It Follows Star Daniel Zovatto Looks Back on the Film 10 Years Later
Image
Daniel Zovatto stars as serial killer Rodney Alcala as he hunts down unsuspecting women in the new Netflix film, Woman of the Hour. With long hippy hair and slightly more weight on him, it's a far cry from his role in the film that arguably opened the doors of Hollywood to him a decade ago, It Follows. In that film, a very different killer stalked its prey a ghostly, unseen force that followed and tormented a person after they had sex with the last infected victim. Speaking to MovieWeb about Woman of the Hour, Zovatto took time on the 10th anniversary of It Follows to look back on the film.

"I'm so grateful of It Follows," said Zovatto. "It honestly, you know, it started everything for me. And David Robert Mitchell is a great director. It Follows was a great experience. I made a lot of good friends in that movie.

It Follows 2 Star Teases 'Darker' & 'More F*cked Up' Horror Sequel
Image
It Follows sequel will be bigger, darker, and more twisted with Maika Monroe excited for her role. Although filming has not started yet, Monroe promises fans will receive more details on They Follow soon, hinting at a challenging and fulfilling experience.

It Follows star Maika Monroe has teased the intent of the surprise sequel, They Follow, calling the follow-up bigger, darker, and more f*cked up. Discussing the horror project with Collider, Monroe heaped praise on writer and director David Robert Mitchell, and assured fans of the original that he would never return for more if he didnt think itd be worth it.

But as you know with the first film, I'm not taking any credit in this, David is brilliant. I mean, he is brilliant. The whole movie transformed at that point.

‘It Follows’ Blu-ray Review
Stars: Maika Monroe, Keir Gilchrist, Olivia Luccardi, Lili Sepe, Daniel Zovatto, Jake Weary, Linda Boston, Ruby Harris, Bailey Spry, Debbie Williams | Written and Directed by David Robert Mitchell

Horror is at its most affective when it takes real world situations and inserts the strange and unnatural into them. When that subtle little oddity stands out to the camera, suddenly nothing is safe and everything can be a danger. This is exactly why It Follows is one of the best horrors you’ll see this year.

When Jay (Maika Monroe) goes out on a date, everything seems fine until she finds herself tied to a chair and unable to move. As he tells her of a creature that is going to start following her, at first she doesn’t believe him, until she starts to notice its presence everywhere she goes. Often somebody she knows, or somebody odd enough to stand...

It Follows: A Homecoming for '80s Horror
David Crow Oct 22, 2018

When leaving It Follows, you will not know exactly when it was set, but you'll realize where it is: John Carpenter's backyard.

This article contains mild It Follows spoilers.

From the opening frame of It Follows, you know exactly where you are. Wide, listless shots of a quiet suburban neighborhood populated by frantic teens and oblivious parents. Even if viewers can't yet see the film’s unnamed boogeyman, this unspoken It, they can feel its labored, deliberate, and ceaseless shuffle, marching a helpless victim (Bailey Spry) towards oblivion. All that’s missing in the panoramic 360-degree shot is a night-lit rainfall and a windswept castle. But perhaps, that is why this is so much more effective.

A fun exercise moviegoers will have after leaving It Follows’ dreamlike grasp—besides looking over a shoulder—is to take a moment and try to figure out when the film is set.

‘It Follows’ Review
Stars: Maika Monroe, Keir Gilchrist, Olivia Luccardi, Lili Sepe, Daniel Zovatto, Jake Weary, Linda Boston, Ruby Harris, Bailey Spry, Debbie Williams | Written and Directed by David Robert Mitchell

Over the last few months we have been spoilt for choice when it comes to interesting indie genre fare. The Guest, Predestination, The Babadook and Coherence all seem to have chimed with the very particular audiences they attract and David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows seems to be treading the same path. Debuting at Sundance last year, the film has built up a head of steam since and along with the aforementioned Babadook, it has been rather difficult to escape it on film related social media for the last little while. On the basis of the film itself, this is hard to understand.

The concept behind It Follows carries on the strong throughline of horror in having a threat metaphorically represent a...

New Trailer For It Follows
David Robert Mitchell attends the 'The Myth of the American Sleepover' Photo Call held at the Martini Terraza during the 63rd Annual International Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2010 in Cannes, France.
UK scare fans awaiting the terrifying times promised by David Robert Mitchell’s Cannes horror sensation It Follows only have to be patient a little while longer, as the film finally hits these shores next month. The new, slightly longer trailer has arrived to haunt the web.Beginning with footage that feels like a remixed version of the teaser we premiered exclusively last month, the new trailer takes viewers a little more deeply into the story, while still managing to leave much of what’s happening to the imagination. The Guest’s Maika Monroe is back in peril as Jay, a 19 year-old who has long romanticised the idea of love, relationships and sex. But now that she’s finally exploring such issues, she discovers something terrible. And soon enough she suspects – no, knows – that something malevolent is following her. She and her friends team up to get to the bottom of the threat,...
