Yellowjackets season 4 needs to expand on Taissa's role in the Wilderness
Image
Taissa Turner is meant to be one of the most significant characters in Yellowjackets. She survives the dangers of the Wilderness and returns home with her fellow teammates after an experience that left them all too traumatized to truly address what they went through.

In the first season, Yellowjackets suggested that Taissa was going to be one of the most instrumental characters in the series. She would have to be in order to be one of the remaining survivors. However, with each passing season, Yellowjackets has strayed further from what would make Taissa Turner such a survivor, and season 4 needs to return to developing her character in a way that shows exactly how and why Taissa survived her time in the Canadian Wilderness.

Yellowjackets has not been shy about using "Other Taissa" as a representation of Taissa's trauma. This alternate personality is shown heavily throughout the adult timeline, but it...

‘Yellowjackets’: Liv Hewson Explains Van’s ‘Eerie,’ ‘Beautiful’ End & Why It’s a ‘Crazy Smoking Gun’ (Video)
Image
Death runs rampant in Yellowjackets, but never so much as it did in Season 3. Four characters were killed off in the third season, two of which were a long time coming and two that came as a huge shock to longtime fans. Liv Hewson and Lauren Ambrose‘s Van Palmer, the adult version of whom was debuted in Season 2, has escaped death so many times that Van fancied herself to be “unkillable.” So says Hewson themselves in the video interview above breaking down Van’s arc in Yellowjackets Season 3. But the death knell rang for this pop culture-obsessed character, who met their tragic end at the hands of a surprise adult survivor from the wilderness, Melissa, played by Jenna Burgess in flashbacks and Hilary Swank in the present day. Van was only meant to be a one-season character, but Hewson got bumped up to series regular when the Paramount+ With...

Coming off the series’ most-watched season to date, Paramount+ with Showtime has renewed Yellowjackets for a fourth season. There’s no word yet on when filming will get underway, or a target premiere date.

“Yellowjackets has become a cultural juggernaut; with season three shattering all previous records, we are thrilled to announce its renewal for a season four on Paramount+,” stated Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios. “Ashley and Bart have masterfully crafted an utterly singular, genre-defying phenomenon: a perfect alchemy of psychological horror, survival thriller, and coming-of-age drama that continues to captivate audiences worldwide, brought to life by our extraordinarily talented and beloved cast.”

The season three finale was the most streamed episode of the series.

'Yellowjackets' Fate Finally Decided After Season 3 Lands Lowest Rotten Tomatoes Score of the Series
Image
The Antler Queen lives on. A month ago, Yellowjackets wrapped Season 3 and left many questions in fans' minds. Fortunately, Showtime has decided that we can continue following the soccer team for another season — the show is officially renewed for Season 4. The release window for the new episodes has not yet been announced. Even though no show is 100% safe these days, the Yellowjackets renewal doesn't come as much of a surprise. The Season 3 finale, "Full Circle," was the show's most-watched episode ever, according to Paramount+, with 3 million viewers. The streaming platform also announced that the latest season of the thriller series ranks among the most watched so far, suggesting that fans are more curious than ever to find out what the heck is going on in the wilderness and what secrets the girls and women are still hiding. The series' Rotten Tomatoes score, however, suggests that, despite the curiosity, fans are...

‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3 Finale Is the Show’s Most-Watched Episode Ever
Image
The Antler Queen's reign was fruitful. This week, Paramount+ unveiled streaming numbers from Season 3 of Yellowjackets and it looks like fans of the series were more excited than ever with it. According to the streamer, seven days after the Season 3 finale "Full Circle" dropped on the platform, it had reached 3 million viewers — a record for the thriller series. In streaming numbers alone, this represents an increase of 52% when compared to viewership numbers from the Season 2 finale. Showtime is yet to announce if the show is coming back for another season.

Paramount+ also revealed that the overall performance of Season 3 was reason for celebration: the latest season was the most watched of the series so far. Even though the streamer wasn't specific about numbers, they did indicate that their metrics are related to a seven-day window of viewership after a new episode drops. At this moment, the Christina Ricci (Wednesday) and...

