Paul Kelly looks straight out of the 90s on the set of American Love Story.
The 28-year-old actor was spotted filming the upcoming Ryan Murphy series in Manhattan on Monday (July 28).
On the set, Paul is seen signing a copy of People Magazine featuring John F. Kennedy Jr. as their “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1999.
Along with signing the iconic magazine, Paul is seen on the set walking a dog, presumed to be the dog that belonged to Daryl Hannah until it was accidentally killed in JFK Jr.‘s care.
American Love Story will follow JFK Jr.‘s relationship with Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, played by Sarah Pidgeon. Their relationship was the subject of much media scrutiny throughout the 90s until their tragic passing in a plane crash in 1999.
If you missed it, JFK Jr.‘s nephew recently referenced this exact magazine cover while calling out Ryan for the series.

Immediately after I Know What You Did Last Summer hit theaters on July 18, there was one thing on the mind of every fan: A sequel. For summer blockbusters, that's always the hope from fans, that the movie will make enough money necessary to confirm that a sequel will be confirmed. This particular horror movie was simply begging to continue with another installment.
As of this writing, it's been less than two weeks since the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot sequel hit the big screen, and the movie has brought in a mild but still impressive worldwide gross of $46 million (and counting) against its $18 million budget. According to director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, even though the movie has broken even, it's not quite enough for a sequel... yet.

In the era of legacy sequels, it was only a matter of time before 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer was also revived for the modern-day. From the title to the threatening image of a hook, it is an iconic slice of ’90s horror which helped revitalise the slasher subgenre and is remembered fondly as part of many viewers’ nostalgia. But, to borrow a line from returning final-girl Julie James, “Nostalgia is overrated,” as we are now left with 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Returning to her hometown of Southport, Ava Brucks (Chase Sui Wonders) reunites with her past friends at the engagement party for her bestie, Danica Richards (Madelyn Cline). As the...

The summer of horror continued this month with the return of I Know What You Did Last Summer. After a 27-year theatrical hiatus, Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Freddy Prinze Jr.) are once again being stalked by the dreaded Fisherman Killer. While the reviews for this fourth installment weren't the best and the box office hasn't been glowing, slasher fans can already pre-order the legacy sequel’s killer 4K steelbook.
The upcoming 4K/Blu-ray/Digital combo-pack steelbook will feature Madelyn Cline’s Danica Richards listening to her meditations while in the bathtub with her blood-red bath bomb on the front cover. This is just like one of the kill sequences in the film. The back cover features an image of the Fisherman Killer’s deadly hook, while the inside art has a photo of the new ensemble cast next to the message “You're Next”. Jack Schlossberg is continuing his feud with Ryan Murphy over his new series Love Story, which in its first season is set to depict the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.
The late JFK Jr. is Schlossberg’s uncle and has called out Murphy for “profiting off” his uncle’s life “in a grotesque way.” Murphy recently addressed those comments as a guest on Gavin Newsom’s podcast, where he said Schlossberg made an “odd choice to be mad about your relative that you really don’t remember.”
After seeing Murphy’s comments, Schlossberg took to Instagram to quote him and ask the television producer to “Say It To My Face.”
“My earliest memories are of John calling me Jackolatern and ‘the nudist,’ picking me up from school, his Pontiac convertible,” Schlossberg posted. “I remember being the ring bearer at his wedding and the day he died.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Worldwide Box Office: Update After 4 Days ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
I Know What You Did Last Summer had an underwhelming start this weekend, its opening weekend. But it has achieved an interesting feat regarding its return on investment: It has earned more than half of its breakeven number worldwide in just four days. Keep scrolling for the deets.
The film debuted at #3 in the domestic box office chart, and it’s not its fault as Hollywood tentpole releases are hogging all the limelight. It is a reboot of the Og classic, which was released in 1997. The film maintains a stronghold at the 3rd rank and is expected to continue until Thursday. On Friday, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released, pushing it further down in the list. The Big 3 – Superman, Jurassic World Rebirth, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps will dominate the box office.

