If you browse through Netflix's thriller section, you'll notice that Harlan Coben’s adaptations continue to dominate. The streaming platform currently hosts 10 series based on his novels, along with one original show not tied to his published works. In 2025, three out of those 10 series adaptations were released. First was Missing You, followed by Just One Look and then Caught (Atrapados).
But with all three offering their own unique twists, which one truly stands out? Which one will have you hooked from beginning to end and leave you wanting more? In this article, we rank all three from worst to best, so you can find the perfect binge for your next thriller fix.

Harlan Coben's latest adaptation continues a positive Netflix trend for the acclaimed writer and executive producer. Missing You, which debuted on January 1, is among the most-watched shows so far this year on the platform.
Per FlixPatrol, the Coben adaptation debuted at No. 3 on Netflix's Top 10 most-watched series list and is still yet to drop below fourth place. Missing You's success continues the mystery novel writer's streak of wins since he inked a multi-million-dollar, 5-year contract with Netflix in 2018. Per the terms of the deal, the giant streamer would develop fourteen of his novels for the big and small screen, with Coben as executive producer on all projects. The deal was extended in 2022 following the arrival of The Stranger, The Woods, The Innocent, Gone For Good, Stay Close, and Hold Me Tight, all to varying degrees of acclaim. 2024's Fool Me Once was Coben's last adaptation to debut before his latest effort.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Missing You.
Netflix’s new Harlan Coben series Missing You repeats one of the most notable complaints from another Coben series, Fool Me Once. After releasing on Netflix on January 1, 2025, Missing You has become one of the most popular new series of the new year. Rosalind Eleazar leads the cast of Missing You alongside Ashley Walters, Mary Malone, Jessica Plummer, Richard Armitage, and Charlie Hamblett. The 5-part series was directed by Nimer Rashed and Isher Sahota.
Missing You is the latest entry to Netflix's Harlan Coben Collection, which also includes The Stranger, Stay Close, Safe, Hold Tight, The Innocent, Gone For Good, and 2024's Fool Me Once. Despite its current popularity on Netflix, Missing You divided critics, earning a score of 52% on Rotten Tomatoes and an eyebrow-raising 27% audience score. One of the major reasons for Missing You's notably low audience score is its numerous plot holes and head-scratching moments.

Acclaimed author Harlan Coben has a new series now streaming on Netflix, and to no one’s surprise, it has found immediate success and climbed to near the top of streaming charts. Missing You, the crime thriller series starring Rosalind Eleazar (Slow Horses) and Jessica Plummer, is currently the second-most popular show on Netflix at the time of writing, second only to Squid Game Season 2. Missing You tells the story of Kat Donavan, a detective who is forced to unravel a mysterious conspiracy theory surrounding her father and ex-fiancé after she finds his profile on a dating app. The show currently sits at abysmal scores of 50% from critics and 28% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but that hasn’t stopped it from racking up viewership numbers and performing well for Netflix.

We're nearing the end of the new Harlan Coben Netflix show, Missing You, and things are getting really good! At the end of Missing You episode 3, Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar) learns that her friend, Aqua (Mary Malone), was the person who attacked Brendan (Oscar Kennedy) in the park.
Missing You episode 4 begins shortly after, but first, we get to see a flashback of Josh (Ashley Walters) showing Aqua the ring. He was going to propose to Kat before he left. Then, we’re in the interrogation room with Aqua and Kat. Aqua saw Brendan leaving Kat’s place and she followed him because she wanted to try to protect Josh. Remember, Aqua believes Josh isn’t a bad guy. During the conversation, Aqua has a breakdown after being triggered by a memory of someone banging on a door. We don’t know what that means, but it likely has to do with Josh’s disappearance.