"She Doesn't Love Herself": 'Yellowjackets' Star Sophie Nélisse Reveals Whether Shauna Ever Loved Melissa
Image
One of the most surprising relationships that Yellowjackets unveiled in Season 3 was the sudden connection between Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) and Melissa (Jenna Burgess) in the wilderness. While fans tend to root for some couples on the show, like the beautifully tragic relationship between Tai (Tawny Newsome and Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Van (Lauren Ambrose and Liv Hewson), Shauna and Melissa's situationship felt a little off from the start — and things only got worse when adult Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) and adult Melissa (Hilary Swank) crossed paths again after many years away from each other. During a recent episode of Collider Ladies Night, Nélisse addressed the romance and weighed in on Shauna's point of view.

During the interview, Nélisse told Ladies Night host Perri Nemiroff that there is a lot of nuance to Shauna's feelings. At the same time, she underscored that the context in which this relationship came to life was...

‘Yellowjackets’ Showrunners Break Down Season 3 Finale, All That Shauna Hate and a Potential Season 4
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “Yellowjackets” Season 3, Episode 10.

“Yellowjackets” showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco teased that Teen Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) would go to some incredibly dark places in Season 3, but some viewers were still not prepared with just how far she went to consolidate her power as the Antler Queen.

TheWrap checked back in with Lyle, Nickerson and Lisco about Episode 10 and why Shauna became such a divisive character, ready to betray or kill Mari (Alexa Barajas), Coach Ben (Steven Krueger) and even her own girlfriend Melissa (Jenna Burgess), as well as shutting down the team’s chances of being led back to civilization by outdoor guide Kodiak (Joel McHale).

Although the series has yet to be renewed for Season 4, they promised that even if the rescued Yellowjackets are not literally in the wilderness anymore, there is still “a lot of story to mine.”

‘Yellowjackets’ Bosses on Crowning [Spoiler] the Antler Queen and Ideas for a Possible Season 4
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the Season 3 finale of “Yellowjackets,” titled “Full Circle,” streaming now on Paramount+ with Showtime.

It’s Mari!

The identity of Pit Girl was finally revealed in the Season 3 finale of “Yellowjackets,” when Mari (Alexa Barajas) accidentally plunged to her death into the stake-filled pit while being hunted by her soccer teammates. The episode also confirmed the true identity of the pilot episode’s Antler Queen: Turns out it was Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) all along.

In the 1990s timeline, the teen plane-crash survivors must endure another harsh winter in the Canadian wilderness, and after their primary source of meat — the farm animals — all die, the group again participates in a sacrificial ritual to survive.

Van (Liv Hewson) and Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown) can’t bear to lose another friend, so they rig the deck of cards to ensure that outsider Hannah (Ashley Sutton) will draw the Queen of Hearts.

‘Yellowjackets’ Bosses Explain Everything — From “Pit Girl” to All Those Deaths and What Comes Next
Image
[This story contains Major spoilers from the season three finale of Yellowjackets, “Full Circle.”]

The Yellowjackets co-creators had promised answers by the end of the season. They delivered on that with a revelatory season three finale, “Full Circle.”

The Showtime series catapulted itself into the zeitgeist when it launched in 2021 with a captivating pilot about a team of high school soccer players whose plane crashes in the middle of nowhere. The pilot weaved together two timelines with that 1996 crash and the present-day survivors, played by a beloved cast, and there was a killer flash-forward opening of an unidentified girl running for her life, barefoot through snow, who is then impaled and eaten by her friends. This girl became known as “Pit Girl” — her identity speculated about and debated on fan threads for years. Who is this poor girl and how did those teenagers arrive at a place where they hunted their friends for ritual cannibalistic feasts?

“Full Circle,” which was written...

‘Yellowjackets’ Star Liv Hewson Talks “Beautiful Meta” Moment With Lauren Ambrose & Potentially “Fascinating” Lesbian Drama Ahead
Image
Spoilers: This post contains details about the Yellowjackets, Season 3 episode ‘How the Story Ends’

Another one bites the dust this weekend on Yellowjackets, and it’s a particularly devastating loss for longtime fans.

