Robert Carlyle To Play Sherlock Holmes In ‘Watson’ Season 2
Image
Robert Carlyle is set to bring to life the legendary literary detective Sherlock Holmes in Season 2 of the CBS series Watson. Carlyle will appear in a recurring guest role, working opposite series lead Morris Chestnut, who plays Dr. John Watson.

The investigative medical drama is a modern version of one of history’s greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries. While Watson’s team of “doc-tectives” may have defeated Moriarty (Randall Park) last season, they remain determined in Season 2 in their mission to investigate and treat the world’s rarest diseases for their clinic’s patients.

With his eyes fixed on the future, Watson faces an unexpected twist when Sherlock Holmes, who was presumed dead, resurfaces, forcing him to confront a buried secret from his past — one that lies hidden within his own body.

Paul Mescal Finds His Next Tragic Romance in First Trailer for ‘The History of Sound’
Image
After making waves at Cannes, the new drama movie The History of Sound is getting ready to take over the world — and maybe kick off its awards season run. Led by Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) and Josh O'Connor (Challengers), the movie centers around two music lovers who bond over their passion for folk music and end up falling in love during the less-than-gay-friendly era of the early 20th century and against the backdrop of WWI. Mubi is handling the distribution, and the movie is set to premiere on September 17. You can check out the trailer in this article.

The trailer for The History of Sound makes it clear that music is not just a random element in the story. It opens with Mescal's character Lionel revealing that he has such a strong connection with music that he can "see" it ever since he was a kid. He then grows up...

Your New Favorite Sherlock Holmes Show Just Got Some Incredible News
Image
Good news, Sherlock Holmes fans! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's trusty assistant will be returning to the airwaves a bit sooner than expected. Although the Morris Chestnut-led Watson was originally planned to return sometime during midseason, Deadline reports that the medical drama's sophomore outing has been moved by CBS to the fall. This will now put the series on a typical broadcast schedule, though it's a mystery when it will premiere. The news coincided with a delay to the Tom Ellis-led FBI spin-off CIA, meaning it could potentially occupy the Monday 10 p.m. time slot, or move to another spot in a scheduling change once the network announces its fall premiere dates.

Watson's return to the fall schedule is quite the twist, considering CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach had personally commented about its absence. Back in May, the series was in an awkward spot with a crowded lineup ahead...

Watson EP Discusses Randall Park's Return as Moriarty in Season 2
Image
Watsoncreator and executive producer Craig Sweeny opens up about bringing back Randall Park as Moriarty in Season 2.

Speaking to TV Insider, Sweeny said "I definitely wouldn't rule it out" regarding a potential return of Park's Moriarty in the upcoming second season of Watson. "I mean, definitely the act will haunt Watson, and you’d be a fool to say, I would never allow Randall Park to act in our show. I mean, I would love to see him again," Sweeny added.

Sweeny went on to discuss Park's role in the series, how it was specifically built to tie back into the overarching story of Watson Season 1, and how being unable to save the villain from a lethal dose of poison in the season finale has impacted Morris Chestnut's titular doctor. "I believe that Watson really approached that from a perspective of doing the least harm and even though...

‘The Pitt,’ ‘Brilliant Minds’ Showrunners on The Revival of the Medical Drama: “People Need Hope Now”
Image
Why are medical dramas having a resurgence this Emmys season? The showrunners of some of the hottest series, which this year include Brilliant Minds, Doc, Doctor Odyssey, The Pitt, Pulse and Watson, have some theories (apart from the fact that they’re just “quite good,” says The Pitt’s R. Scott Gemmill).

“Medical shows introduce a problem and provide a solution, and in doing so offer hope,” Gemmill tells THR. “I think people need hope now more than they have in a while.” And Watson’s showrunner Craig Sweeny agrees: “Audiences are craving the hope and positivity that are baked into the genre.”

Inspired by the Oliver Sacks books The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and An Anthropologist on Mars, Brilliant Minds stars Zachary Quinto as attending neurologist Oliver Wolf at Bronx General Hospital. “Covid shifted the conversations we’re having about health care and health care workers,...

Watson Star's Pushing for a Lucy Liu Appearance in Season 2: 'I'm Trying to Track Her Down'
Image
Watson star Morris Chestnut recently shared his hopes for Elementary's Lucy Liu to make an appearance on his Sherlock Holmes show. While the shows are currently unrelated, their creative teams do have some overlap.