Jennifer Love Hewitt has a brilliant idea, and we’re hoping the 9-1-1 creative team listens to it. On the heels of opening weekend for Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, which sees Hewitt reprise the role of Julie James after nearly three decades since originating it, the actress grabbed a seat opposite Tommy Didario on his I’ve Never Said This Before podcast. It was there that she came up with and spitballed her plans for a one-of-a-kind event that would see 9-1-1 pay homage to the iconic slasher franchise.
During the pair’s chat, the star of the beloved ABC procedural was musing about what might happen to her character — 911 dispatcher Maddie Han — in upcoming episodes when she struck gold with a killer idea:
“What if I get a call at the 911 call center from a girl being chased by a fisherman?...

Sarah Pidgeon is spending another day on set of Ryan Murphy‘s new show.
The 29-year-old actress made her way out of the subway while filming scenes for American Love Story on Tuesday (July 22) in New York City.
For her time on set, Sarah channeled Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy by wearing a black turtleneck, black pants, and black loafers.
The day before, Paul Kelly, who is playing John F. Kennedy Jr. in the series, filmed scenes in a park with Naomi Watts, who is playing Jackie Kennedy Onassis.
American Love Story, which premieres in February 2026, will follow JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy‘s whirlwind romance. The couple passed away in a plane crash in 1999 when she was 33 and he was 38. They were the subject of lots of media scrutiny when their romance began, through their deaths.
Just recently, Sarah responded to backlash from fans over the series.

There’s a new sequel to the 1997 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) and its 1998 follow-up I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (watch that one Here) in theatres now (JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols gave it a 4/10 “dumpster fire” review that can be read at This Link). Jennifer Love Hewitt, who played heroine Julie James in the first two films, and Freddie Prinze Jr., who was Julie’s boyfriend Ray Bronson in those films, reprise their roles – and they’re facing off with a new “Fisherman” killer that’s stalking a whole new cast. The movie features a twist that has been upsetting a lot of fans of the original movies, though, and in an interview with Variety, Hewitt took the opportunity to defend that twist. So we’re going to have to dig into Spoiler territory before we get to her defense.

The director of the latest I Know What You Did Last Summer movie knows about Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.’s chemistry in the new film.
Sony’s feature reboot from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson hit theaters over the weekend, landing in third place at the domestic box office with $12.7 million. Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers and Sarah Pidgeon round out the cast for the latest entry in the slasher franchise that kicked off with the original 1997 film of the same name.
A social media user’s post on Saturday asked fellow fans whether they thought Hewitt and Prinze — who reprise their roles from the original movie and its sequel — “filmed their scenes together” in the 2025 installment. “People are starting to notice the ‘cuts and separate shots,'” the post continued.
Robinson was quick to clear up any confusion surrounding the pair’s scenes.

Ryan Murphy said he was completely unprepared and shocked by the backlash he received over his “American Love Story” adaptation of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s relationship.

The new I Know What You Did Last Summer was as fulfilling of a legacy sequel as they come. It’s difficult to blend legacy with something completely new, but filmmaker Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and her co-scribe, Sam Lansky, did so almost completely seamlessly, delivering a worthy follow-up to the two canon films of the late ‘90s. For years, fans of franchises like Halloween and Scream have been calling for a huge upheaval that would see one of the primary protagonists switch teams and go to bat for the villains. While — so far — other film series haven’t fully gone there, I Know What You Did Last Summer took that leap of faith and turned Freddie Prinze Jr.’s Og character, Ray Bronson, into a rain-slicker-wearing, hook-wielding killer. If you wait long enough, everything comes back around. Still, so much time has passed since the 1998 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer, fans might not know what they did last weekend, let alone 27 years ago.

Update July 20, 2025: Superman is still flying high at the box office.
DC Studios and Warner Bros.' James Gunn-led reboot soared to another box-office victory over the July 18-20 weekend, earning $57.3 million domestically — marking a 54 percent drop from its opening weekend. Universal's Jurassic World Rebirth roared into second place with $23.4 million in its third week, while new releases from Sony's I Know What You Did Last Summer ($13 million) and Paramount's Smurfs ($11 million) struggled with underwhelming openings. Warner Bros.' F1: The Movie rounded out the top five with $9.6 million.

Sarah Michelle Gellar never thought there would be an “I Know What You Did Last Summer” movie released in 2025.
“I don’t think I had that one pegged,” Gellar told me Thursday at the taping of the Las Culturistas Culture Awards in Los Angeles.
The new movie, directed and co-written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, follows a group of former high school friends being targeted by a serial killer a year after they were involved in a deadly car accident.
“Jenn Robinson brought it up to me like three or four years ago – this has been a long process – I thought, ‘It’s such a good idea, but you don’t know. Do people still love the movie? Do people still watch the movie?’” Gellar said.