Ahead of the Season 3 penultimate episode ‘How the Story Ends’, Deadline caught up with Liv Hewson about bidding farewell to the adult version of their character Van and the “beautiful meta” moment they shared with counterpart Lauren Ambrose while filming the character’s death scene.

“Lauren actually brought me into the room, into the kitchen, while they were filming Melissa [played by Hilary Swank] killing Van,” recalled Hewson. “So, I’m physically off camera, behind the kitchen island, in the room with them. And that was a very profound experience, actually. It was very emotional. And episode nine was full of experiences like that, honestly. It was like layers upon layers of this sort of meta narrative experience as...

Consider this: Melanie Lynskey deserves another bite at the Emmys for series-best ‘Yellowjackets’ turn in ‘A Normal, Boring Life’
Image
Warning: The following story contains spoilers about last week's episode of Yellowjackets, "A Normal, Boring Life."

Throughout the first 26 episodes of Yellowjackets, there are multiple instances in which adult Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) brings out the dark side from behind her harmless homemaker façade. When she drives off a prying journalist in the show's pilot. When she threatens to gut former schoolmate Randy (Jeff Holman) “like a pig” if he tells anyone about his and her husband Jeff’s (Warren Kole) attempt to blackmail the Yellowjackets. When she reminisces about her many times skinning human corpses to scare a carjacker into returning her stolen vehicle. But she never allows that dark side to fully take over. In the Showtime drama’s 27th outing, the eighth episode of Season 3, “A Normal, Boring Life,” she finally does, and it leads to another Emmy-worthy turn from Lynskey.

The episode follows Shauna as she pursues...

'Yellowjackets' Creators Tease Hilary Swank Has the "Level of Sharp Teeth That This Character Requires"
Image
Editor's Note: This article contains spoilers for Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 8, "A Normal, Boring Life."

When the first Yellowjacketstrailer dropped a few months ago, we were all gobsmacked by the reveal of Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank running for her life in the present timeline. Now, after seven episodes of speculation, it's finally confirmed that Swank is playing the adult version of Melissa. Jenna Burgess originated the character in the '90s timeline, and thanks to her relationship with Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), she's become a major player in Season 3 after spending much of the first two seasons on the bench.

During a recent interview with Collider's Perri Nemiroff for Episode 8 at SXSW, "A Normal, Boring Life," co-showrunners Jonathan Lisco and Ashley Lyle and producer Drew Comins spoke about the casting process for Swank. When asked how they went about getting the heavily decorated actress, Lisco jumped in first, saying, "We went to her.

Yellowjackets Season 3 Finally Confirms The Identity Of Hilary Swank's Character
Image
This article contains major spoilers for "Yellowjackets."

Well, congrats citizen detectives, you've done it again. "Yellowjackets" season 3 episode 8 "A Normal Boring Life" finally introduces special guest star Hilary Swank. As the fan hive had called, she is playing a grown-up version of plane crash survivor Melissa (Jenna Burgess).

To make sure the audience recognizes her, Swank's Melissa is introduced wearing a baseball cap, like the one her teenage self has often been seen in. As fans had previously caught from promotional footage, Swank is also wearing blue contact lenses to match Burgess' eye color.

Swank's casting fits a pattern. The past storyline of "Yellowjackets" is set in the 1990s, so for the middle-aged characters, the show has cast '90s starlets Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, and Juliette Lewis. Swank, who broke out thanks to "The Next Karate Kid" and "Beverly Hills 90210," fits that mold. Not for nothing, one...

Hilary Swank Breaks Down Her ‘Yellowjackets’ Character Reveal and That Bloody Fight: ‘Everything Is Retriggered for Her’
Image
This article contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 3, Episode 8

In this week’s episode of “Yellowjackets,” we finally meet Hilary Swank’s character. As several fans had already guessed, she plays adult Melissa, although that reveal was harder to suss out once we learned her fellow survivors thought she was dead.

Instead, she had started a new life under a new name. Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) manages to track her down and is stunned to learn that Melissa (now called Kelly), is married to Hannah’s daughter, who, naturally, has no idea of her real identity.

TheWrap spoke with her about signing on for the show even though, as she told us it “was too violent for my taste,” when it first debuted. She also addressed that “crazy” fight where Shauna takes a bite out of her arm and tries to get her to eat her own flesh. “When she sees everybody again,...

