A brand-new Amityville horror movie is on the way, and it sounds like it’s going to be very different from what fans know. According to Deadline, the new project will be made by BoulderLight Pictures, the company behind Barbarian, and Divide/Conquer, who recently worked on Heart Eyes and M3GAN.
The film is being described as a fresh, modern take on the infamous haunted house legend.
The movie will be directed by Joseph and Vanessa Winter, the husband and wife filmmaking team who gained attention with their found footage horror movie Deadstream, which premiered at SXSW in 2022 and received strong reviews.
They’ll be directing from their own script, although plot details are still being kept secret. Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz will produce for BoulderLight, and Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath will handle production duties for Divide/Conquer.

BoulderLight Pictures (Barbarian) and Divide/Conquer (Heart Eyes) are teaming up for a radical new take on Amityville, and they’ve enlisted Deadstream duo Joseph and Vanessa Winter.
Joseph and Vanessa Winter will helm the feature from their own script.
The original 1979 Amityville Horror film followed a newlywed couple and their children as they battled a demonic presence in their new home. It was based on the 1977 novel by Jay Anson and inspired no shortage of sequels and offshoots.
This new Amityville won’t be based on that IP. Per Deadline, “Its roots are instead in the famed real-life paranormal story behind those stories, with the film offering a fresh look at the notorious Amityville house itself on 112 Ocean Avenue itself, and a legend situated in the public domain.”
Interestingly, Anson’s novel drew historical basis from the grisly 1974 murders in which Ronald DeFeo Jr. killed his parents and four siblings...

The producers behind Barbarianand Heart Eyes are about to bring a new Amityville film to the big screen.
Per Deadline, the production teams at BoulderLight Pictures and Divide/Conquer, who produced Barbarian and Heart Eyes, respectively, are slated to put together a new horror film simply titled Amityville. The upcoming film will be written and directed by Joseph and Vanessa Winter, who previously developed the found footage horror film Deadstream. Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz will produce for BoulderLight with Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath producing for Divide/Conquer.
Amityville is slated to offer a whole new look at the classic stories that inspired the legendary The Amityville Horror franchise. Whereas 1979's The Amityville Horror and its 2005 remake were objectively supernatural, haunted house-style affairs, Amityville will instead explore the real-life paranormal stories behind said films, without actually tying back into them or being related to The Amityville Horror franchise whatsoever. Exclusive: The genre maestros at BoulderLight Pictures (Barbarian) and Divide/Conquer (Heart Eyes) are teaming on Amityville, a radical new spin on the famed haunted house story for a new generation, sources tell Deadline.
Joseph and Vanessa Winter, the married writer-director duo behind the excellent SXSW found footage horror movie Deadstream, are set to direct from their own script. Plot details are under wraps. But Raphael Margules & J.D. Lifshitz will produce for BoulderLight, alongside Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath for Divide/Conquer.
Given that BoulderLight has been under a first-look deal with New Line since 2023, that will be the filmmakers’ first stop with the material, though it’s not yet been exposed to studios. Producers are looking to fast-track the film, with Q4 2025 being targeted for production.

M3GAN grossed over $180 million on a $12 million budget in 2022, making a sequel inevitable. Blumhouse has a new killer doll that's a major box office draw, and she returns this weekend in M3GAN 2.0.
The movie dials back the horror elements seen in that first instalment, becoming more of an action-adventure as M3GAN is pitted against fellow AI, Amelia. In this article, we're taking a deep dive into the movie's ending and the events leading up to an explosive finale.
We also talk about possible post-credits scenes and how this movie sets the stage for M3GAN 3.0, so be warned that spoilers follow from this point on.
Following the events of M3GAN, Gemma now fights for AI to be used responsibly. She eventually meets someone with a similar outlook, Christian, but finds herself targeted by the FBI when Amelia (a M3GAN-inspired super soldier) goes rogue.

M3GAN is back, and things are about to get even more intense. Shown off during IGN Live 2025, a brand-new exclusive clip from M3GAN 2.0 confirms that the creepy AI doll isn’t finished with us yet—and this time, she’s got company.

