Alien Becomes Violent 80s-Style Anime In Fan Film Independently Animated Over 6 Years
Image
OtaKing Animation reimagines the Alien franchise as '80s anime in Alien: Monday. Johnson's impressive fan-animations include Doctor Who and Star Wars: Tie Fighter. Alien: Monday offers a rare portrayal of Scott's horror in animation after a lack of animated content.

The Xenomorph menace stalks its way into animation, as OtaKing Animation's latest painstakingly animated short film reimagines Ridley Scott's Alien sci-fi horror franchise as a suspenseful and bloody '80s-inspired anime. Beginning in 1979, the Alien franchise centers on the horrors of the Xenomorphs, an intergalactic apex predator shrouded in mystery that stalks, infects, and kills anything that stands in their way. The Alien franchise is set to make a long-awaited return to the big screen in Alien: Romulus, Fede Alvarez' latest installment that is set between the events of the original Alien and James Cameron's more action-oriented Aliens.

First Trailer for Animated Alien Short Film 'Alien: Monday' by Otaking
Image
"The worst day of the week." There's a new animated sci-fi short film in the works titled Alien: Monday, an Alien-inspired short set on a spacecraft involving a xenomorph on the loose. We missed this trailer when it first debuted a few weeks ago, but happy to post it anyway because this looks damn good. Animator Paul "Otaking" returns with more retro anime shading in this new chapter of a familiar tale. The crew of the Thanatos, a remote mining ship at the edge of the galaxy, discover the danger of undeclared cargo. We all know what happens next. There's no dialogue or voices yet, though they list the voice cast in the credits: Sara Secora and Phillip Sacramento. Not sure when this will get a full release, hopefully by the end of 2023. We'll definitely keep an eye out for any news. While 20th Century did make a series...

Boonie Bears: Back to Earth review – Chinese animated blockbuster is messy but fun
Sara Secora
Pixar beware: Huida Lin’s film is an entertaining hodgepodge of styles and ideas that could one day turn the animation tide east

It is refreshing to see that, within the digital animation blitz, some things remain resolutely old-fashioned. At one point in this Chinese animated blockbuster, the eighth film spin-off from a popular kids’ TV cartoon series, lead character Bramble (Joseph S Lambert) dresses up as a sexy lady, Bugs Bunny-style, as a diversion. And with his penchant for frequent snack breaks, this lovable lummox – who for obscure reasons lives with another bear, two monkeys and one human in the forest of Bear Ridge – resembles no one so much as the equally gluttonous Yogi Bear.

Bramble winds up becoming smarter than your average bear when he tampers with a cuboid alien artefact that crash-lands in the woods and downloads hidden capabilities into his brain. But it belongs to Avi (Sara Secora), a blue,...