Hilary Swank on Her ‘Yellowjackets’ Face Off With Melanie Lynskey and Twisted Cannibalistic Cliffhanger
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from season three, episode eight of Yellowjackets, “A Normal, Boring Life.”]

When it was announced that Hilary Swank would be joining Yellowjackets, who she was playing was kept secret. As the third season began to roll out, the Showtime series heavily hinted that a character from the wilderness past was perhaps haunting Melanie Lynskey’s Shauna in present day. For anyone who guessed that Swank would make her debut as the adult version of that person, you were right.

In episode eight, “A Normal, Boring Life,” Swank arrived as Melissa, a new “older” (as the cast of the hit Showtime series calls them) for the teen played by Jenna Burgess in the 1996-97 timeline. Swank plays one of four new characters introduced this season, following the wilderness debuts of Joel McHale, Nelson Franklin and Ashley Sutton.

Teen Melissa’s role expanded in season three when she explored a new relationship with Shauna (played by Sophie Nélisse in the teen version). “It’s a very Yellowjackets romance,...

'Yellowjackets' Season 3 Finally Reveals Hilary Swank's Character
Image
Since it was announced that Hilary Swank would be joining the cast of Yellowjacketsfor season three, fans have been theorizing who her character could be. Those details have been kept under wraps to avoid spoilers for the plot.

Some initially believed she would be the adult version of Melissa (Jenna Burgess), the young survivor in the wilderness who found more of a voice in season two, and an affection for Shauna (Sophie Nelisse). But in Episode 7, when adult Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), Van (Lauren Ambrose), and Tai (Tawny Cypress) listen to the audio tape that was left on Shauna’s doorstep, and they mention Melissa as a possibility for the sender, Van shoots this down, noting that she is dead. The other option bandied about was that she could be Hannah’s (Ashley Sutton) daughter, Alex, now grown and looking for revenge. The truth sort of combines the two, but in the weirdest way.

How Old Are the Yellowjackets Characters in Each Timeline?
Image
Yellowjacketsis split into two main timelines: 1996, when the team's plane crashes on its way to nationals, and 2021, when the surviving Yellowjackets reunite 25 years later. The audience gets to know the girls surviving in the wilderness as teenagers and their adult versions (the ones that survived) dealing with their trauma and a new set of mysteries. Since the girls led their high school soccer team into nationals, it's unsurprising that most Yellowjackets were already high school seniors.

However, the Yellowjackets were accompanied by the coaches, the coach's family, and even teammates from the Junior Varsity team, so not everyone was exactly the same age. Twenty-five years later, in 2021, the surviving girls are in their early 40s, but their arrested development has caused them many issues in their current lives. While not in the wilderness anymore, the adult Yellowjackets still battle their inner demons.

Joel McHale Loved Playing a Crossbow-Wielding Psycho on ‘Yellowjackets’: ‘I Was Like, Oh, Here We Go’
Image
This article contains spoilers for Season 3 Episode 7 of “Yellowjackets”

In this week’s jaw-dropping episode of “Yellowjackets,” we finally learn how guest star Joel McHale fits into the story: He plays a macho outdoor guide named Kodiak who is guiding two scientists (Ashley Sutton and Nelson Franklin) into the wilderness to film frogs when things, shall we say, take a deadly turn.

As we briefly glimpsed in the previous episode, these unfortunate travelers stumble across the plane crash survivors in full howling “feast” mode around a late night bonfire. At first, there is shock on both sides, until Edwin (Franklin) sees the head of Coach Ben and yells, “What the f–k?”

Before anyone can fully explain — that is, if you can ever really explain how you resorted to cannibalism to complete strangers — Lottie (Courtney Eaton) sneaks up behind Edwin and buries an ax in his head.

Joel McHale's Yellowjackets Season 3 Character Explained
Image
Spoilers for "Yellowjackets" season 3 follow.

The two big casting gets for "Yellowjackets" season 3 were Hilary Swank and Joel McHale. Neither casting, though, was announced with a character description. As of episode 7, "Croak," we still don't know who Swank's character is, but she's playing someone in the 2021 timeline. Good money has it that she's Shauna's (Melanie Lynskey) mystery stalker. The latest episode has finally unveiled McHale's character, though, and it resets the whole chess board.

