Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Has a Secret Connection to One of the Best Anime of the Past 10 Years
Image
Fans of My Hero Academia who have yet to check out Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man may want to load up Disney+. The Marvel Animation multiversal take on the wall-crawler boasts a surprising connection to the iconic shonen anime and manga.

Voice actor Kellen Goff, who anime enthusiasts would recognize as the voice of the chilling, calculating My Hero Academia baddie, Overhaul, stepped into the Marvel realm with a Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man role. Goff goes from voicing the villainous Overhaul to bringing the symbiote star, Venom, to life. Whether intentional or not, this exciting bit of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man casting created an exciting bridge between My Hero Academia and a Marvel legend. The connection flies under the radar for casual viewers but, for Mha fans, offers an interesting bit of trivia and an irresistible gateway into Marvel Animation.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Finally Solves The Superhero Origin Story Problem
Image
Spoilers ahead for "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" episode 1, "Amazing Fantasy."

"Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" faces the unenviable task of once again explaining how Spider-Man (voiced here by Hudson Thames) came to be. The webslinger's tragic origin has been revisited roughly as often as Batman's, so the fact that the show focuses on Peter Parker's early superhero days may have caused seasoned Marvel aficionados to roll their eyes in preemptive exasperation for having to sit through yet another radioactive spider bite and the death of Uncle Ben. Fortunately, "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" not only aces its version of the hero's origin story, but does it so well that its episode 1, "Amazing Fantasy," should be required viewing for all superhero showrunners.

After briefly introducing the main character as a chronically late teen who's about to start in a prestigious school, "Amazing Fantasy" gives viewers a gloriously efficient CliffsNotes version of his superhero...

The Marvel Heroes & Villains You Missed In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" episodes 1 and 2.

The alternate-universe Peter Parker (Hudson Thames) of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" lives in a world that has plenty of superheroes and villains, but there's a chance that viewers won't even realize just how many of them are running around on this version of Earth. The show practically throws Doctor Strange (Robin Atkin Downes) at its audience, while the alien Strange fights (Kellen Goff) is carrying a distinctly Venom-like symbiote. Likewise, Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo) and his son Harry (Zeno Robinson) both turn up with sartorial allusions to their respective Green Goblin personas. This universe's version of Curt "The Lizard" Connors, Dr. Connors (Zehra Fazal), is also quite recognizable from her signature lab coat and missing arm.

However, you may not have noticed that many seemingly inconspicuous civilians and supporting characters are also based on Marvel superheroes and villains. In fact,...

20 Best Fighting Anime of All Time
Image
Whether grounded or fantastical, the best fighting anime are always some of the medium's most compelling and engaging titles, drawing fans into heart-pumping spectacles where rivals can showcase their individual strengths and talents, as well as the ingenious strategies they may come up with in order to outsmart their opponents and emerge victorious in battle.

Even in the world of stories wherein fights play a central role, creators have a lot of freedom when it comes to the setting and features of the series. Some are more realistic, highlighting authentic fights that take place in boxing rings or martial arts dojos, while others opt for more creative settings, involving elements of magic and supernatural powers that allow the fights to be that much more dynamic and grandiose, taking the choreography to the next level.

Image
Funko Fusion offers light action-adventure gameplay embodying collectible vinyl figurine characters from popular franchises. The game features familiar environments, collectibles, and unique weapons for each character. Funko Fusion's combat is functional but basic, with a busy rambunctious style that contrasts with occasionally enigmatic quest objectives.

Upcoming action-adventure title Funko Fusion is a bright and busy grab bag of fan-first distractions thus far. The upcoming debut from studio 10:10 Games presents plentiful light action-adventure gameplay centered on the longstanding sensation of collectible vinyl figurines in general, and its license with NBCUniversal in particular. This means that players will be able to control characters and explore backdrops sourced from a rainbow of different properties, including The Walking Dead, Invincible, Jurassic Park, and films from Edgar Wrights Cornetto trilogy.

Screen Rant was able to test-drive elements from those last two in our preview, with a playable Funko Fusion experience that sets the premise...

The Five Nights At Freddy's Movie Finally Put A Bonnie Debate To Rest
Image
In Emma Tammi's new horror film "Five Nights at Freddy's," based on the popular video game series, a night watchman (Josh Hutcherson) is stalked through a disused, 1980s pizza restaurant/arcade called Freddy Fazbear's by the restaurant's animatronic animal band. By the all-too-complex mythology of the film, taken from the games, the animatronics have been brought to life by the souls of missing children, kidnapped and murdered by an evil stalker in a yellow bunny costume. It's best not to delve too deeply into the "FNaF" canon, as it gets very complicated very quickly. Focus on the fact that people are being stalked and killed by robotic Chuck E. Cheese-style pizza mascots, and you'll be on surer footing.

The Freddy Fazbear's band consists of the bear Freddy (Kevin Foster), the chicken Chica (Jessica Weiss), the red fox Foxy (voiced by Kellen Goff), and the blue rabbit Bonnie (Jade Kindar-Martin). Kindar-Martin,...

Samuel E. Wright at an event for The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning (2008)
Samuel E. Wright, best known for voicing Sebastian in “The Little Mermaid,” has died at 74. Although portraying the singing lobster in the beloved 1989 Disney film was Wright’s biggest claim to fame, he also appeared in numerous television shows and theatrical productions.

Wright’s hometown of Montgomery, New York shared the sad news in a Facebook post Tuesday, highlighting the actor’s impact on the community through both his performing arts conservatory and his own jubilant personality.

“Sam and his family have impacted countless Hudson Valley youth always inspiring them to reach higher and dig deeper to become the best version of themselves,” the post said, “On top of his passion for the arts and his love for his family, Sam was most known for walking into a room and simply providing Pure Joy to those he interacted with. He loved to entertain, he loved to make people smile and...

‘Playmobil: The Movie’ Blu-ray Review
Features the voices of: Anna Taylor-Joy, Gabriel Bateman, Dino Andrade, Ian James Corlett, Lino Disalvo, Ben Diskin, Jim Gaffigan, Kellen Goff, Wilson Gonzalez, Adam Lambert, Dan Navarro, Tito Ortiz, Daniel Radcliffe, Kenan Thompson | Written by Blaise Hemingway, Greg Erb, Jason Oremland | Directed by Lino Disalvo

[Note: With the film now out on DVD, Digital and Blu-ray, here's a reposting of our review of Playmobil: The Movie from its UK cinema release]

Playmobil: The Movie, directed by Lino Disalvo, is the latest feature film adaption of a pre-existing toy or product that is adapted to capitalise on for monetary gain. The world has already been gifted not one but two Lego Movie features as well as a double bill of Angry Birds films, and now it is time for Playmobil to try its hand at creating a franchise and try to stand tall amid other highly successful ventures.

The end result is a mixed venture that does not quite grasp nor understand what works within a feature film of this calibre.

My Hero Academia Season 4 Episode 2

“So then, who will be the next leader?”

The season premiere of My Hero Academia was bogged down with backstory and playing catch up, but it’s an episode that still looked exclusively at the heroes of this world. The heroes in this show are obviously the focus, but they only make up half of a very complex picture. “Overhaul” devotes some solid attention to the livelihood of the League of Villains following the defeat of All For One. In doing so, these first two episodes of the fourth season function as an effective whole that indicates the state of both the heroes and the villains.

Last week’s premiere was preoccupied with who All Might’s successor will be,...