Per Deadline, Chestnut talked about wanting to 'track down' Liu to get her to appear on his show. Watson was created by Craig Sweeney, who also executive produced Elementary, where Liu starred as Dr. Joan Watson. "I'm trying to track her down and get her to come on our show because, yes, that would be great if we could get her," Chestnut said. He added that there are no talks with Liu, but he is "serious" about trying to have her appear in CBS's latest adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes stories. Chestnut is also an executive producer for the series.

Watson premiered on CBS in January, putting a medical drama twist on the usual Sherlock Holmes-style mysteries.

CBS Boss Defends Their Unusual Watson Season 2 Decision For Morris Chestnut's Medical Drama: "There’s No Other Real Logical Place For It"
Image
CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach defends a surprising scheduling decision related to Watson. Hailing from Elementary executive producer Craig Sweeny, with Morris Chestnut leading the last as the titular John Watson, the medical drama sees the traditional supporting character step into the lead role after the loss of Sherlock Holmes. The premise caught on with audiences, and Watson season 2 faced a fairly confident path to renewal. Viewers will have to wait a little longer to see how it all unfolds, however, since new episodes won't be back until next January.

In comments to Deadline, Reisenbach addressed Watson'sdelay and defended the decision. CBS Entertainment's president noted that there was no room on the network's schedule for the medical drama, though she added that there will be a push for new viewers to stream the series on Paramount+. Reisenbach's quote is below:

“We’ll definitely be pushing viewers to binge it on Paramount+ in the meantime.

Watson Season 1 Ending: Stephens & Sasha's Emotional Moment & Their Relationship Future Addressed By Star
Image
While Watson’s season 1 finale might have seen Stephens and Sasha share an emotional moment, star Peter Mark Kendall is not yet sure what path is best for the couple’s future. Watson's entire cast of characters is engaging, but the Sherlock Holmes re-imagining threw the entire team into disarray with its dramatic finale. Watson season 2 will soon pick up where the first outing left off, but it is not just Morris Chestnut's Dr. John H. Watson who viewers will be eager to see more of.

Mark Kendall’s interview with Screenrant saw the actor make no promises about the pair's future. After Watson’s season 1 finale, the relationship between Stephens and Sasha is a stranger place than ever before. Showrunner Craig Sweeny has already revealed that season 2 will take the finale's confession and expand on it, changing the dynamic between the duo. Per Kendall:

“I thought it was really cool.

Watson Season 1 Ending: How Ingrid & Stephens' Relationship Has Changed Explained By Star: "She's A Tough Person To Get Along With"
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Watson season 1 finale

Although Ingrid and Stephens might not have seen eye to eye in Watson season 1, series star Peter Mark Kendall is hopeful about the pair’s future heading into season 2. With the events of Watson's season 1 ending, the power dynamic between Ingrid and Stephens shifted in a major way. Eve Harlow’s neurologist clearly intimidated Stephens throughout much of Watson season 1, and the revelation that she was responsible for her father’s death didn’t make Peter Mark Kendall’s character any less scared of her.

While Watson’s cast of characters have mostly been able to work together through some truly intense and dramatic situations, the discovery that Moriarty blackmailed Ingrid into working for him was too much for Stephens. He told her Ingrid could no longer work with her in the series finale after Moriarty’s plot was foiled.

Watson Season 2 Filming Start Window Revealed By Star After Shocking Season 1 Ending
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Watson season 1 finale

While Watson season 2 might still be a few months away, the show’s star confirmed in a recent interview that filming will be underway relatively soon. It might seem like it is a little early to start thinking about Watson season 2. The Sherlock Holmes re-imagining stars Morris Chestnut as Sherlock’s famous sidekick, John H Watson, who returns to work as a doctor after the apparent death of his friend and colleague Sherlock Holmes before the series began. Although Watson might try to leave the world of mysteries behind, Sherlock’s enemies aren’t quite done with him yet.

Speaking to Screenrant, Stephens/Adam Croft’s actor Peter Mark Kendall revealed when they might start working on Watson season 2. Watson’s battle of wits against Randall Park’s Moriarty defined most of season 1’s story until Watson season 1’s shocking finale...

