A First Date Gets Awkward When a Debate Over Eurocentrism in Food Arises in Werner Vivier’s ‘Fine Dining’
Image
Much like his previous short Walls Like Windows, writer/director Werner Vivier’s latest film Fine Dining is a cleverly constructed drama with subtle undertones of something more exploratory. It’s set during a first date where a couple are meeting at a spot to eat, but once the pleasantries are out of the way the subconscious racism at play, regarding the choice of restaurant, comes to the surface. What then transpires is a debate around the Eurocentric nature of food culture, particularly regarding the concept of high-quality dining. It’s a really interesting piece told through a singular wide shot that zooms in and out of the conversation as it unfolds, creating a tense, voyeuristic effect. Dn is excited to premiere Fine Dining in conjunction with a conversation with Vivier, where he talks through the precise visual language he wanted the film to have, how his team overcame a...

Harrison Ford's Pants In Captain America 4 Set Photo Fuel Red Hulk Speculation
Image
A new Captain America: Brave New World set photo has turned into speculation about Harrison Ford appearing as the Red Hulk in the film, all due to the actor's pants. Ford will play MCU veteran Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Brave New World, taking over the role from the late William Hurt, who originated the character in 2008's The Incredible Hulk. Captain America: Brave New World focuses on Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson, and the first set photo featuring Mackie and Ford has caused a stir on social media.

On Twitter, multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have begun speculating that the new Captain America: Brave New World set photo used to announce the movie's title change — from Captain America: New World Order — includes a tease that Ford will be appearing as the Red Hulk next year. In the set photo, Ford can be seen wearing damaged pants, as if Ross...

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ First Reactions Range From ‘Easily the Best’ to ‘Strangely Uneven’
Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Maria Bakalova in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” held preview screenings and had its Hollywood premiere on Thursday, and that means the reactions are pouring in.

And it’s a given that so far, those who saw it tonight mostly loved it. Attendees in screenings on the east coast or in the central time zones got out first — as we write this, the Hollywood premiere screening is currently about halfway through — so we’ll start with them.

Film critic Bob Chipman calls it “easily the best of the trilogy and a top 5 Marvel Movie,” and he also posits that director James Gunn’s new bosses at Warner. Bros. have to be happy with that decision after seeing this.

Writer Mike Ryan said Gunn “bet the house” on the film, “and won,” and praised how it exists as a sci-fi action film as opposed to another Super Hero joint.

But there was some rumblings of dissent.