Going into the new season, I assumed McHale would be playing someone in the present day. It's not like the 1996 story could just reveal he was there in the wilderness all along. Plus, McHale is most famous as the sardonic Jeff Winger on the sitcom "Community" — his acting style seemed like a closer fit for the black comedy of the adults' storyline. Just imagine him playing off the two great comedic talents of "Yellowjackets,...

‘Yellowjackets’: Joel McHale and Director Jennifer Morrison on That ‘Frog Orgy’ Moment and Nailing the Intense Chase Sequence
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 3, Episode 7, titled “Croak,” streaming now on Paramount+ with Showtime.

The Yellowjackets have welcomed new additions to the hive — as hostages.

This week’s episode, “Croak,” begins with a series of events that occurred before the Yellowjackets’ first encounter with outsiders in the wilderness. It turns out that the eerie “screaming trees” the young survivors have been hearing all season aren’t supernatural after all — they’re the mating call of a frog species known as the Arctic Banshee frog.

Viewers are introduced to three new characters: scientists Hannah (Ashley Sutton) and Edwin (Nelson Franklin), a couple eager to document the sounds of the horny, shrieking frogs, and their crossbow-wielding wilderness guide, Kodiak (Joel McHale).

While waiting out a thunderstorm inside their tent, the scientists attempt to bond with Kodiak as they smoke a pine-flavored joint. Edwin jokingly suggests they call a...

Who Are the Mysterious Trio in 'Yellowjacket's Episode 7?
Image
Fans knew that Joel McHale was added to the cast of Yellowjackets Season 3. And now, the details of his character have finally been revealed. In the shocking Episode 6 twist, a man and a woman appear in the wilderness with the ladies. But in Episode 7, it’s revealed that there was another man with them, played by McHale.

How could they be there, as if they were casually camping out in the forest? It’s a twist no one saw coming and poses more questions than it provides answers. What happens next, however, will shock viewers to their core and suggests that the ladies are far more gone than ever anticipated.

Who Are the Three People in the Wilderness?

Looking back to that shocking twist in Episode 6 entitled “Thanksgiving (Canada),” two people show up at a bonfire where the ladies (and Travis) are gleefully consuming Ben’s (Steven Krueger) cooked body,...

Yellowjackets — “Croak” — Season 3 Episode 7 Spoiler Recap and Review
Image
After Ben’s death, the Yellowjackets are immediately found by someone in the woods. What will the women do now that they’re potentially saved? Will they accept this help, or will they also go after this man? Meanwhile, the women in the present day feel especially unhinged. Not only do they not trust each other (probably with good reason), but they have different approaches on how to follow the Wilderness. How will the women survive as they continue to feel the Wilderness encroach on their lives? “Croak” is an interesting episode to unpack some of these ideas while introducing some new characters to the evolving story.

Shauna Just Took Her Darkest Turn Yet on 'Yellowjackets,' So Now What?
Image
Season 3 of Yellowjackets sees Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) in a post-partum haze, brushing against the levity the other girls are experiencing in springtime. Shauna's growing pains after the tragedy of losing Jackie (Ella Purnell) and her child so close together are complicated by both Coach Ben's (Steven Krueger) abandonment and trial, and the admiration of Melissa (Jenna Burgess). Melissa, seemingly meek, seems interested in not only Shauna’s capacity as a butcher, but in her increasing violence and rage. In Season 3, Episode 5, "Did Tai Do That?",Melissa punctuates this dynamic when she gives Shauna a sheath for her hunting knife and highlights Jackie's past mistreatment of Shauna, as well as Jeff treating her like a "dirty secret."...

‘Yellowjackets’ Creators Reveal Latest Episode Was Included In Original Pitch & Tease How Season 3 Answers “Some Big Questions”
Image
Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about Yellowjackets‘ Season 3 episode “Thanksgiving (Canada)“

Three seasons in, Yellowjackets is sticking to the playbook.

