her from the candy aisle of her convenience store doesn’t have the slightest clue. Chris (Jesse Camacho), it’s easy to extrapolate, is so used to being stared at that he’s likely forgotten how people prefer to be seen.

The trembling heart of Jesse Klein’s smart, sensitive and instantly engaging second feature (2010’s “Shadowboxing” was his first), Chris only wishes that he could be as invisible as he feels. Living with his mom in a dreary Montreal suburb, the unambiguously overweight twenty-something is hard not to notice but easy to ignore, and so many of his interactions turn sour that he would rather retreat into himself than try opening up.
