Why [Spoiler] Had to Die in Mission: Impossible 8: 'It Was a Sacrifice'
Image
Mission: Impossible franchise director Christopher McQuarrie has finally opened up about their decision to kill off one of the franchise’s legacy characters in the newest entry, The Final Reckoning. McQuarrie has been part of the blockbuster action franchise since 2015, beginning with Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which remains as one of its highest-rated installments.

During a recent interview with Empire, McQuarrie explained why the death of Ving Rhames’ long-time character Luther had to happen in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. He revealed that the beloved character’s death was crucial to the latest installment’s story since its theme was all about sacrifice. The filmmaker confirmed that Rhames was very supportive of the decision because it allowed his character to have an emotional and proper send-off.

“The story was about sacrifice. The sacrifice in [Dead Reckoning], the movie had no teeth without it, without some loss. It was a sacrifice Ving leaned fully into,...

Max Spain Originals Chief On HBO Max Name Change: “We Cannot Lose The Value Of HBO” – Conecta Fiction
Image
Max’s Director for Local Original Productions in Spain has vowed the move back to the HBO Max moniker “doesn’t change the creative focus.” Instead, he predicted it would amplify the quality on the streamer.

“Many of you are asking what has happened,” Jose Maria Caro said at Conecta Fiction in Spain today about the decision, which was announced in the U.S. last month. “What does it change mean? Well, we cannot lose the value of HBO because it means many things to many people. It contributes a lot of value.”

Warner Bros Discovery announced in May it was moving away from Max and back to the HBO Max moniker that the global streamer had launched with in 2020. The rebrand is taking place this summer, and Caro said the move was a significant one.

“What’s in a name? It really matters to our editorial line,” he said,...

Tom Cruise at an event for Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Searching Every Theater to Find Tom Cruise in San Antonio
Tom Cruise at an event for Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Six years have passed since Tom Cruise announced that the seventh and eighth films in the Mission: Impossible franchise would be shot back-to-back, and he has been in production on these films for a long time. We saw Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning back in 2024, and now the follow-up, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, has finally made its way out into the world, reaching theatres on May 23rd. (You can read our review at This Link.) To celebrate the film’s release, producer/star Cruise and director/co-writer/producer Christopher McQuarrie went on a world tour that wrapped up in the state of Texas, where they received a welcome from Dallas Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith and the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, experienced authentic Texas barbecue, and surprised moviegoers at military, tastemaker, and opening weekend paid screenings. When JoBlo’s own Taylor James Johnson heard that Tom Cruise was going to...

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Ending Explained By Director - And Why Post-Credits Scene Was Cut
Image
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning concludes with the good guys saving the day, and Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt getting his hands on the AI Entity that very brought the world to its knees.

The Imf team meets in Trafalgar Square, Grace gives Ethan the drive, and he walks off into the crowd, perhaps ready for his next mission or to take a well-earned break. Either way, the door is left open for another adventure, and if that doesn't happen, then it's a solid, open-ended way to conclude the character's story (he's out there somewhere...we just don't know where).

In an interview with USA Today (via ActioNewz.com), Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie explained, "What I love about the way it ends is the way it ends. We've always wanted to end a 'Mission' that way, but you can't make these movies do things they don't want to do.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Spoilers: Does Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt Die In The Movie?
Image
This article was originally published on ActioNewz.com.

In Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Ethan Hunt and his allies set out to take on the A.I. Entity, a program that's hellbent on wiping out humanity. It's the Imf agent's biggest, most dangerous mission yet, and also his last if the marketing campaign is to be believed.

After Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One underperformed, Paramount Pictures decided that the best way to boost interest in the sequel would be to promote it as Hunt's farewell. The movie is eyeing the biggest domestic debut in the franchise's history, so it seems the decision paid off.

Is this really the end for Ethan, though? Cruise was reportedly unhappy with Paramount for suggesting Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning concludes his time as the character, and the actor has since signed a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to produce...