Ahead of this week’s jaw-dropping episode of the hit Showtime series, Deadline caught up with co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson to discuss the latest heartbreaking death scene and what it means for the bigger picture of Season 3 and the rest of the series.

“I feel like things really start to ramp up, six onward, and I’m very curious how people would respond,” said Lyle. “I think we do start answering some big questions, and I think the finale is really fun, so I’m just excited for people to watch it. You never know, especially the bigger the move, the more room you’re leaving for divisiveness, but we’re all about making big moves on this show.”

Yellowjackets Season 3 Proves the Show Has a Big Problem (& It Keeps Getting Worse)
Image
Season 3 of Yellowjacketsis nearly halfway over, and the cracks in the previously brilliant Showtime thriller are starting to show. Plot threads have seemingly been dropped, characters have disappeared without mention, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to see how all the series' loose ends will be tied together. Beyond all of this, the biggest issue in the season so far concerns the most important aspect of Yellowjackets: its main characters.

In both the Past and Present, Yellowjackets Season 3 is running out of heroines to root for. At the end of Episode 4, "12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis," Present Day Lottie Matthews is killed off out of nowhere. The death of this fan-favorite character comes right off the heels of the equally tragic death of Natalie Scatorccio, and in the midst of most of the surviving characters becoming increasingly unsympathetic and unlikable.

‘Yellowjackets’: Sophie Nélisse & Steven Krueger Talk Coach Scott’s “F—ed Up” Trial & Shauna’s Power Grab
Image
Spoilers: This post contains details about the Yellowjackets, Season 3 episode ’12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis’

Court is in session on Yellowjackets as the team officially approaches (another) point of no return.

Ahead of this week’s episode of the Showtime series, Sophie Nélisse and Steven Krueger spoke to Deadline about Shauna’s newfound influence and Coach Scott’s “f—ed up” trial after he was accused of burning down the team’s cabin.

“I think Shauna sees this as an opportunity to regain power,” said Nélisse. “Not that she doesn’t care so much about the trial, but I don’t think she’s quite grasping the scope of what she’s doing and understanding the ramifications of what this might imply.”

Although Krueger’s Ben Scott seems to have convinced his former students of his innocence, Shauna (Nélisse) intimidates her fellow teammates into finding him guilty, still resentful over...

Ben has been in hiding for months, and Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) has been helping him stay away by keeping the bloodthirsty bunch off his scent. Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), who’s the most vicious of all the girls this season following the death of her baby and Jackie (Ella Purnell), is immediately enraged upon Coach’s return. She wants him dealt with quickly in the clip above, and she has support from Melissa (Jenna Burgess), her new fling. Lottie (Courtney Eaton), on the other hand,...

‘Yellowjackets’ Star Sophie Nélisse on Rage and Shaken Beliefs in Season 3: “Maybe There Is Something Bigger Than Them Out There”
Image
[This story contains spoilers through episode three of Yellowjackets season three, “Them’s the Brakes.”]

Sophie Nélisse has been warning the audience about Shauna in Yellowjackets season three.

The actress plays the teenager who has been forced to survive a devastating series of traumas ever since her soccer team’s plane crash-landed in the remote wilderness back in season one of the Showtime coming-of-age horror series. After playing an unintended role in the death of her best friend, Jackie (Ella Purnell), and then participating in her cannibalism feast in order to survive, Shauna lost the baby she had been carrying in season two. Shauna gave birth amid a fever dream, regaining consciousness to discover that her son didn’t survive childbirth.

When season three picks back up with Shauna in the wilderness, she’s in mourning and a state of bubbling rage. In interviews teasing the season, Nélisse had described Shauna as being “unhinged,” and the first moments...

A wild ending to “Dislocation” pushed Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) into a difficult position. It’s unclear if a figure of her past is haunting her or if she’s hoping that Melissa (Jenna Burgess) returns to her life. Her unhappiness in her marriage bleeds into “Them’s The Breaks” — Season 3 Episode 3 of Yellowjackets. ‘Yellowjackets’ Star Sophie Nélisse Says Shauna’s New Romance Shakes Up Power Dynamics, but Is a ‘Genuine Connection’
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “Yellowjackets” Season 3, Episode 2.

