Why Melle From Star Trek: Section 31 Looks So Familiar
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Section 31."Emperor Philippa Giorgiou's (Michelle Yeoh) return in "Star Trek: Section 31" has her associating with a pretty wild bunch. Her crew during the film's strange yet crucial special operation features a collection of fascinating characters, ranging from Omari Hardwick's Section 31 liaison Alok Sahar to Sam Richardson's chameloid character Quasi. Since the entire team is decidedly of the black ops variety, they're effectively expendable. The group's borderline redshirt nature is underlined fairly early in the movie when the seductive Deltan team member Melle attempts to subdue a target -- and is promptly shot to death.

Though Melle's demise is far from the only one in the film, it's definitely the earliest. Despite this, she still manages to show why she's a valuable member of the team, which allows actor Humberly González to make the most of the screen time she's given. Since...

Animal Kingdom (2016)
2022's Shows That Ended On Their Own Terms
Animal Kingdom (2016)
Let's admit it; saying goodbye is hard.

But it's even worse when you don't get an ending that offers closure for characters you've come to know.

Sadly, we said goodbye to plenty of shows in 2022, and many didn't get the chance to have a proper series finale.

But there is good news, and the TV Fanatic staff has rounded up the shows that ended with a conclusive series finale.

Check out our thoughts below.

Animal Kingdom (TNT)

Whether you loved it or loathed it, Animal Kingdom went out the same way the Cody boys lived their lives: on its own terms.

The final season delivered some incredible performances from the cast as the season revealed the original sin that changed everything.

While it's still debated whether or not it was the perfect ending for this series, the finality of it and the intent to wrap up the journey in an authentic way is abundantly clear.

In The Dark Season 4 Episode 12 Review: Going Up
Keston John
It seems that it's never in the cards for Murphy Mason to have a happy ending.

After all of the ups and downs throughout the series, especially this season, the Murphy and Max romance came to an utterly tragic end during In The Dark Season 4 Episode 12 when Max died protecting Murphy.

If that was the penultimate episode of the season, one can't even fathom what the series finale will entail!

The only satisfactory end for a character like Josh is death. It's actually incredible that he's somehow managed to surpass Dean as the most loathsome character; Dean, the dirty cop, working with a ruthless drug dealer who murdered an unarmed Black teenager in cold blood and covered it up.

How does one manage to be more detestable than that dude?

Josh's absolutely insane and unhinged obsession with destroying Murphy has reached a point where it's so irritating it has somehow become comical,...

In the Dark Creator Teases a 'Pretty Perfect' Series Finale, Despite Last-Minute Cancellation — Get a First Look
Image
The CW’s In the Dark — despite learning that Season 4 would be its farewell run just weeks ahead of the premiere — will give loyal fans a “satisfying” send-off, says series creator Corinne Kingsbury.

Over the drama series’ first three seasons, Murphy Mason (played by Perry Mattfeld) went from lazy receptionist to drunken vigilante detective, drug front proprietor and a woman-on-the-run. In Season 4 (now airing Mondays at 9/8c), Murphy has worked closely with her ex, Max (Casey Deidrick), best friend Felix (Morgan Krantz) and his sister Lesley (Marianne Rendón) to keep herself out of jail for her assorted crimes.

In The Dark Season 4 Episode 7 Review: C.I. Was Right
Morgan Krantz
Oh, In the Dark, you're guaranteed to provide us with utter madness and chaos.

On an exciting note, Morgan Krantz took a spin in the director's chair for In The Dark Season 4 Episode 7, directing his first installment of the series, and it's so much fun when an actor does that.

They know the characters in a particular way and get to translate that through their direction. You can typically notice a person's distinctive style, too. I love that Krantz had that opportunity and did so well.

But back to the absolute bonkers action that happened throughout this installment.

We still don't know why Darnell is at the level of pissed he was at Murphy other than "because... plot."

For most of the installment, we were stuck with Great Value Darnell, who bitched and moaned after Gene and Sarah's parent-trapped him and Murphy into working with one another.

He nitpicked the whole time,...

10 Best Shows Like In The Dark
As Murphy Mason investigates the disappearance of her teenage friend, she also struggles with everyday pursuits like her love life and job troubles. With such a plot, the CW original In The Dark succeeds at blending the procedural crime genre with that of tragicomedy and drama.

