Netflix has finally dropped the trailer for “The Politician” Season 2, just days before the new installment of the Ryan Murphy-created satire premieres. And the video, which you can view above, gives fans a taste of just how dirty Payton (Ben Platt) might have to get to compete against Judith Light’s Dede Standish in the race for New York state senate.

Aside from mudslinging, Payton and Dede are juggling bugging, moles and “sex pentagrams” inside their campaigns. And that appears to be the tip of the iceberg in what’s shaping up to be the wildest (fictional) NYC-based campaign ever.

Real-life politics might be plenty messy and scandalous, but they’ve apparently got nothing on what goes down in The Politician‘s second season.

Netflix on Monday released a full-length trailer for the satire’s sophomore run, which follows Ben Platt’s Payton Hobart as he challenges longtime incumbent Dede Standish (Transparent‘s Judith Light) for a seat in the New York State Senate. But just when it’s looking like an easy win for Payton — he does have proof that his opponent was in a throuple, after all — Dede and her chief of staff, Hadassah (Bette Midler), throw a few curveballs of their own.

We are just days away from the highly anticipated premiere of The Politician Season 2, and Netflix has rewarded fans with the first trailer.

Putting Ben Platt against Judith Light and Bette Midler is a stroke of genius, and something that the series will zero in on during Season 2.

Both sides are ready to make some big waves, and Platt's Payton thinks he managed to leave all the high school drama behind when his reputation imploded.

Unfortunately, Payton's new drive for success finds him trying to bully his way into power all over again, and Dede Standish (Light) and Hadassah Gold (Midler) stand in his way.

With blackmails coming out to play, it will be a wild ride to find out who manages to emerge with their integrity and reputation intact.

Netflix on Monday confirmed that Season 2 of The Politician will get underway Friday, June 19.

If the conclusion of The Politician Season 1 was any indication, Payton is switching things up.

“I feel super excited. Superficially, because I get to stay at home in New York and make the show here, which I’m very excited about (laughs),” Platt told TheWrap of the second season of Murphy’s show. In Netflix's new dark comedy-drama The Politician, Lucy Boynton steals the show as Astrid, the power-hungry "first lady" pulling the strings behind her boyfriend River, a candidate for class president in a bitter high school battle of words and wills. "It was such a quick audition," she told me and a group of other journalists at the Soho Hotel in London earlier this month. Like Leighton Meester’s doyenne of the Upper East Side, Payton surrounds himself with the finest things in life, including only the best, brightest, and most loyal political advisors. As Netflix is busy battling HBO on stage for Emmys supremacy, the streamer also released another trailer for its highly secretive “Breaking Bad” movie “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie,” which featured a familiar face.

Aaron Paul returns as Jesse Pinkman for the movie, which begins in the wake of his dramatic escape from captivity. Now, Jesse must come to terms with his past in order to forge some kind of future. “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan is also back in the director’s chair.

We were at the UK premiere of the show, and present these interviews here.

Attending the premiere were Ben Platt, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, and Laura Dreyfus. The cast and crew walked the red carpet at the Ham Yard Hotel in London for the premiere of the show, which hits our screens in eight hour-long episodes on Netflix on the 27th of September.

The drama series stars Ben Platt as Payton Hobart, “a wealthy student from Santa Barbara, California, who has known since age seven that he’s going to be President of the United States. Netflix has shared the first trailer for Ryan Murphy’s comedy series The Politician, and this series is set in the crazy and cutthroat world of high school politics. This obviously isn’t how high school politics really is, but the way it’s presented in this series certainly makes it a lot more interesting and entertaining! The trailer managed to get me interested enough to check it out when it’s released.

In today’s TV news roundup, Netflix has drops the first trailer for “The Politician,” and “Killing Eve” adds two to its cast for season 3.

Casting

Harriet Walter and Danny Sapani, both alums of “The Crown,” are set to join the cast of “Killing Eve” for its third season. British writer Suzanne Heathcote, whose past credits include “Fear the Walking Dead,” will also be joining the production team as lead writer and executive producer alongside Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Gina Mingacci, Damon Thomas, and star Sandra Oh. Production on season 3 is under way.

Bette Midler and Judith Light will guest star on “The Politician,” the first series Ryan Murphy will launch on Netflix after he inked a deal with the streamer last year.

Murphy made the announcement at the end of Saturday’s PaleyFest panel for his FX series “Pose,” and noted that Midler and Light will both appear in Seasons 1 and 2 of the upcoming political comedy. He also revealed that Janet Mock, a writer, director and co-executive producer on “Pose,” helmed an episode of the new show.

“The Politician” is the first series to debut on Netflix after the streaming service tapped the prolific “Glee” and “American Horror Story” creator for a five-year, $300 million deal in 2018. Outbidding several other companies, Netflix ordered two seasons of the show, with another series titled “Hollywood” on the way.

During the Pose panel at PaleyFest, Ryan Murphy revealed tons of news for the hit FX series and he also spilled some casting news about his forthcoming Netflix series The Politician. He announced that Bette Midler and Judith Light will be joining the cast and Pose writer and director Janet Mock will helm an episode.
