Hannah Waddingham Says She "Always Struggled" With Her Height Before "Ted Lasso"
Image
Hannah Waddingham is sharing the powerful impact "Ted Lasso" - and its unique brand of magic - had on her acting career. Following the series finale on May 31, the actor appeared on "The View" on June 15 and spoke about how the feel-good series helped her overcome one of her greatest insecurities as an actor: her height.

"Being a woman who's not small, very tall, I had always struggled," said Waddingham, who is 5'11". She went on to explain how her stature has always been a disadvantage since she began her acting career in the early 2000s. Waddingham even recalled being turned down on more than one occasion because her male costar would have been shorter than her. When it came to booking her spot on "Ted Lasso," however, Waddingham was shocked that her costar Jason Sudeikis was not threatened by her height.

"Jason was like, 'I don't care if she wears four-inch heels.

Sweden’s Loreen Takes Top Prize In Eurovision 2023 For Second Time
Image
Swedish singer Loreen was named the winner of Eurovision 2023 for her pop anthem “Tattoo,” triumphing over 25 other nations in the finals on Saturday night.

This is her second time winning the contest, first earning the top prize for Sweden in 2012. She joins Ireland’s Johnny Logan, who won in 1980 and 1987, as a two-time winner. Sweden also has the joint amount of wins in the contest with Ireland at seven victories each.

In honor of Ukraine, Eurovision’s theme for this year was “united by music.” The event took place in Liverpool, England. Typically, the competition’s host country is the winner from the previous year, but since last year’s winner, Ukraine, is at war, the 2022 runner-up Britain hosted this year’s contest.

Loreen performed her song between two moving platforms, dancing around the stage while singing the chorus, “You’re stuck on me like a tattoo-hoo-hoo.

Swedish singer Loreen wins Eurovision for the second time since 2012
Image
London, May 14 (Ians) Swedish contestant Loreen came first with her song ‘Tattoo’ at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, beating out 25 other countries to garner 583 points, reports ‘Variety’.

Loreen’s win means the contest will likely be held in Sweden next year. Traditionally the winning country hosts the following year’s contest. Sweden was followed by Finland’s Kaarija with 526 points and Israel’s Noa Kirel with 362 points, who took second and third place respectively, ‘Variety’ adds.

It is Loreen’s second Eurovision win: she previously won the contest in 2012 with her song ‘Euphoria’.

Eurovision, which is run by the European Broadcasting Union (Ebu), features musical acts from around Europe as well as a number of countries outside it, including Israel and Australia, who participate by virtue of their membership of the Ebu, ‘Variety’ notes.

This year’s Eurovision took place in Liverpool, UK, on behalf of last year’s winner Ukraine...

Showbiz Muffles War, Familiarity Trumps Novelty in ‘Eurovision Song Contest 2023’: TV Review
Image
The theme of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, ‘United by Music,’ announced both the annual musical extravaganza’s all-embracing intentions and its status as a joint endeavor. With 2022 winners Ukraine unable to host in Kyiv due to the war, the U.K. – last year’s runners-up, thanks to Sam Ryder’s soaring “Space Man” – stepped in to reinstall this ever more spectacular circus (along with multiple Ukrainian creative personnel) in Liverpool, birthplace of the Beatles. A declaration that this was to be the glitziest of collabs was served via a prologue that paired Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra, reworking last year’s winning entry “Stefania”, with the Princess of Wales, apparently providing piano accompaniment from within Windsor Castle. Soft power-a-go-go.

There was no President Zelenskyy address – ruled unduly political by the Eurovision mandarins, a decision that felt questionable even before Ukraine’s 2023 entry, Tvorchi’s “Heart of Steel,” implored “don’t...

Eurovision 2023 Final: Sweden’s Loreen Makes History in Stunning Fashion
Image
It’s two minutes into the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 and I already have chills. I’m watching something a lot of British people thought we’d never see: a Eurovision hosted in the U.K. After years of abysmal performances and frustration, the U.K. finally changed the narrative last year, finishing in second place behind Ukraine. Because of Russia’s invasion of their country, Ukraine is unable to host, so the northern English city of Liverpool has stepped up to host on their behalf. The show was opened by Kalush Orchestra,...

Sweden Wins Eurovision Song Contest 2023

Sweden has won the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

Swedish contestant Loreen came first with her song “Tattoo,” beating out 25 other countries to garner 583 points. Her win means the contest will likely be held in Sweden next year.

Traditionally the winning country hosts the following year’s contest.

Sweden was followed by Finland’s Käärijä with 526 points and Israel’s Noa Kirel with 362 points, who took second and third place respectively.

This year’s Eurovision took place in Liverpool, U.K. on behalf of last year’s winner Ukraine after it was deemed too dangerous to hold Eurovision in the country following the Russian invasion. Ukrainian entry Kalush Orchestra won last year’s contest followed by the U.K.’s Sam Ryder in close second.

Remarkably it is Loreen’s second Eurovision win: she previously won the contest in 2012 with her song “Euphoria.”

Eurovision is back. The annual song contest is being held this year in Liverpool, with the Grand Final taking place on May 13 after two days of semifinals. What Is Eurovision?

The first was held in 1956, mainly as a way to experiment with live broadcasting and to fund cheap programming. The only year the concert has not been held since is 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The performances of...

Eurovision 2023: And The Song Contest’s Biggest Break Out Star Is… The Host
Image
Never mind which country takes the Eurovision crown this evening in Liverpool, UK – the audience has already claimed its favourite, and it’s the host Hannah Waddingham.

Waddingham won over the audience, who began chanting her name during Tuesday evening’s first semi-final after she recited the rules in perfect French. She told the crowd: “You see, Europe, some of us Brits do bother to learn another language.”

And her exuberance, warmth and spontaneous dance moves have all caught the notice of viewers, who have captured her in memes and epithets on social media.

Eurovision 2023: How To Watch Around The World, Who’s The Favorite & What Are This Year’s Controversies Ahead Of The Semi-Finals
Image
The Coronation was but the warm-up event. This coming Saturday sees the UK play host to the 67th Eurovision Song Contest and venue city Liverpool is pulling out all the stops.

Sunday evening even saw local chart-toppers – from 40 years ago – Frankie Goes to Hollywood reunite after an acrimonious split in 1987. The band, responsible for huge hits ‘Relax’ and ’Two Tribes’, took to the stage at an outdoor event in Liverpool which signalled the beginning of this special Eurovision week for the city.

Frankie fans were delighted to see the band back together, although they were left bemused by them playing only one song ‘Welcome to the Pleasuredome’ before lead vocalist Holly Johnson told fans, “Bless you. Lovely to see you all,” and the band left the stage.

Ukrainian presence

The UK is playing host in place of last year’s winners Ukraine, who would traditionally host but are prevented this year by war.

Eurovision To Be Beamed Live Into British Cinemas; TikTok Confirmed As Song Contest’s Entertainment Partner
Image
For the first time in its history, the Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast live in cinemas across the UK.

The European Broadcasting Union, who runs the event, has confirmed the grand final of this year’s Contest – to take place in the northern UK city of Liverpool on May 13th – will be beamed into cinemas, where they also encourage fancy dress and singalongs.

After many years of Brits slighting the event, which they haven’t won since 1997, Eurovision has caught the imagination in the UK this year, following the British entry Sam Ryder’s second place last year.

Ukraine won, but the UK will be hosting in its place, while the war continues in the eastern European country.

Tickets for seats in the Liverpool arena – for the grand-final plus two semi-finals and rehearsals – were sold out within 40 minutes of going on sale.
