Have you heard? Pirate Software leaves Ludwig’s company while Lilly Singh’s movie gets distribution
Image
Each week, we handpick a selection of stories to give you a snapshot of trends, updates, business moves, and more from around the creator industry. This week, one creator got back on the job market, another got a deal for her movie, and a third got some chicken in an unexpected location.

Creator commotion

Pirate Software is out at Ludwig’s Offbrand Games. The Blizzard alum turned Twitch streamer, whose real name is Jason “Thor” Hall, chose to leave Offbrand after his dissenting opinion on the “Stop Killing Games” movement caused critics to review-bomb Offbrand’s Rivals of Aether 2. Ludwig already shut down Offbrand’s events wing to focus on game publishing — so what happens next?

Kai Cenat talked to Eric Adams about another NYC giveaway. The Mayor of the Big Apple told Cenat that he could do a giveaway “the right way” after the streamer’s 2023 Union Square event ended in chaos and arrests.

Breaking down the 2026 Golden Globes podcast category: Possible contenders, eligibility requirements, voting timeline
Image
On Wednesday, the Golden Globes released the eligibility rules for the new Best Podcast Award category. The goal of the honor is to celebrate excellence in podcasting by recognizing their "quality, creativity, audience engagement, and impact," but which famous podcasters might be in contention for the prize?

Only those that appear on a curated list of the "Top 25 Podcasts," as determined by Luminate, will be eligible to compete. The company will use a "proprietary methodology designed to objectively evaluate podcasts," based on the following key metrics: audience reach/engagement, financial metrics, and platform visibility/market presence. Nothing in the rules states that eligible podcasts have to be entertainment-related.

Once the 25 podcasts have been determined by Luminate, it's then up to those producers or distributors to submit their podcasts for consideration at the Golden Globes. Those who choose not to submit between the Oct. 1 and Oct. 31 submissions period will not be eligible.

Have you heard? Ice detains Khaby Lame, Cugine serves sandwiches, and playlist creators avoid AI
Image
Each week, we handpick a selection of stories to give you a snapshot of trends, updates, business moves, and more from around the creator industry. This week, one major TikToker had a run-in with the law, another started slinging pies, and some of the app’s other users auditioned for a Hollywood blockbuster.

Creator commotion

Khaby Lame leaves the U.S. after Ice detention. After immigration police accused the most-followed TikToker of overstaying his Visa, he ended his trip to Las Vegas. Lame has designs on become a global entertainment star, but for now, he’s playing soccer in Brazil and laying low for a bit.

Tyipcal Gamer is breaking more Fortnite records. The enterprising creator is building some of the biggest worlds in Fortnite through his studio Jogo. His tribute to departed rapper XXXTentacion got more than 220,000 players, which is a bigger base than Fortnite‘s popular Battle Royale mode.

A trusted financial firm wants creator businesses to bank on Karat
Image
Karat Financial has already launched the first credit card designed with content creators in mind. Now, the Los Angeles-based company is expanding its financial services in a big way. It’s launching Karat Banking, a multifaceted solution for creators who are building their own businesses.

In collaboration with longtime partner Visa, Karat has issued over $1.5 billion in credit and advances through its Business Credit Card. That solution has worked well for high-profile customers like Wendover Productions, Alexandra Botez, and Nick Digiovanni, but the changing nature of the creator economy requires more sophisticated financial tools. Meanwhile, media firms are embracing influencer-style approaches to plug their companies into the creator economy.

As creators launch businesses and marry those operations to their content channels, they need a bank that understands the complexities of their careers. Karat is meeting that need with a banking platform that is “built specifically for this content-native generation of entrepreneurs,...

Want recipes from one of the internet’s favorite chefs? Step into Nick Digiovanni’s kitchen.
Image
Nick Digiovanni has already become one of the most prominent video creators in the internet’s cooking community, but he’s not stopping there. The 29-year-old former MasterChef contestant, who has attracted more than 26 million subscribers on his namesake YouTube channel, is stepping into the world of written recipes. On a new website called Nick’s Kitchen, Digiovanni blends text, images, and video to appeal to both novice chefs and adept gourmands.

At launch, Nick’s Kitchen offers more than 30 recipes, ranging from kitchen basics (hard-boiled eggs) to comfort foods (lasagna) to takeout classics (orange chicken). The header on the Nick’s Kitchen website quotes Ratatouille‘s Chef Gusteau by reminding culinary amateurs that “anyone can cook.” As long as no rats are hiding in Digiovanni’s toque, the reference is a welcome reminder of the creator’s inclusive approach to food content.