“Jenn Robinson brought it up to me like three or four years ago – this has been a long process – I thought, ‘It’s such a good idea, but you don’t know. Do people still love the movie? Do people still watch the movie?’” Gellar said.
Just days before Las Culturistas, Gellar appeared...

Superman has transformed into a bonafide crowd pleaser at the box office in a much-needed inaugural win for the Warner Bros.-owned DC Studios, which is run together by James Gunn — also the film’s director — and producer Peter Safran.
The big-budget tentpole was all but assured of staying atop the domestic box office in its second weekend, but estimates were all over the place as to how it would hold up.
But, buoyed by strong word-of-mouth and reviews, it declined a less-than-expected 54 percent to $57.2 million for a pleasing 10-day domestic tally of $235 million through Sunday. That’s a narrow decline for the struggling superhero genre and the same as Marvel’s summer 2024 billion-dollar blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine. Overseas — where the franchise has always faced challenges because of the comic book character’s pro-American traits — Superman earned another $45.2 million for an international tally of $171.8 million and $406.8 globally in a major win for DC and Warners,...

I Know What You Did Last Summer has crept back to the theater screens to kill and slash its way to scare the diehard fans of the slasher/thriller genre from the early 90s.
With a newer and fresher take on the hook-wielding fisherman, Ben Willis, terrorizing teens who hid a dead body (again), I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) has been receiving mixed reviews. But despite a low box-office record, it seems that the franchise has managed to beat one decades-long curse.

In the 2025 movie, one of the film’s killers is revealed to be Ray Bronson, the character Freddie Prinze Jr. originated in the first film.

Is it scary good, or just another trip down a well-worn path? If we’re being totally honest, this franchise probably had its moment back in the day with its original, somewhat corny, but undeniably fun vibe. This latest flick brings a few familiar faces back into the bloody mix, along with some fresh-faced teens, but mostly, it felt like trudging down a path I’d walked too many times before. The basic setup’s still there: a bunch of young folks mess up big time, try to sweep it under the rug,...

Having risen to fame in the late ’90s, Jennifer Love Hewitt was among the many starlets caught in the crosshairs of bubblegum misogyny in the early aughts, particularly when it came to tabloid media and paparazzi.
In a sprawling profile with Vulture tied to the return of scream queen Julie James in the legacy sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer, Hewitt said she only recently realized she experienced sexism en masse while viewing the documentary Framing Britney Spears, which exposes the harsh treatment the singer received from the public and media at the height of her fame and conservatorship.
“When I started watching it, I was like, ‘Oh, they talked to me like that, oh.’ I started crying for her. And then I realized I was crying for me,” the actress said.

During a recent interview with Vulture, Jennifer Love Hewitt said she hasn’t spoken to her “I Know What You Did Last Summer” co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar since the slasher debuted in 1997. Despite the lack of communication, Hewitt maintains there is no beef between them.
“I honestly don’t even know what that was or how that all came to be,” Hewitt said of her rumored feud with Gellar. “I just think people don’t want the narrative to be easy. Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?”
She continued, “I haven’t seen Sarah. Literally, we’ve not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out. That’s why it’s so funny to me. People were like, ‘Say something back’ And I’m like, ‘What am I going to say? I’ve not seen her.

This article contains spoilers for "I Know What You Did Last Summer."
If you're a casual fan of slasher films, you may think an article about who the killer turns out to be in the latest "I Know What You Did Last Summer" movie is fairly standard. Yet the property, despite its resemblance to other slasher franchises, has a few subversive tricks up its sleeve. For one thing, even though it's technically a whodunit film series carrying on the template that began in Lois Duncan's source novel, the reveal of who the killer or killers are in each film isn't typical. To wit: Ben Willis (Muse Watson) was the killer in both the original 1997 movie and its sequel, 1998's "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer," which added Willis' son Will (Matthew Settle) as his accomplice. In the direct-to-video sequel "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,...

