When the news broke that Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet would be walking into the twisted world of Dexter: Resurrection as a potential serial killer, longtime fans of the sitcom were both surprised and intrigued. Famous for his Emmy-winning portrayal of the flamboyant and hilarious Cameron Tucker, he initially seemed like an unlikely choice for a role so dark.
But if Stonestreet can successfully go from punchlines to murdering people, who’s to say another Modern Family star can’t follow suit? I’m thinking Ty Burrell: the fun-loving, ever-so-awkward father. His portrayal as Phil Dunphy feels so sincere, it’s almost impossible to think of him playing anyone else. And for this very reason, I think he could be an excellent choice for someone who can channel likability to disguise their true, dark nature.

Modern Family may have wrapped in April 2020, but the cast still lives rent-free in our heads. From Julie Bowen’s seemingly ageless glow to one actor who’s pulling off the “finest wine” transformation like a pro, the glow-ups (and glow-steady cases) are real.
Over the years, this lovable sitcom family’s had their own aging arc. Whether it’s the Dunphy kids stepping into their adult era or the Pritchetts embracing silver fox status, this then-and-now rewind proves that time has only turned up the style and swagger, and not dulled their charm.

For 11 seasons, Modern Family won over the audience with its hilarious characters and touching moments. Among them was Cameron Tucker, the bubbly, over-the-top partner to Mitchell Pritchett. Cam was beloved for his larger-than-life personality, his love for drama, and his fun antics.

However, as the series progressed, it became increasingly clear that beneath Cam’s bubbly, comedic exterior, there was a darker, more toxic side to his personality. Unfortunately, Modern Family often ignored these flaws, leaving them unresolved, and that’s why I’m relieved that the proposed Modern Family spinoff never saw the light of the day.
Modern Family‘s Cam was way too toxic that the show rarely addressed

Modern Family was a sitcom game-changer which embraced a broader concept of family. While the show was a massive hit with fans during its 11 season run, Julie Bowen didn't think she had what it took to land the role of Claire Dunphy.
During an appearance on The Three Questions with Andy Richter Podcast, Bowen recalled how baffled she was when her agents mentioned Modern Family. "I was like, 'I can't tell a joke, I'm not funny, don't give me those three-jokes-a-page kind of things," she said before explain that her team had more faith in her ability than she did. "My managers were always very supportive, like, 'You know what? Helen Hunt isn't funny.' I go, 'What?' They're like, 'Not technically.' [So] I said, 'She just won like five Emmys.' They're like, 'Yes. So she's funny in a different way. She's not three-jokes-a-page funny. And yet she is wildly funny.

Home Economics was a criminally short-lived sitcom that both built on the success of Modern Family's template and improved some of its biggest weaknesses. Modern Family was a wildly successful mockumentary that brought diverse representations of what a family can look like into peoples living rooms. The final season of Modern Family aired in 2020, but many elements of the show already feel outdated, especially compared to the sitcom that would debut on the same network just a year later.
Modern Family explored the dynamics between three branches of a family in Los Angeles. Home Economics, by contrast, centered on three adult siblings and their families in San Francisco, as the oldest brother prepares to write a book about their lives. Both series showcase different types of marriages, ethnicities, and financial situations, but Home Economics avoids leaning into troubling stereotypes that Modern Family never softened over its 11 seasons.

It's so crazy to think that Modern Family is already celebrating 15 years! The show first came into our lives in September 2009 and ran for 11 seasons until April 2020. It's definitely one of the best sitcoms out there, and you know us fans would never say no to more. Perhaps a reunion episode? There's also the option of a spin-off. Though, I don't think that's the best idea.
In speaking with In Depth With Graham Bensinger, Cameron Tucker actor Eric Stonestreet shared that there was a potential for a Mitchell and Cam spin-off series that would have followed the couple's lives in Missouri after Cam accepted the coaching job, per TVLine. Of course their daughter Lily and new son, Rexford would be there as well. However, the idea only made it as far as a scripted pilot before ABC passed on it.

“Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet said during a video interview with Graham Bensinger (via Entertainment Weekly) that “it felt a little hurtful” when ABC rejected a planned sequel series that would’ve followed the lives of Cameron (Stonestreet), Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and their daughter, Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons), as they move to Missouri for Cameron to live his dream as a college football coach. The spinoff had the backing of original “Modern Family” co-creator Chris Lloyd.
“I don’t think it’s potential anymore,” Stonestreet said of the axed sequel series. “They had their chance. Chris Lloyd and a couple of the writers wrote a really great script that spun Jesse and I off in our life in Missouri, and they said, ‘No.’ They just said, ‘We don’t want to do it.’”

Working on the set of ABC's Modern Family feels like it should have been a loving and hilarious experience, and it largely was, except when the tabloid media perpetuated fake feuds between the show's stars. Whilst Modern Family was airing on ABC, stories were being published about a rivalry between Julie Bowen and Sofa Vergara, the two leading actresses. A yarn was spun by the press that the stars resented each other and were constantly trying to outperform one another during shooting. But Bowen says these claims were completely untrue.
During a recent appearance on the 90210Mg podcast, Julie Bowen reflected on her supposed rivalry with co-star and long-time friend Sofa Vergara. The actor likened their reported rivalry to that of the titular frenemies of the classic comic Betty and Veronica. The actress believes it came from a sexist perspective that only one woman in a group can be happy at a time,...