In Season 3 Episode 2 of “Yellowjackets,” everyone is understandably afraid of Teen Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), who hasn’t bought into the wilderness mythology preached by Lottie (Courtney Eaton) or the celebratory vibe as the crash survivors finally have enough to eat.

Shauna is quick to draw a knife when she finds someone following her in the woods: Melissa (Jenna Burgess) steps forward to identify herself and promptly gets pinned to a tree with a knife against her throat. So she does something unexpected: She kisses Shauna, who is stunned at first but then kisses back.

It’s the first romantic relationship to develop within the group — Van (Liv Hewson) and Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown) were already a couple before the crash — and it helps fuel the looming power shift.

Nélisse talked to TheWrap about how Melissa “embraces Shauna’s darkness” and gives...

‘Yellowjackets’: Sophie Nélisse Talks Shauna’s “Crossroads” In Season 3 — And That Unexpected Kiss
Image
Spoilers: This post contains details about the Yellowjackets, Season 3 episode ‘Dislocation’.

Although Sophie Nélisse’s Shauna has experienced insurmountable loss on Yellowjackets, the new season sees her gain an unexpected friend.

At Thursday’s Season 3 premiere of the hit Showtime series, the actress told Deadline about that kiss between Shauna and her teammate Melissa (Jenna Burgess) at the end of episode 2 ‘Dislocation’, now available to stream on Paramount+ with Showtime.

“It’s a very interesting dynamic, which I don’t even think that Shauna truly understands herself,” Nélisse explained. “I don’t think she knows what she wants. I think she’s sort of at a crossroads where what she needs deep down is to feel loved and for someone to just hold her and tell her that it wasn’t her fault, and I think Melissa kind of brings that because she sees her for who she really is...

‘Yellowjackets’ Bosses on the Parallels Between Pit Girl and [Spoiler], Hitting Reset With Season 3 and That Major Time Jump
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the first two episodes of “Yellowjackets” Season 3, streaming now on Paramount+ with Showtime.

The last time viewers saw the teen Yellowjackets, their cabin had been engulfed by flames, leaving them vulnerable and without shelter in the Canadian wilderness.

However, rather than continuing the 1990s timeline with the immediate aftermath of the cabin burning down, “Yellowjackets” Season 3 shifts to the summer, where the plane-crash survivors have established a makeshift village featuring wooden huts, a garden, and even a rabbit and duck farm.

Co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson had an in-depth discussion with their fellow showrunner, Jonathan Lisco, about whether the latest season should continue in the wintertime or with a time jump.

“Ultimately, it boiled down to really wanting a reset, and it felt to us as though the best way to just make a clean break was to do the time jump.

Yellowjackets Season 3 May Have Confirmed Who Pit Girl Is
Image
Spoilers for "Yellowjackets" to follow.

The "Yellowjackets" pilot has an unforgettable opening sequence. A girl, dressed only in a short trim nightgown, runs barefoot through an icy forest. As she flees, the ground gives way and she falls into a pit, instantly killed by wooden spikes protruding from the ground. Skewers don't set themselves up, though, so the sinister atmosphere ratchets up when a masked figure peers over the pit afterwards.

Showtime

Yes, we've known from the very beginning that the Yellowjackets — stranded in the wilderness for 19 months — will resort not only to cannibalism but also hunting and butchery. "Pit Girl," as fans call her for now, may be the first example of someone (or something) being hunted that we see, yet she's clearly isn't the first prey the other girls have ever gone after.

Since the start of the show, fans have naturally wondered when "Yellowjackets" will loop back...

‘Yellowjackets’ Star Courtney Eaton Teases Season 3 Character Deaths: “We Bawled Our Eyes Out”
Image
Yellowjackets star Courtney Eaton is closer than ever to cracking the curious case of Charlotte “Lottie” Matthews.

Now that the third season of Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson’s hit survival drama is in the can, Eaton has a firmer handle on the many questions that the series has raised about Lottie. Is she clairvoyant? Is she uniquely connected to the mysterious power in the wilderness? Or is it all a result of her now-unmedicated mental illness being compounded by the immeasurable trauma that she and her Yellowjackets teammates have endured following their plane crash in the most remote corner of the Canadian wilderness?