We figured a new trailer for M3GAN 2.0 would be released at some point this week after some screenshots leaked online over the weekend, and sure enough, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have now released a final trailer for the sequel.
The first movie didn't take itself particularly seriously and contained a lot of humor, but it looks like this follow-up has fully embraced the silliness of the premise to deliver a full-on action comedy with sci-fi/horror elements.
The story picks up with M3GAN's consciousness being transferred into a new (taller) body by Gemma (Allison Williams) after the rampaging doll's underlying tech is stolen and repurposed by a defence contractor into a prototype called Amelia, played by Ahsoka standout Ivanna Sakhno. Thankfully, M3GAN is still fully programmed to protect Cady (Violet McGraw) at all costs... even if everyone around her is expendable.
“It’s the ultimate mean-girl showdown,” Sakhno...

There's no getting away from it: Popcorn buckets are most definitely a thing now.
Whether you happen to be of the opinion that these (often bizarre-looking) plastic holders serve as a fun collectible or are a sign of the impending apocalypse, they are usually good for some discussion and a few laughs at the very least. We haven't seen anything quite as Ott or suggestive as the Dune or Deadpool and Wolverine buckets since, but it's probably only a matter of time.
Alamo Drafthouse has now unveiled a first look at its exclusive M3GAN 2.0 popcorn bucket, which takes the form of the M3GAN's head - and opens into three segments, just like the movie's murderous robot.
We also have a pair of new posters, a brief teaser, and some low-res stills, possibly from the new trailer that's said to be coming our way soon.

The murderous doll who captivated pop culture in 2023 is back. And this time, she's not alone. The original creative team behind the movie - led by horror titans James Wan for Atomic Monster, Jason Blum for Blumhouse and director Gerard Johnstone - will reboot an all-new wild chapter in A.I. mayhem with M3GAN 2.0.
Whereas the first movie was a light-hearted, gory comedy, this follow-up looks like a full-blown action flick, with huge set pieces, choreographed action scenes, and fewer scares. Embracing the wackiness of this franchise's concept could be a smart move or a huge turn-off for M3GAN fans. We'll have to wait and see, but it does look like a lot of fun.
In this newly released trailer, M3GAN gets a new body - after her mind is hilariously placed in a harmless bit of tech - so she can save the world from the sinister Amelia.

M3GAN 2.0 is almost ready for her close-up.
On the heels of a teaser trailer that dropped during February’s Grammy Awards, Universal Pictures downloaded more intel on the anticipated sequel during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation at Caesars Palace on Wednesday afternoon, including an extended trailer (seen below) and a dance party.
Blumhouse turned the reveal into a spectacle that featured 30 dancing M3GAN “dolls” performing to the iconic Britney Spears hit “Oops…I Did it Again” on the Colosseum stage. After they performed the captivating number (choreography included the well-known M3GAN dance), they exited the front of the stage and down the aisles while exhibition insiders looked on.
The performance was introduced by the film’s star Violet McGraw, who is back to reprise her role from the first film. “My friend Allison Williams is stuck in Atlanta shooting right now,” she said of her co-star. McGraw...

McGraw...

Two years ago, “M3GAN” took over not only theaters, but TikTok as well with her infamous slasher dance. So like Chucky before her, this killer doll has been rebuilt and is moving from the winter to the summer in “M3GAN 2.0”
As Violet McGraw explains, the sequel will explore one of the world’s most hot button topics: artificial intelligence. A program called Amelia has been created, has taken over the body of an android and like Hal or Skynet, it has murderous intentions.
Gemma and a grown-up Cady realize they only have one hope to stop Amelia: to rebuild M3GAN. The killer doll agrees to help … but only at a price. She wants upgrades that will make her into the ultimate action hero. Yes, this sequel is going to be an action film as well as a horror one.

2024 was a massively successful year for horror movies, especially those from independent studios. With notable titles like A24's Heretic and a wide selection from Neon, including Longlegs, Cuckoo and Immaculate, the horror field saw an increase in audience reception. Looking toward the cinematic lineup in 2025, it's clear that the refreshing wave of new horror films is only growing.
Whether it's expanding franchises with anticipated, blood-curdling sequels or fresh takes on pre-established horror stories, 2025 contains a diversity of works that will have audiences squealing with joy and fear. If this year's releases are anywhere near replicative of last year's, long-time horror fans and apprehensive newcomers are in for a truly terrifying year.

