First Came ‘Squid Game’, Now Korea’s ‘Pyramid Game’ Is Heading For Series Mania

Korean content is having its moment, but Pyramid Game will be the only title from the country at next month’s Series Mania.

The series will have its European premiere in Series Mania’s ‘Special Screenings’ section. Pyramid Game is set to premiere on Tving in Korea on February 29 and later this year on Paramount+ globally.

The series depicts a brutal survival game at Baekyeon Girls High School, where students are divided into attackers, victims, and bystanders and gradually descend into the violence of survival. Pyramid Game is based on the Naver webtoon of the same name, which was created by Dalgonyak.

Last year, another Korean school-based thriller, Duty After School, was also invited to Series Mania.

Directed by Bak So-yeon, Pyramid Game will star Kim Ji-yeon, Jang Da-a, Ryu Da-in, Shin Seul-ki, Kang Na-eon, Jeong Ha-dam, and Yulli.A.

Films about cults, although a phenomenon that has tormented particularly countries like Japan and Korea, are not exactly so common, despite the fact that some great titles, as in the case of “Rebirth” by Izuru Narushima do exist. Choi Jeong-min, in his fourth feature, tries to fill this gap with a film that aims at presenting the phenomenon as realistically as possible, although retaining its dramatic premise from beginning to end.

Myeong-seon defected from North Korea with blind, elderly Sin-taek, the leader of the Hwashin Church who worship the God of Light and insist that they can resurrect dead people. Myeong-seon is actually in with Sin-take for this reason, since her son died a while ago and she believes the man can resurrect him. Paramount+ Expands Korean Content Slate With Three Titles Under Cj Enm Partnership – Apos

Paramount+ is expanding its global Korean content slate with three new series produced through its partnership with Korea’s Cj Enm.

The three titles – Dongjae, The Good Or The Bastard, Dreaming Of Cinde Fxxxing Rella and Pyramid Game – will launch exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. They will also be licensed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of Korea, Japan and Taiwan.

Produced by Studio Dragon and Ace Factory, Dongjae, The Good Or The Bastard is a spin-off of thriller series Stranger, revolving around one of the series’ characters, a lawyer called Seo Dongjae. In the spin-off series, he takes on the murder case of a high school girl and is conflicted between his intuition as a prosecutor and his instinct as an opportunist.
