The Philharmonia announces the second half of its 2023/24 Season at Southbank Centre, with Santtu-Matias Rouvali as Principal Conductor of the Orchestra.

To open the second half of the season, Santtu-Matias Rouvali will conduct singer Julia Bullock, one of the Philharmonia’s Featured Artists, taking on life’s big topics – love, death, nature, heaven – in a Romantic pairing of Berlioz and Mahler (1 Feb).

In front of Congress, TikTok’s CEO was a pariah. In China, he’s a hero.

On March 23, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew endured five hours of intense grilling from the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Though the app’s leader attempted to reassure Congressional leaders that Project Texas can secure the data of American TikTok users, he struggled to get his point across.

Despite Chew’s trip to Washington, Congress is still attempting to pass the Restrict Act, which would categorize TikTok as a national security threat and ban it in the United States. But the TikTok CEO’s marathon hearing did accomplish at least one thing: It made him a hero in the home country of TikTok’s parent company ByteDance. On the Chinese social media platform Weibo, users described Chew as a “lonely hero” and “courageous gentleman” who stood up to American aggression.

Refresh for latest… The 50th anniversary Annie Awards for animation are being handed tonight at UCLA’s Royce Hall, and Deadline is updating the winners live as they are announced in all 32 categories. See the list below.

Two very different stop-motion films lead the way in nominations from Asifa-Hollywood: Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio from Netflix and A24’s Marcel the Shell with Shoes On drew up nine and eight noms, respectively, with Disney/Pixar’s Turning Red next with seven.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio took the first film award of the night, for Best Production Design, Feature.

Pinocchio and Turning Red will face off in the marquee Best Feature race against DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and Netflix;s The Sea Beast and Wendell & Wild. Macel the Shell is vying for Best Indie Feature against Charlotte; Inu-Oh; Little Nicholas, Happy As Can Be; and My Father’s Dragon.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, a recent winner of the Best Animated Film at the Critics Choice Awards, tops the list of the 50th Annual Annie Awards nominees. Del Toro’s gorgeous stop-motion fairy tale earned nine nominations, including a nomination in the Best Animated Feature category along with Turning Red, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, The Sea Beast, and Wendell & Wild.
