Everything was business as usual for Dylan Dreyer on the Monday, July 21, episode of Today. Dreyer kicked off her week on the NBC morning show just three days after announcing she and her husband, Brian Fichera, had called it quits. The meteorologist did not address her split while filling in for Al Roker and Carson Daly on Monday and appeared not to be wearing her wedding ring. Dreyer was one of several Today personalities filling in for many absent cohosts. Weekend Today‘s Laura Jarrett joined Savannah Guthrie at the news desk in place of Craig Melvin on the show’s first two hours and later joined Dreyer and NBC News’ Savannah Sellers on the third hour of Today. (Guthrie and Willie Geist also took over for Jenna Bush Hager on Monday’s Today With Jenna & Friends.) Dreyer has been filling in for Roker since Thursday, July 17. It was...

Today‘s lineup of hosts looked a little different on Wednesday, July 9. Both Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin were absent from the NBC morning show, with Sunday Today‘s Willie Geist and Weekend Today‘s Laura Jarrett stepping in as the main cohosts. The change is not permanent, as Geist noted on-air, Guthrie and Melvin are simply enjoying a day off. It wasn’t explained why they were absent. Guthrie has appeared on the show all week, although she reported live from Texas on Monday while covering the deadly flash floods in the Lone Star State. She shared a snap of a fallen tree from her trip via her Instagram Story on Tuesday, June 8, along with a link to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. While Melvin was present during Monday and Tuesday’s episodes, Carson Daly has been absent from Today all week. Though the reason behind Daly’s absence was not revealed,...

Savannah Guthrie may be getting a head start to the holiday weekend. Craig Melvin announced that his Today coanchor would be absent from the NBC morning show all week, starting on Monday, June 30. “She’s enjoying this week off,” he told viewers, though he didn’t reveal the reason for her break. Taking over Guthrie’s seat at the desk this week will be Weekend Today‘s Laura Jarrett, who most recently filled in for Savannah on the show’s Wednesday, June 25, episode, “Always good to have you,” Melvin told his temporary coanchor on Monday morning. Guthrie teased what she’s getting up to during her week-long hiatus via her Instagram Story on Sunday, June 29, sharing a snap of a T-shirt that read “A Little Bit Dramatic” hanging next to what looked like a beach towel. Courtesy of Savannah Guthrie/Instagram “Tough but fair,” she jokingly captioned the pic, which...

NBC is giving fans of Today the experience of a lifetime. The morning show is set to host its first-ever Fan Fest event later this year. “It’s going to include a series of live events bringing you just a little bit closer to our family,” coanchor Craig Melvin described on Today‘s Wednesday, June 18, episode. “An all-access pass to everything, everything you love about our little show called Today.” Ahead of the celebration, we’re breaking down everything you need to know about the fan-focused event. What is Today‘s Fan Fest? “Here on the show, we’re gonna have an entire week of fan-favorite guests, the stories, the shopping, the music, plus giveaways and much more,” Laura Jarrett explained on Wednesday’s episode of Today. Dylan Dreyer missed the recent Today episode as her co-star, Al Roker, tried to play off an “anticlimactic” moment on television.
Al appeared as one of the NBC show co-hosts alongside Craig Melvin and Laura Jarrett, as Dylan and Sheinelle Jones were absent.
During part of the episode, Al and company looked to introduce a new spring backdrop for Today.
“Happy spring! The new season arrived, and that means it’s time for our annual tradition, where we bring the spring into Studio 1A. Change the big wall!” he said on Thursday’s show.
“Here we go!” Al said as his co-hosts started a countdown for the big moment.
However, Al didn’t realize the spring backdrop was revealed before his big announcement, so everyone already saw it.
He commented, “I think we jumped it,” calling the moment “a little anticlimactic there.”