One of the more exciting projects heading to Berlin’s EFM (European Film Market) festival next week is Bad Boy, a genre-bending horror film starring Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart. Keeping Bad Boy on a leash during the fest is the film’s producer, Dave Caplan, who produced last year’s chilling thriller Longlegs and M3GAN with Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath.
Bad Boy stars former Goonie and Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart. Jacob Chase is directing the peculiar feature from a script by Travis Braun. According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Bad Boy “charts a young woman’s fight to escape a deadly serial killer through the eyes of man’s best friend, his faithful dog.” Huh?! While Quan and Reinhart’s contracts are signed, sealed, and delivered, the production continues searching for a dog co-star, which Deadline hears will be a terrier.

Exclusive: Here’s a novel package that should generate some heat in the cold of Berlin’s EFM next week.
Black Bear is launching Bad Boy, a new breed of genre film that charts a young woman’s fight to escape a deadly serial killer through the eyes of man’s best friend, his faithful dog. There have been plenty of kids films and some dramas told from an animal’s perspective, but not many horror films.
From the producer of Longlegs, Dave Caplan, and M3gan, Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath, the film is set to star Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Lili Reinhart (Hustlers). Genre director Jacob Chase will direct Travis Braun’s Black List-topping script. Dave Caplan’s company C2 will also fully finance. Filming is due to start in August in Canada.

Olivia Holt’s debut atop a major studio call sheet is going exceptionally well.
The multitalented star of Heart Eyes couldn’t be prouder of director Josh Ruben’s slasher romcom, as it’s one of the most well-reviewed films of the young year. Holt’s lead role is a logical next step given her recent scene-stealing performance in Nahnatchka Khan’s time-travel slasher comedy, Totally Killer (2023). In fact, Heart Eyes producer Greg Gilreath also produced the former, so he recommended Holt to Ruben during the casting process. Similarly, Radio Silence, the filmmaking collective behind Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), put in a good word for their former Scream actor Mason Gooding, and the strength of both endorsements sent Holt and Gooding straight to Heart Eyes’ New Zealand-based set, bypassing a chemistry read between the two romantic leads.

The murderous doll who captivated pop culture in 2023 is back. And this time she’s not alone.
The original creative team behind that phenomenon—led by horror titans James Wan for Atomic Monster, Jason Blum for Blumhouse and director Gerard Johnstone—reboot an all-new wild chapter in A.I. mayhem with M3GAN 2.0- in theaters June 27.
Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.
Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia, the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases,...

The first teaser for this year’s sequel to 2022’s sci-fi horror hit M3GAN, M3GAN 2.0, has now sashayed its way online. And, while the footage doesn’t reveal much from the movie, instead reminding us of the viral dance routine from the first outing, the newly revealed synopsis confirms that the follow-up will take inspiration from one of the greatest sci-fi action movies ever made: Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Revealing that M3GAN 2.0 (or Megan 2), will pick up two years after the first outing, the sequel will, much like the Terminator before it, find the AI doll turn good to save humanity from an even worse version of herself. You can check out the new teaser and synopsis below.

The murderous doll who captivated pop culture in 2023 returns this year in M3GAN 2.0. However, she's not alone. The original creative team behind the movie - led by horror titans James Wan for Atomic Monster, Jason Blum for Blumhouse and director Gerard Johnstone - return for a follow-up which promises to put a new spin on the deadly A.I.
The first teaser trailer and poster was released during the Grammys and, after M3GAN shows off some dance moves, she asks, "Miss me?" before laughing to herself in an expectedly sinister fashion.
A full trailer surely can't be far behind but, in the meantime, we have the first official plot details for the sequel:

“This bitch is back.” So says the teaser trailer for Universal’s M3GAN 2.0, the sequel to the 2022 box office smash hit M3GAN, that was released during Sunday’s Grammy Awards.
The brief clip didn’t give much away in terms of plot but should get fans hyped for the June 27, 2025, release from Blumhouse Productions, Atomic Monster and Divide/Conquer production. We do see murderous doll and all round charmer M3GAN as she sashays towards the camera, asking the viewer: “Miss me?”

