You can’t keep a good woman down. Last May, it was announced that Kelli Giddish would return to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as a series regular, reprising her role as Sergeant Amanda Rollins. Although she has appeared as a special guest star since her departure, Giddish has not been a regular cast member since Season 24 Episode 9, “And a Trauma in a Pear Tree,” when Rollins married Ada Dominick Carisi Jr. (Peter Scanavino) and left the squad to teach at Fordham University. Reunited with her old squad, Giddish is thrilled to be back. She shared her happiness in an interview with Extra, where the Svu actress discussed her return as a series regular and what it means for both the show and her character. She also offered a glimpse at what fans can in the upcoming season and how her return will impact the squad room. “I...

Law & Order: SVUseason 27 behind-the-scenes images show Kelli Giddish's Rollins returning full-time. Giddish joined the cast of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in season 13 as Detective Amanda Rollins, who became a firm fan-favorite during her stint on the show. She eventually left as a series regular midway through Svu season 24.
Rollins' story arc had the character leaving after she resigned from Svu following her wedding, and took a full-time post teaching criminology at Fordham University. Behind the scenes, Giddish's departure was believed to have been forced due to salary disputes, but things were ironed out, and she will return to the show in a full-time capacity for season 27.

Law & Order: Svu Season 27 production is in full swing as the stars take to the streets of New York City for filming, and while it’s too tough to discern what storylines Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and team will be tackling, it’s more than clear Kelli Giddish is fully back as Amanda Rollins. Giddish was spotted on set alongside Hargitay and their costar Peter Scanavino, who plays Sonny Carisi in the long-running procedural drama from executive producer Dick Wolf, as they filmed scenes around the city on July 29. As the images reveal, despite the late hour of the shoot, NYC’s heatwave had the cast members cooling themselves down with hand-held fans. Still, everyone was all smiles as they posed together for photographers between scenes for the series. As fans will recall, Giddish’s full-time return as Rollins was announced earlier this year in May. Jose Perez...

Now, the pair have been spotted on set with production beginning last week.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is officially back in production for Season 27. The police procedural returns as the longest current running police procedural. Captain Olivia Benson herself, Mariska Hargitay took to Instagram to show fans a glimpse into the 16th Precinct for the new season. It comes with some changes, as Aimé Donna Kelly was just recently bumped to series regular and the return of Kelli Giddish as a series regular. The series also has its first female showrunner, Michele Fazekas, who served as a writer and executive producer from seasons 3 through 7.
Hargitay’s video peeled back the curtain on a scene for the upcoming season featuring Peter Scanavino, Kevin Kane, and Kelly. She took the video into the scene, filming as dialogue was rehearsed until someone off screen asked to talk. Not seen was Giddish but maybe this case brings her Sgt. Amanda Rollins and things go from there.

Law & Order faces a major shakeup ahead of its landmark Season 25. Deadline reports that Mechad Brooks, who plays Detective Jalen Shaw, is exiting ahead of the upcoming season. Brooks starred as Detective Shaw for three seasons. Deadline reports that the "parting of ways" was mutual and Brooks is already "exploring other opportunities." Deadline confirms, however, that Tony Goldwyn, Reid Scott, Hugh Dancy, Odelya Halevi, and Maura Tierney, will return for the Dick Wolf police procedural's 25th season. Brooks' Detective Shaw replaced Anthony Anderson's Detective Kevin Bernad, and now there is a new vacancy at the 2-7 once again. Fans noticed Detective Shaw's quiet, minimal presence in the back-half of Season 24, with Detective Shaw not even in the crossover event with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Law & Order: Svu Season 26 officially came to an end with the creepiest episode, Post-Rage. Mariska Hargitay’s show has been renewed for a new season, but there is a major reshuffling happening in terms of the cast. While the show considers a new cast, we hope they include someone to replace an essential character.
As far as the show’s tradition goes, Olivia needs someone in the higher-ups to ruffle feathers with. This meant pushing back their political and other agendas, and debating how they would about a case. Season 26 lacked such a figure after the exit of Chief McGrath in one of the best episodes of Season 25.

"She is a formidable actress and an incredibly creative partner and has been such a joy and huge part of the fabric of Svu," she told Deadline. "I love her, and I love acting with her and co-creating with her, and it feels like home with her. So,I am ecstatic about her return."
Giddish departed the show halfway through Season 24 after her character, Detective Amanda Rollins, left the Special Victims Unit for a teaching career at Fordham University.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit wrapped up its twenty-sixth season only days ago — it has already been renewed for another run and is expected to return later this year. As previously reported, the new season will feature the return of fan-favorite Amanda Rollins, portrayed by Kelli Giddish, who exited as a series regular in Season 24 and has recurred since. Her anticipated return to Svu Season 27 will see her as a series regular once again, which co-star Mariska Hargitay recently reacted to, celebrating “an incredibly creative partner.”
Speaking to Deadline while discussing her new documentary, My Mom Jayne, about her mother, Jayne Mansfield, Hargitay, who portrays Captain Olivia Benson in Law & Order: Svu, didn't hesitate to voice her delight in Giddish’s return. She only had good words for her longtime friend, saying:

Kelli Giddish is coming back to “Law & Order: Svu” as a series regular in Season 27, Variety has confirmed.
Giddish originally joined “Svu” back in its 13th season as detective Amanda Rollins. She remained with the show as a main cast member until midway through Season 24. It was explained on the show that Rollins had married Ada Sonny Carisi Jr and then taken a teaching position.
She has made returns to the show since, however, first as a guest star in the Season 24 finale and popping up in episodes in both Season 25 and 26. This marks her return to full-time status with the series.
Giddish has also played Rollins in “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: Organized Crime” as well as fellow Dick Wolf shows “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago P.D.”
She is repped by Untitled Entertainment and Goodman Genow.
“Svu” was renewed for another season along with “Law & Order” earlier in May.

