Amazon has renewed The Outlaws ahead of its U.S. series premiere in 2022.

The comedy-thriller from Stephen Merchant and Elgin James—a co-production between the Amazon Studios and BBC One—has already aired in its entirety in the UK. Season 2 is set to air in multiple territories following its freshman turn in the U.S.

The Outlaws follows seven strangers from different walks of life who are forced together to complete a Community Payback sentence in Bristol, England.

Stars include Merchant, Christopher Walken, Rhianne Barreto, Gamba Cole, Darren Boyd, Clare Perkins, Eleanor Tomlinson, Jessica Gunning, Charles Babalola, Nina Wadia, Tom Hanson, and Aiyana Goodfellow. All are set to return for Season 2.

Christopher Walken series “The Outlaws” has been renewed for a second season. Walken will also return as Frank Sheldon.

Created by Stephen Merchant (“The Office”) and Elgin James (“Mayans M.C.”) the comedy thriller follows seven convicts completing community service in Bristol, U.K.

The second season, which has already wrapped and is due to air next year, follows on directly from season 1. Both seasons were filmed back to back. The show is a BBC One/Amazon Studios co-production.

Taking the bare bones of the concept that saw 21 Jump Street become a hugely popular teen-orientated procedural when it first aired between 1987 and 1991 and reinventing it as the basis for two hilarious, whip-smart and self-aware comedies was an inspired move by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The two movies starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum comfortably rank among the finest studio comedies of the last decade, raking in over half a billion dollars at the box office in the process.

After the fantastically inventive end credits of 22 Jump Street were made official canon, it initially felt as though we wouldn’t have to wait too long to see the inevitably threequel. Filming of Comcast-owned Sky’s comedy show “Brassic” has been temporarily halted after a crew member exhibited coronavirus symptoms, a Sky spokesperson has confirmed to Variety.

“Throughout this time, the safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority,” said the Sky spokesperson. “The ‘Brassic’ production has paused with cast and crew now self-isolating. We will return to production as soon as it is safe to do so.” The cast and crew is expected to quarantine for at least two weeks.

Produced by Calamity Films, “Brassic” is a comedy drama series for Sky One and ITV Global co-created by Danny Brocklehurst and Joseph Gilgun and written by Brocklehurst and Alex Ganley. It stars Gilgun, Michelle Keegan, Damien Molony, Aaron Heffernan, Parth Thakerar, Ryan Sampson, Tom Hanson, Ruth Sheen and Dominic West.

The first season, which aired in 2019, was one of Sky One’s highest-rated comedies of the last decade.

There’s an episode of 21 Jump Street where the cops go undercover at a performing arts high school. Peter DeLuise’s Doug Penhall has to perform a scene in acting class, and opts to do something from an episode of the classic Fifties sitcom The Honeymooners rather than from a play. He and Johnny Depp’s Tom Hanson do pretty good impressions of Jackie Gleason and Art Carney, but the teacher’s not impressed. He tells Penhall to forget about the TV show and just play the reality of the scene.

The murky crimes of sordid characters come to the fore in the wide-open Nevada spaces… producer Hal Wallis’ Technicolor noir concentrates on the possessive and perverse competition for Lizabeth Scott’s luscious blonde — the mother that wants to corral her, the gangster who thinks she’s an escape and the local hunk who wears a badge. The global TV drama market is booming with international networks and worldwide Svod platforms moving into original, local scripted production in an unparalleled way. Foreign dramas and comedies are increasingly starting to play in the U.S., on a variety of cable networks and digital platforms, in addition to broadcasters and studios scouring the globe to find the most interesting ideas to translate to North American audiences.

This year’s development season has already seen ABC working up a legal drama with Daniel Dae Kim based on Korean format My Lawyer, Mr Jo., and romantic drama Until The Wedding, based on the eponymous Israeli series, while Fox handed a script commitment to British comedy Sunny D.

The Svod services are also getting involved; Amazon is piloting a Las Vegas-set remake of DJ mockumentary People Just Do Nothing and Apple is finalizing a deal for a Richard Gere-fronted drama based on Israeli drama Nevelot.

This Is England star Joe Gilgun, Ripper Street’s Damien Molony and Our Girl’s Michelle Keegan are to front a new working class comedy for Sky produced by Calamity Films, the company behind Renée Zellweger’s forthcoming Judy Garland biopic.

Brassic has been co-created by Gilgun and Danny Brocklehurst, the writer behind Netflix’s Michael C Hall-fronted thriller Safe.

It stars Gilgun as Vinnie, a man from the north of England with bipolar disorder and his best mate Dylan, played by Molony, whose girlfriend Erin, played by Keegan decides to leave town. Dylan is faced with the impossible decision between a fresh start with the love of his life or staying behind with his inseparable gang of mates that he can’t live without.

Tom Hanson, Aaron Hefferman, Ryan Sampson, Parth Thakerar also star in the Shameless-esque comedy, which starts production in September.