Willie Geist may have hosted Sunday Today since 2016, but a first for the show has him feeling “shocked” and “overwhelmed.”
He often fills in on Today when one of the show’s big names, like Craig Melvin or Dylan Dreyer, is out.
Willie is also a regular commentator on the MSNBC show Morning Joe and often shows up on Saturday Today next to Laura Jarrett.
But he seems most at home on the Sunday Today set, where he interviewed everyone from Hillary Clinton to Chip and Joanna Gaines.
It is at Sunday Today that, in a first for the veteran interviewer, he commented on the speed at which tickets for a Live show sold out.
Willie has hosted Sunday Today for years but has never performed in front of a live audience until now. It is astounding to learn how many people love him and the show.

Craig Melvin recently took on co-hosting duties on Today following the departure of Hoda Kotb. In a recent episode, Melvin himself was seen without co-host Savannah Guthrie, mere days after he started in his new gig. This left some viewers wondering what happened to Guthrie.

On January 13, 2025, Melvin officially took on co-hosting duties on Today alongside Savannah Guthrie following Hoda Kotb leaving the role. Melvin had previously been announced as Kotb’s replacement back in November.
This past Thursday, less than a week since he started in the role, Melvin replacing Kotb wasn’t the only change seen on the show. Laura Jarrett served as his co-host instead of Savannah Guthrie.

When “Today” starts up Monday morning, NBC executives and producers hope that it will look like any other broadcast of the long-running A.M. show.
Of course, it won’t. Yes, Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin will greet viewers, no doubt, with the top news of the day. Yet while Melvin has been a regular presence on the program, Monday marks his first appearance in the co-anchor role previously held by Hoda Kotb. The expectation is that viewers won’t blink much of an eye.
“People kind of know and expect what we give them every day,” says Melvin, during an interview last week. “We would be silly to tinker with that too much.”
Melvin takes the role while “Today” is enjoying a new bout of momentum. To be sure, traditional audiences for most linear TV programs, including venerable, decades-old morning shows, are in secular decline, but “Today” has shown some interesting vigor.

Are Hoda Kotb and her ex-fiancé, Joel Schiffman, getting back together? Some fans speculate that the former couple rekindled their romance after the Today co-host was seen with a ring on That finger of her left hand. The rumors circulated after Thursday’s (January 2) episode of the Today show, which Kotb hosted alongside Laura Jarrett and Dylan Dreyer. Eagle-eyed viewers noticed that Kotb was fiddling with a ring on her left hand, on the finger usually reserved for a wedding or engagement ring. Taking to Kotb’s Instagram comments after the episode, one fan wrote, “Did anyone else notice the ring on Hoda’s left hand this morning? I was waiting for an announcement. At one point she was fiddling with it, sliding it up and down. I was really hoping her and Joel were back together.” Another replied, “Yes she definitely is wearing a ring! Maybe she will make...

During a recent episode of Today’s 3rd Hour, Al Roker initially appeared to be the only regular face available to host. However, he wouldn’t be alone. In fact, he ended up with two unexpected, if still familiar, co-hosts.
One Co-Host Was In Paris, A Few Others Had Off
Today is currently undergoing a few changes. Co-host Hoda Kotb is set to leave her role on the show after spending 17 years of the program.
Craig Melvin was recently announced as her replacement. However, work recently brought Melvin to Paris to see the re-opening of the famous Notre Dame Cathedral.
Al Roker – YouTube
In addition to Melvin being off in Paris, Roker noted that Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer had off. This made it seem like Al Roker would be the only person left to host the 3rd Hour.
However, he would soon join up with two co-hosts: Peter Alexander and Laura Jarrett.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice: Michael Keaton’s character from the Tim Burton franchise was essentially summoned from across the TV talk-show landscape on Halloween with hosts on NBC’s Today show, the syndicated Live With Kelly and Mark and The Kelly Clarkson Show all dressing up as the ghost with the most.
On Thursday’s Today, Al Roker dressed up as Beetlejuice and Dylan Dreyer dressed as Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz. And on Live With Kelly and Mark later Thursday morning, Kelly Ripa took on Deetz with Mark Consuelos sporting the Beetlejuice ensemble.
Kelly Clarkson also donned a Beetlejuice costume on her eponymous daytime talk show. She kicked off the show with a spooky Kellyoke of “Banana Boat (Day-o).”
While Beetlejuice made a number of apperances on Thursday, Consuelos and Ripa changed costumes multiple times throughout this year’s Only Murders in the Building-inspired “Only Halloween in the Building” Halloween show.