Harlan Coben’s new Netflix show, Missing You, gets off to a bit of a slow start in the series premiere, “Every Breath You Take.” Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar) finds her ex who has been missing for 11 years on a dating app. When she reaches out, he cuts off contact. Believe it or not, Rosalind Eleazar is used to playing wilder characters than Detective Kat Donovan in Netflix’s Missing You.
But it didn’t stop the shoot from getting pretty intense.
The latest in the streamer’s slate of Harlan Coben adaptations, Missing You follows the story of Slow Horses star Eleazar as a detective specializing in Missing Persons.
Eleven years ago, her fiancé Josh (played by Ashley Walters), the love of her life, vanished without a trace. Now, swiping profiles on a dating app, she sees his face, and her world threatens to explode all over again. The experience forces her to dive back into the mystery surrounding the murder of her father (Lenny Henry) and uncover long-buried secrets from her past. Harlan Coben’s new Netflix show, Missing You, just premiered on Netflix on Jan. 1, 2025. When publishing this recap and review, it’s the no. 2 Netflix show behind Squid Game season 2. It seems unlikely that it’ll be more popular than Squid Game after seeing the early numbers, but it’s still well on its way to a huge premiere, just like Fool Me Once, the Harlan Coben Netflix show that premiered on New Year’s Day 2024.
Missing You episode 1, “Every Breath You Take,” begins the same way most of Coben’s show begin with a big mystery, a detective, and a new case that re-opens old wounds to solve.
In the opening scene, we see a man trying to escape something on a horse. He looks disheveled, but he’s imagining an old love. Then, he falls off the horse and knocks himself out.

The Rotten Tomatoes score of Netflix's new TV show Missing You is significantly lower than Fool Me Once. Missing You and Fool Me Once are adaptations of Harlan Coben's books. Netflix adapted both novels. Missing You revolves around Detective Inspector Kat Donovan, who discovers her missing fiancé on a dating site over ten years after he disappeared. Despite the excitement leading up to the premiere, including first-look images of Harlan Coben's adaptation of Missing You, the show has a 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Fool Me Once garnered 71% on Rotten Tomatoes—almost a 30% difference.
Despite the low ratings, Missing You has a talented cast of characters, from Rosalind Eleazar to Jessica Plummer to Ashley Walters. Missing You's ending also contains many explosive twists. While Missing You may not be the best of Netflix's Harlan Coben TV shows, the difference between Missing You and Fool Me Once is still staggering.

Missing You arrived one year after Coben's Fool Me Once dominated the streaming charts, with the new series focusing on a detective who loses the love of her life. It is based on Coben's 2014 novel of the same name. The adaptation is led by Slow Horses star Rosalind Eleazar, with an ensemble that includes Ashley Walters, Jessica Plummer, and Richard Armitage.
In an interview with Variety, Coben reveals the new Netflix show garnered an emotional reaction out of him. The author, who is an executive producer on the series, notes that Fool Me Once did get a reaction out of him but the latest adaptation was the most emotionally invested he's gotten. The quote is below:
“This is the most emotional ending that I’ve experienced.

The new Harlan Coben series that launched on Netflix on Jan. 1 uses the title of John Waite’s hit “Missing You,” just like its book version. No surprise given that the famous author felt the title was “perfect” for the novel, as he revealed during a recent visit to London to present a first glimpse of the screen adaptation, which is expected to use song titles for each of its five episodes.
“I thought of the song right away,” Coben shared with reporters who got to see the first episode of the series. “In fact, John Waite and I, when the book came out, actually did a couple of events together.”
“Yeah, he did the singing,” the best-seller author quipped. “And when he heard about the show, he inundated me with emails like, ‘Here’s another version that I’ve done on the song,’ and ‘Here’s a duet I did with the song.

Forget “Nashville’s Big Bash,” “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest,” and Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper taking advantage of CNN’s refreshment budget. TV’s most popular New Year’s tradition is fast becoming a Netflix whodunit which continually drops the ball in plot, dialogue, and anything approaching the human condition.
Indeed, following the success of “Stay Close” and “Fool Me Once,” the streaming giant is once again ringing in the New Year with the help of potboiler extraordinaire Harlan Coben. This time around, it’s his 2014 novel “Missing You” getting the small screen treatment across five episodes precision tooled to binge along with your party leftovers. And it may well be the most far-fetched yet, no tall order considering previous ventures have involved everything from decapitated alpacas and deepfaked dead partners to a murderous cabaret duo named Ken and Barbie.

