This July, Netflix is starting the fireworks early. Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro's 2013 monsters vs. robots blockbuster, is coming to the streaming service. Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Rinko Kikuchi star in the science fiction extravaganza, which grossed over $400 million Usd from the global box office. Pacific Rim will be available to stream on Netflix starting on July 1. It joins Pacific Rim: The Black, a Netflix-original animated series that is also available to watch on the streamer.
Pacific Rim came about in the wake of another project collapsing: del Toro's long-dreamed-of adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness. The film was penned by del Toro and Travis Beacham, and was conceptualized as a loving homage to mecha anime and kaiju movies. The film, which bore a $190 million budget, was filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; it was del Toro's first film produced there, and it has subsequently become his home base.

Brad Pitt’s Royal Connection to Queen Elizabeth(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Hollywood A-lister Brad Pitt is a royalty after all — no, not just in Hollywood! Turns out, he’s got a legit royal connection that takes us all the way back to medieval England. Yes, to the King Henry II himself.
First off, Pitt and Queen Elizabeth II were 25th cousins. And that’s how they share a common ancestor—Henry II of England. As per reports by Business Insider, Pitt and the late Queen are 25th cousins, twice removed. This places the actor in a royal lineage dating back to the 12th century. King Henry II was the first Plantagenet king. He ruled from 1154 to 1189 in the 12th century.
He held titles like Duke of Normandy, Count of Anjou, and Duke of Aquitaine. His reign was marked by consequential political and legal reforms. Henry II is often credited with...

You can expect anything from Wei Shujun, the Chinese helmer behind the hypnotizing noir “Only The River Flows” (2023), and the wicked dramedy about the preparations for a film shooting – “Ripples of Life” (2021). He has already proved that each of his projects is unique and incomparable to others. “I Dreamed A Dream” which screens in the Harbour programme of IFFR, a deadpan docu-fiction about five rappers who were invited to participate in a film shoot on an exotic island without the slightest idea what the whole gig is all about, seals that verdict.
I Dreamed A Dream is screening at International Film Festival Rotterdam
Summoned to join the project that is supposed to boost their careers and bring them some financial gain, nothing goes the way the young musicians were expecting. The filmmaker who goes by the name of Godod is absent, and his assistant supervises them. He is their proper shadow,...

Since its creation nearly a century ago, the Oscars has seen many talented actors receive nominations across the Academy's different acting categories. The Oscars are recognized as the most coveted awards in the movie industry. Since its first award ceremony in 1929, many actors have had the honor of winning the Oscar for their acting abilities in various acclaimed movies.
The Academy has four different categories where a person's acting abilities are recognized: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Dozens of actors, such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert Downey Jr, received several nominations before ever winning an Oscar. Others have a mix of nominations and wins between all four of the available categories.

Raleigh Becket, the key protagonist of Pacific Rim, meets a tragic end from cancer in the sequel's prequel novel. Connection to toxic Kaiju world leads Raleigh to a battle with cancer, ending his life post-Pacific Rim. The movie sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising, doesn't explain Raleigh's absence, leaving room for a potential Charlie Hunnam return in a future installment.
Raleigh Becket is the key protagonist in Pacific Rim, and yet he is nowhere to be seen in the 2018 sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising. The Pacific Rim timeline expands out from the original 2013 movie and, despite taking place in the same universe, characters rarely reappear. The original Pacific Rim covers the events of the first appearance of Kaiju from the interdimensional portal and ends with the destruction of that rift. Pacific Rim 2 follows closely behind with the reveal that the monster gate was not entirely destroyed.

Sensitive subject matter will be discussed. Proceed with caution.
The Academy Awards ceremony is one of the most publicized events in the entertainment industry. Every year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards Oscars to the most deserving movies and filmmakers. Ideally, the winners garner admiration and respect from onlookers. More often than not, though, the opposite occurs.
At times, this is because the Oscar winners failed to accurately reflect the mores of the times they were made in. Innovation often breeds controversy, and the Oscars are notorious for going with safe, "respectable" choices while ignoring better films that push the boundaries further. Other times, they're dismissed as elitist or even pretentious, since they cater more to perceived gatekeepers than ordinary moviegoers. The snubbing of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight for 2008's Best Picture race is a notable example. Despite the filmmakers' best intentions, some Oscar victors don't hold up under closer scrutiny.

The historical epic “Becket” is turning 60 this week. When it was released, “Becket” was considered Important. It was a huge and handsome production with sumptuous sets and costumes and a cast seemingly of thousands. And it featured two of the top and sexiest stars of the day – Peter O’Toole, fresh from his Oscar-nominated triumph in 1962’s “Lawrence of Arabia” and Richard Burton whose career had been overshadowed with his high-profile love affair with Elizabeth Taylor that began during the production of the infamous 1963 “Cleopatra.”
Set in the 12th century England, “Becket” revolves around the relationship between the hedonistic King Henry II (O’Toole), who never met a wench he didn’t bed, and Thomas Becket, his loyal friend and wingman for Henry’s sexual escapades. And because the Production Code was still in force, the film can only imply that Henry is in love with Becket. Henry makes Becket his...