Each Nick’s Kitchen recipe is accompanied by a video tutorial.

Creators are redefining food discourse. Now they’re getting their own version of ‘MasterChef’.
Image
A strong performance on MasterChef can help launch a YouTube career — just ask Nick Digiovanni — but can careers built on YouTube translate to MasterChef? That’s the question Banijay Entertainment is asking with MasterChef Creators, a spinoff of the Brazilian version of MasterChef that will air exclusively on YouTube.

Banijay has turned to YouTube stars to find new audiences for some of its formats, and it’s now applying that strategy to MasterChef. The cooking competition comes from Endemol Shine, a Banijay subsidiary, and Endemol teamed up with YouTube to bring a creator-led version of the show to life.

“The partnership between YouTube and Endemol Shine Brasil stems from our Brand Solutions division’s ongoing mission to translate trends, and create relevant initiatives for brands and audiences,” said Google Head of Content Projects Esly Paiva in a statement. “By featuring creators as both hosts and contestants in MasterChef Creators, we...

Nick Digiovanni is trying a new recipe for YouTube content
Image
Nick Digiovanni wants to be the #1 culinary content creator on YouTube. And his channel is in fact one of the biggest: It has over 22 million subscribers, brings north of 400 million views a month, and its library includes collaborations with dozens of celebrities and fellow creators, including Gordon Ramsay, Ryan Trahan, and the late Lynja.

So why did he choose to launch a new channel?

Last Friday, Nick’s Kitchen popped up on YouTube with a 10-minute video showing viewers how to make the perfect mac and cheese. This upload is different from Digiovanni’s usual content; it’s slower-paced and softer-lit, lingering on the moment-by-moment details. It looks more like a Food Network program, with an aproned Digiovanni moving gently around a meticulously decorated kitchen set.

The shift is similar to what we’ve seen from other longtime creators like Rhett & Link, who recently launched their high-production series Wonderhole. The show was a risk,...

Have you heard? Nick Digiovanni set a delicious record and we learned the truth about ‘Hot Ones’
Image
Each week, we handpick a selection of stories to give you a snapshot of trends, updates, business moves, and more from around the creator industry. This week, our roundup is a little bit sweet and a little bit spicy.

Creator commotion

Nick Digiovanni went all Willy Wonka to grab a Guinness World Record. The culinary creator made the world’s largest chocolate bar and donated the delicious result to children in Ecuador. Somewhere, Amaury Guichon just got a new idea for a super-sized chocolate creation.

MrBeast is Napoleon now. In 1798, the French Emperor marched his troops through Egypt after winning the Battle of the Pyramids. In 2024, MrBeast rented out the Pyramids as part of a new video. Is Jimmy Donaldson the great conqueror of his day? Times certainly have changed.

YouTube ad matchmaker Agentio eyes brand safety with $12 million Series A round
Image
For the second time in as many years, Agentio has locked in a funding round to propel its continuing growth in the influencer marketing industry. The matchmaking service, which automates connections between creators and brands on YouTube, has secured a $12 million Series A round led by Benchmark.

Agentio launched its namesake platform last year, providing a way for brands to simplify the influencer marketing process. Rather than operating through multiple channels in a weeks-long process, potential sponsors can use Agentio to connect with like-minded creators through an AI-guided marketplace. CEO Arthur Leopold, who Co-Founded Agentio after serving as the President of Cameo, claimed in a statement that his platform lets brands buy YouTube ad reads “as easily as they buy Meta or Google ads.”

That approach has already attracted notable users on both the brand and creator sides. Buyers like DoorDash, MasterClass, and HelloFresh are hopping into the Agentio marketplace...

YouTube’s pause-vertising is here
Image
Next time you pause a YouTube video you’re watching on a TV screen, you might see something new pop up: an ad. Pause-vertising is already in use by streamers like Hulu, Peacock, and Max, and now YouTube–which recently beat all those services and became the first streamer to gobble up 10% of TV watch time–is giving the format its own try, with the full power of Google‘s ad targeting.

YouTube first announced it would try pause ads at Brandcast 2023, and brought them up again at Brandcast 2024. We were at both events, and can confirm the format was well-received by marketing and industry attendees, with raucous rounds of applause.

But how’s it going to be received by users, now that it’s rolling out?

Well, people almost never like having to see more ads, so the initial responses on Reddit and X are lukewarm at best. But pause ads,...