Missing You is mostly about Detective Inspector Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar), who is haunted by the murder of her father and the sudden disappearance of her fiancé. Her emotional journey reflects a society afraid to confront its shared grief.
Finding Josh’s (Ashley Walters) profile on a dating app serves as a catalyst, bringing together her pain and her professional job. Can we escape the shadows of our quest? This connection begs the existential question.
The side story about a missing teen’s mother is a moving backdrop and mirrors Kat’s quest for closure. It underscores their fragility in a digital age that frequently destroys personal connections.
Every case Kat looks into shows how society doesn’t pay enough attention to personal trauma. This turns her job duties into a deeper reflection on loss and the human state. The narrative makes fun of cultural amnesia and shows how desperately...

Star of hits like Inside No. 9, Benidorm, and The League of Gentlemen, Steve Pemberton's CV reads like a "best of" list of modern British comedy. However, the funny man is not averse to a darker turn, something fans can expect when he stars alongside the likes of Richard Armitage and Rosalind Eleazer in Netflix's next Harlan Coben adaptation, Missing You. Also starring the likes of Jessica Plummer, Ashley Walters, Lenny Henry, Mary Malone, Lisa Faulkner, and James Nesbitt, Missing You looks to follow on from the success of the last Netflix-Coben team up Fool Me Once with yet another twisting mystery based on one of the prolific author's best-loved books. Harlen Coben’s Missing You comes to Netflix at the very start of 2025 – and here’s the trailer for the new Netflix production.
The Harlan Coben thriller is quickly becoming its own subgenre. So far, 12 of his high-octane, twisty novels have made their way to the screen. Among the highlights, Tell No One was adapted into a terrific French film of the same name in 2006, directed by Guillaume Canet and starring Francois Cluzet and Kristen Scott Thomas.
On television, The Five, Safe, Innocent, Just One Look, No Second Chance, The Stranger, The Woods, Gone For Good, Stay Close, Hold Me Tight and – most recently – Fool Me Once have all been adapted variously for Channel 5 and Netflix. It’s thanks to the huge success of Fool Me Once, which landed on Netflix last Christmas, that two more adaptations were commissioned.

Netflix’s latest dark comedy The Decameron answers the question: How would a group of wealthy people, isolated from the rest of the world due to a pandemic, act? If that premise is sounding eerily relevant to the last few years, it’s no coincidence.
Showrunner Kathleen Jordan was inspired by what the world had experienced during the early days of Covid-19, and by “the concept of examining the slice of life moment of a pandemic.” Loosely based on Giovanni Boccaccio’s short story collection set during the Black Death, Jordan found a way to tell this story to a modern audience.
A jam-packed ensemble cast — including Tony Hale, Zosia Mamet, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Jessica Plummer and Tanya Reynolds — comes together in an Italian villa in an attempt to wait out the plague. While the concept itself doesn’t immediately read comedy, through Jordan’s unique tone and the acting, the...

Named for the 14th-century work by Giovanni Boccaccio, Netflix's The Decameron tells the story of a group of Italians trying to escape the torments of the bubonic plague. The Decameron on Netflix isn't the streaming service's first foray into the Middle Ages, and it veers from what Boccaccio wrote in many ways. However, there are echoes of truth and honesty in The Decameron that attest to the spirit of its namesake. The Decameron does not recount exactly what happened in Boccaccio's work. Rather, the show adapts the source material to be relevant and eerily familiar to viewers who have their own experiences with life during a pandemic.
Boccaccio's 100 short stories and 10 storytellers are the inspiration for The Decameron's eight episodes.
