What Happens To Zendaya's Chani In The Dune Books
Image
This post contains spoilers for the "Dune" book series.

Dennis Villeneuve's "Dune" doesn't open with an aerial view of Caladan or an introductory shot of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet). Instead, we hear a voice: Chani (Zendaya) sets the tone for the "Dune" saga to come by talking about her home planet, Arrakis, and how beautiful it is. However, she is quick to underline the looming threat of colonizers and the disenfranchisement of the Fremen. "The outsiders ravage our lands in front of our eyes[...] Their cruelty to my people is all I've known," she states, rooting us in her perspective by prefacing Paul's story with a dire warning.

Our first impression of Chani through Paul's eyes — both in Frank Herbert's book "Dune" and Villeneuve's first "Dune" movie — is in the form of dreams. Paul's budding prescience makes him dream of Arrakis even before he sets foot on the desert planet,...

Karla Sofía Gascón releases yet another statement on offensive social media posts: ‘I am not racist’
Image
For the third time in as many days, Emilia Pérez star and Best Actress nominee Karla Sofía Gascón released a statement that sought to contextualize several offensive social media posts she wrote over the last five years. “The first thing I would like to do is to sincerely apologize to all those who have felt bad about the way I have expressed myself at any stage of my life,” Gascón wrote Saturday on Instagram.

Adding that she has “many things to learn in this world,” Gascón wrote, “Life has taught me something I never wanted to learn: it is clear to me that as much as your message is one, without using the correct words, it becomes another.”

“I have gone from living a normal life to a life at the top of my profession in just six months, now my responsibility is very great because my voice does not...

“It’ll be the best of the three”: Denis Villeneuve’s Best Sci-Fi Movie Has the Perfect Blueprint for ‘Dune 3’ That Must Not Be a Blockbuster
Image
Dune 3 is not going to be like the ending of any normal trilogy, revealed Denis Villeneuve. After two great successes adapting the first Dune novel in two parts, there is a lot of anticipation for the director’s next installment, and fans are happy to see that the director already has the right idea.

Dune 3 has a very promising start already, with fans very interested in seeing how the story sees Paul Atreides’ narrative arc through, especially given that characters were not necessarily in similar positions to what we saw in the novels.

Fans are happy to see that Denis Villeneuve is already working towards the correct goal Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson in a still from Dune: Part Two | Credits: Warner Bros. Pictures

Rumor: Dune 4 is in development and Warner Bros. is mulling more Dune TV series
Image
We may be spending a lot more time on Arrakis in the coming years. According to a rumor circulating the internet, Warner Bros. Discovery is considering more Dune movies and television shows to keep viewers hooked on the spice.

2024 was a big year for Dune, the sweeping science fiction franchise birthed by author Frank Herbert. On the movie front, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. released Dune: Part Two, where visionary director Denis Villeneuve adapted the second half of Herbert's seminal 1965 novel for the big screen. On television, we got Dune: Prophecy, an HBO/Max spinoff prequel series set 10,000 years before the movies which depicted the rise of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood.

Both of these iterations of Dune were massively successful, enough that Warner Bros. is powering full steam ahead on more. Villeneuve is hard at work on a third Dune movie, which will adapt Herbert's book Dune Messiah; meanwhile,...

The Passion of the Christ Sequel Could Become an Offensive Disaster
Image
Mel Gibson's past controversial behavior in the early 2000s divided audiences when it came to the Hollywood star. Jim Caviezal's role as Christ in Gibson's upcoming film adds to the potential controversy surrounding the project. Despite Gibson's commitment to sobriety, his questionable choices in film and associations may harm his reputation further.

Please, Mel Gibson... don't do this again. It's already taken us a while to forgive you for the drunken, virulently anti-semitic comments during a traffic stop in Malibu in 2006, not to mention the threatening and highly racist and misogynist voicemails he left for his ex, Oksana Grigorieva in 2010 also while very drunk. Should we mention his odd lineage of films that seem to always make him a victim of torture? Then there's the original take on the life of Jesus Christ, The Passion of the Christ, which couldn't help but implicate Jewish religious leaders in the death of the Christian Messiah.