Does Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Have A Post-Credits Scene? Here's Your Spoiler-Free Answer
Image
This article was originally published on ActioNewz.com.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning arrives in theaters later this week, but is it worth sticking around through the credits? Post-credits scenes are the norm in the MCU, and many franchises now take their cues from Marvel Studios.

Even at 62, Tom Cruise is showing no signs of slowing down, and it's no secret that he wishes to keep the door open to playing Ethan Hunt again (he reportedly clashed with Paramount Pictures over the studio's decision to promote this movie as his last).

Despite that, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning doesn't have any post-credits scenes. Of course, you can always watch them to see the names of everyone who worked hard to make the movie a reality.

This isn't overly surprising, as no Mission: Impossible movie has included a stinger. However, Dead Reckoning Part One did include The Entity’s...

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed As First Reviews Race Online
Image
The reviews are in for Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (via ActioNewz.com), but is this a worthy conclusion to Tom Cruise's nearly three-decade run as Imf agent Ethan Hunt?

It seems the answer to that question is yes and no. The action sounds phenomenal, but the story appears to be a little too jam-packed—you might want to rewatch the previous instalments before heading to theaters for this one—with a villain who fails to reach the high bar set by his predecessors.

Cruise, however, is receiving plenty of praise, and for longtime Mission fans, it seems The Final Reckoning is a win.

The Hollywood Reporter calls the movie "dull" and adds, "If it’s going to be the last we see of one of the most consistently entertaining franchises to come out of Hollywood in the past few decades...it’s a disappointing farewell with a...

When No One Sees Us Season 1 Review: Slow‑Burn Mystery with Muscle
Image
From its opening shot of a saffron‑tinged altar to the staccato percussion of Palm Sunday drums, When No One Sees Us announces itself as a six‑part Spanish–American crime drama on Max. It marries the blunt mechanics of a police procedural with a meditative spiritual mystery and a countryside noir mood (cue the buzzing cicadas). The series centers on Lt Magaly Castillo, a cyber‑investigator transplanted from Chicago’s digital warrens, and Sgt Lucía Gutiérrez, a Civil Guard veteran whose public duty collides with private loyalties.

The catalyst arrives in brutal fashion: a respected professor performs seppuku in the dead of Holy Week, his torso a grotesque canvas of ritual devotion. Soon after, a new street drug provokes near‑hallucinogenic zeal among Nazarenes in procession, while the vanishing of U.S. Airman Miles Johnson and a local teen weaves modern geopolitics into a small‑town enigma.

Tom Cruise at an event for Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning Tracking For Franchise-Best Opening; Plus Popcorn Bucket & New Photos
Image
With a few weeks to go, the first tracking data for Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is out and it seems as though his ace Imf agent Ethan Hunt is gearing up to go out with a bang.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, The Final Reckoning is currently looking at an opening in the $72 million to $88 million range, with box office pundits targeting a $80 million domestic launch over the course of the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend, which would be a franchise-best, topping the $61.2 million three-day launch for Mission: Impossible - Fallout in 2018.

Meanwhile, Disney's Lilo & Stitch is expected to open around $120 million over the four-day holiday, with projections expecting something in the $110 million to $130 million range, so based on these early estimates, it seems like we're in for one of the biggest movie weekends since 2023's Barbenheimer.

If the tracking holds, and if buzz continues...

Cannes’ Fantastic Pavilion Unleashes Sinister Slate With Ghost Ships, Cursed Coffee Tables and a Mexican Horror Surge
Image
As the Marché du Film approaches, the Fantastic Pavilion returns to Cannes for its third and most ambitious edition yet, unfurling a freshly sharpened slate of horror, fantasy and genre titles from across the globe.

With six films featured in this year’s Fantastic Galas, the Pavilion not only reasserts itself as a vital hub for international genre cinema – one of the hottest commodities at any major market in recent years – but also promotes a diverse range of talent and hosts regional spotlights and cross-border collaborations that continue to redefine how horror travels.

