The Shudder streaming series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs is currently deep into its seventh season – and now, for the first time, the show is set to receive a physical media release! Fans recently started noticing listings for The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs Blu-rays and DVDs showing up on sites like Amazon and Target – but there wasn’t accurate artwork, so it was a mystery what this 4 hour and 55 minute release would be. Now, the proper artwork has been unveiled, revealing that this is a double feature of the Joe Lynch-directed films Suitable Flesh and Mayhem! This double feature is set to be released on October 14th… and it appears to be limited quantity, because Amazon is currently sold out of the Blu-ray edition. Hopefully they’ll be restocking soon.

The 11th Bentonville Film Festival is underway in Arkansas, the annual event bringing together Oscar caliber talent and films, with an emphasis on inclusion in an industry not known for providing equal access to opportunity.
This year’s festival, running June 16-22, boasts nine world premieres, 28 feature films in competition, and a newly launched Homegrown Competition “highlighting powerful stories from filmmakers based in or filming in Arkansas” as part of a robust lineup of programming.
Deadline attended the opening night kickoff at Skylight Cinema, highlighted by a screening of East of Wall, the Sony Pictures Classics drama that presents “an authentic portrait of female resilience in the ‘New West’ inspired and played by the women and girls who live it.”
On the red carpet we spoke with Bff chair Geena Davis, asking about her excitement level as the festival began.
“On a scale of 1 to 10, I’m 11,” she told us.

In an industry where the concept of a movie star is disappearing, actors like Tom Holland are still standing out from the crowd with their incredible craft and skills. The actor began his career as a child artist but got his big breakthrough as Spider-Man in the MCU. Now, he is one of the biggest new age stars of Hollywood.
The MCU is one of the biggest franchises in the industry and employs hundreds of actors across its movie and TV offerings. Lifeline plunges us into a claustrophobic call center where every ring tightens the screws on Steven Thomas’s psyche. The film’s structure mirrors a finely tuned mechanism: terse exchanges with distressed callers punctuate the steady march toward midnight. Director Feras Alfuqaha stages much of the action in one dimly lit room, yet edits and reframes each shot so that memory sequences feel sudden and urgent. When the aspect ratio snaps from widescreen to 4:3 during flashbacks, it signals a shift in emotional territory—nostalgia warping into dread.
The screenplay threads real‐time dialogue with carefully timed tremors (no one else seems to notice) that echo Steven’s buried trauma. Each seismic jolt is scored to jolt us: Omar Habbak’s electronic pulses swell with tension, then cut out when the phone clicks. That silence becomes its own tool, letting us inhabit Steven’s loneliness.

The entertainment industry chews up and spits out child stars like they're tough pieces of jerky (look at how "iCarly" actor Jennette McCurdy disappeared from Hollywood for instance). Resultantly, it's surprising when these young prodigies survive Tinsel Town's subliminal hit jobs and go on to have successful careers as adults. Jenna Ortega is one of the few who made it in this regard. She cut her teeth on everything from the soapie "Days of Our Lives" to the it-must-have-been-a-fever-dream "Richie Rich" series on Netflix. Then, she ascended to the lead in Disney's "Stuck in the Middle" and an important supporting role in season 2 of the I'm-certain-it's-a-"Gossip Girl"-prequel "You."
For Ortega, her acting career has only been on a meteoric rise, as she continues to grow in popularity and feature in bigger TV shows and movies, such as "Wednesday" and "Scream." But how do we determine and rank her best projects?...

Steven Thomas is an aspiring writer who volunteers at Lifeline, a suicide prevention crisis centre. First-time feature director Feras Alfuqaha and writers Brady Morell and Brian Price allow us to sit in with Thomas during his first few calls, giving us a glimpse into his demeanour and capabilities.
He’s calm, methodical, and competent, making it clear that while this might be new territory for him, he has the empathy and composure needed for the job. Everything seems routine until he receives a call from a young man who not only claims he is about to kill himself but also shares his name. Over the last decade or two, one particular trend in Hollywood has left moviegoers divided. This specific trend involves major studios electing to remake their fan-favorite films from years before. Some enjoy seeing their favorite stories be brought back to life, while others would prefer to see studios dedicating their resources to more original ideas. Regardless of where you stand on this debate, it is impossible to deny that the movie world has recently been flooded with remakes of popular films.
A major reason why so many of these remakes are happening is because they often feel like a surefire way to make a massive profit by capitalizing on a pre-existing audience. However, several recent attempts have demonstrated that success is not a guarantee. Some remakes unfortunately end up thoroughly underwhelming their audiences, failing to offer all the exciting elements that made the original films so popular, particularly when it...