Denis Villeneuve in Dune: Part Two (2024)
Dune 3 | Release confirmed for late 2026; could its title be something other than Dune: Messiah?
Denis Villeneuve in Dune: Part Two (2024)
An IMAX presentation confirms that Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 3 is to release in 2026, though there’s a potential question mark over its Dune: Messiah title…

In the same IMAX presentation that announced the potential title of Steven Spielberg’s next movie – that’d be The Dish – it was also confirmed that Denis Villeneuve will indeed have a third Dune film in cinemas by the end of 2026.

Reports have been circulating for a while that Villeneuve is making a second Dune sequel next, with Warner stating in early July that it has an ‘event film’ from the director scheduled for the 18th December 2026. Hollywood sources all suggested that the mystery film was Dune: Messiah, despite Villeneuve’s earlier suggestions that he might tackle a different project first.

IMAX’s presentation for investors confirms those earlier rumours, though there’s also another interesting detail to be gleaned from the slideshow: it simply...

Dune 3 Being Villeneuve's Final Entry Is Perfect
Image
Denis Villeneuve planned a Dune trilogy with Dune Messiah as the conclusion, providing narrative closure. The Dune franchise can remain self-contained and avoid fatigue with a coherent story. Villeneuve may step away from the main directorial spotlight but still contribute to future Dune adaptations.

Dune: Part Three, currently slated for a 2026 release window, aligns perfectly with director Denis Villeneuve's narrative options for a definitive conclusion to his Dune story. When Villeneuve announced he'd adapt Frank Herbert's beloved novel, Dune, into a feature film, it was met with eager anticipation. Its success helped build anticipation for the 2024 follow-up, Dune: Part II, which received rave reviews at the box office. Accordingly, the buzz around a third film is just as loud. This, however, raises an interesting dilemma over at what point the films' stories should come to a satisfying conclusion.

The Dune books' story is spread out across more than 20 novels,...

Image
The clues coming out of the film world point toward a third film happening in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune franchise. According to industry insider, Dune 3 is all set to begin filming next year. Warner Bros. has also hinted at the film’s development when they announced an untitled film’s release in December 2026.

While Villeneuve expressed his interest in returning for a third film, he shared that he would stay away from Arrakis for a while before coming back. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part 2 was met with unending praise upon its release and fans are eagerly waiting to see where the franchise is headed next. The development of Dune 3 has already been confirmed officially by none other than the director himself. But wait! There’s more to the update. The next film in the series will take inspiration from Frank Herbert’s book, Dune Messiah.

'They're Tremendously Jealous': Dune 2 Director Says Nsfw Popcorn Bucket Outdoes Deadpool & Wolverine
Image
While time will tell whether Dune: Part Two gets outdone by Deadpool & Wolverine at the box office, Denis Villeneuve is sure the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't beating his sequel in one aspect. The Part Two director hails his film's "unmatchable" popcorn bucket after Deadpool & Wolverine recently debuted its own.

Speaking with CTV's Etalk, Villeneuve accused Deadpool & Wolverine of being "tremendously jealous" of Part Two's sandworm-inspired bucket, insisting his movie beats it when it comes to design and shock value. "They are tremendously jealous of our bucket," Villeneuve said. "They tried their best to bring something horrific to the world, but the Dune bucket is unmatchable." When pressed about the bucket, Villeneuve denied he disliked Deadpool & Wolverine's bucket, but called Part Two's design "one of a kind."

Dune 3 Must End The Franchise (Despite All The Other Books)
Image
Dune 3 will conclude Denis Villeneuve's movie adaptations of Frank Herbert's first two Dune books, providing a proper adaptation of his story. Villeneuve's movies focus on actual people, their relationships, and their emotions, making Herbert's later, weirder books incompatible. Villeneuve's three-movie structure is the best approach, as it allows for a compact, visually consistent, and faithful adaptation, with Dune Messiah as its end-point.

