The Umbrella Academy Powers Explained
Image
Through four seasons of Netflix’s superhero series The Umbrella Academy, members of the dysfunctional Hargreeves crime-fighting family have lost and regained their powers multiple times. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of the weirdness Luther, Diego, Allison, and company endure.

Amid all the bickering, time-traveling and universe-hopping, it can be easy to forget that The Umbrella Academy even had superpowers in the first place! Thankfully early seasons of the show and the comic source material from Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá provide a helpful reminder of what the Hargreeves are capable of.

What follows is a breakdown of every member of The Umbrella Academy’s (and Lila’s) power. The availability of those powers vary from season-to-season and sometimes they unlock a new dimension of said powers, but the fundamentals remain the same throughout.

Number One – Luther

Per comic book lore, Reginald Hargreeves numbered his “children...

Umbrella Academy: How Diego's Powers Work
Image
Diego Hargreeves' power is a unique telekinetic ability that allows him to curve the trajectory of objects, including knives and bullets. Diego's powers have become more clear-cut since The Umbrella Academy season 2. While Diego's abilities are useful, he still ranks below Klaus and Viktor in terms of power.

Amid The Umbrella Academy season 4's debut, viewers are wondering more about what, exactly, Diego Hargreeves' (David Castaeda) powers are and how the character's abilities stack up. Created by Gerard Way, The Umbrella Academy follows the Hargreeves, seven adopted siblings who were not only all born on the same day but gifted (or cursed) with superhuman abilities. Some characters boast pretty straight-forward powers: Luther (Tom Hopper) has super-strength; Five (Aidan Gallagher) can jump through time and space; and Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) can control minds and bend realities. However, other powers, like Diego's, are more nebulous.

After the Hargreeves' first outing, Klaus (Robert Sheehan...

The Umbrella Academy: The Hargreeves Gear Up For Their Greatest Battle In Action Packed Final Season Trailer
Image
Netflix has released the first official teaser trailer for the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy, offering a fresh new look at what's to come for The Hargreeves siblings this August when the acclaimed series returns for its final batch of six episodes.

As per the season synopsis, "The Hargreeves siblings have scattered after the climactic showdown at the Hotel Oblivion led to a complete reset of their timeline. Stripped of their powers, each is left to fend for themselves and find a new normal — with wildly varying degrees of success.

Yet the trappings of their uncanny new world prove too hard to ignore for very long. Their father Reginald, alive and well, has stepped out of the shadows and into the public eye, overseeing a powerful and nefarious business empire. A mysterious association known as The Keepers holds clandestine meetings believing the reality they’re living in...

Breaking Baz: ‘Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken’ Is A Superhero, A Princess & A First For DreamWorks Animation – “The Story Really Is Hers”
Image
Exclusive: Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken has a lot going for her.

For starters, says the film’s director Kirk DeMicco, “she’s a princess, a superhero” and the first female titular character for a DreamWorks Animation movie.

Of course, there have been female lead characters in DreamWorks animated pictures, “but this is the first time where we said the story really is hers,” adds co-director Faryn Pearl (Trolls World Tour). “We changed the title from The Gillmans to Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken because it felt that we really wanted to celebrate that it’s her story, it’s her journey. And she’s our superhero, really.”

Alfred Tennyson wrote a sonnet called “The Kraken” — “far beneath the abysmal sea,” it sleepeth — and the mythical sea creature has made terrifying guest appearances in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, the animated movie Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation...

Sam Worthington in Clash of the Titans (2010)
Clash of the Titans (1981) Revisited: Does the Ray Harryhausen classic hold up?
Sam Worthington in Clash of the Titans (2010)
1981’s Clash of the Titans signals the end of an era. In the fifties, sixties and even part of the seventies, stop-motion maestro Ray Harryhausen was the guy you went to if you wanted to do a fantasy epic. He was easily one of the people responsible for truly bringing magic into the movies, but the game started to change in the seventies, especially once Star Wars was released. By the time other fantasy epics like Conan the Barbarian were being planned, Harryhausen was at work on what would be his most ambitious movie to date, Clash of the Titans.

Telling the myth of Perseus, Harryhausen would face some of the most significant logistical challenges of his career, as he’d have to use his effects to portray Medusa,...
