Neha Shastry is an Indian-Muslim-American Director and Producer based in New York. She makes films about extraordinary people and movements that shape our culture, for better or for worse. Her work has been recognized with an Emmy, a Dupont, and a Peabody.
Neha co-directed the series The Murdochs: Empire of Influence for CNN and HBO Max in partnership with The New York Times. The New Yorker named the series one of the best documentaries of 2022. Her next project as director, The Ruling Class, a series about American billionaires and the ripple effects of their power, will premiere on EPIX in 2023.
She produced All In: The Fight for Democracy, a film about the history and legacy of voter suppression in the U.S, through the lens of Stacey Abrams' work. The film was shortlisted for an Academy Award, and was awarded best documentary by The Hollywood Critics Association, The AAFCA and The Alliance of Women Film Journalists. Next, she produced the film Convergence for Netflix, which was nominated for an Emmy.
From 2021 - 2022, Neha was chosen to participate in Netflix's inaugural Nonfiction Director Fellowship, which is an incubator for up and coming directors of color. Through the fellowship, she partnered once again with Liz Garbus to produce Harry & Meghan, one of Neflix's most anticipated documentary series.
She started her career at Vice News, and just a few months into the job found herself producing their critically acclaimed coverage about Russia's annexation of Crimea and the subsequent war in Eastern Ukraine. Feeling burnt out from the world of journalism, Neha set her sights on filmmaking, and has never looked back.