Two Christmas series are trending on Netflix, and they couldn't be more different. Netflix's library contains a diverse array of Christmas titles. Although their roster includes an ever-shifting array of acquired movies and TV shows that come and go as licensing contracts change, their holiday season offerings for 2024 have included theatrical titles such as A Bad Moms Christmas and Journey to Bethlehem as well as a huge list of Hallmark CHannel movies including Haul Out the Holly, Christmas with a Kiss, Christmas in Notting Hill, A Biltmore Christmas, and A Merry Scottish Christmas.
However, since the late 2010s, they have also built out a huge roster of Netflix original Christmas movies, many of which take place in an interconnected universe. This includes the Princess Switch and A Christmas Prince trilogies, A Castle for Christmas, and The Knight Before Christmas. However, they also have many other holiday-themed offerings including holiday versions...

Acclaimed actor and action star Kurt Russell, star of such cinematic classics as The Thing, Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China, the Fast and Furious movies, Death Proof, the MCU, and much, much more, evidently makes a crowd-pleasing Santa Claus as his Christmas Netflix outing has now made its way into the top 10. Released in 2018, The Christmas Chronicles stars Russell as a gruff, but no less magical, version of Santa, who must save the festive season with the help of a couple of kids after his souped-up sleigh is wrecked.
Directed by Clay Kaytis from a screenplay by Matt Lieberman, and produced by the director behind Home Alone and Harry Potter, Chris Columbus, The Christmas Chronicles was met with solid reviews upon release and now sits at #9 in the Netflix top 10 behind the likes of the controversial religious saga Mary, the animated outing That Christmas, and the Christmas action movie Carry-On.

November wound up covering a lot of ground. We dipped a toe into pre-Code territory with Albert Ray’s 1932 title The Thirteenth Guest (listen), stayed at “Aaron’s” cabin in Creep 2 (listen), and got our hair done with Jill Gevargizian’s 2020 film The Stylist (listen).
Now we’re talking about gay screenwriter Devon Graye and director Adam Randall‘s under seen and under rated thriller I See You (2019).
In the film, police detective Greg (Jon Tenney) is struggling with his wife Jackie (Helen Hunt)’s infidelity as he works a new case with partner Spitzky (Gregory Alan Williams). The case is a child abduction that bears a striking similarity to events from 15 years ago. As Greg and Jackie’s teenage son Conor (Judah Lewis) blames his mother, strange events begin occurring around the house.

Kurt Russell's underrated 2018 Christmas comedy is climbing up the Netflix charts six years after its original release. Russell may be best-known as an action star, thanks to career-defining movies like Escape from New York, The Thing, Tango & Cash, Tombstone, Backdraft, Stargate and many more. But over the years Russell has also carved out a space for himself in lighter fare, taking on both comedy and family-friendly roles.
The star’s work in family-friendly projects indeed began early on when he toiled as a lovable child and teen actor in Disney titles like The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, The Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes and Now You See Him, Now You Don’t. Success as a grown-up comedy performer was in the offing for Russell starting in the 1980s, when he starred alongside wife Goldie Hawn in the hit movie Overboard.

Streamed in over 20 million households on its first week of release, Clay Kaytis' The Christmas Chronicles made a Netflix debut to remember back in late November 2018, at a time when many festive films struggled to make a cultural impact. Now considered one of the better yuletide offerings in recent memory, The Christmas Chronicles has earned itself a loyal fanbase that tune in each festive season to indulge in Kurt Russell's Santa Claus and his adventure to save Christmas alongside Ted (Judah Lewis) and Kate (Darby Camp), a pair of children who inadvertently cause his sleigh to crash.

Red One brings a new level of action and comedy to heartfelt Christmas movies, with audience reviews remarking on how entertaining the holiday movie is. Red One boasts a cast of action stars, particularly Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson, who are always reliable fan favorites. Though Red One is unique in many ways, there are other great movies that also include Red One cast members or that strike a similar tone to the action-packed holiday movie to follow up with.
Johnson and Evans' humor and action as Callum and Jack, Lucy Liu's commanding presence, and Kiernan Shipka's mythical villain Gryla all add unique elements to Red One that have already made it one of 2024's most notable Christmas movies. From previous action comedies starring Red One's cast, to non-traditional Christmas movies with a heartwarming message, there are numerous projects for audiences to check out next.

