YouTube Makes Select Premium Series Free To Watch Amid Ongoing Quarantining
Joey Graceffa
YouTube Premium has moved a huge swath of subscription-only content in front of its paywall.

Variety reports that the video giant opted to make the move in light of the coronavirus pandemic, as fellow content purveyors like HBO and Amazon Prime Video are also offering select programming for free to home-quarantined viewers.

The roughly dozen series that are being made available by YouTube include: Joey Graceffa’s semi-scripted mystery saga Escape The Night (seasons one through four), as well as Step Up: High Water (seasons one and two), the Jenn McAllister-starring Foursome (seasons one and two) from AwesomenessTV, and recently-axed sci-fi drama Impulse (seasons one and two). On the children’s front, YouTube will unlock in coming weeks: We Are Savvy, Hyperlinked, Fruit Ninja Frenzy Force, and Kings of Atlantis. That said, certain series will remain behind the paywall, Variety notes, including the first two seasons of Karate Kid spinoff Cobra Kai.

With 25 Million Views On Season 1, Kian And Jc Are Readying Another ‘Reality House’
By many accounts, the first season of Kian Lawley and Jc Caylen’s Reality House was a massive success, garnering substantive buzz on social media and drumming up a collective 25 million views across all episodes.

The 10-episode, Big Brother-inspired reality series saw a slew of top YouTubers -- including Elijah Daniel, Dominic DeAngelis, Kristen McAtee, Lauren ‘LaurDIY’ Riihimaki, Jenn McAllister, Trisha Paytas, and Chad Tepper -- competing in various elimination challenges, with different houseguests being voted out each episode. The winner, Vine-turned-YouTube star Crawford Collins, took home a cool $25,000 in cash.

And now, given that the first outing was such a success, Lawley and Caylen have announced on social media that development on season two is already underway, and will begin filming on Nov. 14 -- over the course of five days. Season two will take place in a bigger mansion and double the cash prize -- up to $50,000. Lawley and Caylen,...

The Season Four Trailer For Hit YouTube Premium Comedy ‘Foursome’ Is Here
YouTube Premium’s longest-running series is back.

The fourth-season trailer for racy comedy Foursome dropped this week, and while it’s still packed full of YouTube talent like leading lady Jenn McAllister (3.4 million subscribers) and Rickey Thompson, the hit show’s next installment is noticeably absent Logan Paul, who played McAllister’s overbearing older brother Alec for the first three seasons. Paul was cut from the series in January following his widely-criticized video showing a dead body in Japan's Aokigahara forest.

Foursome follows four friends through the trials and tribulations of being teenagers. In this latest season, set to premiere on Oct. 24, the Og foursome reunites for one last epic summer together before some of them graduate, leaving McAllister’s character to face her junior and senior years of high school alone.

The series, which has pulled in some impressive viewership numbers for YouTube, also stars Cameron Moulene and Sarah Gilman,...

Insights: Will Tech Kings Dominate Online Entertainment To Hollywood’s Detriment?
News that Time Warner has bought a 10% stake in Hulu for $583 million, but no seat on the board, created a bit of a tizzy in streaming-media circles these past several days. While it’s notable that Time Warner is making yet another significant investment in yet another corner of the online-media universe, that’s not even this sector’s most fascinating news of the past month.

Just consider these developments, all more telling about the future of entertainment to my mind than the Time Warner - Hulu deal, loaded as it is with Hulu’s complicated management structure, owner ambivalences, and eternally shifting business plan:

Alphabet/Google/YouTube is venturing into original programming in a big way, as first announced at VidCon, where it trumpeted a series with Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum, based on the Step Up dance movies. At last week’s Television Critics Association meetings, YouTube...

The event was curated by Beautycon, which organizes a yearly festival for beauty gurus and their fans. Beautycon brought several top creators in front of the former First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State for an hour-long question-and-answer session moderated by YouTube beauty star DulceCandy. In total, according to The Hollywood Reporter, 100 digital media personalities event. YouTube Red Announces 3 Renewals, 6 Upcoming Projects With Rhett And Link, Dan And Phil, More
YouTube has remained rather mum on the success of YouTube Red thus far. But during her keynote address at VidCon this evening, CEO Susan Wojcicki offered a glimpse into the success of the initiative. Wojcicki said that more than half of all watch time for Red is taking place on mobile devices -- suggesting the social buzz surrounding its original programming is loud. A Trip to Unicorn Island earned more Twitter impressions when it premiered, YouTube says, than Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, House of Cards, and True Detective.

Wojcicki also noted that Scare PewDiePie, a reality series featuring YouTube’s most-subscribed star, boasted audiences that rival the top shows on cable. To this end, Scare PewDiePie is one of three series being renewed for a second season. Thousands of digital creators, industry professionals, brands, and fans will pack their bags for sunny Florida next week in anticipation of Playlist Live Orlando -- a six-year-old convention that has evolved into an annual industry staple.

This year’s three-day event, of course, purports to be its biggest yet with roughly 12,000 fans, 450 influencers and 75 brands in attendance -- representing a 2,000% increase in attendance since the event’s inception in 2011, says founder Alex Tchekmeian. “This year we’ve really activated the whole entire outdoor space of the venue -- so that’s going to be one of the bigger features this year,” Tchekmeian tells Tubefilter.

The Trailer For ‘Foursome,’ YouTube Red’s Latest Original Series, Has Arrived
One month after premiering its inaguural fleet of original shows, YouTube Red is maintaining a speedy momentum.

The first new series from its second wave of original content offerings -- a half-hour comedy entitled Foursome starring Jenn McAllister and Logan Paul -- will premiere on March 30. While squarely aimed at teens, the six-episode series from AwesomenessTV has a decidedly racy vibe -- at least as evidenced by its sex-centric teaser trailer released today.

While Dance Camp, YouTube Red’s first original feature film from AwesomenessTV, looked to be a rather wholesome love story that blossoms at -- where else? -- a summer dance camp, in Foursome, McAllister is desperate to hook up. However, she’s blocked at every turn by her overprotective older brother, played by Paul. “Bros before hos, except I’ll never be a ho because of my bro,” McAllister deadpans in the trailer. “I’m gonna die a virgin.

Lauren Elizabeth, Jenn McAllister To Headline Feature Film ‘Bad Night’
A pair of popular YouTubers are set to make their feature film debut. Lauren Elizabeth (aka LoveLaurenElizabeth) and Jenn McAllister (aka JennXPenn) are set to star in Bad Night, a film produced by Grb Entertainment.

Bad Night, which was announced at Playlist Live, will be the first film from Grb, which is best known for producing reality TV shows like A&E's Intervention. The project will star McAllister and Elizabeth as a pair of high school students who get lost during a class field trip. That plot summary, with its school-based shenanigans, resembles Cameron Dallas vehicle Expelled, another film led by an online video star.

The similarities between Bad Night and Expelled run a lot deeper than their respective plots. Expelled brought partners from the AwesomenessTV multi-channel network to the big screen, and both Elizabeth and McAllister are represented by Big Frame, the talent management company owned by AwesomenessTV. Two of Big Frame's employees,...
