At the end of last week, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) seemed to wrap things up a little too neatly. He took Lady Vengeance (Krysten Ritter) off the board without drawing suspicion, seemingly clearing Harrison (Jack Alcott) in the process. But as we’ve learned, nothing is as easy as it seems.

If you were ‘shipping Dexter and Mia’s budding relationship — whether as romantic partners or strictly as murderous colleagues — brace yourself for impact.
Friday’s episode of Dexter: Resurrection pushes the Dexter/Mia narrative even further, with Mia suggesting something wild: a ménage-à-trois. Only she doesn’t mean in the bedroom. She wants to collaborate with the Dark Passenger on a kill. Dexter is immediately on guard and cautious about the idea, while Harry is understandably against it. There’s also the fact that if Dexter was to ever reveal his true identity to Mia, she could tell Prater and all hell could break loose.

This post contains spoilers from Dexter: Resurrection season 1 episode 3 from this point forward.
After a two-episode premiere that picked up where we left off and introduced the new stakes, this week’s episode feels more like a return to form for what we’ve come to expect from the series. This installment, “Backseat Driver,” finds both Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and Harrison (Jack Alcott) continuing along their path. Let’s dive into those paths!
Catching the Dark Passenger
While Dexter originally arrived in New York City to watch over and even aide Harrison, they’ve yet to make contact. Instead, he got sidetracked by his own mission to stop a killer known as the Dark Passenger, who is preying upon ride share drivers. Dexter is sparked to action not only by his calling, but his frustration that a killer has snatched his name.
That led to him taking a job as a ride share driver.

“Talk about a killer debut,” nine out of 10 news stories on this topic will begin.
The Dexter: Resurrection premiere drew 3.1 million global cross-platform viewers in its first three days, representing a 46% larger audience than what the Dexter: Original Sin prequel series opened to last December.
The return of grown-up Dexter also delivered the most-streamed premiere in Showtime history, putting up 44% bigger numbers than Original Sin, and marking a 76% improvement on Dexter: New Blood (circa November 2021).
TVLine readers gave the premiere an average grade of “A”; get Michael C. Hall’s take on the surprise cameos and see what Jack Alcott (who plays Harrison) said about the season’s gruesome first kill.
“Dexter: Resurrection delivered an electrifying performance that not only rekindled a fiercely devoted fanbase but also captivated a new generation of viewers — shattering records with Showtime’s most-streamed premiere ever,” Chris McCarthy, President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, said in a statement. “This triumph underscores the lasting impact of this iconic franchise, brought to life by Michael C. Hall’s unparalleled portrayal and [showrunner] Clyde Phillips’ visionary creative leadership.”
A continuation of New Blood, Resurrection takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan (played by Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City determined to find him and make things right.
Closure, though, won’t come easy. “When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast,” the series synopsis reads. “As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined – and that the only way out is together.”
Dexter: Resurrection also stars Uma Thurman as Charley, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera, James Remar as Dexter’s father Harry, and Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater. Guest stars include Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet and David Dastmalchian, as Lowell, Mia, Al and Gareth.

Dexter Morgan's story is not over. The original Dexter series premiered in 2006 and ran for eight seasons until 2013, and its popularity led to a full franchise that includes multiple sequel series and a prequel.
MGM+ has just debuted the second sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection. The series takes place merely weeks after the previous sequel series, Dexter: New Blood, and tackles the events after Dexter's son Harrison left his father for dead. After debuting with a perfect score, Dexter: Resurrection didn't need much to enter the charts immediately after its premiere, FlixPatrol reports.
Dexter: Resurrection debuted on Friday, Jul. 11, and it immediately entered the charts the same day. It debuted in seventh place in the U.S., and has already entered the charts in different territories, taking over the sixth spot in Paramount+'s Top 10 global charts.
The show's popularity was evident while the original series aired on Showtime.

Dexter Morgan is alive and, mostly, well. The energy of his resurrection was palpable on the carpet of the “Dexter: Resurrection” world premiere Wednesday night in New York City’s Alice Tully Hall.
The latest installation of the “Dexter” universe follows Dexter Morgan, reprised by the original actor Michael C. Hall, who has essentially come back to life after being shot in the chest by his son Harrison and announced dead. That is until Hall decided he was ready to come back for more.
“Michael Hall came to me and said, ‘Can you figure out how to unkill me?’” Phillips told Variety. “I put a lot of thought into it and called Scott Reynolds, my top writer, and we Zoomed for about a week. And we figured out how to do it.”

Showtime’s Dexter enjoyed several rich seasons before bleeding out slowly in a final run that crawled toward an unsatisfying conclusion. Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) was dredged up, eight years later, for Dexter: New Blood, which traded bloody beachside fun for a grim, cold adventure without much of a pulse. Despite the fact that New Blood’s finale saw him shot at close range with a hunting rifle right in the chest, Dexter just won’t die.
Dexter: Resurrection begins by hurriedly explaining how Dexter has evaded both death and the murder charges he was facing at the end of New Blood. The answers given are all implausible—apparently getting shot in the heart isn’t too big a deal so long as it’s cold out—but they’re functional enough, allowing the series to quickly get Dexter back on his feet.

Jessica Jones. Viewers haven't seen the character since Season 3 of her solo Netflix series, when she resolved to keep up her heroic work, even though her foes had been dealt with and the show had been canceled. While plot details have been kept under wraps about her return to crime-fighting next year, Ritter has finally been able to open up about what to expect from her character after so many years away. Speaking to Collider's Tania Hussain for Dexter: Resurrection, the actress hinted at a Jessica Jones renaissance that will bring action and layered storytelling alike to the Devil of Hell's Kitchen's Sophomore MCU outing.

Dexter’s showrunner and executive producer, Clyde Phillips, has great news about another franchise spin-off, which is centered on one of the show's greatest villains. The Trinity Killer is that villain, portrayed by the iconic John Lithgow, who was introduced in Season 4 of the original Showtime series. Lithgow is expected to return in some capacityin the new spin-off, but it remains unclear when the show will be set since the killer murdered people for decades. Nevertheless, Phillips, who now oversees the new Dexter franchise, recently revealed the status of the Trinity Killer spin-off, giving fans hope about its progress.
During a panel at Ccxp Mexico (via Reddit user TheSystolicGem), Phillips confirmed that all ten episodes of the Trinity Killer project have been written, but they have yet to be given the green light to go into production. While this may not be what fans expected to hear, it’s still...

Dexter's series finale was widely considered a disappointment, and while Dexter: New Blood set out to make things right in 2021, it too proved a little hit-and-miss.
Fans didn't want to see Dexter Morgan die, and plans for a follow-up revolving around his son, Harrison (with Dexter likely taking on a role similar to Harry's in the original show), were scrapped. After last year's prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, Dex rises from the dead in Dexter: Resurrection.
The first trailer has been released (via FearHQ.com), and we see Batista questioning Dexter about being the Bay Harbor Butcher. The serial killer escapes and heads to New York, where Harrison also now resides. As Batista attempts to help steer him away from heading down the same dark path as his father, Dexter meets with a group of serial killers...who we're sure he'll eventually kill one by one!

For eight seasons and 96 episodes, from 2006 to 2013, the series Dexter ran on Showtime, telling the story of Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who is also a vigilante serial killer. Dexter: Resurrection is a continuation of the first sequel series, Dexter: New Blood, and picks up immediately where that 2021 series left off, with Dexter surviving being shot by his son,...