Adam & Stephens' Watson Season 1 Ending Fates & How It Will Impact Season 2 Explained By Star
Image
Although Watson’s season 1 finale left Stephens and Adam in a tricky position, actor Peter Mark Kendall is optimistic about the pair’s future. Watson's entire cast of characters is fun, but Peter Mark Kendall pulling double duty as twins Stephens and Adam may be the highlight of the Sherlock Holmes re-imagining. Unless Watson season 2 introduces even more complicated characters, these two brothers, who share everything from medical careers to love interests, are its true breakout stars.

Speaking to Screenrant, actor Peter Mark Kendall reflected on how dramatic the finale was for the twins. Morris Chestnut's Dr. John H. Watson may have saved Stephens and Adam from Moriarty’s machinations in Watson’s season 1 finale but this doesn’t mean everything is well between the twins. Adam is dating Stephens’ ex, the lawyer Lauren, while Stephens has complex feelings for Sasha. Meanwhile, Ingrid’s betrayal of Stephens led him...

Watson Star Reveals He Didn't Know His Own Characters' Fates Until The Very End
Image
Watsonstar Peter Mark Kendall has revealed he didn't know his characters' fates, or anyone else's, until each episode script arrived on set. Despite playing a central role in NBC's Watson, which has been renewed for season 2, Kendall shared that the cast was often in the dark about major plot twists and character outcomes until the very last minute. Kendall's comments underscore the intense pace of network TV production. With quick turnarounds and minimal prep time between episodes, actors must rely on instinct and trust in the writing team.

That constant state of discovery brings a raw, unscripted energy to the screen, something fans of Watson have clearly responded to. It's also something that Kendall himself responded to, as he relished the mystery of discovering what would happen to his characters along with the viewers. In a candid moment during an interview with Screen Rant, Kendall described the process of...

Watson Showrunner Reveals A Different Character Almost Died In The Season 1 Finale
Image
Watson showrunner Craig Sweeny reveals there were almost plans for a different character to die in the season 1 finale. Based on the Sherlock Holmes stories, the cast of Watson is led by Morris Chestnut's titular character, who treats patients in Pittsburgh with his unorthodox methods. In a shocking move, the Watson season 1 finale killed off legendary nemesis and principal antagonist James Moriarty (Randall Park). He was ostensibly killed by Watson, via a custom genetic illness, adding to the shock factor of the scene. However, another character could actually have died instead, and was considered in an earlier draft of the episode.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Sweeny revealed that there was a plan to have one of the twins, Adam or Stephens, not make it through their procedure. The finale sees both twins dying from an illness Moriarty created specifically for them and their genes, with the team only...

‘Watson’: Morris Chestnut Explains Why He ‘Loved’ Season 1 Finale Watson & Moriarty Ending
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Watson Season 1 finale “Your Life’s Work, Part 2.”] Dr. John Watson … killer?! The Watson Season 1 finale, which aired on Sunday, May 11, saw the titular doctor (Morris Chestnut) face off against the villain James Moriarty (Randall Park) in order to save one of his fellows. Moriarty used DNA against the team, targeting Adam (Peter Mark Kendall) but also infecting his twin, Stephens, and then thanks to what he had Ingrid (Eve Harlow) do — he blackmailed her with her father’s remains, after discovering she’d killed the abusive man as a teen — there was only one dose of a cure. But thanks to Ingrid then going to Watson, the doctor was able to make his own virus to use against Moriarty — and the cure, which he gave him after he helped them save Stephens, didn’t work as well as he’d hoped, he said, before sitting with the villain as...

‘Watson’ Boss Talks Moriarty’s Fate, Watson’s Shocking Decision & What’s Ahead in Season 2
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Watson Season 1 finale “Your Life’s Work, Part 2.”] Watson began the series seemingly killing off both the amateur sleuth Sherlock Holmes and the villain James Moriarty at Reichenbach Falls, with the titular doctor (Morris Chestnut) unable to save the former, his friend. The two-part finale finally brought Watson and Moriarty face-to-face — and ended deadly for one of them. Due to Moriarty’s interference, the doctors only had one dose of cure to save one of the twins, Adam and Stephens (Peter Mark Kendall), after the villain’s virus felled both. But Watson then manipulated Moriarty to force him to hand over what was needed to save the other (Stephens), after Ingrid (Eve Harlow) approached him about the villain going to her. (He blackmailed her after discovering she’d killed her abusive father as a teen.) Both twins survived, and Stephens and Sasha (Inga Schlingmann) even got together. But Watson’s...