Currently in its fourth season, the show is bound to propel audiences towards checking out similar sitcoms that border on edgy territories or modern classics within the crime genre. Some of the recurring tropes in these shows include hopeless protagonists, inner conflicts, sleepy towns, and much more.

In The Dark Season 4 Episode 1 Review: Bail's In Your Court
Kate Mulgrew, Natasha Lyonne, Selenis Leyva, Laura Prepon, Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba, Dascha Polanco, and Danielle Brooks in Orange Is the New Black (2013)
Murphy Mason is back, and she's not doing well.

The series continues to take the darkest of turns, and In The Dark Season 4 Episode 1 was no exception. In fact, with this serving as the final chapter, one wonders if we'll have anything other than a bleak outcome by the series' end.

It was Orange Is the New Black meets Wentworth, and the premiere didn't hold back.

Visually, it was some fantastic work with setting tones and moods, particularly the prison portion of the installment. The blue tints captured the coldness of the atmosphere while also highlighting Murphy's isolation and fear.

And the way they'd have Murphy bathed in light at some parts was well done too. Again, visually, Savannah's blood pooling toward the Bible and Communion wafers was effectively chilling when you consider she was this last bit of light and hope that Murphy had.

Within seconds, Savannah's death was...

Orange (2016)
In the Dark Trailer Teases a Murphy Mason Prison Break!
Orange (2016)
Our favorite vision-impaired disaster child is back!

An all-new season of In the Dark returns on a new night, Monday, June 6, and Orange is the new Murphy.

The trailer teases that there are some new friends, but the same old Murphy Mason, despite her settling into life behind bars.

When we last saw Murphy, she got arrested and tossed in jail, choosing to take the fall for Jessica.

It was a polarizing decision that sent shockwaves through the fandom. While it was only a matter of time before the law caught up to Murphy in the gang, no one could've anticipated that she'd land behind bars.

And to make things worse, she's now sharing a bunk with Nia's trusty, loyal to the end second, Sam, who believes Murphy is responsible for Nia's murder and much more.

Felix has good reason to be concerned about Murphy's well-being while she's in jail awaiting trial.

In the Dark: An Absurdly Unsatisfying Finale for the Weakest Season Yet
And with that, the single most infuriating season of this series is complete.

Credit where it's due, In the Dark Season 3 Episode 13 kept consistent with the other 80% of the season, save or those precious first three installments before everything started to go downhill.

And the only consistently likable character remaining is a four-legged canine who is a really good boy and deserves all the kisses and treats.

What's worth discussing? Well, let's see.

Ain't That A Kick In the Teeth

After an entire season of Murphy working her ass off to find Jess, we learn that Jess didn't want to be found.

Jess recounted her entire tale of how she ended up in some pet shop in the middle of nowhere within, what, a month? And it played out about as we imagined.

Josiah's protege was the one who dragged Jess out of the building and took her to the hospital.

In the Dark: Murphy Finally Finds Jess & Other Insane Highlights!
After a season of madness and shenanigans, Murphy finally found Jess.

It's been a rough season of In the Dark, but In the Dark Season 3 Episode 12 finally delivered on the 11-episode mystery surrounding the status of Jessica, and it was something else. What? You can decide.

Here are the highlights, lowlights, and Wtf-lights of the hour.

Murphy Mason P.I., Outpolicing the Police

Begrudging kudos to the series for dragging out this Jennifer Walker situation. By golly, we got invested.

At this rate, can we get Murphy Mason a P.I. license since she's already running circles around law enforcement when it comes to solving cases? She's a one-woman show with Pretzel in tow.

Despite the preposterous nature of this case, it wasn't surprising that Murphy would stumble right into finding out Jennifer's creepy uncle was an incestuous pedophile who has been keeping his niece in the basement this entire time.

In The Dark Season 3 Episode 10 Review: Home Run
I am Begging In the Dark to find Jess.

It's been 84 years, for heaven's sake, and we have no legitimate leads, no information, and we're going in circles.

The carousel keeps on spinning onIn The Dark Season 3 Episode 10, with Murphy evading the cops with a startling level of finesse. The police and Josh (because I Refuse to acknowledge him as anything else) make fools of themselves, and Jess is only a figment of Murphy's imagination.