Among the most talked-about entries is “Turkish Coffee Table” (“Cam Sepha”), a Turkish psychological thriller directed by Can Evrenol. The film is a remake of Caye Casas’ controversial breakout Spanish original “La Mesita del Comedor” (“The Coffee Table”) and it serves as a full-circle moment for the Pavilion; the project’s remake rights were acquired during last year’s IP Remake Showcase.

‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ Will Be Longest in the Franchise
Image
The final “Mission: Impossible” will be the longest film in the whole franchise.

TheWrap confirmed with a source close to production that “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” will have the longest runtime in the entire action franchise. The Tom Cruise-starring film is being touted as the final entry in the series that began back in 1996.

“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” will reportedly clock in at 2 hours and 49 minutes. That beats out the last film – “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” – which ran for 2 hours and 42 minutes. If the movie is indeed the finale to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, it seems they are leaving as much in the last cut as possible.

Christopher McQuarrie returns to direct after steering “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.” The eighth film in the franchise was initially titled “Dead Reckoning Part Two...

Mission: Impossible 8 Sets Record-Breaking Runtime for the Franchise (& Almost Tom Cruise's Filmography)
Image
Mission: Impossible fans will want to use the bathroom before sitting down for The Final Reckoning. The runtime for the eighth Mission: Impossible movie has reportedly been revealed, and it's a record-breaker.

After trusted runtime scooper Cryptic HD Quality reported on X that Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning would clock in at a whopping 2 hours and 51 minutes (171 min), Paramount revealed to ComicBook.com that the official runtime would actually be two minutes less. Even so, The Final Reckoning's 169-minute runtime is still a massive leap from the first Mission: Impossible film, which came in at 110 minutes. The runtimes for the other six entries in the long-running action spy franchise are 124 min (M:I:2), 126 min (M:I:iii), 133 min (Ghost Protocol), 131 min (Rogue Nation), 147 min (Fallout), and 163 min (Dead Reckoning). With the exception of 2015's Rogue Nation, the Mission: Impossible movies have progressively gotten longer with each new installment.

Surprisingly, Mission: Impossible –...

The epic runtime for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has been revealed
Image
The latest trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning gives the impression that this is likely Tom Cruise’s last go around as Ethan Hunt with the whole “everything you’ve done has led you to this” talk. The title was even changed from Dead Reckoning Part 2 to The Final Reckoning, which gives the movie the vibe of a conclusion. While one may think that Tom Cruise may not be able to do these movies forever, he’s still been effectively fighting off father time and finding ways to keep the franchise exciting.

However, if this does happen to be the curtain call for Cruise’s Imf agent, it does stand to reason that he will go out with a bang. World of Reel recently revealed the runtime for The Final Reckoning, which will be nearly three hours at two hours and forty-nine minutes (with credits).

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Stars Tom Cruise & Hayley Atwell Tease Brutal -40° Shoot In Svalbard
Image
Paramount Pictures has released another amazing new behind-the-scenes featurette from Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, this time shifting the spotlight away from the stunts and onto one of the franchise's most breathtaking shooting locations: Svalbard, Norway!

If you're wondering what brings our heroes to the Arctic, well, it's probably safe to say it'll have something to do with the missing Sevastopol, which sank at the beginning of the previous film.

Dead Reckoning spoilers ahead, but, as we all know now, the completed key that Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) managed to swipe at the end of that film opens a chamber in the Sevastopol that contains the Entity's source code, allowing it to be destroyed or controlled.

The sub's location has remained a mystery until now, but, it looks like, in the two months between adventures, Hunt and company will have cracked its hidding spot in the Arctic Ocean.

Tom Cruise and the team behind Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning head to Svalbard for a breathtaking featurette
Image
Bundle up, friends, because we’re heading to Svalbard, Norway, for a look at Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which will chill you to your core. Cruise and his team bring a new Final Reckoning featurette to the frontlines today, highlighting some of the upcoming sequel’s astonishing filming conditions. If you thought the cast of Severence looked chilly during the outdoor retreat episode, “Woe’s Hollow,” you haven’t seen anything yet.

