‘Alert: Missing Persons Unit’: Malcolm-Jamal Warner on Team’s New Boss, Breaking Rules & More
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Alert: Missing Persons Unit Season 3 Episode 4 “Sophie.”] The latest Alert: Missing Persons Unit case is personal for Chief Inspector Bill Houston (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), and as a result, he makes a decision that he wouldn’t necessarily have under other circumstances. The missing person in question is Lieutenant Sophie Kirby (Donna Benedicto), who, along with her husband Sergeant Adam Kirby (Kurt Yaeger), served under Houston. After a truck crashes into Sophie and a friend’s car, fake EMTs arrive on scene and kidnap her. When Mpu finds their ambulance, there’s a bullet from the munitions center in which Adam works. Houston doesn’t question it and instead tells Kemi (Adeola Role) to find him. “He trusts his team,” Warner explains to TV Insider. “He supervises the unit, but this is what they do on a daily basis. So I think he has to, even though he’s overseeing it, go with their gut.” ...

Cineverse Trailer for 'With Love and a Major Organ' Romantic Thriller
Image
"What if a broken heart could be fixed... by removing it?" Cineverse has debuted their own trailer for the streaming release of an indie romantic drama titled With Love and a Major Organ, made by filmmaker Kim Albright. It sort of reminds me of The Lobster. This premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival and it already opened last year on VOD, but we missed it during that run. Now that Cineverse will be streaming it on their platform soon, here's the two main trailers. In an alternative universe, human hearts are not made of organic matter but are actually complex, tangible objects. Suppressing one's emotions is not only normal but encouraged. One woman is so distraught over a man she loves, that she decides to rip out her heart for him, only to find that he has run off... Starring Anna Maguire, Hamza Haq, Donna Benedicto, Veena Sood, Arghavan Jenati,...

Image
Exclusive: Utopia’s arthouse distribution label Circle Collective has acquired U.S. rights to the dark comedy With Love and a Major Organ, which debuted in the experimental Visions program last year at SXSW.

Directed by Kim Albright and written by Julia Lederer, who adapted the screenplay from her play of the same name, Circle Collective is eyeing a Spring 2024 release for the title.

And hearts are readily removable. After a meaningful interaction with a stranger in the park George (Hamza Haq), Anabel takes a leap and literally gives her heart to him but does not expect for him to abscond with it.

CinemaBlind’s Review – 60%

The holiday season is finally here and so is Prime Video’s ad-supported streaming service Freevee’s Christmas rom-com film EXmas. Starring Leighton Meester and Robbie Amell in the lead roles, this film works solely because of the charming chemistry shared by all of the cast members, especially the leading duo.

Directed by Jonah Feingold, from a screenplay by Dan Steele, EXmas revolves around Graham (Amell), his family, and his ex-fiancée Ali during the Christmas holiday. When Graham has to work during Christmas he tells his family that he won’t be able to make it home, but despite his work promises he still goes home and finds his ex, who broke up with him sometime ago celebrating Christmas with his family. With Love and a Major Organ Review
Image
With Love and a Major Organ is a funny, surreal, and poignant drama that explores a world where people's hearts are made of individual objects. The film's unique stylized approach, reminiscent of directors like Yorgos Lanthimos, adds depth to its exploration of emotion and conformity. The movie tackles important themes such as the commercialization of self-care and the impact of motherhood, while championing self-discovery and embracing intense emotions.

What starts as a stage-setting metaphor, "My mother used to tell me that her heart was a ball of yarn," soon turns out to be part of the reality in which With Love and a Major Organ is set. This world is much like ours but flattened; everyone wears gray and suppresses any emotion stronger than mild ambivalence. One way in which the two worlds differ strongly, however, is that in this movie, people's hearts are made of individual objects. Moreover, if...