While there aren’t any movies quite like Coralie Fergeat’s “The Substance,” there are plenty of over-the-top horror films about transformation, incredibly weird science, shared identities and losing your damn mind, like the 1981 cult movie “Possession,” pretty much every David Cronenberg movie, as well as offerings from Ken Russell, Peter Strickland, Julia Ducournau and Ari Aster.
Expect screaming, exploding heads, lots of blood and some of the most insane endings ever.
Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill in “Possession” (Credit: Gaumont) Possession (1981)
Isabelle Adjani has the mother of all freakouts in a subway in this role that earned her a César for Best Actress (the French equivalent of the Oscars) and Best Actress at the Cannes Film Fest that year, but that’s not even the most mind-blowing part of the movie form Polish director Andrzej Żuławski. She’s also cheating on her husband (Sam Neill) with something that isn’t really human.

Spider-Man: No Way Home united a divided fan base when Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland shared the same screen. The latter mused about playing the part and his MCU debut.
Excitement peaked for Captain America: Civil War when Spider-Man appeared in the trailers. Fans have been anticipating the characters debut following news that Marvel Studios cast Tom Holland. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfields performances in the role were tough acts to follow, but Hollands previous films proved he could play the part with effortless, boyish charm. Holland revealed in a Rich Roll podcast he had qualms about his casting before Civil War, doubting he would make a good impression.

Samara Weaving has carved out a niche for herself in Hollywood as an A-list scream queen by appearing in several recent acclaimed horror movies, including 2024's Azrael. After eight years as an actor, Weaving entered the horror genre with 2017's The Babysitter. Although she has landed dramatic roles in award-winning movies like 2017's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and 2022's Babylon, much of Weaving's filmography involves the horror and thriller genre. Many of her horror movie roles have been well-received by critics and audiences alike, giving her one of the most impressive resumes of any modern scream queen.
The talented actress' horror resume isn't limited to films, as she starred in season 1 of Starz's Ash vs. Evil Dead as Heather, a hiker who has to survive a demonic onslaught with the main characters. Weaving has been on several sides of the horror genre, playing the final girl heroine, a...

With the momentum of stardom in her favor after Netflix’s Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Jenna Ortega will surely take on more Hollywood projects following Season 2 of Wednesday, which is currently in production.
Before these two Tim Burton projects, Ortega had roles in several other Netflix films and a television show as well as separate feature films. She got her start in a Colgate toothpaste commercial and then a Disney Channel show that mirrored the aspect of her big family.
Some might recognize Ortega as the actress who portrayed the younger version of Jane Gloriana Villanueva (portrayed by Gina Rodriguez when she’s older) in the CW’s Jane the Virgin. She also appeared in Studio 666 a horror film in which the Foo Fighters move into a storied rock ‘n roll studio that starts to haunt their work. “Things get messy when you make a deal with the devil.”
Babysitters occupy a unique place in society. Somewhere between child and adult, they step into the family system for a brief moment in time to hold the line of parental responsibility. Of course people of all ages and identities can and do babysit, but when we think of the amateur profession, it’s a high school girl that usually comes to mind. She is polite, demure, and responsible, young enough to kick back and have fun with the kids, but old enough to take charge in the event of a crisis. Cosplaying the role of mother, she often becomes an object of sexual desire and stereotypical temptation for discontent fathers and curious young boys. McG plays with this enigmatic archetype in The Babysitter, a satanic horror comedy featuring one of the coolest and most endearing antagonists in recent horror memory.

Summer of 84 brings serial killer horror to a nostalgic 80s backdrop, creating a chilling modern take on a classic concept. Frailty adds religious fervor to the murder mystery genre, crafting a tense thriller with a creative twist ending. M, a classic from 1931, remains a smartly-produced, influential film chronicling the hunt for a child murderer.
Serial killers are a popular topic in movies, but not every great film using them as subject matter is as widely seen as it may deserve. The morbid fascination with repeat murderers is something of a staple in cinema, with both past hits and modern classics like the recently-released Longlegs featuring serial killers prominently. But there are plenty of incredible films centered on the topic that have somehow evaded popularity, despite the excellence with which they portray human killers.