The sci-fi thriller M3GAN (read our review Here, get a copy Here) was such a financial success when it reached theatres in January of last year, it didn’t even take Universal Pictures and production companies Blumhouse and Atomic Monster two weeks to announce that they’d be re-teaming for a sequel. Valentine’s Day has always been a time for romance, but Heart Eyes, the new slasher film from Spyglass and Screen Gems, is set to drench the holiday in blood. Arriving in cinemas on February 14, 2025 in the UK and Ireland (and February 7th in the US), the film redefines the season of love with a chilling premise: no couple is safe from the deadly “Heart Eyes Killer.”
Directed by Josh Ruben, Heart Eyes centres on the Heart Eyes Killer, a masked figure infamous for his Valentine’s Day killing sprees. For years, he’s targeted romantic couples, turning their celebrations into unspeakable tragedy. This year, the killer adds a macabre twist by stalking a pair of platonic co-workers he mistakenly believes are romantically involved. The new photo reveals a fresh peek at the movie's titular killer, bearing the red hearts in place of eyes that illuminate the shadowy person's face. A lit carousel can be seen in the background. It should likely come as no surprise that the upcoming Valentine’s Day slasher Heart Eyes received an appropriate slasher rating, and that R-rated stamp comes ahead of the film’s full trailer arriving next week.
The slasher is set to arrive in theaters on February 7, 2025.
Heart Eyes has been rated “R” for “strong violence and gore, language and some sexual content.”
In the film, “For the past several years, the Heart Eyes Killer has wreaked havoc on Valentine’s Day by stalking and murdering romantic couples. This Valentine’s Day, no couple is safe.”
Heart Eyes’ first red-band teaser signaled an R-rated slasher ahead, complete with a brutal kill, but it’s nice to receive official confirmation that this horror movie will embrace the holiday’s “red“ color scheme via bloodletting and gore.

Let’s take a look at them:
From M3GAN 2.0, we see an image of the killer doll M3GAN, reunited with returning M3GAN star Violet McGraw. Allison Williams is also back for the sequel, as are Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps. This time, they’re joined in the cast by Ivanna Sakhno (Ahsoka), who is said to have landed a major part in the sequel, Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows), Timm Sharp (Blunt Talk), and Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night Live). Happy Halloween!
To mark the spookiest day of the year, Screen Gems (via Bloody Disgusting) has released the first red band teaser trailer for a new horror movie titled Heart Eyes, and it promises to deliver a bloody Valentine's Day massacre.
Directed by Josh Ruben, the premise focuses on a masked killer known as Heart Eyes who only targets couples.
“My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies," said Ruben in a recent interview. "I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe.”
The teaser doesn't really show us much... until the last few shots, which spotlight a pretty inventive and gruesome kill. We see Heart Eyes plunge a carjack into an unfortunate victim's mouth, then grab his girlfriend and impale her head on the other end of it.

M3GAN 2.0, which is set to reach theatres on June 27, 2025, has already wrapped production – and producer Jason Blum and returning star Allison Williams were both at the New York Comic Con to hype the sequel up a bit. During the Blumhouse panel at Nycc, Williams said M3GAN 2.0 is bigger and more expansive than its predecessor.
Based on a story crafted by producer James Wan, M3GAN was directed by Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant). Johnstone returned to the helm for the sequel, and Cooper has written the script.

Horror fans, we're happy to report that the upcoming Spyglass horror rom-com Heart Eyes finally has a theatrical release date. Unfortunately, the movie won't be coming out this year, which was expected since production just recently wrapped in New Zealand in July. The film is currently in post-production. However, Sony will be releasing this movie in theaters early next year. Feb. 7, 2025, to be exact. Don't forget to save the date!
Heart Eyes is described as a Valentine's Day slasher. Josh Ruben directed the film from a screenplay co-written by Phillip Murphy (Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard), Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy.
Taking place in Seattle, Washington, Heart Eyes follows a pair of co-workers working overtime at their job during Valentine's Day. But things take a turn for the worse when an infamous couple-hunting murderer known as the "Heart Eyes Killer" shows up at their job and mistakes them for a couple.
