Why Cats Can Talk In Dead Boy Detectives Season 1
Image
The Cat King in Dead Boy Detectives is a trickster with an army of talking cats who act as his spies and informants. The comics feature talking cats that help the boys independently, but the show adds the Cat King as a new construct to explore more themes. Neil Gaiman's work often includes supernatural cats, with the Sandman series having a story about cats dreaming of a world where they rule.

There are many supernatural elements in Dead Boy Detectives, but perhaps the quirkiest and most charming is that in the universe of the show, cats can talk. Cats play a crucial role behind the scenes in the supernatural creature-filled world of Dead Boy Detectives, acting as go-betweens between Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri) and the Cat King (Lukas Gage). They also ferry information to whoever needs it with a few conditions.

Cats aren't the only important animal in the show,...

Dead Boy Detectives Cast & Character Guide
Image
Warning! Contains minor spoilers for Dead Boy Detectives.

Dead Boy Detectives delivers intriguing supernatural stories with well-written characters and stellar performances by the cast members. Initially an HBO spin-off, Dead Boy Detectives became a Netflix show tied to The Sandman series, offering unique quirkiness and intrigue. The monster-of-the-episode format and the exceptional cast make the character beats relatable and fun, maintaining viewer engagement.

Dead Boy Detectives presents several intriguing supernatural stories, but its drama is further elevated by its well-written characters and the performances of the cast members who play them. Based on Neil Gaiman's DC Comics characters of the same name, the Dead Boy Detectives made their first television appearance in HBO Max's Doom Patrol. Owing to this, the Dead Boy Detectives series was initially supposed to be a spin-off of the HBO series.

However, the Neil Gaiman adaptation was later taken over by Netflix, making it a...

Dead Boy Detectives (2024) Season 1 Review — Thrills and Grim LOLs
Image
Dead Boy Detectives was initially developed for television by HBO Max in 2021. After a long and winding road of purgatory, the series eventually is reaching Netflix in early 2023. (Please note that this has nothing to do with Netflix licensing Max properties as of late.) The adaptation of DC Comics has a cult following that can tap into every popular young demographic.

Now, every comic book property will continuously develop in the ever-competitive streaming landscape. This makes it more surprising how ordinary, at times, Dead Boy Detectives can be, considering Netflix’s binge model. Dead Boy Detectives is like a purgatory Hardy Boys procedural, with the boys trying to solve a new case weekly.

However, as the series progresses, you see its overall potential. You hope the streaming giant will allow Dead Boy Detectives to achieve that potential.

Dead Boy Detectives trailer mixes paranormal cases with My Chemical Romance
Image
Once set up at the Max streaming service, the TV series Dead Boy Detectives, which is based on characters Neil Gaiman created for DC Comics in the pages of The Sandman issue #25, is now calling Netflix its home, having moved away from Max last year because it “doesn’t fit with DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the Dcu.” Netflix has set an April 25th premiere date for the show, and with that date just a few weeks away, a trailer has arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above to see the titular characters deal with paranormal cases while My Chemical Romance plays on the soundtrack.

Since these characters were introduced in the comic book The Sandman, it seems fitting that they ended up on Netflix, as the streamer is also home to the live-action The Sandman series.

Release Date and New Photos Revealed for Netflix’s ‘Dead Boy Detectives’
Image
‘Dead Boy Detectives’ is an upcoming supernatural detective comedy-drama TV series developed by Steve Yockey, based on DC Comics characters by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. The show follows Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, who opt to stay on Earth investigating supernatural crimes instead of entering the afterlife.

Initially announced in 2021 as a spinoff of ‘Doom Patrol’ on HBO, the series switched to Netflix in February 2023. The decision was reportedly due to conflicts with the vision for HBO Max’s DC Universe by DC Studios’ co-CEOs and marketing constraints. Neil Gaiman confirmed on April 20, 2023, that the series would share a universe with ‘The Sandman.’

After much anticipation, the show finally has a release date set for April 25, 2024, which is just over a month away. It’s close enough to start feeling excited! You can also view the latest official photos of the show.

‘Dead Boy Detectives’ is a new and upcoming supernatural detective comedy-drama TV series developed by Steve Yockey, adapted from the DC Comics characters created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. The series will be focusing on Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine who decided to refuse to enter the afterlife and focus on investigating crimes caused by supernatural means on Earth.