In 2019, rumors circulated that Shia Labeouf and Mel Gibson would be featured in a new movie about the affluent Ashkenazi Jewish noble banking Rothschild family. The project, which was said to delve into the mysterious and secretive world of one of the wealthiest families in history, was met with excitement by fans.
However, since the initial announcement, there have been few or no updates regarding the status of the film, causing many to wonder: What happened to Gibson’s Rothschild movie? The project was supposed to be helmed by Tetris director Jon S. Baird.
Mel Gibson in the John Wick spin-off, The Continental
Speculation has been rife concerning the causes of the apparent delay or possible demise of the project. The movie’s title and subject matter caused controversy then, and Gibson was forced to deny any link between Rothchild and the wealthy Jewish banking dynasty of the same name.

Tom Hanks' role in Philadelphia opened doors for him as a dramatic actor and proved his versatility beyond romantic comedies. Hanks' powerful performance as a man with AIDS challenged societal norms and sparked conversation around the topics of homosexuality and HIV/AIDS in the 1990s. Philadelphia remains one of Hanks' best movie performances, earning him his first Oscar and making a significant impact in raising awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS.
Tom Hanks has proven that he is up to just about any role, and this started with the $206 million box office hit Philadelphia. Today, it's difficult to imagine a time in which Hanks' star power didn't qualify him for just about any film, but like any other actor in Hollywood, there was a time when he was a complete newcomer. Director Guillermo del Toro initially set his sights on Hollywood legend Tom Cruise to star in his 2013 action blockbuster Pacific Rim.
Speaking to Collider, del Toro elaborated on how Cruise's iconic 1986 action-drama, Top Gun, served as one of the key inspirations for Pacific Rim. The filmmaker wanted to pay homage to this by having Cruise as Marshal Stacker Pentecost. "The two models for Pacific Rim, the two models for the screenplay, are Hoosiers with Gene Hackman and Top Gun," del Toro explained. "So, the part that Idris Elba plays, Tom Cruise was gonna do it, and I even had a karaoke [scene]."

Over a quarter of a century ago, Doctor Who closed its doors, and the studios stopped filming science fiction for the most part. Stuck in the vast wasteland of the 80s in America, science fiction enthusiasts were left to wander the entertainment desert with stand-ins like Knight Rider pretending to be science fiction.
Luckily, Quantum Leap's Sam Becket jumped out of the project accelerator and into fans' lives. Yet the original Quantum Leap suffered from many issues – the main issue being relatively low viewer participation. The show couldn't get the views (as they say), and that inevitably led to its cancelation. Now, we'll take a glance at the new Quantum Leap continuation and what they're finally getting right.

What could be more interesting than traveling in time? Time travel in popular science fiction as well as theoretical physics, has fascinated many sci-fi fans for decades. Yet recently, enthusiasts may notice that when watching television, glancing at the newsstand, or hitting the local comic shop, time travel fiction has increased.
It's likely that if someone asked a fan to name a show dealing with time travel, the most popular to materialize to mind would be a certain decades-old British show. It's time to think outside the blue box and take a Quantum Leap.
A Different Interpretation
Quantum Leap was the brainchild of Donald P. Bellisario and premiered in March 1989 to a moderate viewing demographic at best (something that never changed). At the time Quantum Leap emerged, Doctor Who was formally off the air (and it would be for over another decade).
Quantum Leap filled a very specific need among fans.

Emilia Clarke is one of the greatest queens of popular franchises. While she was still one of the most relevant protagonists of Game of Thrones playing Daenerys Targaryen, the actress tried her hand at science fiction and joined the Star Wars universe in the Han Solo prequel movie, where she gave life to Qi'ra.
But that was not enough, and some time after closing Khaleesi's story, the actress announced that she was going to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Secret Invasion series. Actors play a lot of roles, but it is rare for the same actor to play the same character in two entirely different movies. However, it is incredibly fun when this does happen, as it allows an actor to show what a character would act like under different direction and in different circumstances as part of a different story. Sometimes actors reprise roles for cameos, and other times actors again fill the main role in a different film. Either way, an actor playing the same role in an entirely different movie is always interesting, and here are the 10 best examples of this occurring.
Even when utilizing the same historical figure, movies sometimes use a different actor in order to differentiate themselves from predecessors. However, sometimes an actor is so good in a role that they just have to be used again, with them returning for entirely different films. Other times,...

(Welcome to Did They Get It Right?, a series where we take a look at an Oscars category from yesteryear and examine whether the Academy's winner stands the test of time.)
Last week, I went through the eight Academy Award nominations of Glenn Close to examine why the renowned actor has yet to win even a single Oscar in her career. She holds the record for the actor with the most nominations in history without winning, but she doesn't hold that record alone. She shares it with someone I think is safe to call a legend: Peter O'Toole. The British thespian of stage and screen who became an instantaneous movie star in 1962 with the release of "Lawrence of Arabia" was also nominated eight times over the course of his career and never won, and because he died back in 2013, the chance to win is obviously gone, whereas Close still could.

It is fair to assume Criterion could plunder the world of licensed film to build an ultimate noir playlist; credit, then, for focusing sharp and nabbing deep cuts. The Criterion Channel’s November / Noirvember program will be headlined by “Fox Noir,” an eight-title program with Otto Preminger deep cut Fallen Angel, three by Henry Hathaway, Siodmak, Dassin, Kazan, and Robert Wise, and while retrospectives of Veronica Lake and John Garfield will bring some canon into the fold, I’m mostly thinking about that potential for discovery.
