Royal Blood was a last-minute addition to BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend music festival, and the rock duo made quite the impression on the crowd.

Royal Blood — consisting of Mike Kerr on vocals and bass, and Ben Thatcher on drums — were added as an 11th-hour replacement for the festival, which was dominated by such pop acts as Lewis Capaldi and Niall Horan.

Given that Royal Blood’s hard-driving rock is as far from pop as it gets, Kerr offered a cheeky intro when they took to the stage.

“I guess I should actually introduce ourselves seeing as no one actually knows who we are. We’re called Royal Blood and this is rock music,” Kerr told the crowd, receiving a tepid response.

British rock band Royal Blood couldn’t stomach their lukewarm reception at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

Kerr stopped during his performance to air out his growing tensions towards the crowd’s lack of excitement.

“I guess I should introduce ourselves, seeing as no one actually knows who we are. We’re called Royal Blood, and this is rock music. Who likes rock music?” he fiercely asked the crowd and expressed further disappointment at the “nine people” who responded.

Royal Blood have announced an extensive two-leg 2023 North American Fall 2023 tour in support of their recently announced forthcoming album, Back to the Water Below. The outing will feature support from Bad Nerves on the first leg and Hot Wax on the second leg.

The first leg of the UK duo’s stateside tour will kick off on September 16th at the Sea.Hear.Now festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and wrap up October 3rd in New York City. The second leg launches November 9th in Los Angeles and finishes November 27th in San Diego.

Royal Blood had what amounted to an on-stage meltdown during their performance at BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend in Dundee, Scotland on Sunday.

The duo apparently became perturbed after receiving a less than enthusiastic reaction from the crowd, leading Mike Kerr frontman to ask, “Who likes rock music?” After receiving some cheers, he responded, “Nine people. Brilliant.”

Later in the set, Kerr commented, “We’re having to clap ourselves because that was so pathetic.” He then turned directly to the the camera and seemingly mocked the crowd: “Will you clap for us? Will you clap? You’re busy. Can you clap? Yes, even he’s clapping. What does that say about you?”

Bob Dylan has revealed that he enjoys listening to Eminem and the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan.

In a new interview, the singer opened up about his favourite artists and explained that he usually discovers new music “mostly by accident”.

Dylan, 81, told The Wall Street Journal that he “is a fan of” Eminem and Wu-Tang Clan and praised them both for their “feeling for words and language”.

He also said that he likes listening to “anybody whose vision parallels mine”.

This is not the first time Dylan has discussed Eminem. In 2001, he admitted to Time that he didn’t know that much about the rapper, but said: “I almost feel like if anything is controversial, the guy’s gotta be doing something right.”

In the same interview, 21 years ago, Dylan claimed that he hated most modern music and said that the radio makes “hideous sounds”.

Royal Blood have announced their new album Typhoons, with the British rock duo also sharing the title track from their upcoming LP, due out April 30th.

Like their 2020 single “Trouble’s Coming” — Typhoons’ opening track — the duo’s new track “Typhoons” finds Royal Blood reconnecting with the electronic music acts that inspired their 2014 debut album, namely Daft Punk, Cassius and Justice.