Who Should Watson Save: Adams or Stephens? Heading Into Finale, We Make the Cast Choose
Image
Moriarty’s diabolical intervention in Watson‘s lab claimed two victims by the end of Episode 12 — the last installment of the CBS drama before its Season 1 finale this Sunday (9/8c). As the hour came to a close, twin brothers/researchers Stephens and Adams Croft fell into comas resulting from some virus-related tomfoolery orchestrated by Watson’s nemesis.

And then, adding insult to illness, Moriarty’s meddling also meant that there wasn’t enough matter with which to create enough experimental serum for both brothers (thanks, Ingrid!). So by episode’s end, Watson wrestled with the notion that his medicine would...

‘Watson’ EP Teases an “Intense Showdown” in Season 1 Finale
Image
After a debut season that will round out with 13 episodes, it all comes down to this. Sunday, May 11 marks the arrival of CBS’ freshest procedural, Watson, which features Morris Chestnut (Nurse Jackie) in the titular role. It’s been an exciting build-up as audiences have followed along with the reimagined story of Sherlock Holmes’ infamous peer who, in this version, is a doctor of medicine at the Holmes Clinic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Following last week’s cliffhanger, there’s a lot on the line for Watson and the rest of his team, as they not only move as quickly as possible to save twin brothers, Adam and Stephen Croft (Peter Mark Kendall), but to ensure that the virus the siblings have been infected with — courtesy of Randall Park’s Moriarty — doesn’t make it outside the hospital.

“We have to choose.” That unthinkable death sentence from the brilliant Dr. John Watson (Morris Chestnut) to his Holmes Clinic team capped the first of a two-part season finale that will reach a pulse-pounding conclusion on May 11. Watson’s dire words referred to twin docs Adam and Stephens Croft (both played by Peter Mark Kendall), suffering from a fast-progressing illness that threatened to kill them within days. They had been infected with a virus, created by Watson’s nemesis Moriarty (Randall Park), that targeted their DNA. But due to Dr. Ingrid Derian’s (Eve Harlow) sabotage, there was only enough raw material to create a single dose of a life-saving treatment. In the finale, the docs make the wrenching choice of which Croft to save. “Watson faces two challenges in the finale that are really the same challenge,” reveals Watson executive producer Craig Sweeny. “He must invent a cure for...

‘Watson’ Sneak Peek: Did Sherlock Holmes Have a Kid With Irene Adler? (Video)
Image
The late Sherlock Holmes (voiced by Matt Berry in hallucinations) was Dr. John Watson’s (Morris Chestnut) friend, an amateur sleuth … and a father?! That’s a possibility raised in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the Sunday, March 30, episode of Watson (the first to air since the series was renewed). Whoopie Van Raam guest stars as Irene Adler, whom Watson mentioned in Episode 6, talking to Stephens (Peter Mark Kendall) after he had to share about his cam girl when she collapsed during a video call. “I stayed with Sherlock Holmes for maybe about a year in total,” Watson shared. “He had one woman in his life, a con artist named Irene, she popped in and out. Besides her, he had a… standing appointment with a… companion who he introduced as Mrs. Hudson. She pretended to be the landlady whenever she came by, but the walls are very thin on Baker Street.

Watson Season 1, Episode 6 Review: Sherlock Holmes Haunts the CBS Show
Image
The following contains spoilers from Watson Season 1, Episode 6, "The Camgirl Inquiry," which debuted Sunday, March 16 on CBS.

Watson Season 1, Episode 6, "The Camgirl Inquiry" finally takes some time to focus on the literary elephant not in the room. The CBS show's pilot episode opened with the death of Sherlock Holmes, and for the show to work it couldn't dwell on his absence. Series creator Craig Sweeny resisted the urge to mine the source material and mentions of Sherlock Holmes, so Watson has been able to establish itself and Morris Chestnut's take on the titular character as a solo act.

Rather than presenting vivid physical reality, Watson literally takes a wider view, highlighting real neighborhoods as the team solves the mystery of the week. The full picture of their patients' humanity and place in the community is how Watson and team discover the cure for what ails each person. That's particularly true in "The Camgirl Inquiry,...

He’s looking for something real and manages to convince her to tell him something about her real life. It’s relatively mundane—she was raised on a rabbit...
