A brand-new Amityville horror movie is on the way, and it sounds like it’s going to be very different from what fans know. According to Deadline, the new project will be made by BoulderLight Pictures, the company behind Barbarian, and Divide/Conquer, who recently worked on Heart Eyes and M3GAN.

The film is being described as a fresh, modern take on the infamous haunted house legend.

The movie will be directed by Joseph and Vanessa Winter, the husband and wife filmmaking team who gained attention with their found footage horror movie Deadstream, which premiered at SXSW in 2022 and received strong reviews.

They’ll be directing from their own script, although plot details are still being kept secret. Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz will produce for BoulderLight, and Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath will handle production duties for Divide/Conquer.

The original 1979 Amityville Horror film followed a newlywed couple and their children as they battled a demonic presence in their new home. It was based on the 1977 novel by Jay Anson and inspired no shortage of sequels and offshoots.

This new Amityville won’t be based on that IP. Per Deadline, “Its roots are instead in the famed real-life paranormal story behind those stories, with the film offering a fresh look at the notorious Amityville house itself on 112 Ocean Avenue itself, and a legend situated in the public domain.”

Interestingly, Anson’s novel drew historical basis from the grisly 1974 murders in which Ronald DeFeo Jr. killed his parents and four siblings...

There's no getting away from it: Popcorn buckets are most definitely a thing now.

Whether you happen to be of the opinion that these (often bizarre-looking) plastic holders serve as a fun collectible or are a sign of the impending apocalypse, they are usually good for some discussion and a few laughs at the very least. We haven't seen anything quite as Ott or suggestive as the Dune or Deadpool and Wolverine buckets since, but it's probably only a matter of time.

On the heels of a teaser trailer that dropped during February’s Grammy Awards, Universal Pictures downloaded more intel on the anticipated sequel during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation at Caesars Palace on Wednesday afternoon, including an extended trailer (seen below) and a dance party.

Blumhouse turned the reveal into a spectacle that featured 30 dancing M3GAN “dolls” performing to the iconic Britney Spears hit “Oops…I Did it Again” on the Colosseum stage. After they performed the captivating number (choreography included the well-known M3GAN dance), they exited the front of the stage and down the aisles while exhibition insiders looked on.

With notable titles like A24's Heretic and a wide selection from Neon, including Longlegs, Cuckoo and Immaculate, the horror field saw an increase in audience reception. Looking toward the cinematic lineup in 2025, it's clear that the refreshing wave of new horror films is only growing.

One of the more exciting projects heading to Berlin’s EFM (European Film Market) festival next week is Bad Boy, a genre-bending horror film starring Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart. Keeping Bad Boy on a leash during the fest is the film’s producer, Dave Caplan, who produced last year’s chilling thriller Longlegs and M3GAN with Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath.

Bad Boy stars former Goonie and Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart. Jacob Chase is directing the peculiar feature from a script by Travis Braun. According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Bad Boy “charts a young woman’s fight to escape a deadly serial killer through the eyes of man’s best friend, his faithful dog.” Huh?! While Quan and Reinhart’s contracts are signed, sealed, and delivered, the production continues searching for a dog co-star, which Deadline hears will be a terrier.

Black Bear is launching Bad Boy, a new breed of genre film that charts a young woman’s fight to escape a deadly serial killer through the eyes of man’s best friend, his faithful dog. There have been plenty of kids films and some dramas told from an animal’s perspective, but not many horror films.

From the producer of Longlegs, Dave Caplan, and M3gan, Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath, the film is set to star Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Lili Reinhart (Hustlers). Genre director Jacob Chase will direct Travis Braun’s Black List-topping script. Dave Caplan’s company C2 will also fully finance. Filming is due to start in August in Canada.

Olivia Holt’s debut atop a major studio call sheet is going exceptionally well.

The multitalented star of Heart Eyes couldn’t be prouder of director Josh Ruben’s slasher romcom, as it’s one of the most well-reviewed films of the young year. Holt’s lead role is a logical next step given her recent scene-stealing performance in Nahnatchka Khan’s time-travel slasher comedy, Totally Killer (2023). In fact, Heart Eyes producer Greg Gilreath also produced the former, so he recommended Holt to Ruben during the casting process. Similarly, Radio Silence, the filmmaking collective behind Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), put in a good word for their former Scream actor Mason Gooding, and the strength of both endorsements sent Holt and Gooding straight to Heart Eyes’ New Zealand-based set, bypassing a chemistry read between the two romantic leads.

M3GAN 2.0 is set to reach theatres on June 27, 2025, and now we’be gotten our first official teaser, which you can watch embedded above. Based on a story crafted by producer James Wan, M3GAN was directed by Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant). Johnstone returned to the helm for the sequel, and Cooper has written the script.

Per USA Today, a new look has been revealed for the upcoming horror movie Heart Eyes. The new photo reveals a fresh peek at the movie's titular killer, bearing the red hearts in place of eyes that illuminate the shadowy person's face. A lit carousel can be seen in the background. This Valentine’s Day, you might be seeing red. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for “Heart Eyes,” the upcoming horror romantic comedy directed by “Werewolves Within” filmmaker/Dropout regular Josh Ruben.

Written by Phillip Murphy and “Freaky” co-writers Michael Kennedy and Christopher Landon, “Heart Eyes” stars Olivia Holt (“Cruel Summer”) and Mason Gooding (“Scream”) as a pair of unlucky coworkers who find themselves hunted by a masked killer on Valentine’s Day.

The official synopsis reads: “When the Heart Eyes Killer strikes Seattle, a pair of co-workers pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day are mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer. Now they must spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives.”

Jordana Brewster, Gigi Zumbado, and horror mainstay Devon Sawa also star. Ruben expressed his excitement for the project in a previous statement: “My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies.

It should likely come as no surprise that the upcoming Valentine’s Day slasher Heart Eyes received an appropriate slasher rating, and that R-rated stamp comes ahead of the film’s full trailer arriving next week.

The slasher is set to arrive in theaters on February 7, 2025.

To mark the spookiest day of the year, Screen Gems (via Bloody Disgusting) has released the first red band teaser trailer for a new horror movie titled Heart Eyes, and it promises to deliver a bloody Valentine's Day massacre.

Directed by Josh Ruben, the premise focuses on a masked killer known as Heart Eyes who only targets couples.

“My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies," said Ruben in a recent interview. "I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe.”

The teaser doesn't really show us much... until the last few shots, which spotlight a pretty inventive and gruesome kill. We see Heart Eyes plunge a carjack into an unfortunate victim's mouth, then grab his girlfriend and impale her head on the other end of it.