One of the biggest complaints about the series shared by even its most devoted and faithful viewers is how it comes up with these absurd predicaments that spin out of control and that they keep recycling the same formula over and over again.

And we're at the point in the season when both critiques are front and center with neon signs so bright even Murphy could guess that they're there.

It feels like we've been...

In the Dark Season 3 Confirmed
Kayti Burt Jan 13, 2020

The CW's dramedy In the Dark has been given a Season 3, ahead of its Season 2 airing. Here's everything we know so far...

In the Dark was one of 13 currently-running CW TV shows that got the good news it would be getting another season last week. The dramedy about a 20-something blind woman investigating the apparent murder of one of her best friends, has aired one season on The CW, with another already ordered, but not yet having aired. This makes the In the Dark Season 3 confirmation particularly interesting.

In the Dark first hit The CW as a midseason premiere last spring, ending in June 2019. Created by Corinne Kingsbury, it stars Perry Mattfield as Murphy Mason, a hard-drinking, smoking blind woman who, when she stumbles upon the body of the drug-dealing teen who once saved her from a mugger, becomes committed to finding out what happened to him.

In the Dark: Season Three; CW Renewal Issued Ahead of Second Season Debut
There's good news tonight. The CW has given an early third season renewal to the network's In the Dark TV series. A comedy-drama, In the Dark stars Perry Mattfeld, Rich Sommer, Brooke Markham, Casey Deidrick, Keston John, Morgan Krantz, Thamela Mpumlwana, Derek Webster, and Kathleen York. The story follows a hard-drinking and smoking blind woman, Murphy Mason (Mattfield). When she stumbles upon the body of a drug-dealing kid, Tyson (Mpumlwana), who once saved her from a mugger, Dean Riley (Sommer) and the other cops find her drunken account less than convincing and nobody in sight. In the Dark Season 2 Confirmed
Alec Bojalad Apr 24, 2019

The CW has ordered In the Dark Season 2, setting up more adventures for blind heroine Murphy Mason...and Pretzel the dog!

With one stroke of the pen, The CW has ensured that we will be confusing In the Dark and Hulu's Into the Dark for the foreseeable future.

According to Variety, The CW has renewed In the Dark for Season 2, along with a whole host of other shows. Other shows receiving renewals include All American, The 100, and Roswell, New Mexico. With the previously announced Charmed and Legacies renewals, all of The CW's freshman shows have gotten a second season.

Of all the CW renewals, In the Dark Season 2 was probably the most unlikely. The show, which premiered on April 4 and has aired three episodes to date, draws only around 750,000 viewers per episode. Still, The CW must see some promise in the concept.

Perry Mattfield stars as Murphy Mason,...

The CW's In the Dark: Grade It!
In the Dark‘s Murphy Mason isn’t your typical CW heroine: She’s a disaffected, sardonic, kind of callous twentysomething who enjoys her booze and morning-after pills. And she also happens to be blind.

In Thursday’s series premiere, we meet Murphy (played by Shameless‘ Perry Mattfeld) mid-coitus, as her guide dog Pretzel watches nearby. “This dog is so weird. He follows me around everywhere. He’s like a stalker,” Murphy says dryly.

Afterward, Murphy sends her sexual partner on his way without so much as a cuddle. When he notes that she doesn’t have his number to text him later,...

"In The Dark"
"In the Dark", is the new episodic comedy/drama series, created by Corinne Kingsbury, starring Perry Mattfeld as an "irreverent blind woman" caught up in a murder mystery, premiering April 4, 2019 on The CW:

"...'Murphy Mason' (Mattfeld), a blind woman in her twenties, drifts through life in a drunken haze. Her only two friends, 'Jess' (Brooke Markham), her understanding roommate and 'Tyson', a teenage street hustler who saved her from a violent mugging. Out for a walk with her guide dog, 'Pretzel' (Levi), she stumbles upon a body, she is certain is Tyson, but it disappears before the police arrive. When they don't seem inclined to investigate, Murphy clings onto the only thing that can keep her together: figuring out what happened to her friend.

"She resolves to solve the murder herself, while also managing a dating life and a job she hates at a school for guide...
