August 2025 is going to give anime fans everything they have ever wanted. Okay, not everything, but there’s a lot of new anime to look out for as Hulu has added four major titles to its catalog. There’s romance in The Dangers in My Heart, slice-of-life drama in Farming Life in Another World, idol drama in Oshi No Ko, and supernatural thriller in Call of the Night to check out.

These four titles reflect Hulu’s expanding anime strategy as they have brought in high-demand shows in subbed and dubbed formats for a wide audience. So, whether you are looking to watch season 2 of Oshi no Ko or just looking to check out a dark supernatural drama, there’s something for everyone to watch in August 2025.

Summer 2025 is shaping up to be a great one for anime fans Stateside. Recently, U.S.-based streaming service Hulu confirmed its acquisition of four additional anime titles that were previously available exclusively on AMC Networks' Hidive.

Per Hulu, the platform will begin streaming Seasons 1 and 2 of Shin-Ei Animation's hit romance anime, The Dangers in My Heart, starting Aug. 14. Call of the Night and Farming Life in Another World will join Hulu's summer anime lineup on Aug. 21. Additionally, Hulu has also acquired Season 2 of Oshi no Ko, giving subscribers long-awaited access to the second half of Doga Kobo's hit idol drama. Each of the aforementioned works will be available with both English and Japanese-language options upon release.

Considering that the Korean movie industry is facing intense problems, with the majority of titles of quality actually being shorts lately, the programmers of Bifan opted for the ideal solution. They picked a number of shorts for their program and invested heavily on Japanese movies, whose industry seem to be in a rather good place lately. Animated feature ChaO is will open Japan Cuts: Festival of New Japanese Film on July 10 in New York.

Fresh from its world premiere at the Annecy festival and ahead of its Japanese theatrical release in August, ChaO will be the Opening Night film for Japan Cuts.

ChaO is produced by Japanese animation outfit Studio 4ºC and presented in partnership with Gkids.

Studio 4ºC was founded in 1986 and has produced titles like Mind Game and Tekkonkinkreet, and also co-produced ThunderCats with Warner Bros. Animation.

Japan Cuts, North America’s largest festival of contemporary Japanese cinema, will mark its 18th edition this year and run from July 10 to 20.

Directed by Yasuhiro Aoki, ChaO is a hand-drawn cyberpunk fairy tale set in near-future Shanghai where humans coexist with mermen.

The film follows Stephan, a regular office worker at a shipbuilding company, who is suddenly proposed to by Chao – a princess from the mermaid kingdom.

The Fantasia International Film Festival will celebrate its upcoming 29th edition with an electrifying program of screenings, workshops, and launch events running from July 16 through August 3, 2025, returning to the Concordia Hall and J.A. de Sève cinemas, with additional screenings and events at Montreal’s Cinéma du Musée. A lot of anime series have trouble establishing their identity at first. In a space dominated by iconic series like Dragon Ball, Ranma 1/2, Sailor Moon, and Chainsaw Man, it can be hard for any new series to stand apart from its contemporaries. Many anime enthusiasts will drop a series if it doesn't grab them by the first three episodes, especially with the inundation of seasonal releases available on platforms like Netflix and Crunchyroll. However, there are plenty of instances where this patience is rewarded.

The 48th annual Japan Academy Film Prizes, also known as Japan Academy Awards, has revealed its nominees for Excellent Animation Award on Jan 21, 2025, with Look Back, Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, and 3 other anime films among the contenders.

Akin to the manga, the film is set in the early 20th century and follows a Russo-Japanese War hero who sets on a quest to find a treasure hidden in the Hokkaido region of Japan.

The film hit the Japan theaters on January 19th, 2024, opening at the first spot at the box office. Ever since, worldwide audiences have been waiting for its release in the international markets. The wait is almost over, as Golden Kamuy will be streaming on Netflix soon.

Golden Kamuy Streaming Release Date

Golden Kamuy is going to premiere on Netflix on Sunday, May 19th, 2024, exactly four months after its Japanese release.

The official YouTube channel of Netflix Asia started streaming a brand new trailer for Golden Kamuy live-action film on April 24, 2024, ahead of its worldwide release.

The trailer revealed that the live-action film will be available to stream on Netflix worldwide starting May 19, 2024.

In a new trailer uploaded by Netflix Asia, the live-action Golden Kamuy movie will make its international premiere on Netflix on May 19, four months after its initial Japanese release. The film is based on the Weekly Young Jump series by Japanese manga artist Satoru Noda. Shigeaki Kubo is the live-action film director, with Tsutomu Kuroiwa in the writer's chair and Yutaka Yamada as the movie composer. Hiroshi Nakagawa and Deko Akibe are credited for the film's Ainu supervision, while Credeus is listed as the production company. The new trailer can be seen below, along with stills from the movie.

The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Satoru Noda’s Golden Kamuy had its opening day stage greeting on Jan 19, 2024, at Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills in Tokyo.

The cast, including Hiroshi Tamaki, Asuka Kudo, Shuntaro Yanagi, and Ryohei Otani shared their behind-the-scenes experiences and shed light on the challenges encountered during filming.

Since Golden Kamuy is set in the late Meiji era in Hokkaido, revolving around a battle for a substantial Ainu treasure, the filmmakers took on the challenge of capturing the authentic winter atmosphere of Hokkaido, leading to extreme conditions during the shoot.

A recent press conference held to commemorate the completion of the Golden Kamuy live-action film unveiled a heartfelt message from the manga creator, Satoru Noda, who shared his thoughts on the film after attending its premiere.

In the message Noda revealed the initial worry he harboured deep down on how his vision for Golden Kamuy would translate onto the big screen. However, after attending the preview, he shared a sense of relief, indicating that the movie had surpassed his expectations.

According to the author, the movie featured many aspects he hadn’t even envisioned.

He then went on to praise the actors for their portrayal of characters, describing them as ‘cool, mature, cute, and well-suited’ to their respective roles. He noted that their appeal brought a unique liveliness to the characters, distinct from the manga.

Noda ended the message by encouraging the fans to watch Golden Kamuy live action film.

The American Film Market kicks off Oct. 31 and runs through Nov. 5 in its new headquarters at the Le Meridien Delfina in Santa Monica. Industry screenings are set at theaters throughout the city and AFM’s conference series, the AFM Sessions, will take place at the Hilton Santa Monica Hotel. More than 245 companies and organizations are exhibiting at this year’s AFM, with national pavilions from China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Thailand and the U.K. In all, buyers from more than 65 countries are registered at the film market.