“I Know What You Did Last Summer” is back.
The original film, made in 1997, was loosely based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel of the same name, and was a slasher movie in the guise of a morality play – a group of numbskull teens run over a pedestrian and, a year later, are viciously bumped off one-by-one. The cosmic joke of the movie was that, yes, we were rooting for them to survive even if we knew, deep down, that they probably deserved it.
Now, the title and general conceit are back with “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” a legacy sequel that takes the survivors from the first one (Hewitt and Prinze Jr.) and places them into a narrative involving a new group of youngsters who are stalked one year after a similar crime.
But what did they actually do last summer? Read on to find out.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is back, and it features some exciting changes. The slasher franchise premiered in 1997 and has featured some unsuccessful sequels, each entry getting worse reviews from both critics and the audience.
The 2025 legacy sequel changes all that. The new entry has Jennifer Kaytin Robinson at the helm, and a brand-new group of friends with a dark secret, but it also brings back two legacy characters: Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.). I Know What You Did Last Summer is officially out in theaters, and it has critics and audiences in disagreement on Rotten Tomatoes, while also featuring a very exciting franchise first.
I Know What You Did Last Summer debuted with a "rotten" 46% score from the critics. While that sounds awful for every new release out there, its initial score was a franchise best, ahead of the 1997 original with 45%. However,...

James Gunn’s Superman leapt past the $300 million mark at the worldwide box office on Thursday as it heads into its second weekend. That number includes an impressive domestic haul of $177.7 million after enjoying strong midweek business.
The DC Studios and Warner Bros. superhero pic will have no trouble staying atop the chart in its sophomore outing and is trouncing new offerings I Know What You Did Last Summer and Smurfs. Both films are reboots, and are projected to open to less than $13 million domestically.
From Sony’s Screen Gems, the R-rated horror pic I Know What You Did Last Summer earned $2.2 million in Thursday previews. The original “I Know What You Did Last Summer” instantly became an iconic horror film in 1997 thanks to its impeccably cast ensemble consisting of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe. Hewitt and Prinze have now returned to reprise their characters in the requel of the same title, but once she had them aboard, co-writer and director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson faced a daunting challenge: finding rising stars to play the new characters who could live up to the standard set by the first movie.

What’s Good: The slasher formula remains true and proven, so watching the characters die is always fun.
What’s Bad: The revival doesn’t do anything to stand out, and what is there feels rather generic and played out.
Loo Break: Missing the killings might be a bad idea when they are the only element that really makes the film watchable.
Watch or Not?: Only watch if you are a huge fan of the slasher genre. If you aren’t, there is very little here to justify the ticket price.

Some legendary divas just refuse to stay down forever. The 2025 sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer is a genuinely refreshing, stylish, and totally unexpected resurrection of an underrated ’90s classic, pairing glossy next-gen mayhem with a distinctly vintage slasher flair. It’s the perfect Brat Summer massacre, a red Solo cup brimming with sun‑soaked dread and a killer with an appreciation for theatrics.
Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge), the film Trojan-horses traditional horror tropes in neon and camp, weaponizing style and good taste in order to sharpen every silly little beat. The story picks up decades after the original, with a new set of fresh-faced friends: privileged, chaotic, well-intended, and guilty as sin. A year after an unfortunately tame Fourth‑of‑July roadside accident, a brand new “I know what you did last summer” note kicks off a methodically tense and surprisingly funny killing spree.

It's always great to watch an acting duo who have an on-screen chemistry that has snowballed into a very robust relationship off-screen. It always helps, especially when they have to star alongside each other in rom-coms. The entire experience is elevated on the strength of their synergy. On the red carpet for the premiere of I Know What You Did Last Summer earlier this week, Freddie Prinze Jr. revealed to Deadline that he’s gearing up to shoot a brand-new holiday romantic comedy, The Christmas Affair. Even better? He’ll be reuniting with a familiar face, his She’s All Thatco-star, Rachael Leigh Cook.

A legacy sequel to the 1997 slasher written by Scream’s Kevin Williamson, I Know What You Did Last Summer follows a new group of teens as they are targeted by a masked serial killer wearing a fisherman’s slicker, seeking revenge for the ills they committed one year ago by killing someone and leaving them for dead in a car accident. And as with many legacy sequels, their investigation causes them to cross paths with some of the characters from the original film.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is back with a new entry. The 1997 original starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe.
The new legacy sequel brought back Hewitt and Prinze Jr., the only remaining survivors of the two installments. However, although Gellar refused to return, given that her character was killed in the first installment, she attended the new sequel's premiere to support her husband, Prinze Jr. Since Gellar had no interactions with Hewitt, the internet started speculating that the two had a feud, something Gellar clarified on her Instagram immediately.

