True Johnny Depp Fans Should Watch His 5-Season Show Where He Ruled TV For 80 Episodes, Became an Acting Legend
Image
Johnny Depp is currently one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. While the entire Amber Heard trial did hamper his career in a number of ways, he still holds a great fan following. With box office hits like the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series and Edward Scissorhands, he has truly established himself as a bankable actor.

But long before he played the eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow, he was a teen heartthrob who ruled television in the late ’80s.

Burt Lancaster's 61-Year-Old WWII Movie Is Based on a Real-Life Heist
Image
Quick LinksBurt Lancaster Was a Hollywood LegendThe Train Was a Severely Underrated MovieThe Train Was Based on a Real HeistThe Train Remains a Critical Success

World War II movies have been a prominent fixture in Hollywood since the war began. Even as soldiers were charging onto the battlefield to face off against Imperial Japanese soldiers and the Nazis, the industry was producing more theatrical releases. Movies like The Great Dictator (1940), Minesweeper (1943), and Hitler – Beast of Berlin (1939) forced audiences to reckon with the reality of war. Even when World War II ended violently, Hollywood never lost its fascination with the era. It continued to produce more releases with every passing year.

Throughout the 20th century, World War II movies were an essential staple. Every decade had a massive World War II movie released, culminating in Saving Private Ryan (1998) and Schindler's List (1993). Before color films conquered the big screen, however, black-and-white epics...

Tribute to Johnny Depp - The Master of Misfits Characters, Fictional and Nonfictional
Image
Humble Beginnings and Stardom Johnny Depp has always been a misfit even before he was an actor. When he was young, he didn’t plan to graduate high school, and ended up dropping out to become a musician. He was a guitarist for a band called the Kids. He and his band moved to Los Angeles. During his time in the band, he became a struggling musician, but ended up finding steady work as an actor since he was introduced to Nicolas Cage by his then-wife Lori Anne Allison. Nicholas helped Johnny to audition for Wes Craven for the low-budget horror film ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street.’ The film achieved international success since it scared its audiences and featured a memorable kill by showing a young Johnny Depp being brutally killed by the boogeyman, Freddy Krueger (played by Robert Englund). 1980s The following year, Johnny Depp starred in ‘Private Resort...

The Zodiac Killer (1971) Was Made to Catch the Real Life Killer
Image
There are many factors that push someone to be a filmmaker. For some, it is that creative passion that they have to tell stories they believe only they can; for others, it is a means to make some cash and a name for themselves. However, sometimes movies are made for bizarre reasons, and in the 1970s, one director took a unique approach to making and promoting his low-budget horror film.

Horror certainly never shies away from controversial subjects, but one man tackled one of the most sensational true crime cases of the '60s in The Zodiac Killer and used it as a means to try to lure in the infamous true-crime figure. Was it a marketing ploy or was it genuine? That is difficult to say, but we will explore the sensational story behind Tom Hanson's The Zodiac Killer, including how he tried to trap the murdered at the screenings of his movie.

Johnny Depp's First Movie Is Also His Highest-Rated Project On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Watching the films of Johnny Depp is a fraught exercise in 2024. Depp has been frequently in trouble with the law throughout his career, having gotten into fights, having threatened paparazzi, and having once trashed a hotel room. A lot of Depp's early temper problems were likely connected to his admitted alcoholism, something he wrestled with for a long span of his life. Depp's highly publicized separation from his wife Amber Heard also caused a media firestorm, leading to mutual accusations of physical abuse, more drug use, and a lot of bad blood. Both Depp and Heard were found guilty of defamation.

Many have come to refuse Depp's movies altogether, hating the abuse he visited upon Heard. Ever since 2018, Depp has appeared in the public eye less and less frequently. His film "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" wasn't a big hit, and his character was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen in the follow-up.

Johnny Depp's Most-Reprised Role Is A Character You'll Never Expect
Image
Johnny Depp's top-played character is surprisingly not Jack Sparrow, but Johnny Puff in Arctic Dogs spinoffs. Officer Tom Hanson from the 21 Jump Street TV show is the second-most reprised character by Johnny Depp. Despite his success, Depp rarely returns to past roles, with Jack Sparrow being his third most-played character.

