Chennai, March 19 (Ians) Three-time Asia Pacific Rally Champion Gaurav Gill of Jk Tyre Racing played a strategic game with controlled aggression and won the Fia Aprc Asia Rally Cup comfortably with a big margin at the Madras International Circuit in slushy conditions here on Sunday.

The Aprc Asian Rally was run concurrently alongside the 46th South India Rally, which is the first round of the Fmsci Indian National Rally Championship.

The 41-year-old Delhi daredevil, Gaurav Gill with Aniruddha Rangnekar who is also a seven-time Indian National Rally Championship winner, built a huge lead on Saturday and nurtured it with a mature drive on the slippery stages filled with water pools, and used all his experience and knowledge of conditions to beat the Thailand pair of Mana Pornsiricherd and Meenil Thanyaphat of Toyota Rally Team by 49 seconds.

Chennai, March 18 (Ians) Arjuna Awardee and three-time Asia Pacific Rally Championship (Aprc) winner, Gaurav Gill and co-driver Aniruddha Rangnekar piloted the Subaru Impreza with admirable control and authority after the rain in the Avisa stage made the dirt track slippery in the Fia Aprc Asia Rally Cup here on Saturday.

Their efforts help them garner a comfortable lead at the end of Day 2 at the Madras International Circuit here.

Gill, the rain-master, established a handsome lead of 1min 18 seconds over his main opposition, Thailand’s Mana Pornsiricherd (co-driver Menil Thanyaphat) of the Toyota Rally Team, in the penultimate stage of the day.

Chennai, March 16 (Ians) There is palpable excitement and expectations of high-octane action as the 46th South India Rally, the first round of the Fmsci Indian National Rally Championship 2023, gets underway here on Friday, with a massive field of 63 entries.

The three-day event, being organised by the Madras Motor Sports Club that is celebrating its 70th anniversary, and will be run concurrently with the second round of the Fia Asia Pacific Rally Championship (Asia Rally Cup) which has attracted 15 entries, including the Toyota Rally team from Thailand.

Reigning National champion from Bengaluru, Karna Kadur and co-driver Nikhil Pai, who also won last year’s Asia Rally Cup round here, will be headlining both Inrc and Aprc fields in an Arka Motorsports-prepared Volkswagen Polo.

Tumakuru, Dec 2 (Ians) Championship leader Karna Kadur of Bengaluru and second-placed Gaurav Gill face off in another battle for the lead in the 46th Karnataka-1000 rally, the third round of the Fmsci Indian National Rally Championship, which was flagged off here on Friday.

The Karnataka-1000 rally, which has attracted 65 entries, is being organised by the Karnataka Motor Sports Club under the aegis of Fmsci, the governing body of motorsports in India and promoted by Blueband Sports. The rally was flagged off by former Minister S. Shivanna to signal the start of the event which will be run near here over two days starting Saturday (Dec 3).

Following a reconnaissance run this morning of the Special Stages, most of the competitors expressed happiness at the terrain which was variously described as fast, flowing and technical.
