Season 2 of NCIS: Sydney introduced a potential romance between Sergeant Jim "Jd" Dempsey (Todd Lasance) and NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey (Olivia Swann). And while the two never confessed to each other or their colleagues, their actions spoke louder than words, especially during Season 2's two-part finale. Now, with Season 3 being greenlit, showrunner Morgan O'Neill teases what's to come for this possible workplace romance.
In an interview with TVLine, O'Neill shared how the events of the season 2 finale could affect the direction of Jd and Mackey's relationship moving forward. According to him, what happened between Mackey and Etienne could put a speed bump in the way, hinting that this NCIS Agent may find it harder to trust others following their altercation in Darwin. However, whatever happens in Season 3 may address this potential tension.

Amid Season 2 of the NCIS spin-off based in the land down under, the series was renewed for another season, which has yet to get a premiere date.NCIS: Sydney returned with its sophomore season on Friday, February 7, and a few weeks later, it received a Season 3 order on February 21. Sadly, not much has been unveiled about the upcoming installment, but something new has recently come up regarding where in Australia the next season of the procedural will be filmed.
TVLine previously revealed that the NCIS offshootwould include a Sydney Opera House cameo in Season 3; an exciting one given that the building, located on the foreshore of Sydney Harbour, is widely regarded as one of the world's most famous and distinctive. Showrunner Morgan O’Neill has now teased another “very Australian” destination for NCIS: Sydney Season 3, saying:

Fortunately, that won’t be the final chapter of the NCIS spin-off as it was renewed for another run earlier in February. With the latest season already concluded and Season 3 in development, creator and showrunner Morgan O’Neill recentlysat down with TVLine, gearing viewers up for what's ahead in the “bigger” installment that features a surprising time jump.
The NCIS: Sydney Season 2 finale aired on Friday, April 25, finally revealing who’s been behind everything all this time, including the unsuspicious person responsible for putting that pacemaker Rankin (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) didn’t need in him. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the NCIS: Sydney Season 2 finale “Sting in the Tail.”] It all comes down to money. The NCIS: Sydney Season 2 finale, which aired on Friday, April 25, revealed who’s been behind everything all this time, including putting that pacemaker Rankin (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) didn’t need in him, and it was someone close to Mackey (Olivia Swann). Mackey went way back with Etienne (John Fabry), who was seemingly helping the team with their latest case, only for Jd (Todd Lasance) to realize he’s the one who was going to make off with $1.7 billion; he made money building up international aid contracts following chaos in certain regions. Mackey, of course, took him down before he could blow up a plane. But what’s sure to have people talking over hiatus is whoever that woman is who was waiting for Blue (Mavournee Hazel) when she got home. She’d been looking for her.

Only two episodes remain until Season 2 of NCIS: Sydney ends, and this time, the Afp and NCIS team will have to face their biggest adversary yet — Australian wildlife. This episode is the first half of the show's Season finale, and unlike the previous episodes, this team is no longer in Sydney.
In the next episode, the NCIS/Afp team will fly to Darwin to investigate the death of a U.S. soldier, which occurred during a joint training exercise between U.S. and Australian troops. Unfortunately, due to the heat and weather, the military and our agents will succumb to "Mango Madness," a colloquial term Australians use to describe erratic behavior during hot and tropical weather. In addition, since the investigation is no longer in the big city, they also have to face the wildlife, like crocodiles.

The NCIS: Sydney season premiere has been postponed by CBS.
The bad news was revealed that a new episode will not arrive on Friday, January 31.
NCIS: Sydney Season 1 episodes have been airing this winter, giving fans a chance to re-watch some of the content from last year.
It also helped serve as a buildup to the second season premiering on January 31.
Unfortunately, CBS has plans for a different show to fill that 8/7c timeslot.
No official announcement has been made, but it could be related to the California wildfires.
CBS previously pulled Fire Country from primetime as the fires raged out of control. It was done out of respect for the people of California. As Fire Country fans already know, the show is about people working for Cal Fire.
Now, an unannounced special will air at 8/7c on Friday, January 31. Stay tuned to learn what CBS does with that timeslot.

NCIS: Sydney’s start date has finally been revealed. CBS released its midseason television schedule, with a new season of the NCIS spin-off entrenched.
It’s been a long wait for the NCIS spin-off to return, but fans will soon enjoy some new content.
The first season of NCIS: Sydney was intended as a streaming series, but gaps in the CBS schedule allowed the network to air it in primetime.
Those scheduling gaps were due to the Writers Strike, and CBS viewers saw what was going on with the Down Under spin-off.
NCIS: Sydney Season 1 featured eight episodes. For viewers who missed them the first time, those installments are streaming on Paramount+.
It could also be a fun show during the upcoming winter hiatus for NCIS and NCIS: Origins.
When is the NCIS: Sydney Season 2 start date?

The NCIS franchise is one of the most storied franchises in modern television history. The Jag spinoff follows a ragtag and eclectic team of agents of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service as they investigate crimes relating to Navy and Marine military personnel. NCIS became a smash hit and would go on to spawn a thriving franchise with multiple series falling under the NCIS umbrella. The NCIS franchise includes interconnected series that focus on other NCIS teams and frequently crossover and reference each other.
One of the biggest strengths of the NCIS franchise is the characters themselves. Across the franchise, each NCIS series has strong characters with diverse personalities. The way characters are approached in the NCIS franchise is a large part of the franchise's longevity and overall success. By flushing the franchise with rich characters with great quirks and backstories, each series in the NCIS franchise can flesh out its unique story and tone.

The NCIS franchise started over three decades ago, finding great success as the original and with several spinoffs.
When the writer's strikes happened in 2023, fans were left without an NCIS fix for the first time in over twenty years.
Meanwhile, a new spinoff, NCIS: Sydney, was happening in another part of the world for the first out-of-country NCIS spinoff in history.
The upcoming NCIS spinoff featuring Tony Dinozzo and Ziva David may also take place out of the US.
Originally, there were no plans for NCIS: Syndey to air on US television. But when the strikes shut down television production, CBS picked it up for the fall lineup.
Fans rejoiced at the news of an order for a second season of NCIS: Sydney, while we mourned the cancellation announcement for sister show NCIS: Hawai'i.