Admittedly, the Australian native has always struggled to offer explanations to the press, dually because she didn’t know the actual answers yet herself and she also didn’t want her interpretation to take away from the audience’s own theories. But season three has only...

‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3 Trailer Has Bodies Hitting the Floor With Melanie Lynskey, Hilary Swank
Image
The temporary alliances in both the ’90s and the present appear to be crumbling, and several characters are brandishing knives in the Season 3 trailer for “Yellowjackets,” which Showtime released Wednesday.

As the two-minute clip opens, we hear an ominous voiceover from Shauna (Melanie Lynskey): “The only way to be safe is to be the only one left.” A Drowning Pool song, “Bodies,” plays in the background, featuring the lyrics “let the bodies hit the floor.”

The trailer also features Lynskey saying, “Someone wants us dead,” after receiving a package with the mysterious symbol on it from the wilderness. So who’s behind the package? The 40-something Van (Lauren Ambrose) darkly notes, “The only people who know about this are us. Or dead.”

“People are willing to do some messed-up stuff, just to see another day,” says Melissa (Jenna Burgess) in the plane crash timeline. Meanwhile, Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) and...

Yellowjackets Season 3 Trailer Adds Hilary Swank To The Hive
Image
By the end of "Yellowjackets" season 2, it seemed we'd met all the survivors of Flight 2525's fateful crash into the wilderness. But the Ccxp teaser trailer for "Yellowjackets" season 3 has just introduced a new wild card: a mystery character played by Hilary Swank ("Million Dollar Baby"), who is around the same age as the rest of the present day cast, and is seen standing in the road with a bloodied face and makeshift bandage on her arm.

"The past will come back to hunt you," the trailer warns, before teasing fresh mysteries and more reveals from the past. Though some character deaths have been revealed as the 1996 storyline has progressed, many characters' fates are still technically ambiguous, and fans are holding out hope that there might be more crash survivors out there. Liv (Lauren Ambrose) seems to think that everyone else who was on the plane is dead, but it...

A terrifying new teaser trailer that was released on Saturday during fan event Ccxp 2024 in São Paulo, Brazil, dropped the first hints at what season three of the hit coming-of-age survival horror series has on its menu when it returns on Feb. 14.

The footage (below) opens with a warning that the past will come back to “hunt,” and the words are overlaid on top of someone wearing the Yellowjackets team survivors’ infamous cannibalism mask, indicating what creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and co-showrunner Jonathan Lisco have warned us along: More cannibalism is coming.

Yellowjackets follows dual timelines in the past and present to tell the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players (the Yellowjackets) who become the unlucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness.

In the past timeline,...

15 shows to watch after you binge Lost
Image
There’s an old rule in TV that when a show becomes a hit, you’re going to see copycats. So when Lost exploded onto TV screens as a monster success in 2004, it’s no shock that networks were quick to copy it. Sadly, too many of these would-be clones couldn’t come close to Lost’s success, failing to make their mythology or storytelling compelling enough for viewers and the majority didn’t last one season.

Yet there are a number of shows that can appeal to Lost fans. Most are pretty blatant in the setup of folks traveling and somehow trapped in a strange place. Others utilize some great mythology and are backed by a terrific cast to work well. With Lost on Netflix again, it’s time to enjoy the best of shows inspired by it, and these 15 shows definitely appeal to anyone who loves Lost’s unique storytelling style.

Everything We Know About "Yellowjackets" Season 3
Image
"Yellowjackets" was renewed for season three before the second season even premiered this spring, promising fans more chaos, cults, and cannibalism. Showtime confirmed season three in December 2022. The show's creators, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, have planned for the story of the ill-fated New Jersey soccer champs to be told over the course of five seasons, so the next season will put the story over the halfway mark.

But when the third season will finally air is, unfortunately, a huge unknown thanks to the ongoing writers' strike. Back in March, Lyle and Nickerson told The Hollywood Reporter that they were trying to start writing the new season before the strike began. "The possibility of the strike is very real. All we can do is keep moving forward until we have to put our pencils down," Lyle said. She added that the writers' room would begin officially meeting in April.

On May 2, Lyle tweeted an update,...