Dune 3 will round out Warner Bros. Pictures' movie adaptations of Frank Herbert's first two Dune books, and despite all the other novels in his series, this is the right way to end the franchise. Denis Villeneuve is turning the first two books, Dune and Dune Messiah, into a movie trilogy. Dune: Part One debuted back in 2021, and Dune: Part Two is set to release in fall 2023. Villeneuve is not the first person to bring Herbert’s story to the screen. Dune was initially adapted in 1984 by David Lynch,...

Dune Part Two: What We Want to See in the Highly-Anticipated Sci-Fi Sequel
Image
We're coming closer and closer every day to the second part of Denis Villeneuve's epic film adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel of the same name, Dune. Considered one of the most unfilmable books ever, several filmmakers had tried to convert Herbert's amazing universe from page to screen, but they all failed until Villeneuve's film managed the impossible, earning the praise of fans and critics, receiving ten whole Oscar nominations and taking home six for Warner Brothers.

Villeneuve succeeded because he wisely chose to split Herbert's first and most famous novel into two separate parts. The first part follows Paul of House Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), who has lost his father Leto (Oscar Isaac) to House Harkonnen and control of the desert planet Arrakis – the source of the powerful melange, which fuels faster-than-light space travel. He, along with his mother Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), were then adopted into a native Fremen sietch,...

Dune 2 Will Be an Argument Against Superheroes
Image
There are some who see Denis Villeneuve's new film as a kind of cinematic savior from the comic book-inspired films dominating the box office. In a way, it makes sense, especially considering the Frank Herbert story that inspired it. As such, Dune: Part Two will be an argument against the idea of superheroes.

The story of Dune takes place over a series of novels, of which the first three are most central to Herbert's thesis on demagoguery. Those who skipped even the Wikipedia page for the books watched the first Dune film and bristled at the explicit "white savior" story it set up. In fairness, it's a trope far too common in genre storytelling, even in the 21st Century. This is also not the first adaptation of the beginning of the story, considering David Lynch's controversial Dune movie. Only the two-season series that aired when the SyFy...

‘The Peripheral’: Prime Video Drops New Trailer For Sci-Fi From Jonathan Nolan And Lisa Joy
Image
Prime Video dropped the latest trailer for The Peripheral, the long-gestating sci-fi drama from Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan’s Kilter Films that’s based on the bestselling novel by William Gibson. The cast and producers made an appearance at New York Comic-Con today to hype the series that premieres Oct. 21.

“When I read the book Count Zero [by Gibson], it felt like a first hit of acid. I never experienced anything like the worlds that Gibson created,” Nolan told convention goers Saturday. “I’ve watched every filmmaker rip off all the ideas, myself included, from his works and no one actually had the guts to go and adapt from the source. For us, it felt like coming full circle.”

Ezra Miller demanded Susan Sarandon pay tribute at a Flash altar – seriously
Image
Hey, anybody know what Ezra Miller has been up to? Oh, wow, really? Well, let’s add one more story to the pot while we’re here. This one involves actress Susan Sarandon–didn’t see that one coming, did ya?

According to a new Vanity Fair profile on Flash star Ezra Miller, a recent snub from the Academy Award-winning actress led to a particularly odd request. As per a friend of Ezra Miller’s, “Ezra freaked out recently…demanding that Susan Sarandon come pay tribute to his altar because she didn’t invite Ezra to a dinner party.”

This altar at Ezra Miller’s Vermont home supposedly “contains an altar that’s home to bullets, weed, sage, and Flash figurines.” And, who knew, the babe from Bull Durham is buddies with the next Messiah!

Ezra Miller
A new Vanity Fair profile of actor Ezra Miller, who is currently undergoing therapy for their self-admitted “complex mental health issues,” paints a picture of a person who is not only dangerous, manipulative and abusive, but also, according to his ex-fiancée, has “illusions of grandeur.”

In the last two years, Miller has had frequent run-ins with the law following reports of multiple assaults, a felony theft and child endangerment. Two restraining orders have been issued in two states, but Miller remains free and Warner Bros. is still planning to release “The Flash,” despite the mounting incidents.

After facing felony burglary charges in Vermont in August, Miller issued the following statement: “Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior.
