It’s not too uncommon for vessels to change captains on Deadliest Catch. However, recently, fans have been wondering what happened to one captain in particular. On social media, some fans had been asking about Captain Murray Gamrath, known for working with Phil Harris aboard the F/V Cornelia Marie.

Captain Murray Served As A Seasonal Captain On Deadliest Catch

On the series, Gamrath served on, and later becoming action captain of, the F/V Cornelia Marie. Introduced in the second season, the vessel was originally captained by Phil Harris.

Late within the fourth season, Gamrath served as an acting captain during the Opilio season. The fifth season also saw Gamrath take up the role during the King Crab season.

Tragically, however, Harris died at the age of 53 in 2010, after enduring an intracranial hemorrhage. The sixth season of the series would be the last to feature him.

Josh Harris hasn’t appeared on Deadliest Catch since 2022. However, the figure recently became the topic of discussion in an online discussion. During the discussion, the reason why Harris left the series also notably came to light.

The TV Personality’s Past Returned To Haunt Him

Josh is the son of the late Phil Harris, who served as the captain of the F/V Cornelia Marie. At times, Josh himself has served as the co-captain of the F/V Time Bandit, as well as the F/V Cornelia Marie.

From 2020 to 2022, Josh notably appeared in the spin-off, Deadliest Catch: Bloodline. Set in Hawaii, the series’ three seasons followed Josh, Casey McManus, and Jeff Silva as they researched notes left by Josh’s father Phil.

Discovery Channel is preparing to launch “Deadliest Catch: Bloodline,” a spinoff of the network’s hit unscripted series “Deadliest Catch.”

“Bloodline” follows Josh Harris, the son of legendary Bering Sea captain Phil Harris. Josh, along with his business partner Casey McManus, discover a trove of Hawaiian fishing charts scribbled with Captain Phil’s handwriting. Josh takes the opportunity to travel to the islands and learn about the time his father spent their decades earlier.

To gain a deeper understanding of fishing in Hawaii, the duo enlists the help of Jeff Silva, one of the island’s top commercial fisherman to help them learn the challenging fishery, interpret Phil’s charts, and hunt for the islands’ lucrative bounty of ahi tuna.

“Deadliest Catch: Bloodline” will debut on Discovery Channel on April 14 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt. Following the premiere, episodes will debut Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.

The title “Deadliest Catch” wasn’t just pulled out of a hat for Discovery’s hit deep-sea crabbing series.

On Tuesday’s season finale episode, Cody Rhodes (not to be confused with Aew’s Cody Rhodes) must be helicopter-lifted off of the F/V (Fishing Vessel) Karie Marie’s deck — but first, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer must get to him first.

Two hours earlier, Rhodes “took the falling force of a 1,000-pound steel crab pod to his left leg, twisting the flesh and bone, resulting in a gruesome spiral fracture of his fibula and tibia,” series narrator Mike Rowe tells us.

Tony Lara died Saturday at age 50 in Sturgis, S.D. The captain appeared on Discovery's Deadliest Catch at the helm of a boat called the Cornelia Marie. Lara was in South Dakota for its annual motorcycle rally when he died over the weekend in a private home. Meade County Sheriff Ron Merwin is awaiting autopsy results to determine his cause of death.
