We have an exclusive clip from Adam Finberg's sci-fi thriller, Star People, starring actor and recording artist Kat Cunning. Their fiction narrative uses the largest mass UFO sighting in U.S. history, The Phoenix Lights, as the basis for their story. On March 13, 1997, thousands of people in Arizona witnessed the largest mass UFO sighting in U.S. history—now famously known as The Phoenix Lights. Among them was 10-year-old Claire, who felt as if the lights called to her. Years later, Claire, now a photographer, is still chasing that moment, hoping to capture the lights on camera and finally make sense of what she saw. When a mysterious tip leads her deep into the Arizona desert during a deadly heatwave with her UFO streamer...

Some events lodge themselves in your memory. For writer-director Adam Finberg’s protagonist, Claire, that event was the 1997 Phoenix Lights. As a child, she saw something inexplicable in the Arizona sky, an image that has defined her adult life as a photographer, a life punctuated by seizures and a quiet obsession.
She isn’t just seeking proof; she is looking for meaning. When a tip suggests the lights have returned, she drives into the desert with her troubled brother, Taylor, and her boyfriend, Justin, a UFO influencer chasing his next viral video. What begins as a search for aliens quickly reveals itself to be a much deeper expedition into both the desert’s wilderness and the wilderness of memory.

Mediapro’s fledgling North American studio unveiled a raft of new movies, series, docs and formats in a news-packed MIPCOM keynote this morning. John Turturro delivered a video address and spoke about his adaptation of Is There No Place on Earth for Me? as the Spanish media giant made a series of statement announcements.
Having unveiled Mediapro North America six months ago, CEO Laura Espeso introduced the session. Jc Acosta, Head of the Mediapro Studio U.S. & Canada, proceeded to unveil the LA, New York and Miami-based North American division of the Spanish company.
For Espeso, the move is more than just a push into another market. “It has the potential to resonate globally, influencing cultures and trends worldwide,” she told Deadline’s Stewart Clarke on stage at MIPCOM. “There is no way we will miss this opportunity. We have been working on this for the past 10 years.”

As befits its two rising rap artists who are constantly rethinking and remaking themselves in pursuit of success, “Rap Sh!t” Season 2 has a whole new look. The Max series created by Issa Rae and staring Aida Osman and KaMillion as Shawna and Mia spent its first season being as inventive as its characters, emphasizing the reels, FaceTimes, and social media chaos that they leverage to secure interest (if not paydays) from the music industry establishment. Season 2 doesn’t expand so much as explode the visual scope of the series, focusing on Shawna and Mia’s offline lives.
“We’re peeling back the layers, and we’re going deeper and we’re kind of living with these characters in real time a little more,” showrunner Syreeta Singleton told IndieWire. “So I feel like there was a lot of flexibility and freedom to kind of create a new look.”

Any artist will tell you that “making it” is a myth. Whether it’s music, dance, acting, writing, or anything else — there’s no point at which most people with a creative passion feel it entirely achieved and therefore no longer a priority. Ambition is a hungry beast with a growing appetite, and the standards for success change at every level — and differ between friends and collaborators, testing them every step of the way.
It’s a truth baked into Issa Rae’s “Rap Sh!t,” which premiered its second season on November 9. Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion) are officially going on tour as a group, still miles from the kind of fame and acclaim they dream of, but clearly moving forward, even with a few steps back. “Rap Sh!t,” like “Atlanta” before it, doesn’t shy away from the girls’ increasing respect and access, but reminds viewers that the hardship isn’t over.

"I'm not very good with temptation..." Blue Fox Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror film titled The Mistress, from filmmaker Greg Pritikin. This premiered at a couple of regional film festivals last year, and will be getting a VOD release at the end of July this summer. Newlyweds move into their dream home where they discover 100-year-old letters from a young woman who committed suicide after being abandoned by the owner. Parker struggles with ghostly disturbances, while Maddie suspects he's hiding something dark from his past. John Magaro co-stars with Chasten Harmon, plus Kat Cunning, Aylya Marzolf, Alexandra Grey, James Carpinello, and Rae Dawn Chong. This looks a bit generic, retreading familiar territory in so many other horror flicks. But at least is has Magaro getting super freaky. // Continue Reading ›...

"I love the way you look at him – just, so, real." Is it, though?? Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a very cheesy romance titled Purple Hearts, which plays as a jingoistic love story about a marine and his wife. In spite of their many differences, Cassie, a struggling singer-songwriter, and Luke, a troubled marine, agree to marry solely for the military benefits (mainly the health insurance?). But when tragedy strikes, the line between real and pretend begins to blur. And they must attempt to see if they really do love each other or not. The film stars Sofia Carson as Cassie and Nicholas Galitzine as Luke, with Chosen Jacobs, Kat Cunning, Linden Ashby, Anthony Ippolito, John Harlan Kim, Sarah Rich, & Scott Deckert. This looks as bad as the Hallmark movies that we get every year, with some seriously sappy romance with nothing unique or compelling about the story either.
