Keanu Reeves Is an Angel Sent To Save Seth Rogen & Aziz Ansari in First Trailer for 'Good Fortune'
Image
As horrifying as it would be in real life, body-swapping films are some of the most hilarious productions. At some point, everyone has imagined what their lives would be like if they switched places with someone more fortunate, especially when they're struggling. From Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan's Freaky Friday to Regina Hall and Marsai Martin's Little, waking up in someone else's body would be haunting, but watching it on screen is pure comedy. The latest swap film comes from Aziz Ansari, who also stars in the movie and wrote, produced, and directed it. Good Fortune is the name, and Keanu Reeves is the angel sent to teach a lesson to Ansari's character Arj that the grass isn't always greener on the other side, as he switches bodies with Seth Rogen's Jeff.

In the film's new trailer, which comes courtesy of Lionsgate Movies, viewers are introduced to Reeves's Gabriel,...

Viola Davis Proves Critics Wrong as Her Action Thriller Breaks Streaming Records
Image
Viola Davis' most recent film, which sees her portray the President of the United States, has become a streaming hit despite mixed reviews. The Oscar-winning actor's action thriller, G20, set an all-time record on Amazon Prime Video just months after its premiere.

According to Deadline,G20 has attracted over 50 million viewers since its streaming debut in April, making it one of the 10 most-watched movies in Prime Video history. Viola Davis' 56% Rotten Tomatoes Spy Movie Just Broke a Major Streaming Record
Image
The world's newest fictional president has just broken a major record on a streaming platform: Amazon MGM Studio's action spy film G20, which stars Viola Davisas an American president who gets caught up in a terrorist plot, has become one of the 10 most-watched films of all time on the studio's flagship streaming service, Prime Video. This puts it in good company despite the fact that the film garnered only modest reviews.

At the time of this article's publication, G20, which released on April 10, has garnered over 50 million views on Prime Video, according to Deadline. Additionally, the film reportedly rocketed to the top spot on the Nilesen charts during its debut week, with 516 million minutes of the film streamed. This is despite the fact that the film was not that well-liked from critics or audiences; G20 currently holds only a 56% critic's score and 46% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. But it seems...

'G20' Becomes a Record-Breaking Streaming Hit on Prime Video
Image
Viola Davis has the kind of star power that's not often seen nowadays. She gives off classic Hollywood vibes, not becoming too accessible to the public, keeping her personal life private, but is seen just enough to keep fans wanting more. The Academy Award-winner not only becomes a character, but she also ensures audiences see her as the character and not the beloved star behind the role. From The Woman King to Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Fences, The Suicide Squad, The Help, and more, there's no placing Davis in a box. This year, she lept into action courtesy of Amazon, and has found huge success on streaming.

Earlier this year, playing President Sutton in the Amazon MGM Studios film G20was added to her list of stellar performances, and the film has been a massive hit on Prime Video since its April 10, 2025, release date. According to Deadline, the Davis-led film...

He is "the youngest member of the Silver family and is in law enforcement like his mother and sisters, each of whom is formidable in their own ways," reads the official character description. Viola Davis at an event for Suicide Squad (2016)
The latest action feature that proves, yet again, that Viola Davis is a damn good action star is G20. In it, she takes on the role of the President of the United States. Except she can throw down with the best of them. Directed by Patricia Riggen, you can certainly see the love the filmmaker has for the classic “Christmas” flick Die Hard. Instead of an off-duty officer, we have the Potus, who is willing to do anything to keep her family safe – as well as everybody else. It’s a fun flick, one that manages to bring a whole lot of baddies to the surface after a terrorist organization takes over the G20 summit. The film also stars Anthony Anderson, Christopher Farrar, and Marsai Martin as the First Family. If you are looking for a little escape, check out Viola kicking butt this weekend.

Recently, we spoke with Patricia Riggen,...

As the former friends are forced to navigate a working relationship so fraught it's an Hr nightmare, Jimmy (Emmy winner and series co-creator Paul W. Anthony Anderson yells at Michael Strahan after warning about ‘running amok’ on GMA
Anthony Anderson at an event for Shrek Forever After (2010)
Anthony Anderson took over Good Morning America, and Michael Strahan couldn’t do anything to stop him.

The recent GMA episode featured the Black-ish and G20 actor stopping by to chat with Michael, George Stephanopoulos, Rebecca Jarvis, and Lara Spencer.

Things got off to a hot start as Anthony shared that he showed up at the studio around the same time as the staff.