Hot Ones and Blippi are the latest YouTubers to get store shelf deals
Image
More YouTube creator brands are coming to major stores near you: interview series Hot Ones is collabing with Panda Express, and kids’ entertainer Blippi is putting out a shoe with Reebok.

These deals are, well, a big deal. Brands collaborate with creators every day, with an ever-increasing number of them recognizing the power of influencer marketing, but it’s a significant step up in commitment for companies to go from paying for a few sponsored posts to them putting a YouTuber-branded product in their stores. This is a growing trend especially in food & bev, with brands like Zaxby’s and Dunkin’ already snagging MrBeast, Nick Digiovanni, and SypherPK to release their own menu items.

Hot Ones joins them with Blazing Bourbon Chicken, a boneless chicken bites dish that’s bathed in its signature Last Dab Apollo sauce. Interesting note: Hot Ones says Last Dab is the only hot sauce in the...

Dunkin’s all in on creator collabs with Nick Digiovanni’s new four-drink menu
Image
The fast food world has embraced our industry more and more over the past four years, from Dunkin‘s partnership with Charli D’Amelio to the MrBeast x Zaxby’s collab to Chipotle and Shake Shack launching menu items inspired by TikTokers’ hacks.

Dunkin’ has been particularly zeroed in on content creators, and was possibly the first big fast food brand to welcome them onto its menu. When it launched The Charli in 2020, it sold hundreds of thousands of D’Amelio-branded drinks in just five days, and saw a 57% spike in app downloads.

That collab clearly left an impression, because not only did it continue working with Charli, but last month, it announced food creator Nick Digiovanni and streamer SypherPK are some of its first-ever “Dunkin’Terns,” aka brand ambassadors whose goal is to “put a Dunkin’ Iced beverage in every hand this summer with a winning combination of great-tasting cold drinks and unexpected collaborations.

MrBeast crosses 300 million YouTube subscribers. He got 50 of the top creators in the world to compete for $1 million to (kinda) celebrate.
Image
Jimmy Donaldson and his MrBeast YouTube channel are on a recent spree of checking off lifetime online video accomplishments like they’re something on a daily to-do list.

Pass T-Series to become the most subscribed YouTube channel of all time. MrBeast passed the Indian multimedia conglomerate on June 2, 2024, 1,876 days after T-Series passed PewDiePie to claim #1 spot. Claim 28 million subscribers in one month on YouTube. In his stratospheric ascent to have the #1 most subscribed YouTube channel in the world, Donaldson racked up an incredible 28 million additional subscribers in June 2024. But what’s almost unbelievable is 24 million of the 28 million subscribers came after MrBeast had already surpassed T-Series. Become the first YouTube channel ever to cross 300 million subscribers. It only took Jimmy 38 days to go from 270 million (when MrBeast passed T-Series) to 300 million subscribers. That averages out to 789,473 subscribers per day, 32,894 per hour, 548 per minute, and 9.137 subscribers every second. Make his “biggest...

How Gordon Ramsay’s ‘MasterChef’ Is Playing a Culinary Game Between Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z in Season 14
Image
Fourteen seasons in, Gordon Ramsay’s Fox cooking competition “MasterChef” has found a way to reinvent itself once more: pitting generation against generation in a battle that will prove whether baby boomers, Gen X, millennials or Gen Z cooks have culinary supremacy.

Debuting Wednesday at 8 p.m., “MasterChef” Season 14 will begin with the audition rounds for the contestants that qualify as millennials (a group that usually encompasses those born between 1980-1994), followed by episodes devoted to whittling down the boomers (1946-1964), Gen X (1965-1979) and Gen Z (1995-2009) competitors.

For each of these rounds, judges Ramsay, Aarón Sánchez and Joe Bastianich will be joined by a culinary expert guest judge who has been brought on this season to evaluate their own generation: Priya Krishna for millennials, Lidia Bastianich for Boomers, Nick Digiovanni for Gen Z and Christina Ha for Gen X.

As for Show of the Year, that went to Michelle Khare and her daredevil series Challenge Accepted.

The 2023 Streamy Awards honored the best in content creation on social media and Dylan Mulvaney took the trophy for Breakout Creator.

Mulvaney went viral after receiving backlash from conservative media over promoting Bud Light.

“532 days ago, I made a coming-out video that turned into my ‘Days of Girlhood’ series, and my life has been changed for the better,” she continued. “But on the flip side, there’s also been an extreme amount of transphobia and hate, and I know that my community is feeling it.”

Mulvaney ended her speech with a nod to the controversy saying, “I’m gonna go have...