Kelli Giddish is returning to Law & Order: Svu as a series regular in season 27, according to Deadline, reprising her role as Sgt. Amanda Rollins. It's exciting news today for Svu and Kelli Giddish fans, who saw Giddish exit Svu full-time and be reduced to a recurring role beginning in season 24. However, Giddish will now return as a full-fledged member of the cast next season.
Giddish, who joined the Law & Order:svu cast in season 13 in the wake of Christopher Meloni's departure as series regular in season 12, portrayed Rollins as a series regular until the midpoint of season 24, when her character departed Svu to take a teaching job at Fordham University and was subsequently moved to recurring status. In season 26, it was revealed that Rollins had left academia and joined the NYPD's Intelligence Unit, explaining her absence from the show due to extensive traveling.

The long-running police procedural Law & Order: Svu scored a renewal for Season 27. Amid the good news, the NBC crime-fighting series has another good surprise.
After retiring in Season 24, Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) returned to the series in Seasons 25 and 26 as a guest star. Following her recent return, the longtime series must've thought about her time on the show, where she played the character in over 260 episodes on the main series. Per Deadline, Giddish is now officially making her way back to Law & Order: Svu as a series regular.
Despite massive cancellations for the 2025-2026 season, NBC bet again on one of its massive franchises: Law & Order. Both Dick Wolf series Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu scored a renewal, and will return for Season 25 and Season 27, respectively.

Welcome back, Sergeant Amanda Rollins! Kelli Giddish is going to once again be a series regular on Law & Order: Svu, for Season 27, airing in the fall on NBC, TV Insider has confirmed. (Deadline first reported it.) This news comes after Giddish has been recurring throughout Season 26. Giddish joined Svu in the Season 13 premiere and exited as a series regular during Season 24. Rollins and Carisi (Peter Scanavino) got married, then she left the NYPD and began teaching, where it was clear to everyone that she was very, very bored. She consulted on cases, returning for episodes that season as well as the following. But it was in Season 26 that she returned in a more heavily recurring role, with a new job: working in Intelligence and now a sergeant (she left Svu as a detective). “Rollins loves her new job. She says it’s like getting to eavesdrop on the whole world.

After two and a half years, Kelli Giddish is officially making a return to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as a series regular. Giddish's Amanda Rollins left mid-season 24, with the actress departing the show as a series regular. She'd made guest appearances over the last two and a half years, first returning as a friend, confidant, and professor and now as a sergeant with the intelligence division.
Deadline now confirms that Rollins will be back for the historic Season 27 as a series regular. There have been a series of shakeups ahead of the 27th Season. The series just lost two series regulars, Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano, as well as two executive producers: Julie Martin and Norberto Barba. What the show has gained, in addition to Giddish's return, is the first female showrunner in the series' history, with Michele Fazekas taking over as showrunner from David Graziano.

In one of the most talked about cast exits in Svu history — up there with original co-lead Christopher Meloni’s shocking 2011 departure — Giddish left as a series regular midway through Season 24 after Rollins married Ada Sonny Carisi Jr (Peter Scanavino) and left her Special Victims Unit detective job for a teaching career at Fordham University.
She never stayed away for long, returning in the Season 24 finale and appearing in two Season 25 episodes and five more this season. This will mark Giddish’s 15th season on the show overall.

It didn’t seem possible, especially given the budget cuts, but Law & Order: Svu Season 27 will finally bring Rollins back.
Rollins should never have been written out in the first place.
It’s been three long years and about a dozen guest appearances later, but Rollins will finally be back full-time.

Law & Order laid the groundwork for the Dick Wolf television world we all live in today. The franchise has been around since 1990, and incredibly, has managed to keep pace with the various Wolf shows that have followed in its wake. Part of the reason why is the franchise's ability to stage memorable and impressive crossover events.
Law & Order has made a point of setting up at least one crossover a season for the past few years, and 2025 is no exception in this regard. Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu will be joining forces for a two part event on Thursday, April 17 (Law & Order: Organized Crime will close out the block but not be connected in terms of story). It's a tried and true formula, but this crossover is going to be different from all the rest, according to franchise showrunner Rick Eid.

One of the greatest television spin-offs ever, which has since become the de facto flagship series for the "Law & Order" franchise, is "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." Commonly referred to simply as "Svu," the show focuses on police detectives investigating especially heinous crimes in and around New York City. Given the nature of their law enforcement specialization, the characters in "Svu" often face darker, more sexually oriented crimes than the other "Law & Order" shows. The series has gone on to become one of the longest-running scripted primetime television shows of all time, eventually exceeding its predecessor.
Running since 1999, "Svu" is an American television institution, and it has earned that distinction through excellently crafted characters and cases. Whether it's the fan-favorite duo of Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) or newer generations of detectives, "Svu" has maintained a steadily impressive level of quality. For those that are...