The show was first announced in 2021 when HBO ordered a pilot for the series, the show was meant to be a spinoff of ‘Doom Patrol.’ The series transferred rights from HBO Max to Netflix in February 2023. Netflix's Dead Boy Detectives Solve Ghostly Mysteries In First Trailer For The Sandman Spin-Off
Image
Things at Warner Bros. Discovery are unstable right now, as their recent shelving of "Coyote Vs. Acme" for the quick boost of a tax write-off shows. As a result, Steve Yockey ("The Flight Attendant") might be breathing a sigh of relief that his series, "Dead Boy Detectives," was shopped around to Netflix.

The series is a DC Comics property, however, according to the Hollywood Reporter, but didn't fit with James Gunn and Peter Safran's new plans at DC Studios. Originally intended to be a spin-off of the Max original series "Doom Patrol," it will instead be set in the same universe as Netflix's "The Sandman," the live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed Vertigo comic. The Dead Boy Detectives, Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, first appeared in "The Sandman" issue #25. True to their name, they're a pair of dead boys who decided to stay on Earth investigating crimes instead of leaving for the afterlife.

Image
Rebel Wilson says her new dating app Fluid is more than just a piece of tech.

“It’s not just a dating app, it’s a kind of movement. It’s a rejection of categorization and that notion that you have to be one thing. What if there wasn’t a closet? What if everyone is just a person and we are all equal,” she told The Hollywood Reporter recently during the app’s launch party at Evan Funke’s new 90210 hotspot Funke. “Our app is for everyone. It’s truly the most inclusive — you can be anywhere on the sexuality spectrum.”

Founded by Wilson with Carly Steel, Khalid Karim and Jacob Andreou, Fluid aims to disrupt the dating landscape by “celebrating individuality and breaking away from limitations imposed by categorization and traditional definitions of sexual orientation,” per the app. It removes the requirement for users to label their sexuality...

Brandy to reprise role of Cinderella 25 years on
Image
Brandy will be slipping into those glass slippers once more, this time for the forthcoming Descendant sequel.

The singer’s reprisal of her role as Cinderella comes 25 years after she first made history as the first Black actor ever to portray the iconic Disney princess. Her original performance was in Walt Disney Television’s 1997 iteration of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s beloved musical Cinderella.

The Pocketwatch, a new story in the Descendant franchise, will see Brandy’s Cinderella journey to the kingdom of Auradon, an unincorporated territory of Wonderland, the magical and mysterious location in Alice in Wonderland.

After Cinderella’s teenage daughter Chloe (Malia Baker) crosses paths with Red (Kylie Cantrall), the teenage daughter of the tyrannical Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), unexpected chaos in Auradon ensues.

“In order to prevent an impending coup, they must join forces to travel back in time, via a magical pocket watch created by the Mad Hatter’s son,...

Brandy Will Return To The Role Of Cinderella In Disney+ Descendants Prequel The Pocketwatch
Image
Whitney Houston was right: "Impossible things are happening every day." The first Black woman to ever play Cinderella on screen and the Vocal Bible herself, Brandy will be wearing her glass slippers once again as she reprises the role for the "Descendants" prequel film, "The Pocketwatch" for Disney+, according to Variety. Brandy first played the role in the 1997 "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella" made-for-tv movie. At the time of release, the film was the most expensive made-for-tv film in history, a delightfully zany adaptation of the classic tale featuring catchy songs, an unbelievable costume design from Ellen Mirojnick, and a racially diverse cast that was a revolution.

"The Pocketwatch" takes place in the ridiculously popular "The Descendants" franchise, which focuses on the children of some of Disney's most memorable characters. The story centers on Red (Kyle Cantrall), the rebellious teenage daughter of the Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), who crosses paths...

Brandy Returns as Cinderella in New Disney+ ‘Descendants’ Film
Image
One of Disney’s most beloved princesses is coming back onscreen. Brandy will reprise her role as Cinderella for a new Disney+ film in the “Descendants” franchise.

Brandy previously famously portrayed the fairytale princess in a TV film adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” musical, which was watched by 60 million viewers when it first aired on ABC in 1997. The film’s inclusive and diverse casting — which included Brandy as the first Black woman to play Cinderella, Whitney Houston and Whoopi Goldberg as the Fairy Godmother and the Queen, and Paolo Montalbán as a Filipino Prince Charming — was widely regarded as groundbreaking, and the film has since become considered a classic. This August, Brandy reunited with the cast of the film for an ABC special to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The new “Descendants” film, currently under the working title “The Pocketwatch,” will be the first time in the role since the 1997 film.
