At today’s “Iyanu’s Journey: The Next Chapter” panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Cartoon Network, HBO Max, and Lion Forge Entertainment revealed the next evolution of their breakout hit Iyanu.

Building on the show’s first-season success across Cartoon Network and HBO Max, the partners announced that Iyanu: The Age of Wonders — the first in a pair of upcoming animated feature films — will premiere on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. Et/Pt.

At San Diego Comic-Con, fans also got a first look at the official teaser trailer, poster, and never-before-seen stills from Season 2, which is currently in production.

The Cartoon Network animated series Iyanu will debut on Sunday, April 6 on Max, following the April 5 debut on Cartoon Network. The official trailer giving audiences a new glimpse into the captivating story based on Nigerian culture and mythology has also been released.

Adapted from Roye Okupe’s graphic novel series Iyanu: Child of Wonder, published by YouNeek Studios and Dark Horse Comics (the powerhouse behind The Umbrella Academy and Hellboy), the series is helmed by Roye Okupe himself, who was born and raised in Nigeria and now serves as creator, executive producer and showrunner.

The series is produced by Lion Forge Entertainment, a leading Black-owned animation studio in North America. Drawing on Nigerian culture, music, and mythology, the animated series follows Iyanu, a brave young orphan living in the magical kingdom of Yorubaland.

Exclusive: L.A.-based Lion Forge Entertainment has closed a UK streaming deal with Itvx for its fantasy superhero animated series Iyanu, based on Nigerian mythology.

The streaming platform for the U.K.’s free-to-air broadcaster ITV has acquired exclusive VOD (including AVOD) rights for the UK and non-exclusive rights for Ireland.

“We are very pleased to be bringing the wonderful Iyanu to the UK. Our Itvx viewers are in for a treat,” said Darren Nartey, Senior Acquisitions Manager: Films & Kids at ITV.

Iyanu is set to launch this spring with 26, twenty-two-minute episodes. U.S. viewers will be able to watch the series on Cartoon Network and Max, while Lion Forge has previously secured a deal with Showmax to stream the show in 44 countries throughout Africa. Prime Video has released first-look images for “Christmas in Lagos,” a holiday romantic comedy from “Gangs of Lagos” multi-hyphenate Jade Osiberu that features chart-topping Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr and a loaded cast of Nigerian pop and screen stars.

The film marks the first and only original to come out of Osiberu’s groundbreaking, multi-title pact with the streaming giant, which announced earlier this year that it was pressing pause on its original productions in Africa. Osiberu confirmed to Variety that she has formally exited that deal.

Skynet is making its return: the trailer for the Netflix animated series “Terminator Zero” has been revealed.

The series follows the aftermath of Skynet, an AI being, gaining consciousness and waging its war against humanity in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.” It becomes self-aware on Aug. 29, 1997, after which a war rages on for decades.

“Terminator Zero” is set in 2022 and follows a soldier, Eiko (Rosario Dawson), who is sent back in time to change the fate of humanity. She journeys back to 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee (André Holland), who is working on another AI system, Kokono (Sonoya Mizuno) to compete with Skynet. Although it exists in the Terminator universe, it centers entirely around new characters.

The trailer sees Lee attempting to save the Earth from Skynet, while being hunted down by an assassin from the future.

Lion Forge Entertainment’s “Iyanu,” an animated series based on Roye Okupe’s Nigerian superhero graphic novel, is set to debut in 2025.

The show will be available on Showmax across 44 African countries, while U.S. audiences can access it on Cartoon Network and Max.

Set in the magical kingdom of Yorubaland, “Iyanu” follows an orphan who must uncover the mystery behind her newfound powers to save her people from an ancient curse. The series is adapted from Okupe’s graphic novel series “Iyanu: Child of Wonder,” published by Dark Horse Comics.

Serah Johnson leads the all-African voice cast as Iyanu, joined by Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Stella Damasus, Blossom Chukwujekwu and Shaffy Bello. The writers’ room was led by story editor Brandon Easton (“Transformers: War for Cybertron”), with contributions from Emmy winner Kerri Grant (“Doc McStuffins”).

As a Lion Forge Entertainment production, Iyanu is an adaptation of Dark Horse Comics/YouNeek Studios’ graphic novel series Iyanu: Child of Wonder by award-winning Nigerian creator and producer Roye Okupe.

Iyanu’s voice cast includes Serah Johnson (Moji) Okey Jude, Samuel Kugbiyi, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Stella Damasus (Gone), and Shaffy Bello.

Iyanu is a superhero tale set in the magical kingdom of Yorubaland, which draws from Nigerian culture, music and mythology. Drawing deeply from the Yoruba people, the animated series follows a teenage orphan girl, Iyanu, who spends her days studying history and ancient arts but yearns for a normal life.

Netflix historical drama “Elesin Oba, The King’s Horseman,” will become the first Yoruba-language film to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Produced by Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Films and Netflix, the film — which will play in the Special Presentations section — is based on real-life events in Nigeria in 1943, and set in the Oyo Empire, in which the King’s horseman, Elesin Oba, must commit ritual suicide to follow his deceased king into the afterlife.

However, his best intentions are derailed by his sexual desires, which leads to catastrophic consequences and ends in a deadly clash with the British rulers of the day. The horseman is unable to fulfil his ultimate commitment to the king, leaving his spirit to roam the earth, spelling doom for the land and its people.
