15 Brilliant Tarantino Movie References in Breaking Bad
Image
Breaking Bad was an epic crime drama on AMC that pulled inspiration from numerous shows and movies. One of their biggest influences came from the director Quentin Tarantino. Tarantino has always been known for a unique style and quirky dialogue, all while diving deeper into violent depictions of realistic situations. The creators of Breaking Bad were clearly big fans of Tarantino's work because there were numerous references to Tarantino's films throughout the five seasons of the show.

Breaking Bad has Easter Eggs referencing the movies Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Jackie Brown within the show. Pulp Fiction was most frequently referenced, but it wasn't just about these films by Tarantino. Breaking Bad took on stylistic choices in dialogue, demonstrated graphic violence, and even embraced realism just like Tarantino.

If Jackie Brown Had An Unlimited Budget, Quentin Tarantino Knows Who He'd Cast
Image
As much as it rules, "Jackie Brown" has always sort of been treated like the black sheep of Quentin Tarantino's filmography. It's just not quite Tarantino's usual style — a book adaptation that lacks Tarantino's signature ultraviolent flair. The story of a flight attendant who's caught smuggling money lacks the scale and complexity of some of Tarantino's other work.

The film stars Pam Grier in her first major leading role since her time starring in blaxploitation films like "Foxy Brown" and "Coffy" in the '70s. "Jackie Brown was basically the extension of all those other characters," said Grier in a 2018 Variety interview, citing her past work's influence on her role. "Jackie Brown was an extension of having to be forceful." Along with Grier, the film starred Robert Forster, who received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a bail bondsman and Grier's love interest.

Bryan Cranston
Breaking Bad: Bryan Cranston Has Some Thoughts on the Malcolm in the Middle Prequel Theory
Bryan Cranston
He is the one who knocks…on the front door of 12334 Cantura Street.

If that sentence makes any sense to you, congrats! Your brain is irrevocably broken by television and you are aware of a popular fan theory surrounding two important Bryan Cranston roles: good father Hal on Malcolm in the Middle and bad father Walter White on Breaking Bad.

The theory posits that Albuquerque drug kingpin Walter White actually survived the events of the violent Breaking Bad finale and in turn entered into the vacuum salesman Ed Galbraith (Robert Forester) criminal protection program and re-emerged as working class father Hal on Malcolm in the Middle.

This week Cranston stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Here is what he had to say about said theory.

“I’m not at liberty to disclose that kind of information without security clearances. I think it’s fun…I don’t know.

‘Walking Dead’ Ratings Rise In Midseason Return; ‘Better Call Saul’ Solid After Long Absence
Andrew Lincoln in The Walking Dead (2010)
There was a distinctly disturbing hookup on the midseason return of The Walking Dead and a poignant cameo on the long overdue season premiere of Better Call Saul. All of which saw AMC’s two heaviest hitters back with improved ratings from their last outings.

Now, with a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.5 million viewers, the beginning of the second part of Twd’s 10th season is actually the lowest midseason return the zombie apocalypse series has ever had. Down 40% in the key demo from the previous midseason low of the Grammys battling February 10 2019 Season 9 return, the show based on Robert Kirkman’s now concluded comics was caught in a dangerous cave, literally and figuratively.

Still, even with a 31% slide in total viewers, Twd’s Season 10 return was up 9% over its November 24 2019 fall finale in total audience and 17% among the 18-49. All of which was the best performance the now...

David Lynch
‘Twin Peaks’ Actors, For Your Consideration: 9 Underdog Performers Who Deserve Emmy Nominations
David Lynch
“Twin Peaks: The Return” should be a shoe-in for numerous Emmy nominations given it was one of 2017’s best reviewed pieces of entertainment, but David Lynch’s polarizing style means the show isn’t the lock it should be this year. IndieWire’s Emmy expert Ben Travers has the series listed as a major contender for nominations in races like Outstanding Limited Series, Actor in a Limited Series (Kyle MacLachlan), and Supporting Actress (Laura Dern), but every “Twin Peaks” fan knows three nominations won’t cut it — nor is anything a guarantee.

In this year’s acting races for limited series, Showtime is throwing its weight behind MacLachlan and Dern and launching campaigns for actors such as Naomi Watts and David Lynch, among others. However, “The Return” is filled with so many memorable actors giving some of the best performances of their careers that Emmy voters ought to look below...