The character of Captain Jack Sparrow immediately comes to mind for many fans of Johnny Depp's work, but there's actually a character he's played far more than the Pirates of the Caribbean icon. A dedicated actor, Depp often vanishes into his roles, committing himself completely to each performance. While Jack Sparrow might be Depp's most famous character, the amount of times he's reprised the role pales in comparison when compared with his most-played role.

Granted, Depp has appeared as Jack in every Pirates of the Caribbean movie to date - a streak that will likely be broken whenever...

“He wanted to change all that”: Johnny Depp’s Most Cynical Role Before Pirates of the Caribbean Helped Him Get Rid of the Worst Aspect of His Fame
Image
Since breaking out in Hollywood in the ’80s, Johnny Depp has cemented himself as one of the most iconic character actors in the business, who isn’t shy of taking eccentric roles. But before earning the status of a revered character actor, who went on to earn three Oscar nods for Best Actor, Depp’s initial shot to fame was a result of his stint in 21 Jumps Street.

But while the show did prove to be his first major break, Depp wasn’t too fond of the fame that came with it, and it wasn’t until his first Tim Burton collaboration that things started to shift for the better.

Johnny Depp's Hilarious 21 Jump Street Cameo Came With One Stipulation
Image
Before "21 Jump Street" became one of the defining buddy cop comedies of the 21st century, it was a hit crime procedural TV series that premiered on Fox in 1987. However, the 2012 big screen adaptation from directors Phil Lord & Chris Miller delivered something much different in tone than the original series, which took a rather serious approach to following a squad of youthful-looking undercover police officers sent undercover to stop crimes in schools, gangs, and other venues frequented by teens.

Despite the much more comedic and even meta approach to the premise of "21 Jump Street," Lord & Miller knew they needed at least one element of the original series in their movie: Johnny Depp, who cut his teeth playing Officer Tom Hanson. But ensuring Depp's involvement required bringing in another piece of "21 Jump Street" history.

The Blu-ray release of "21 Jump Street" has a featurette (which is also available on...

Depp makes a surprise cameo in the 2012 action comedy based on his original television series, starring as a DEA agent who was once a part of the 21 Jump Street division. Pirates Of The Caribbean Director Gore Verbinski Never Wanted To Make A 'Jack Sparrow Movie'
Image
Johnny Depp broke into Hollywood by appearing in popular films like "Platoon," and "Nightmare on Elm Street," but he became a star in 1987 when he portrayed Officer Tom Hanson in "21 Jump Street." Uncomfortable with the idea of being a teen magazine pinup, Depp spent the next few decades accepting roles in films that were outside of the mainstream, like, "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," "The Ninth Gate," and "The Astronaut's Wife." Depp stepped back into the spotlight in 2003 when he accepted the role of Jack Sparrow in Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."

In the beginning, Disney executives were skeptical about Depp's staggering, slurring portrayal of Sparrow, but audiences fell in love with the character. Eventually, his audacious and unpredictable behavior became the main focus of the films, but that is not what the original director ever intended. In a 2012 interview with IGN, director Gore Verbinski...

Johnny Depp Reportedly Trying To Get A Role In New 21 Jump Street Movie
Taking the bare bones of the concept that saw 21 Jump Street become a hugely popular teen-orientated procedural when it first aired between 1987 and 1991 and reinventing it as the basis for two hilarious, whip-smart and self-aware comedies was an inspired move by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The two movies starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum comfortably rank among the finest studio comedies of the last decade, raking in over half a billion dollars at the box office in the process.

After the fantastically inventive end credits of 22 Jump Street were made official canon, it initially felt as though we wouldn’t have to wait too long to see the inevitably threequel. There was even the tantalizing prospect of a Men in Black crossover in MiB 23, which had the potential to be something truly spectacular, but instead the nascent franchise found itself placed on the back burner.

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street (2012)
What ABC’s ‘All in the Family’ and ‘Jeffersons’ Reboots Got Right — And Wrong
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street (2012)
There’s an episode of 21 Jump Street where the cops go undercover at a performing arts high school. Peter DeLuise’s Doug Penhall has to perform a scene in acting class, and opts to do something from an episode of the classic Fifties sitcom The Honeymooners rather than from a play. He and Johnny Depp’s Tom Hanson do pretty good impressions of Jackie Gleason and Art Carney, but the teacher’s not impressed. He tells Penhall to forget about the TV show and just play the reality of the scene.
