James ‘Murr’ Murray to Host 25th Annual Golden Trailer Awards (Exclusive)

The Golden Trailer Awards, the prestigious event honoring marketing executives and companies that create movie trailers, commercials and posters worldwide, will be hosted by James Murray, best known as Murr from TBS’s “Impractical Jokers.” The event will be held Thursday, May 29, at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

A comedian, writer and producer, Murr worked as the senior vice president of development for NorthSouth Productions for nearly a decade before rocketing to comedy fame on “Impractical Jokers.” He is now the owner of Impractical Studios. Murr is also an international bestselling author, whose works include the sci-fi horror “Awakened” trilogy, the suspense thrillers “You Better Watch Out,” “Don’t Move” and “The Stowaway,” and the middle-grade series “Area 51 Interns.” His horror movie “Don’t Move” hits theaters soon.

“Murr’s comedy is a perfect match for the most fun awards ceremony on the calendar,” said Evelyn Brady, Golden Trailer Awards executive director.

Exclusive: Comedian and writer Dina Hashem has set a November 10th premiere date for Dina Hashem: Dark Little Whispers, her first-ever stand-up special, which is headed for Prime Video. View the trailer for it above.

In Hashem’s breakout hour of comedy, exec produced by fellow comic Sam Morril (Netflix’s Same Time Tomorrow), she discusses everything from death threats and existential dilemmas, to relationship problems, quiet people, and her upbringing as a first generation Arab-American. Sundance Institute announced on Monday (August 10) the 11 artists selected for its inaugural Women at Sundance | Adobe Fellowship, a programme designed to support filmmakers with an emphasis on those from historically underrepresented communities.

The fellowship includes a $5,000 cash grant, skill-building workshops, and year-round mentorship from Sundance Institute staff and Adobe executives.

Adobe, a founding supporter of young artist initiative Sundance Ignite, selected the fellows, each of whom is participating in a specialty Sundance Institute Lab or programme.

The 2019 Sundance Film Festival has announced its Indie Episodic, Shorts and Special Events slate, which will include series executive produced by people like Jordan Peele and Steven Soderbergh, as well as episodic content starring Rosamund Pike.

The Untitled Amy Berg Documentary, directed and produced by Berg, will also be heading to the festival, as will Kyra Sedgwick’s “Girls Weekend,” starring Amy Landecker and Ali Liebegott.

Overall, 12 episodic works, 73 short films from 33 countries and four special events have joined the festival slate that was first announced last week. Of the projects announced on Monday, 53 percent were directed or created by one or more women, 51 percent were directed or created by one or more filmmaker of color, and 26 percent were created or directed by one or more people who identify as Lgbtqia.

The second year of the Indie Episodic section at Sundance Film Festival brings world premieres of the Nick Hornby marriage therapy comedy State Of The Union directed by Stephen Frears and starring Rosamund Pike and Chris O’Dowd, and Kyra Sedgwick’s Girls Weekend, about a queer daughter who returns for a family gathering in Las Vegas.

Festival programmers have lined up 12 Episodic works, alongside four special events, among them Gregg Araki’s half-hour Starz comedy series Now Apocalypse about the misadventures of four friends in Los Angeles. Steven Soderbergh is among the executive producers.

Comedy Central has announced the lineups for its January Stand-Up Month, including four new one-hour specials, and talent for a new digital series of half-hour specials under two different banners.

The January Stand-Up Month will feature new specials from Ron Funches, James Davis (Hood Adjacent with James Davis), Chris Distefano and Roy Wood Jr.. The specials will air consecutive Fridays throughout the month at 11 Pm Et/Pt.
