Caroline Chikezie Addresses Noma Prequel Buzz, Shares Insight Into Shooting Steamy Love Scenes in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ — Deadline Q&a
Image
Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from Starz‘s Power Book II: Ghost series finale.

When the Starz drama series Power Book II: Ghost introduced the character of Noma in Season 3, no one could’ve guessed her impact on the show’s characters — not even Caroline Chikezie, who brought the character to life.

In the male-dominated industry of drugs, guns and all things illegal, it’s rare to have a woman create the level of chaos that men do, but to surpass it is quite a feat. And Ghost had two women in the business making men quake: Noma and day-one baddie Monet, played by Mary J. Blige.

“Could you imagine if they had teamed up instead of fighting each other?” Chikezie said of Noma and Monet during a recent chat with Deadline about the show’s finale.

The women certainly had a lot in common: they were...

Michael Rainey Jr. on His ‘Power’ Evolution, ‘Ghost’ Ending and That Mystery Call
Image
[This story contains spoilers from the Power Book II: Ghost series finale.]

On the very first episode of Power created by Courtney Kemp and executive produced by rapper-turned-tv mogul Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson back in June 2014, there was no way of knowing that the kid in the nice penthouse apartment asking his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) if his father James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), who spoke fluent Spanish, could “hook up” his Spanish homework as she served breakfast was on his way to becoming a drug kingpin. At that point, the young Tariq didn’t even know his father was himself a kingpin known on the streets as Ghost (Hardwick). And that his mother also knew. Michael Rainey Jr. was just a few months from turning 14. Now a decade later, just over a week after turning 24, he’s closed out another series.

When Power Book II: Ghost premiered Sept. 6, 2020, the pandemic had put the whole country and world on a life-turning timeout.

‘Power Book II: Ghost’ To End With Season 4
Image
Fans of the Power franchise are losing Ghost again — but this time, it’s the series.

Starz has canceled Power Book II: Ghost, with the show’s fourth season to serve as its last. It will be broken into two parts, premiering June 7 and September 6. Watch the teaser above.

The move was prefaced by Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch this week when he revealed plans to contain content costs by developing more new shows versus sustaining series longer as they become more expensive.

Using the Power franchise as an example, he said: “You look at the [Power] map and say, ‘Ok, if I take one of those characters out and spin one of those out, I can bring that on to replace the Power show at half the cost.’ Now I’m putting a lot of money right to the bottom line. And I’m really not losing anything in terms of acquisition costs and subscriber viewership,...

‘An Amityville Poltergeist’ – The One That Shamelessly Rips Off J-Horror [The Amityville IP]
Image
Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”

Straight off the top, audiences going into An Amityville Poltergeist (2020) hoping to see objects flying around the famed Long Island house need to adjust their expectations. Despite featuring the word “poltergeist” in the title, the film is more of a drama with J-Horror spectral hauntings. In fact all of the horrific set pieces draw heavily on the visual iconography of Ringu/The Ring and The Grudge.

An Amityville Poltergeist is another name-only entry in the Amityville “franchise.” According to IMDb trivia, the film was shot under the title No Sleep, then became Don’t Sleep in post-production, then changed to include Amityville by the distributor when it was being shopped around.

So while there is a brief, half-hearted attempt to capture the iconic cat eye windows,...

‘Amityville Poltergeist’ Review
Image
Stars: Parris Bates, Conor Austin, Sydney Winbush, Rebecca Morse, Jon Ashley Hall | Written by Calvin Morie McCarthy, Jon Ashley Hall | Directed by Calvin Morie McCarthy

After Amityville Island, Amityville Asylum, Amityville Cornfield and Witches of Amityville Academy I was actually surprised to find out that nobody had made a film called Amityville Poltergeist before this. It seems like a natural combination, the infamous haunted house and the most infamous type of haunting.

Jim (Parris Bates; Fencesitters) is a broke college student. His friend Collin (Conor Austin) and Collin’s girlfriend Alyson (Sydney Winbush; Shrill) suggest selling his plasma but he hates needles. Instead, he gets a weekend gig house-sitting for Eunice (Rebecca Kimble or Rebecca Morse depending on whether you go by IMDb or the end credits) and her son Tony (Jon Ashley Hall) after what has to be one of the most awkward job interviews on record. During it,...