Updated with Potus statement: Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, was found guilty Tuesday of three felony counts related to the purchase of a gun in 2018.
A jury in Wilmington, De, rendered its verdict after three hours of deliberations. The verdict was covered across all major news networks, although news cameras were not allowed in the courtroom. Broadcast networks also broke into programming for special reports.
Biden faces up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $750,000. His sentence is likely to be much less than that given he is a first-time offender.
Biden’s trial was the latest criminal proceeding that has infused the 2024 presidential race. It started just days after a New York state jury convicted former President Donald Trump of 34 felonies. While Trump and his allies lashed out at the verdict as the result of a “rigged” political process, President Biden has been...

John Oliver opened Sunday’s Last Week Tonight by covering some trial that just wrapped up.
“A New York businessman got into some legal trouble,” Oliver said, with great understatement, “which was undeniably fun to watch unfold live.”
From there, HBO’s Last Week Tonight showed a clip of NBC News’ senior legal correspondent Laura Jarrett reading off every “guilty” verdict delivered against Donald Trump last Thursday on 34 counts in his hush money trial.
“She did that for all 34 different counts and it is so satisfying to watch,” Oliver said with more than a little glee. “I’d honestly be surprised if someone hadn’t already uploaded it to Pornhub by now.”
“Anyway,” he continued, “that will be so fun to remember five months from now when we’re all watching that exact anchor count the 270 electoral votes that Trump’s won because nothing matters if we live in a broken world.

During the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver joined the list of Hollywood notables who have reacted to Donald Trump’s guilty verdict in his New York hush money trial.
On Thursday, a jury found the former president guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records after weeks of testimony from a former tabloid publisher, a Hollywood fixer, Trump’s former lawyer and a porn star. It was also a historic day, as Trump also became the first former president to be convicted of felony crimes.
“A New York businessman got into some legal trouble, which was undeniably fun to watch unfold live,” Oliver said at the beginning of the show.
The comedian proceeded to play a clip from NBC News’ live coverage of the verdict reading, where senior legal correspondent Laura Jarrett verbally read “guilty” for each individual count.

Hoda Kotb was spotted out and about with a mystery man and on Wednesday, Laura Jarret got her to open up a bit more about him while working for the Today Show. Fans of the talk show seem keen on the story because they probably still recall her excitement about the engagement ring that she got from Joel Schiffman in 2019. That relationship ended in 2022, and those who love her want to see her with someone else.
Hoda Kotb & Her Mystery Man
When the news arrived about a new man in the talk show host’s life, it came as a surprise to her fans. For two years, she wasn’t dating, as she found some peace of mind without her long-term partner. Naturally, splitting hurts, but she seemed to strongly hint that they were still amicable, as she mentioned how nice people can go their separate ways.

Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and other music stars served as major sources of inspiration behind the Halloween costumes displayed on morning and daytime talk shows this year.
Three shows featured hosts dressing up as Swift, with Today‘s Savannah Guthrie, Live‘s Kelly Ripa and The Talk‘s Amanda Kloots all dressing as the superstar singer-songwriter, with the latter two also passing out friendship bracelets in an ode to Swift’s hit Eras tour.
Live With Kelly and Mark took the Swift inspiration one step further, dubbing their annual Halloween extravaganza The Eras Show as they looked back through different decades of pop culture and of Live‘s own onscreen Halloween celebrations. While Ripa and Consuelos kicked things off with their take on the Barbie movie, they doled out friendship bracelets in an homage to Swift and spoke about the Eras tour inspiration for their show.

When Peter Alexander opens Saturday’s broadcast of “Today,” he will find himself opposite a new host — and a potential sparring partner.

By pairing Jarrett, who was recently named to helm the justice beat at NBC News, with Alexander, its chief White House correspondent, NBC is no doubt keeping its corporate eye on a critical moment. The run-up to the 2024 election will demand familiarity not only with Washington,...

Christine Romans is getting ready for a new start at NBC News after logging early morning hours at CNN’s “Early Start” for the past several years.
