In tonight's new, December 15, 2023 episode 10, the 20/20 team will take a deep look at a story about a man named Antonio Armstrong and his wife Dawn Armstrong.

Antonio Armstrong, a former NFL player turned successful business owner, and his wife, Dawn Armstrong, appeared to have a perfect family life in Texas. However, their lives took a tragic turn in July 2016 when their 16-year-old son, Aj, called 911 to report gunshots from his parents’ room. When the police arrived, they found Dawn dead and Antonio gravely injured. Aj became the prime suspect in this shocking case. Despite two previous trials resulting in hung juries over almost a decade, new, previously overlooked evidence emerged, reshaping the legal proceedings.

The son of former NFL star Antonio Armstrong was found guilty of murdering his parents when he was 16 years old.

Antonio “A.J.” Armstrong Jr. was sentenced by a Texas grand jury to life in prison without parole for capital murder.

A.J. was originally charged with the crime in 2016.

According to prosecutors. A.J. fatally shot his parents, Antonio and Dawn Armstrong, while they were in their house in Bellaire. When first responders arrived at the home, they found the couple shot while sleeping in their bed. They pronounced Dawn dead at the scene, and Antonio was rushed to the hospital where he later died due to the gunshot wound he sustained to the head.
