Saad Qureshi is a Pakistani-American filmmaker born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina. Since graduating from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts: School of Filmmaking in 2015, Saad has worked on several major network television series, including The Blacklist (NBC) starring James Spader and Good Behavior (TNT) starring Michelle Dockery. His directorial debut feature film, A Great Lamp, premiered at the 2019 Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury award for Best Narrative Feature Film. A Great Lamp went on to play at festivals throughout the United States, including Mammoth Lakes Film Festival, where a jury composed of A24, The Hollywood Reporter, and the LA Times gave the film the Grand Jury award for Best Narrative Feature Film as well as the award for Best Performance.
In November 2019, A Great Lamp premiered internationally in Paris, France, at the world-famous theater La Cinémathèque française, where it was chosen to showcase true American Independent Cinema to French audiences. After the successful premiere, the film was requested to join La Cinémathèque française's renowned in-house film collection. The film also went on to be incorporated into the International Federation of Film Archives founded by La Cinémathèque française, Berlin's Reichsfilmarchiv, the British Film Institute, and New York's Museum of Modern Art.
A Great Lamp permanently resides on La Cinémathèque française's online streaming platform Henri.