“I showed up when y’all showed up. I never been on this hour of Good Morning America!” he exclaimed as Michael tried to introduce him.

“You never cease to amaze us. You always got somethin’!” the GMA anchor told him as the interview began.

Anthony revealed that the car came to pick him up at his hotel at 6:45 a.m., but he had just walked into the hotel at 6:30 a.m., putting him in what Michael called “dangerous territory.”

Anthony told Michael he...

G20 Review — Riveting Start, Crushing End for Viola Davis Action Vehicle
Image
While watching G20, you might think of Air Force One—except instead of the world’s most famous airplane, the action takes place in a grand hotel. Viola Davis is just as enthralling in the lead role as Harrison Ford was in Wolfgang Petersen’s classic. However, the film’s most significant issue is its unevenness, likely due to too many rewrites.

Another problem: in a genre film like this, you need a strong villain. G20’s antagonist is one-note—not bland, but purely manic. It’s hard to feel or understand their plight, even though the character keeps repeating it repeatedly, like pulling the string on a talking doll. And with a movie that has suspenseful action, the ending is a letdown when it needed a repeatable, spectacularly over-the-top ending as ridiculous as the promise.

Marsai Martin on Navigating the Transition From Child Producer to Mogul in the Making: ‘I’ve Learned What It Takes to Become a Legend’
Image
Marsai Martin’s transition from child producer to 20-year-old mogul has made her wise beyond her years

“I was still so small. I didn’t even know what I was really walking into. I didn’t feel nervous at all,” Marsai Martin tells Variety, looking back at her early years in the business. “Nine-year-old me had the confidence to walk into any room.”

That self-assurance helped the gifted actor make history, becoming the youngest person to sign a first-look deal at a studio at 14 years old. The pact came about after the preteen produced a comedy, “Little,” that she pitched to Universal when she was nine. Martin co-starred with Regina Hall and Issa Rae in the 2019 film, which was a modest hit, earning $48 million at the global box office.

Now 20, Martin admits that the subsequent years in the rough-and-tumble entertainment business left some bruises. She scored with the 2022 sports comedy “Fantasy Football” on Paramount+,...

G20 Review: Viola Davis has her guns out in Prime Video’s formulaic action movie
Image
Plot: U.S. President Danielle Sutton must defend her family, fellow leaders and the world when the G20 summit in Cape Town, South Africa is taken over by terrorists

Review: I grew up in the era of Arnold, Stallone, Jcvd, Bruce Willis, and, yes, Steven Seagal. Action movies of the 1980s and 1990s had a different flavor than today, but seeing an actor play the President of the United States and kicking terrorists or alien asses was always a fun and exploitative experience. It is impossible to avoid that surge of patriotism as Harrison Ford said, “Get off my plane,” or Bill Pullman declared, “Today we celebrate our Independence Day.” In recent years, Gerard Butler and Channing Tatum have played agents protecting the President and garnering their own action-hero status. Still, it will never replace Potus wielding a gun or beating the hell out of a bad guy. The Prime...

Anthony Anderson on How Prime Video's 'G20' Handles Black Representation
Image
Prime Video's latest action movie G20 sees Viola Davis kicking some serious terrorist butt as U.S. President Danielle Sutton in what promises to be one heck of a thriller. Along for the ride is her co-star, Anthony Anderson, who portrays the First Gentleman, Derek Sutton. As we all know, there's already been a Black family in the White House by way of the Obamas, yet for some, the idea is still something they struggle with. For Anderson, however, he believes that the Black representation in the film "shouldn’t be a surprise" at this point.

Speaking with MovieWeb's own George Edelman, Anderson was joined by his fellow G20 stars Marsai Martin and Christopher Farrar to discuss various aspects of their new action movie. The subject of Black representation came up, and how everyone went about handling it in the Prime Video flick, which premieres on April 10. The portrayal of...

‘G20’ Review: President Viola Davis Beats Up Economy-Crashing Baddies in Ramshackle ‘Die Hard’ Riff
Image
Viola Davis is one of the most accomplished actors of her generation. Come to think of it, she’s one of the most accomplished actors of any generation. Respected, beloved, she’s given her heart and soul to powerful dramas that enrich the human spirit. But sometimes she also wants to beat the crap out of bad guys, and gosh danged it, good for her. Every great actor should get their own “Die Hard” knockoff at least once. I’d pay good money to watch Glenn Close kick the crap out of mercenaries on a zeppelin, wouldn’t you?