I Know What You Did Last Summer ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
I Know What You Did Last Summer is back again, but this time with a reboot that drags the old story into fresh waters with new faces, old scars, and the same killer hook. A year after yet another accident, another group of friends ends up being hunted by the Fisherman, the figure that never seems to hang up his raincoat. The new film, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, tries to blend nostalgia with modern frights, and while it lands a few punches, most critics are not biting.
I Know What You Did Last Summer Rotten Tomatoes Score
This time, Madelyn Cline, Jonah Hauer-King, Chase Sui Wonders, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, and Billy Campbell lead the cast. However, the return of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., stepping back in as Julie and Ray from the 1997 original, has been hyped the most.

Chicago – The original 1997 “I Know What You Did Last Summer” was – in the vernacular of “Seinfeld” – a “time slot hit.” Coming from writer Kevin Williamson of the original “Scream” movie, it cashed on the late 1990’s slasher revival by playing off an association with a proven hit without offering anything particularly distinctive or memorable. It was successful, but it wasn’t all that good.
This legacy reboot, taking another page from the Scream playbook, fails to improve on the original. But it does introduce a group of Gen Z protagonists who make you want to root for the sinister Gorton’s Fisherman who’s impaling them with various pieces of fishing gear, including that famous hook.

The anticipated legacy sequel to 1997's I Know What You Did Last Summer finally arrives in theaters on July 18, and the reviews are trickling in. So was the follow-up feature worth the wait? On Rotten Tomatoes, 2025's I Know What You Did Last Summercurrently holds a 46% rating from 46 reviews, indicating that it is, at best, a mixed bag. The new slasher stars Madelyn Cline as Danica Richards, Chase Sui Wonders as Ava Brucks, and Jonah Hauer-King as Milo Griffin, among others, and welcomes back Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. to reprise their roles.
The original I Know What You Did Last Summer also didn't impress critics. While it was a commercial success that topped the US box office for three consecutive weeks, it holds just a 45% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Over time, however, it has become a cult classic.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, director of the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, is revealing the reason Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez were cut from the film.
Back in November 2024, Deadline exclusively reported that the Summer I Turned Pretty star and the Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story actor had joined the cast of the slasher sequel.
However, when viewers see the film on the big screen, neither Tung nor Chavez will appear in the movie, despite having filmed scenes.
“In every movie, it’s best laid plans, and then you edit the movie and you put it together and you go, ‘I love this in a vacuum. This is a fantastic scene. But it doesn’t fit in the movie,'” Robinson said in an interview with People. “It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas — they are both so fantastic.

While Superman will quite easily remain at #1 heading into its second weekend in theaters, the Dcu movie is set to face competition from new releases, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Smurfs.
All three movies will attract vastly different audiences, and Jurassic World Rebirth should continue to pose a problem for all of the above. Still, helping Superman is the largely negative critical reception to I Know What You Did Last Summer and Smurfs.
Despite glowing social media reactions, the horror reboot has arrived on Rotten Tomatoes with a "Rotten" 46% score. The reviews are all over the place; Deadline, for example, writes, "A vapid, utterly hollow husk of revival. And when it isn’t copy-pasting lines straight out of Hewitt’s mouth it resorts to an almost impressively high level of pandering to its Gen Z audience."
Nerdist countered that with, "I Know What You Did Last Summer carves up laughs,...

Almost three decades after its premiere, the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise continues with a new installment. The legacy sequel, titled exactly like the 1997 original, features a brand-new group, but brings back two key victims.
In 1997, Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Barry Cox (Ryan Phillippe), and Helen Shivers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) starred in the slasher as a group who gets into a tragic hit-and-run and vowed to keep it a secret, just to get hunted one year later by a mysterious killer who knew their secret. The 2025 film brings back Julie and Ray, the only survivors of the first two films of the franchise, with a new group of friends. Ahead of the legacy sequel's release in theaters, I Know What You Did Last Summer just broke a franchise record and scored the best score yet: 46% from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes,...
