Johnny Wu is a bilingual Taiwanese-Canadian interdisciplinary artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Having graduated from Simon Fraser University with a double major in Theatre Performance and Criminology, his work seeks to investigate humanity through story-telling with social consciousness. Unvarnished, audacious, and intimate, Johnny's practice references East Asian-inspired aesthetics, Taiwanese nostalgia and queer culture.
Johnny is known for his role as Xing Xing or Jinderella88 in "Joy Ride" directed by Adele Lim and written by Teresa Hsiao and Cherry Chevapravatdumrong. The film stars Ashley Park, Stephanie Hsu, Sherry Cola and Sabrina Wu. Johnny can also be seen in CW's "Legends of Tomorrow" and "Kung Fu".
As an active member of the Canadian indie film scene, Johnny was part of several award-winning shorts such as "Bunny Man", which placed first in the 10-minute short category at the Mighty Asian Filmmaking Marathon hosted by Vancouver Asian Film Festival. The short film went on to screen at 13 different festivals.
