It’s not too uncommon for vessels to change captains on Deadliest Catch. However, recently, fans have been wondering what happened to one captain in particular. On social media, some fans had been asking about Captain Murray Gamrath, known for working with Phil Harris aboard the F/V Cornelia Marie.
Captain Murray Served As A Seasonal Captain On Deadliest Catch
On the series, Gamrath served on, and later becoming action captain of, the F/V Cornelia Marie. Introduced in the second season, the vessel was originally captained by Phil Harris.
Late within the fourth season, Gamrath served as an acting captain during the Opilio season. The fifth season also saw Gamrath take up the role during the King Crab season.

Tragically, however, Harris died at the age of 53 in 2010, after enduring an intracranial hemorrhage. The sixth season of the series would be the last to feature him.

The TV Personality’s Past Returned To Haunt Him
Josh is the son of the late Phil Harris, who served as the captain of the F/V Cornelia Marie. At times, Josh himself has served as the co-captain of the F/V Time Bandit, as well as the F/V Cornelia Marie.
From 2020 to 2022, Josh notably appeared in the spin-off, Deadliest Catch: Bloodline. Set in Hawaii, the series’ three seasons followed Josh, Casey McManus, and Jeff Silva as they researched notes left by Josh’s father Phil.

The Former Deadliest Catch Captain Is Hitting The Waters In Style

Spoiler Alert! This story contains plot points from Friday’s season 3 premiere of Fire Country on CBS.
In the episode titled “What the Bride Said,” catastrophe wreaked havoc on the Diego and Gabriela nuptials, but it wasn’t because of anything Bode did after we last saw him leave the church in the season 2 finale.
Instead, a helicopter crashed through the stained glass window and cast a pall on the ceremony, prompting everyone in attendance to spring into action and help the victims. Here, showrunner Tia Napolitano addresses why she decided to delay the will-they-or-won’t-they drama and what we can expect from part 2 of what we’re unofficially dubbing Copter-nado.
Deadline How many different scenarios did you have for the wedding?
Tia Napolitano We talked about a lot of stuff. We really looked at what viewers are familiar with in terms of weddings that didn’t end up happening.

Deadliest Catch: Bloodline was suddenly canceled, likely due to legal troubles faced by Josh Harris, involving a past conviction of assault. Discovery+ swiftly removed Bloodline from its platform, leaving fans surprised and confused about the sudden disappearance of the show. While Bloodline may no longer be available for streaming, other spinoffs of Deadliest Catch can still be enjoyed on different platforms.
Deadliest Catch: Bloodline was supposed to be the next entry in the wildly popular Deadliest Catch reality TV franchise, but now it's nowhere to be found, and there's a pretty upsetting reason why. Deadliest Catch has had three spinoff series since it premiered in 2005: Dungeon Cove, The Viking Returns, and Bloodline. Bloodline premiered in April 2020 and lasted for three seasons. The show follows Josh Harris and Casey McManus, captains of one of the most popular boats on Deadliest Catch, the F/V Cornelia Marie.

The late Captain Tony Lara made a strong impact on Deadliest Catch in season 7, replacing Phil Harris on the Cornelia Marie. Lara's tragic death from a heart attack in 2015 shocked his former co-workers and friends, who celebrated his legacy online. Despite his short time on the show, Lara's competence and mentorship left a lasting impression on the crew of the Cornelia Marie.
Tony Lara was a captain on Deadliest Catch who tragically passed away after his short stint on the show. While there are plenty of faked moments in the Discovery Channel reality series Deadliest Catch, that doesn't mean the core concept of the show is phony. These are real fishermen on the boats doing legitimately dangerous work to fish for king crabs in the unpredictable Bering Strait. This type of work attracts a certain kind of person willing to put themselves at risk for pay and for adventure.

Cornelia Marie disappeared from Deadliest Catch due to captain Josh Harris' legal troubles and the show cutting ties with him and co-owner Casey McManus. The ship's last appearance was in season 18, and it did not return for season 19 or 20. There's a possibility of Cornelia Marie's return to Deadliest Catch with Taylor Jansen at the helm, but its future remains uncertain.
It's unclear what exactly happened to the Cornelia Marie when it suddenly disappeared from Deadliest Catch, but some behind-the-scenes issues have shed light on the ship's unanticipated absence. The Cornelia Marie is one of the most recognizable boats on Deadliest Catch, with its long tenure on the show, yellow and blue hull, and renowned captains. It's a ship even casual fans would recognize. Until season 6, Cornelia Marie was helmed by the fan-favorite captain, Phil Harris, who also co-owned the boat. However, tragedy struck.

Deadliest Catch fans will always feel sorrow when they think about F/V Cornelia Marie because Captain Phil Harris died after a stroke. The Discovery Channel dropped the vessel and the crew after Josh Harris took a guilty plea for sexual assault of a minor. But might it return to the show now?
Josh Harris In Deadliest Catch
When Josh Harris was fired, he and F/V Cornelia Marie were featured in Bloodline and the original show. Deadliest Catch fans found out in Season 19, that F/V Cornelia Marie wasn’t returning. And, it wasn’t the fault of Captain Casey McManus. The Discovery Channel distanced itself after the news that Josh orally and vaginally assaulted a young girl.

If the Discovery Channel was angling for a hit show, then they hauled it in with the “Deadliest Catch,” which premiered in 2005 and has aired every year since.
The documentary series, narrated by Mike Rowe, follows crab fishermen and crab boats as they ply their dangerous and sometimes deadly trade in the Bering Sea during the Alaskan king crab and snow crab fishing seasons. The base for the crab fleet is the Aleutian Islands port of Dutch Harbor, Alaska.
Through the years of the TV show’s airing, it has proven popular around the globe, making the skippers, their crewman, and their boats, celebrities in their own right.
This year’s season, which kicks off with a two-hour premiere on April 19, finds the crews of nine crab vessels trying to cope with the Alaskan government shutting down red king crab catching for the season. You’ll also find them contending with the usual treacherous seas,...

The title “Deadliest Catch” wasn’t just pulled out of a hat for Discovery’s hit deep-sea crabbing series.
On Tuesday’s season finale episode, Cody Rhodes (not to be confused with Aew’s Cody Rhodes) must be helicopter-lifted off of the F/V (Fishing Vessel) Karie Marie’s deck — but first, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer must get to him first.
Two hours earlier, Rhodes “took the falling force of a 1,000-pound steel crab pod to his left leg, twisting the flesh and bone, resulting in a gruesome spiral fracture of his fibula and tibia,” series narrator Mike Rowe tells us.