Is there an issue more contentious in Hollywood than facial hair? Frankly, yes. But it's still fun to talk about. Throughout the history of the industry, stars' choice of facial adornment have caused no end of issues for studio executives. Such was the case with Gregory Peck and 1950's "The Gunfighter," in which he donned a majestic mustache that then-20th Century Fox head Darryl F. Zanuck claimed he would have paid $25K to shave. Sadly, however, Zanuck was out of the country when the film shot, and only discovered the offending stache upon his return. According to the exec, it was this precise element that was to blame for the film failing to meet box office expectations.
This is but one facial hair-related debacle in the annals of Hollywood lore. What about when some sort of facial fuzz is actually required for a role? Well, in the '90s,...

Clay Kaytis' 2018 family film "The Christmas Chronicles" has a pretty typical plot for a Christmas movie. A pair of mischievous kids (Judah Lewis and Darby Camp) catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) delivering gifts on Christmas Eve, and stow away on his sleigh. Their subterfuge, however, causes the sleigh to crash, scattering Santa's ephemera across Chicago. Santa and the two kids will have to work overtime to retrieve Santa's magical belongings -- his reindeer, his hat, and his gift bag -- so that he may deliver all his gifts by Christmas morning. Like in many kids' movies, the kids are mourning the loss of a parent, so "Chronicles" is also about regaining hope and realizing that childhood magic still exists in a world of grief.
The film was such a hit, a sequel, "The Christmas Chronicles 2" was released in 2020. Kurt Russell's real-life long-term sweetheart Goldie Hawn played Mrs. Claus in both films,...

Anyone who knows me would say my taste runs ever so slightly counter to the popular opinion but up top I wanted to shout out some big titles that I appreciate but didn’t quite make my favorites list. Oftentimes it feels like the days of true-blue horror icons are behind us, but Gerard Johnstone and Akela Cooper’s M3GAN was a veritable hoot that gave us an instantly iconic tiny terror in tights who more than lived up to the memes and showed everyone that hasn’t quite come around yet on HBO’s Girls just how #mother Allison Williams is. Also, that Skatt Brothers “Walk the Night” needle drop took up residence in my head last January and has not left. Talk to Me was one of the more intense in-theater experiences I had this year, and though it lost something the more I sat with it, what...

The best way I can describe the past year is as a year of trend shifts in the film zeitgeist. In a film environment where the most popular discussions often revolved around the never-ending slate of superhero blockbusters (and Martin Scorsese’s opinions on them for some reason), 2023 positioned itself as a time of change in the film industry.
Between the struggles faced by once-dominant cape flicks to break even at the box office and the SAG-AFTRA/WGA strikes being at the forefront of industry shakeups into awards season, 2023 has been a year of unlikely and/or unusual success stories for off-kilter genre movies.
In 2023 alone, we bore witness to a horror game adaptation outperforming superhero movies from both Marvel and DC, video game movies in general overtaking the conversation surrounding films and of course, the Barbenheimer double feature born from a meme before blossoming into two of the most successful films of the year.

Consider the career of one Joseph McGinty Nichol, better known by the nom de plume McG. This is a man whose directorial debut as a feature filmmaker in 2000 was the paradigm-shifting, zeitgeist-grabbing, new millennium bar-setter "Charlie's Angels." Sit with that for a moment. His next film? The extraordinary sequel "Full Throttle." Mind you these were gigs that star and producer Drew Barrymore personally sought out McG for based on the music videos he made for the band Sugar Ray. One of the more significant sliding doors moments in modern American history is the fact that McG was the original frontman for the band that would become Sugar Ray, before humbly realizing his talents lay elsewhere and convincing high school buddy Mark McGrath to take over.
McG helped launch and executive produce both "The Oc" and "Supernatural," he produced "Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll" and "Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious,...

Filmed near the end of 2015, director McG’s horror comedy The Babysitter was released through the Netflix streaming service during the Halloween season of 2017 – and not only did it help establish Samara Weaving as a modern genre icon, it also did well enough to spawn a sequel. The Babysitter: Killer Queen was released by Netflix in September of 2020. Three years later (and eight years after he was in production on the first film), McG has confirmed to ComicBook.com that he’s still interested in making The Babysitter 3!
McG said, “We’re still talking about it. It was fun. The first movie, obviously, gave Samara Weaving to the world, and the second movie was Jenna Ortega. Hopefully we can answer the call and find a third star that reaches those lofty heights.“
The director previously told our friends at Bloody Disgusting, “There have always been three beats to this story. There’s the first beat,...