“You can’t fake being in minus forty degrees. If you take your gloves off for a few seconds, your fingers start to freeze,” Simon Pegg warns as footage of the cast and crew battle the cold in the new Final Reckoning featurette. “Being in an environment like that adds to the suspense and the drama,” Hayley Atwell adds about filming in the sub-zero temperature.

Tom Cruise Hangs At 8000 Feet With 140 Mph Winds In New Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Sneak Peek
Image
Paramount Pictures has shared a jaw-dropping new look at Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, offering a quick sneak peek at Tom Cruise's most dangerous stunt yet, as he hangs off the wing of a biplane at 8,000 feet, with winds of over 140 mph blasting!

This stunt, which will undoubtedly be this final installment's signature sequence. has been in the works for several years now, with Cruise ("Ethan Hunt") and director Christopher McQuarrie having meticulously shot it over the last two years. The duo actually first teased the plane sequence at CinemaCon 2023 ahead of the launch of that summer's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning.

The previous installment received widespread critical acclaim and the follow-up is shaping up to bigger and better in every way, as Ethan Hunt and his elite team of Imf operatives race against the clock to stop The Entity once and for all.

Watch Tom Cruise Dangle Off a Plane in New 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning' Sneak Peek
Image
Paramount Pictures has unveiled a jaw-dropping behind-the-scenes video from the upcoming Mission: Impossibleinstallment, and in true Tom Cruise fashion, it features yet another mind-melting stunt — one that finds the legendary action star literally clinging to the side of a flying airplane. Yep, he actually did that. Of course he did. The new footage of The Final Reckoning shows Cruise gripping the wing of an aircraft flying 8,000 feet above the ground — no green screen, no tricks, just Cruise doing Cruise things. The actor is strapped in with a single safety cable, but otherwise untethered as the plane soars through the sky with him on it.

In a voiceover, director Christopher McQuarrie shares just how disorienting the experience was, explaining that the altitude and speed made it difficult to even look around without getting dizzy. "You can't imagine how physically punishing it was for Tom to be on the wing. The wind distorts your vision.

Mission: Impossible 8 Could Break a Major Franchise Record During Its Opening Weekend
Image
Moviegoers are ready to flock to the theaters to see Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The upcoming action sequel, which could be Tom Cruise's final for the franchise, has just made a splash on the long-range box office tracking website Quorum.

According to Quorum (via Deadline), The Final Reckoning is set to gross "well north of 2018's Mission: Impossible – Fallout's $61 million," which would be a record three-day opening for the long-running action franchise. If this tracking holds, it would mark a major comeback for the Mission: Impossible franchise after its last installment, 2023's Dead Reckoning, underperformed at the box office, largely due to opening in theaters just before the global sensation Barbenheimer.

Dead Reckoning opened with $54.7 million domestically, a noticeable drop from the $61 million that Fallout made back in 2018. The 2023 movie, the first of a two-part story, currently has the fourth-best opening for the franchise, with...

Also confirmed is Ari Aster’s Eddington with Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone.

Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning will launch at the Cannes Film Festival
Image
The next mission for Tom Cruise, should he choose to accept it, is to launch his latest (and maybe final?) entry in his major action series — Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning — at the Cannes Film Festival. Chris Bumbray reported on Cruise’s recent big appearance at the CinemaCon panel where he revealed the new trailer, but first paid tribute to Val Kilmer, “Tom Cruise showed up in person and the exhibitors went nuts. He led off by paying tribute to Val Kilmer who he called a dear friend. Said he was grateful and honored he came back for Top Gun: Maverick. Has us take a moment of silence for him. Ended it with ‘Thank you, Val. I wish you well on your next journey.‘”

Deadline now reports that Cruise is set to launch the latest installment to his iconic action series at the Canne Film Festival this year. Final...
