After a year away, the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival returned to Montreal with a star-studded line-up of the biggest names in laughter. On July 24, Variety presented their annual 10 Comics To Watch at a cocktail party sponsored by Cohen Gardner Law, who has been partnering with Variety on the honor for the past 20 years. All 10 comics were in attendance, including recent Emmy nominee Robby Hoffman (“Hacks”), “Overcompensating” breakout Mary Beth Barone and social media sensation Dyon ‘Mojo’ Brooks. They were joined by fellow honorees Joe Dombrowski, Nate Jackson, Morgan Jay, Gianmarco Soresi, Jiaoying Summers, Steph Tolev and Tacarra Williams.

Louis C.K., Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, and Pete Holmes are among the comedic talents set to appear at this year’s New York Comedy Festival, taking place from Friday, November 7 to Sunday, November 16.

Colbert and Sedaris will join Paul Dinello on November 8 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the cancellation of Strangers with Candy, the sitcom for Comedy Central co-created by Colbert, Dinello, Sedaris, and Mitch Rouse. Laughs are loading for this year’s New York Comedy Festival.

The festival will feature more than 200 comedians at 100 shows at venues across the five boroughs for 10 days from Nov. 7-16. This year’s headliners include such acts as the Basement Yard, Hannah Berner, Michael Blackson, Louis C.K., Margaret Cho, Alex Edelman, Chris Fleming, Pete Holmes, Morgan Jay, Ismo, Ryan Long, Nurse John, Yohay Sponder, Trevor Wallace and more.

Also on the lineup is a special reunion for Strangers with Candy creators and stars Stephen Colbert, Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris. The event, to be held at Town Hall on Nov. 8, is billed as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the show’s cancellation. The 11th Bentonville Film Festival is underway in Arkansas, the annual event bringing together Oscar caliber talent and films, with an emphasis on inclusion in an industry not known for providing equal access to opportunity.

This year’s festival, running June 16-22, boasts nine world premieres, 28 feature films in competition, and a newly launched Homegrown Competition “highlighting powerful stories from filmmakers based in or filming in Arkansas” as part of a robust lineup of programming.

Deadline attended the opening night kickoff at Skylight Cinema, highlighted by a screening of East of Wall, the Sony Pictures Classics drama that presents “an authentic portrait of female resilience in the ‘New West’ inspired and played by the women and girls who live it.”

On the red carpet we spoke with Bff chair Geena Davis, asking about her excitement level as the festival began.

Exclusive: Comedian Morgan Jay’s sophomore special, Morgan Jay: Live at The Village, is set to stream on Hulu this Friday, April 11, the same day that Jay has two sold-out headline performances at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. The special comes to Hulu in a licensing deal, we’re told, following its original premiere on YouTube in 2023.

Filmed at L.A.’s Village Studios, Jay’s new hour sees him offer his perspective on love, sex, and relationships through crowd work and original music. It comes on the heels of I Hope My Ex Doesn’t See This, which the comic self-released on YouTube in 2020.

J Pinder's new film, Cotton Candy Bubble Gum, is set to premiere tomorrow at SXSW, and Collider is thrilled to bring you an exclusive poster from the film. Rather than turning into a half-hour built around a celebrity cameo, the episode makes fun of the idea of celebrity -- also focusing on the quirks and schemes of the hospital staff instead.

"Some Famous Internet Guy" refers to Colby Twill, a musician hugely popular with kids and Dr. Bruce Schweitz, who arrives at the hospital to perform for the pediatric ward. However, when Dr. Ron Leonard notices something concerning about Colby, that starts another sequence of odd events. In the end, though, the episode is actually very heartwarming.

The standup comedy format reps a shift for the CBS Showcase from previous years. The success of their careers makes New Faces the industry’s biggest coming-out party for rising stand-up talent serious business.