“G20” isn’t remotely as powerful, thrilling, or groundbreaking as “The Woman King,” but that’s a tall order. It stars Viola Davis as President Danielle Sutton, a war hero about to introduce a new plan at the international G20 summit to save impoverished people the world over by some-something-something cryptocurrency.

‘G20’ Review: Viola Davis Does Her Swaggering Part as a President Under Duress in Silly but Serviceable Prime Video Popcorn Thriller
Image
In G20, Viola Davis joins the pantheon of action heroes tasked with saving the world from a catastrophe. The Oscar-winning actress plays Danielle Sutton, a steely veteran, mother of two and president of the United States. When we meet the leader of the free world, she’s tensely battling with her 17-year-old daughter Serena (Marsai Martin) after the angsty teenager snuck out to party at a Georgetown bar.

How Serena managed to outwit her Secret Service agents and end up on the late night news shows vexes Sutton, who’s trying to maintain a flawless and relatively low-key reputation as the first Black woman president of the North American nation. In that way, G20, directed by Patricia Riggen and streaming April 10 on Prime Video, feels like a relic of a timeline in which Vice President Kamala Harris’ future in the Oval Office seemed all but assured. The film weaves the...

‘G20’ Review: Viola Davis Emerges Unscathed From a Preposterous President-as-Action-Hero Movie
Image
From “The Woman King” to Madam President, Viola Davis’ growing roster of fierce commander-in-chief roles reveals a star who takes the words “leading lady” literally, no matter what skepticism audiences may show. The internet seems to have rolled its collective eyes at the idea of Davis in ’90s-style action showcase “G20,” but there’s no actor on earth who could play such a gung-ho U.S. president without some degree of blowback … since there’s no president in U.S. history who’d stand a chance against a G20 summit-disrupting psycho determined to crash the global economy. (Supply your own tariff joke here.)

Clearly reflecting the other candidate in the most recent election, Davis does a fine job of embodying Danielle Sutton, a war hero whose military training and protect-the-little-guy instincts make her an ideal foil for the ruthless Rutledge (Antony Starr). Rutledge has a plan to turn $70 million in...

‘G20’ Review: A Butt-Kicking President Viola Davis Takes on AI-Obsessed Cryptobros in Throwback Action Outing
Image
Some details might be lacking in Patricia Riggen’s Prime Video action outing “G20”. Like, hey, what political party does our red-dressed heroine president (billed by some as a “warmonger”) but also, notably, a woman of color, obsessed with a plan to help failing African countries, identify as? But for audiences willing to put this and other queries to the side, the streaming feature delivers.

Mostly, “G20” has two major points in its favor, right out of the gate: a super-fun premise for an action film (what if money-mad mercenaries seized the 20 most powerful leaders of the world and demanded some really insane shit?) and a star both so good and so classy that it never feels as if she’s punching below her weight class. Star and producer Viola Davis brings gravitas and charisma to every role, and so while she’s thrilling to watch in the non-action moments...

Viola Davis Doesn’t Think Her ‘G20’ Black Woman Potus Requires “Suspension Of Disbelief”
Image
With her new presidential action flick G20, Viola Davis understands the desire to politicize her role.

Noting they made the movie before Kamala Harris lost the 2024 election to Donald Trump, the Oscar winner can see “probably in hindsight” how her butt-kicking politician character President Danielle Sutton might make voters long for what could have been.

“I do not think it’s a suspension of disbelief to imagine someone who looks like me as the president,” Davis told UK’s The Times.

Davis also explained why President Sutton’s political party is never clarified in the film. “If you get down to the nitty gritty, we just wanna reach people,” she said of the movie, hitting theaters April 10.

Although her onscreen counterpart is undeclared, Davis endorsed Harris for president in November, narrating the former Democratic vice president’s ‘Mother‘ campaign video.

Viola Davis Took on a Kick-Ass American President Role in ‘G20’ to ‘Get Back to the Fun’ of Acting
Image
Though known for her devastating performances in “Fences” — for which she won an Academy Award — and 2011’s “The Help,” Viola Davis knows that longevity in the acting profession means mixing it up from time to time. That’s why for her most recent outing in “G20,” she decided to kick some ass. As a deadly American President taking on a group of terrorists who’ve laid siege to a summit of world leaders, Davis is embracing her Liam Neeson “Taken”-era, largely, she said in a recent interview with The Times of London, due to her need to have some fun.

“Training, speech, technique, critics — there’s a sense of torture that you almost have to make peace with,” she said of her career in acting. “But internally you’re always trying to get back to the fun.”

Adding later of how “G20” provided that, Davis said, “I needed some levity in my life.