In a way, I’m relieved.
Reboots of all-time classics, of which “Modern Family” in the sitcom genre absolutely qualifies, are terrifying. The only thing they can really do is taint the reputation of the original.
On the other hand: what a disappointment.
“Modern Family” stars Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson have indeed reunited as their characters Phil and Claire Dunphy, Mitchell Pritchett, and Cameron Tucker on their ABC set — for a WhatsApp commercial. Because of course it was.
To be fair, the concept of the ad makes good sense in the “Modern Family” universe: Phil, Claire, and Cam are sharing photos of Haley’s twins in the family group chat. Phil blows the secret that it’s a different family group chat, drawing looks from Claire and Cam.
Mitchell is not in that one, and it is no oversight. The problem is his new...

Modern Family is back… but don’t expect a reboot.
Four of the original cast members of the ABC sitcom are returning to their roles, starring in a new commercial for WhatsApp, the chat platform owned by Meta.
The stars, Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy), Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy), Eric Stonestreet (Cameron Tucker), and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell Pritchett), are reprising their roles for the spot, which pokes fun at group chats in which some members have an iPhone and a blue bubble, and others have an Android phone with a dreaded green bubble.
The platform is pitching itself as a solution to that “divide,” using the ABC sitcom as a hook.

Ferguson sparked online rumors of a Modern Family reboot when he shared a photo from the set of the sitcom, captioning the photo “Haven’t seen this view in a while.” He declined to share more when asked...

Realistic TV marriages require sacrifice and commitment to make the relationship last. Conflict often arises from career clashes between spouses on TV shows. Many TV couples go through rough patches but ultimately reconcile and reaffirm their commitment to each other.
The most realistic married couples on TV contend with real problems: careers, raising children, paying the bills, etc. These things can lead to a divorce in real life, but don’t as often on TV. However, it is not uncommon for a TV show couple to come to an impasse in their marriage, where they are forced to reevaluate their priorities and decide if they want to stay together.
The most realistic TV marriages demonstrate both partners' sacrifice and their commitment to making their marriage work. Past the initial spark and romance, they must remain committed to preserving a long-term relationship. On TV, work conflicts are possibly the most common cause of tension between partners.

Disney+ has released the trailer for the second season of "The Santa Clauses," setting the stage for a heated battle for the title of Santa Claus. Scott Calvin, played by Tim Allen, is determined to pass on the role of Santa Claus to his son Cal, but a rival named Magnus Anta threatens to reclaim the position. Emmy Award winner Eric Stonestreet joins the cast as Magnus Anta, a former Santa Claus from the 14th century who is seeking revenge and wants to take control of the North Pole once again.

As audiences may recall, the current Santa Claus, aka Scott Calvin (Tim Allen), has been ready to turn the reigns over, but his efforts during the series' first season were unsuccessful.

Modern Family drew fans into the Pritchett-Dunphy's family dynamic through its documentary style, but the show's original storyline almost ruined this. The series ran from 2009 through 2020 and featured an unknown documentary filmmaker following the not-so-traditional family. The Dunphy household looks pretty average on the outside, but when taken into their home, they present themselves much differently. Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) and her husband, Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell), desperately want to have a good relationship with their children, but this proves to be a complicated thing to achieve.
The dysfunctional family dynamic is what makes the show so enjoyable and adds to so many of its comedic moments. It's been two years since Modern Family ended but the cast is still making headlines after a few small reunions and interviews about one another. Not only did a majority of the cast get together for Sarah Hyland's (Haley Dunphy) wedding in August 2022, but a few of the former castmates also bumped into each other at an event that Eric Stonestreet (Cameron Tucker) shared on Instagram.
Stonestreet knocked his role of Cameron Tucker out of the park. Cam was theatrical, lively, and a little bit too much to deal with at times, but it's what made everyone love him. Along with his dramatic ways came sassy remarks that burned his friends and family alike. Even his young daughter wasn't safe from Cam's witty retorts. And as shocking or funny as his lines were, his shade was the best part of his character.

Recently, Eric Stonestreet (Cameron Tucker) was on The Drew Barrymore Show and played a fun game where he had to say which former Modern Family costar was like "most likely" to do something on set, according to Looper. When asked who was most like their character, Stonestreet hilariously said Julie Bowen. "[Bowen's] pretty energetic, on top of things...[A] taskmaster. Lovely."
On Modern Family, Bowen nailed it as the zany control-freak who was constantly chasing around her three kids and husband. With so much on her plate, Claire spoke what was on her mind and didn't care how it came off. Although most of her family members were quick-witted, Claire could be ruthless with her burns. She said it best herself, "If I say something that everybody else is thinking, does that make me a mean person?"

Sadly for Cameron, no one in the family is a fan of Fizbo (or clowns in general), but that doesn't stop him from whipping out the face paint and getting into character.

ABC's Modern Family is a rare sitcom where there’s no dead weight in the cast. There’s something to love about every character, and they each have their fair share of brilliant storylines. It’s official — ABC’s flagship comedy series Modern Family will wrap its run after one more season. The Emmy-winning family comedy has been picked up for an eleventh and final season, the network announced at TCA. I hear it will consist of at least 18 episodes and could expand to 22 episodes.
Modern Family’s renewal was all but assured when the original adult cast, stars Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara, in December agreed on new deals with producing studio 20th Century Fox TV to return. Since then, the studio also has signed co-creators/executive producers Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd for another season, and also has made new deals with the original kid actors — now all young adults — Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez. I hear some of those cast negotiations came down to the wire, with pacts finally closing overnight.
