Suranne Jones in Gentleman Jack (2019)
‘Gentleman Jack’ Season 2 Gets a First Teaser as HBO Sets April Return (Video)
Suranne Jones in Gentleman Jack (2019)
Sally Wainwright’s “Gentleman Jack” is almost back for Season 2 on HBO.

The Suranne Jones-starring show about real-life historical figure Anne Lister — who lived in Yorkshire in the 1800s, and who was known not only for defying societal stereotypes about women and business, style of dress, and all manner of things, and who kept a coded diary of her romances with women — returns next month, HBO confirmed Thursday. The network also dropped a brand new teaser.

In the video clip, someone calls Anne “gentleman Jack” to her back, a nickname she got for her style of dress, prompting a shocked face from Jones.

It also hints at the drama ahead across its eight episode second season as Anne and her wife, the wealthy Ann Walker (they said vows together at home), as they try to carry out their relationship in private, but with society trying to invade their business.

‘Gentleman Jack’ Season 2: See First Look Images From BBC/HBO Period Drama
Image
“Gentleman Jack,” the Sally Wainwright period drama starring Suranne Jones, has released the first images from upcoming season 2.

Set in 1834 in Yorkshire, the show sees Jones star as Anne Lister, a convention-busting Victorian woman who embarks on a lesbian relationship with Ann Walker.

In Season 2, the women, now married, set up home with the intention of becoming a local power couple.

“Anne Lister’s entrepreneurial spirit frightens the locals as much as her unconventional love life and, with Halifax on the brink of revolution, her refusal to keep a low profile becomes provocative and dangerous,” reads the logline.

As well as Jones and Rundle, returning for season 2 are Gemma Whelan as Marian Lister, Lydia Leonard as Mariana Lawton, Gemma Jones as Aunt Anne Lister, and Timothy West as Jeremy Lister.

Also making an appearance will be Jodhi May, Katherine Kelly, Derek Riddell, Stephanie Cole, Peter Davison, Amelia Bullmore, Vincent Franklin,...

‘Gentleman Jack’ Begins Season 2 Production Under Covid-19 Guidelines
Image
“Gentleman Jack” will be back on our screens in the not too distant future.

The BBC and HBO historical drama has officially begun production on season 2 in the U.K. under local Covid-19 guidelines. Suranne Jones is set to reprise her role as Anne Lister, with Sophie Rundle returning as her new wife Ann Walker.

News of the show’s return to set comes over a year-and-a-half after it was renewed for a second outing. Season 2 will once again use the real diaries of Anne Lister as a main source.

It will be set in Yorkshire in the year 1834, and follow Anne and Ann as they set up home together at Shibden Hall as wife and wife, determined to combine their estates and become a power couple. Anne Lister’s entrepreneurial spirit frightens the locals as much as her unconventional love life and, with Halifax on the brink of revolution,...

Chely Wright Previews New ‘Revival’ Ep With Joyous ‘Say the Word’
Chely Wright
Since her brilliant 2010 LP Lifted Off the Ground, Chely Wright’s musical output has been both startlingly confessional and increasingly eclectic. That LP, which coincided with Wright’s coming-out and her Like Me memoir, forever altered the Acm Award-winning country singer’s career trajectory but it allowed her the freedom to heal from years of concealing her truth.

Although shaded in melancholy, the Kansas native’s most recent release, the 2018 holiday Ep Santa Will Find You, was as much a love letter to her younger self as it was to...
